While Youngstown State quarterback Beau Brungard received the Stats Perform FCS National Offensive Player of the Week honor on Monday, Indiana State quarterback Elijah Owens was listed among others for honorable mention.
Brungard, a fifth-year senior, accounted for a touchdown in all eight of the Penguins' series possessions, with him at QB, in YSU's 70-13 rout of Duquesne on Saturday. He completed 20 of 23 passes for 290 yards and six TDs, while also running for two touchdowns.
Five other players received honorable mention for the weekly award, including Owens, former Sycamore running back Plez Lawrence (now at North Carolina Central), Montana running back Eli Gillman, Stonehill quarterback Jack O'Connell, and Alcorn State quarterback Jaylon Tolbert.
Owens delivered his best performance as a Sycamore in Indiana State's 42-35 win at Eastern Illinois on Saturday night. The redshirt junior quarterback threw for 284 yards, ran for 98 yards, and scored five total touchdowns (three passing, two rushing). Overall, Owens was 21-of-33 through the air for 284 yards and three passing touchdowns, while adding 18 carries for 98 yards and two additional scores.
Meanwhile, Lawrence — who played at ISU from 2023-25 and rushed for 1,164 total yards in 270 carries — ran for 210 yards and three touchdowns in North Carolina Central's 30-22 win against North Carolina A&T on Saturday in Durham. Lawrence also had a 200-plus-yard game as a Sycamore, gaining 203 yards in 29 carries at Murray State on Sept. 30, 2023.

As we continue to take a look back at the Indianapolis Colts' Week 1 performance against the Baltimore Ravens, let's highlight some noteworthy snap count figures.
For the most part, when it comes to playing time, there aren't many huge surprises, but each week, particularly early on, there are a few things we can glean.
With help from PFF, here are a few quick notes from the Colts' snap count totals from Week 1.
It was reported beforehand that Pierce wouldn't be a full-go in this contest. Out of 54 offensive plays, he was on the field for 32 of them as he continues to ramp up following his return from offseason ankle surgery.
Akeem Davis-Gaither played 64 of the Colts' 67 defensive snaps. Jaylon Carlies was second on the team at this position with 42 snaps, while Bryce Boettcher was third with 23 snaps. CJ Allen did not play any snaps.

Breakout loading. At least that's what the Dallas Cowboys hope after they inked tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford and receiver Ryan Flournoy to a pair of extensions this week. In a break from the norm, the Cowboys went out on a limb and played the speculation market. Channeling his inner oilman, owner Jerry Jones has put his money where his mouth is and bet big on breakouts.
In previous years, it was the Cowboys waiting until after a breakout was achieved before extensions were offered. Terence Steele was signed to a five-year, $82,500,000 deal after his breakout season in 2022. Jaylon Smith was regrettably signed to a five-year, $63,750,000 extension after his breakout season in 2018. And even Dak Prescott, Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland got signed after already establishing themselves high among the NFL hierarchy.
It doesn't take Wallstreet stockbroker to know investing after something has already blown up has its drawbacks. Sure, seeing success insulates from risk, but it also means investors are buying high. Good deals are made through speculation. They come with risk since they're predictive rather than proven, but they also come at a much lower price and with a much higher upside.
After displaying significant growth in 2025, Flournoy has been a media and fan favorite to breakout in a big way this season. Signing a one-year, $6M extension, Flournoy retains his Cowboydom through the 2027 season. This is important because if George Pickens leaves after the current season, Flournoy ensures a level of continuity amongst the top receiver ranks.
Sources: The #cowboys and WR Ryan Flournoy have agreed to a 1-year contract extension worth up to $6M.

Flournoy is coming off a career year with 40 catches for 475 and 4 TDs. He’s expected to have an even bigger role in the offense this season as the solidified WR3 and now gets… pic.twitter.com/p04Q0S80A9

The Tennessee ****** ans were back at practice ahead of a Week 1 game against the New York Jets this Sunday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. Kickoff is scheduled for noon CDT.
At practice, Tennessee welcomed their latest addition, former Indianapolis Colts cornerback Jaylon Jones, who was reunited with defensive coordinator Gus Bradley in Nashville. That familiarity should help him get up to speed quickly and could lead to early playing time.
Outside of welcoming Jones to the team, the ****** ans had almost a full complement of players take part, with only linebacker Cedric Gray sitting out as he navigates the NFL's concussion protocol. With every passing day, it becomes unlikely that Gray will be able to go against the Jets, which could give James Williams or Anthony Hill Jr. extra snaps in the season opener.
Here is the ****** ans' full Thursday injury report:

When Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes went down with a torn ACL, there were panic-stricken takes that he might miss some or most of the 2026 season.
That didn't happen. At every step of Mahomes' recovery he has looked right on track, and it will culminate with him starting on Monday night. He made it back for Week 1, which was within the normal timetable for his injury.
Mahomes should be fine for the opener. But the Chiefs' issues around him persist.
The last thing the Chiefs want to do in Mahomes' first game back, against a very good Denver Broncos defense, is put him in harm's way. But with preferred left tackle Josh Simmons dealing with a back injury and Jaylon Moore, just signed to a two-