The atmosphere at Carrington is incredibly positive heading into Manchester United's clash against Everton on Sunday.
The Red Devils enjoyed a solid pre-season under Michael Carrick and, after suffering a surprise defeat at the hands of Hull City, they bounced back in style at Old Trafford, scoring five past Ipswich Town.
United's midfield demonstrated they could be a real menace for opponents this season. Youri Tielemans has quickly settled into life at the club and there is genuine excitement about Carlos Baleba.
United insiders have reportedly highlighted Baleba's upbeat personality and light-hearted presence around the squad.

Charles Barkley blasts DiJonai Carrington over Sophie Cunningham foul and controversial post originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Charles Barkley believes DiJonai Carrington made a bad situation significantly worse after her controversial collision with Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham. Carrington was ejected from the Chicago Sky's Aug. 8 game against Indiana after striking Cunningham in the head while contesting a shot late in the first quarter. Cunningham was airborne when the contact occurred and fell hard to the court.
Officials initially called a common foul before upgrading it to a Flagrant 2 following a replay review. The ruling resulted in Carrington's immediate ejection. Carrington then posted "WHITE PRIVILEGE" on Threads and tagged the Fever, adding another layer to an incident already generating plenty of debate.
Barkley addressed both the foul and the social media post during an appearance on Michael Smerconish's radio show. The Basketball Hall of Famer did not leave much room for interpretation.
"It was a dirty play. Period," Barkley said.

Hull City have established their interest in signing Toby Collyer, despite the Manchester United youngster being on the verge of joining West Bromwich Albion.
That's according to Alex Crook, who adds that Hull are keen on bringing the midfielder back to the MKM Stadium following his brief loan spell last season.
Collyer spent the first half of 2025/2026 with the Baggies, making 12 appearances (three as a starter) before sustaining a significant calf injury in the winter that ended his stint prematurely.
He went back to his parent club to recover at Carrington, and, by January, United had opted to officially recall him from his loan.

DiJonai Carrington lasted just four minutes in the Chicago Sky's 87-81 loss to the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday. The veteran guard, who has been dealing with a left foot injury, had been listed as questionable before receiving clearance to play.
Carrington's brief appearance quickly caused a buzz on social media.
After a difficult stretch, Sky coach Tyler Marsh kept her on the bench to start the second quarter, with the team later announcing that she would not return because of the injury.
Marsh had already acknowledged before the game that the Sky were monitoring Carrington's foot. She was downgraded to questionable before eventually being cleared a few hours before tip-off.
Carrington entered with 4:05 left in the first quarter for Natasha Cloud, but things did not go her way. She missed a 13-footer, grabbed a rebound, committed back-to-back turnovers, and picked up a foul.

The WNBA returns with a three-game slate Tuesday after a busy Monday that saw the Golden State Valkyries hand the Minnesota Lynx an 80-66 loss and the Atlanta Dream beat the Los Angeles Sparks 78-71. Angel Reese made history in Atlanta's win, setting the league's single-game rebounding record with 26 boards while also breaking the single-season mark.
Tuesday's action features the Chicago Sky, Connecticut Sun, Portland Fire, Dallas Wings, Washington Mystics and Phoenix Mercury.
The Sky travel to Connecticut for the first game of Tuesday's schedule. Both teams are already eliminated from playoff contention, with Chicago joining Connecticut after Sunday's loss to the Indiana Fever. Portland heads to Dallas, with the Wings seeking to advance to the playoffs for the first time since 2023 with a win. The final game takes place in Phoenix, where the Mystics continue their push for higher seeding.

Last time the Indiana Fever met the Chicago Sky on the court, Chicago guard DiJonai Carrington was ejected from the game after a hard foul on Fever guard Sophie Cunningham. While she had the rematch against the Fever circled on her calendar, she ultimately fell flat in that game, and Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy was there to enjoy it.
After the Sky fell in a blowout to the Fever on Sunday night in a game where Carrington had minimal impact, Portnoy took to social media to mock the Chicago guard for "making a fool out of herself."
After the Aug. 8 game in which Carrington was ejected, the Sky guard circled the rematch with the Fever on her calendar.
"8/23," she wrote in a post on X, adding a smiley face emoji.
Aug. 23, of course, was the date of Sunday night's game between the Fever and Sky in Chicago.

Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington's aggressive on-court defense is well-known, and her interaction with Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark turned plenty of heads.
Carrington was looking forward to the August 23 matchup between the Fever and Sky after being ejected in the first quarter of their last clash for a foul on Sophie Cunningham.
With Cunningham playing just 10 minutes, Carrington and her couldn't share many moments on the court. But Carrington and Clark were involved in a memorable one-on-one sequence.
Carrington was guarding Clark in the second quarter when she was called for a personal foul on the perimeter on Caitlin.
DiJonai protested the call by gesturing that Clark was flopping and having a conversation with the referee.

Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom wore a shirt featuring the biological definition of a woman ("adult human female") courtside during the Indiana Fever vs Chicago Sky WNBA game on Sunday night.
The bold stunt got Kanter kicked out of the Wintrust Arena after he engaged in a heated argument with Sky guard Natasha Cloud.
According to Indy Star, "Cloud started yelling at Kanter Freedom, who was sitting on the baseline, and Cloud needed to be held back by teammate DiJonai Carrington and Fever security."
The report added: "Kanter Freedom was then escorted off the baseline to loud boos from the crowd, talked briefly with security behind the basket, then slowly walked off the court while puffing out the "Woman" T-shirt."
Kanter's stunt comes after he declared for the WNBA Draft by identifying as a woman, amid the ongoing debate over transgender athletes' participation in the league. Shortly after Kanter, another former NBA player, Royce White, declared for the 2027 Draft.

The Miami Dolphins could be looking to make a move to bolster their defensive secondary. According to Easton Butler, the Dolphins have been in contact with the Green Bay Packers about the availability of cornerback Carrington Valentine. Given Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley moved to Miami this offseason after having been the Packers' defenisve coordinator, there is a familiarity with Valentine built into the Dolphins' decision makers.
Valentine was a seventh-round pick by the Packers in 2023. Since being selected, he has appeared in 49 games, including 30 starts, and recorded 107 tackles, 18 passes defensed, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.
According to Butler, the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers have also reached out to Green Bay about Valentine's availability. The Packers have Valentine listed as a starter on their unofficial depth chart, and they could be looking to keep him in that role heading into the season – making a trade unlikely unless some team is willing to overpay in the deal. Green Bay already has question marks at depth for their cornerbacks and is dealing with injuries, including a hamstring issue for Valentine, and it would again seem to make a trade unlikely.
Would you make a trade for Valentine? What would you offer the Packers to add the former seventh-round pick? Head to the comments to let us know.

The Cincinnati Bengals don't typically do much wheeling and dealing, but we have seen them be a bit more aggressive in that regard in the Zac Taylor era.
We could see them pull something similar off as they reportedly have asked about Green Bay Packers corner Carrington Valentine, according to Easton Butler.
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins have also reportedly called about Valentine's availability.
The 6-foot, 189-pound Valentine would instantly improve the depth at the boundary corner position. DJ Turner and Dax Hill are locked in as starters, but Hill himself is already dealing with a hamstring issue. The only names behind them are DJ Ivey and rookie Tacario Davis, neither of whom is very experienced in getting NFL snaps on defense.
As for what the Bengals could offer, it could simply resemble a trade that helped fuel their last Super Bowl run. They traded center Billy Price for the New York Giants defensive tackle B.J. Hill. You simply need to look where the Bengals are deepest, and it is wide receiver and defensive tackle.

The New York Liberty suffered an injury to a key player Tuesday night in the midst of a heated playoff race.
All-Star center Jonquel Jones left the court with a left ankle injury in the first quarter against the Chicago Sky and did not return to the game. The Liberty initially ruled her as questionable after she went to the locker room, but they ruled her out for the game shortly after halftime.
Jones sustained the injury when she tripped over Dijonai Carrington while backing into the post. Carrington kneed Jones in her lower-left leg and was called for a foul on the play. Jones immediately grabbed her leg in pain after falling to the floor.
The game was tied at 16-16 at the time of Jones' injury.
The injury left the Liberty without their top post player for the remainder of the game. They're certainly hoping that it doesn't sideline her for longer with New York in the midst of a tight battle for playoff positioning.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts addressed closer Edwin Diaz going on the injured list following a run of bad performances.
Through Edwin Diaz's struggles, Roberts has stood by his closer and kept giving him chances, including a fiery defense.
However, after allowing four hits and three runs on Monday against the Rockies, things reached a tipping point for the Dodgers, and they have placed Diaz on the injured list.
The official diagnosis is neck inflammation, though according to Roberts, Diaz will get a full scan when he gets to Los Angeles about how serious the problem is.

Green Bay Packers cornerback Kesiean Nixon is battling to hold onto his starting job.
This was supposed to be a quiet, uneventful summer in Green Bay — where most starting jobs seemed settled a month ago.
Or so we thought.
Instead, several positional battles have unfolded. Here's a look at those, and a prediction of how they'll end.
Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine were the starters in 2025. Both could be coming off the bench, or in different uniforms in 2026.

Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White was targeted with calls for her firing for how she handled the recent Sophie Cunningham/DiJonai Carrington situation, which led to members of the media and several Fever stars coming to her defense.
Over the weekend, Phoenix Mercury head coach Nate Tibbetts joined the fray, sticking up for White after being asked about the WNBA having to deal with recent discourse unrelated to the actual play on the court.
"It really **** me off," Tibbetts told reporters Saturday. "It's disappointing. This is a great league. We've got great players. There's great stories, great rookies, great teams.
"We just spend so much time talking about the wrong stuff. I don't know why that happens in our league. It's disappointing. I don't know who can help change the narrative. Is it the coaches? Is it the players? Is it the media? There's outside sources that are trying to create division, and at times it's not a lot of fun. It's not a lot of fun for our players. It's not a lot of fun for our coaches, our organizations, because we are doing great things."
From there, Tibbetts got into White specifically, as he lamented what "certain coaches in our league have to deal with that on a night-to-night level

Phoenix Mercury coach Nate Tibbetts may not understand exactly what the Indiana Fever's Stephanie White has dealt with the past week or so, but he can empathize.
In a recent pregame interview, Tibbetts lamented the WNBA's frequent brushes with controversy, so many of them involving the Fever.
White has been criticized by the state's lieutenant governor after a postgame comment regarding the Chicago Sky's DiJonai Carrington. White gave an impassioned defense of her players before she was booed while being introduced the next game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Fever players also defended White, who received an ovation before Friday night's game against the New York Liberty.
"There are some things that our coaches have to deal with on a night-to-night level, and I feel sorry for those coaches," Tibbetts said Saturday.
"Some of things that Steph goes through, that is wrong. There is no other coach in professional sports that ... it's not fair. She was hired as a coach, and they've got a great team and they are dealing with stuff that doesn't really matter. That still ****** me off."

Stephanie White said it. The Indiana Fever proved it. Good thing they did.
Before the Fever's 106-92 win over the New York Liberty on Tuesday night, White had this to say to reporters: "The hate, the fear-mongering, the divisiveness, the stuff trying to hijack our league will not win. We are united. We are connected. We will not be divided."
To this point in the season, none of that has appeared to be true about the WNBA.
It wasn't until the Fever throttled the Liberty that White's pregame statement took on greater meaning. Because Indiana's performance backed up the coach's words in what could prove to be a crucial inflection point in the season. Without that win, White's words wouldn't have landed nearly as well. Because as impassioned as she was, her statement was more optimism than reality.
The online community she was addressing has been winning. It's the reason White was compelled to give a statement in the first place. Fever fans booed her before the game, all because of a narrative White doesn't support her players after what she said about Dijonai Carrington's Flagrant 2 foul on Sophie Cunningham.

Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White went scorched earth on her critics during a post-game presser on Tuesday night, saying she will always stand by her players and "everybody else can go to ***** !"
White spoke out in the face of heavy criticism after a hard foul on Fever star Sophie Cunningham over the weekend, when she was grabbed around the neck and thrown to the court by Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington.
Carrington was slapped with a flagrant foul and tossed from the game.
After Cunningham chided Carrington for what she called an "intentional" hit, White astonishingly appeared to take Carrington's side, saying, "I don't think that DiJonai intentionally came out to get her across the neck like she did. But it did happen, and I thought it was the right call."
The apparent failure to stick up for her own player led to intense backlash, as she was hit with boos from hometown fans ahead of Tuesday night's game against the New York Liberty.

Did the Indiana Fever fire head coach Stephanie White on Aug. 10, 2026? No, that's not true: The claim is not supported by any official announcement from the team and was not found on the Fever website. In addition, White appeared at the team's media availability on Aug. 10, 2026, alongside two of her players.
The claim appeared in a post and image (archived here) by the FeverUpdate account on X on Aug. 10, 2026. It read:
The Indiana Fever have fired head coach Stephanie White following her controversial post-game remarks regarding Dijonai Carrington's foul and actions against Sophie Cunningham.
The decision comes amid mounting backlash, with the team's Board of Directors reportedly calling an emergency meeting to address the situation.
A new head coach is expected to be revealed tomorrow ahead of the Fever's game against the New York Liberty.

Indiana Fever Team President Kelly Krauskopf has issued a statement backing head coach Stephanie White after recent backlash.
Coach White tried to give DiJonai Carrington the benefit of the doubt after her Flagrant 2 foul on Sophie Cunningham against the Chicago Sky, but that angered fans who felt she didn't stand up for Sophie.
Amid a social media firestorm and rising criticism of White from fans, the Fever front office have firmly thrown their support behind their head coach.
After Coach White made a lengthy pregame statement explaining the Carrington-Cunningham situation and denouncing the rising hate within the league because of outside forces, Fever Team President Kelly Krauskopf shared a supportive statement of her own.
"Coach White has done a tremendous job leading the Fever and for the second-consecutive season, has us in a great position for a playoff push. She has kept our team focused and united, all while under the brightest spotlight our team and our league have ever experienced. She has the full support of leadership."

Indiana Fever guard/forward Sophie Cunningham addressed the media after ***** umptions that recent controversies have taken their toll on the locker room.
The Fever have been the center of the WNBA media attention for a few years, but this season has been a lot more eventful. From the Caitlin Clark and Alyssa Thomas incident to Sophie Cunningham's comments about excluding trans women from women's sports.
With DiJonai Carrington's foul on Cunningham from the weekend, the latest major development for the franchise, Cunningham sent a message to the media after the Fever's 106-92 win over the NY Liberty.
After the Fever's win over the Liberty, Cunningham spoke to the media and made it clear that the team is sticking together despite the media noise and the distractions that may sidetrack their focus.
"There's been a lot of outside noise, but our locker room is good. That's what it means to be an Indiana Fever, on the staff, as a player, that when you come in here, there's gonna be things that distract you. But our locker room is tight, and we have each other's back."

Indiana Fever All-Star guard Caitlin Clark publicly backed Stephanie White after Indiana's second-year head coach was booed on the team's home court at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
The boo birds rained down on White ahead of a 106-92 win over the New York Liberty, which marked the Fever's first game since Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington's hard foul on Sophie Cunningham and subsequent "White Privilege" post Aug. 8 reignited conversations about player safety and race. Some Fever fans felt White didn't adequately defend Cunningham, with Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith going as far as calling for White to be fired.
"I told (Stephanie White) that before the game, there was no way we were losing this game for her. And it's tough. That's my head coach. I hated that our fans booed her before the game. That made me a little sick, to be honest," Clark said in her postgame remarks. "It's professional sports, people are going to boo, but at the end of the day... we're going to ride for her and we're always going to have her back and that's never going to tear our locker room apart."
Clark added, "I just love her and I feel for her because I know it can be a lot at times and she does a great job a lot of times blocking it out, but there's other moments where it can get under your skin and that's just being human and that's just life."

Indiana Fever All-Star guard Caitlin Clark and head coach Stephanie White must be experiencing déjà vu.
On May 30, Clark and White were caught on camera in the midst of an intense sideline spat. Two days later, Clark put to bed any delusions of a rocky relationship.
"It's just another example of what everybody, all of you, want to blow up and make something that is just lost and not in reality," Clark said, in part, at the time, per ESPN's Kareem Copeland. "When I got hurt at the Connecticut game last year, I bawled in Steph's arms. That's somebody I will ride for for the rest of my life. People that just sit on their phones all day, they don't see those moments."
Fast forward a little over two months. Last Saturday, White came under fire again for her completely rational ******* sment of Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington's Flagrant 2 foul on Fever guard Sophie Cunningham. The media mania spun so far out of control that Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith publicly called for White's job.
Come Tuesday night, the Fever hosted the New York Liberty. White used her pregame press conference to deliver a passionate speech directed at "an online community that's trying to create narratives that simply don't exist."

The Indiana Fever dismantled the New York Liberty on Tuesday night, winning with a final score of 106-92. It was another masterclass performance from Indiana's guards, with Caitlin Clark scoring 22 points and dishing 10 ***** ists and Kelsey Mitchell adding 28 points of her own.
However, heading into the game, Fever head coach Stephanie White faced calls for her job from several members of sports media for failing to "defend" Sophie Cunningham after a hard foul by Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington on Saturday.
White addressed her detractors directly before Tuesday's game.
"You know, this isn't necessarily for those people that are in this room," she said in her pregame presser. "This is more for an online community that's trying to create narratives that simply don't exist, trying to create a fabrication or distortion of who I am, of what I'm about.
"Our players' success, our players' health and wellness, our players' safety is always a top priority for me. One of the things I pride myself on is my relationships with players. For those who have anything to say about the play in the last game, I didn't see the play in real time. I take personally any suggestions that I don't 100% always have my players' back. I ride with them 10 toes down all the time. All the time. They know that."

Last Saturday, Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington elbowed Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham in the face while attempting a chase-down block. Carrington was ******* sed a Flagrant 2 and ejected from the game.
After the Fever beat the Sky, Fever head coach Stephanie White commented on the controversial play.
"I mean, look, it was a hard foul," White said at her postgame press conference. "I don't think that DiJonai intentionally came out to get her across the neck like she did, but it did happen, and I thought it was the right call. But one of the things about [Carrington] is that she's gonna play her ******* off, man. She's gonna compete. ******* ody's gonna go walking in for a layup. I don't oppose the hard foul, but I also don't think she intentionally went for the neck."
Before returning home to Indiana to become the Fever's head coach in November 2024, White was head coach of the Connecticut Sun for the 2023 and '24 WNBA seasons, winning the 2023 WNBA Coach of the Year award. She coached Carrington on the Sun for those two years. So, if anyone not named DiJonai Carrington has the authority to speak on her playing style, it's White.
But, as with all matters of the WNBA, people who otherwise don't care about women's basketball latched onto this and blew it out of proportion. Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith publicly called for White's job. Beckwith wasn't alone in criticizing White, as the likes of Linda Cohn and Jason Whitlock joined the chorus.

The Indiana Fever have been at the center of what has seemed like one controversy after another throughout the 2026 season. Most recently, teh discourse surrounding the team has been dominated by a hard foul that Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington had on Sophie Cunningham.
In the aftermath of the foul, which led to all sorts of outrageous responses, White said that she didn't feel Carrington had any malicious intent behind what was an admittedly reckless play.
"Look, it was a hard foul," White said. "It did happen, and I thought it was the right call. One of the things about [Carrington] is that she's going to play her ***** off, man. She's going to compete. ***** ody's going to go walking in for a layup. I don't oppose the hard foul, but I also don't think that she intentionally went for the neck."
In the aftermath, many, such as Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, called for White to lose her job for not properly sticking up for Cunningham in their eyes.
"This isn't politics; your player got ***** aulted. Defend your player in the press conference. Be like, 'Yeah, that was a dirty play; she should've hit the showers.' She acts like she's the coach of the other team. I don't care if she's the best Xs and Os, which she's not, get her the ***** out of there. Either defend your players or get lost."

The WNBA's latest controversy involves Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington's flagrant foul on Indiana Fever forward Sophie Cunningham.
There's been a lot of commentary throughout sports media on the incident, with many people accusing Carrington of having ulterior motives. A former NFL star quarterback was the latest to weigh in on the issue, and his comments sparked swift backlash.
Cincinnati Bengals great Boomer Esiason discussed the incident, and believes Carrington's flagrant foul was a sign of jealousy. Esiason believes Carrington may have targeted Cunningham based on Cunningham's looks, beliefs, and popularity.
Notable sports media figure Jemele Hill offered a strong reaction to Esiason's comments. Hill said "I'm sure he's never spoken to a current WNBA player, but he's ecstatic to push the narrative that black players are jealous of white players with no evidence. When white players compete hard against black players, they are celebrated and it's just considered good ball."
"When Black players do it, they're jealous and hateful. THAT is the white privilege DiJonai was talking about — the lack of consistency in reaction and sometimes, punishment," she added.
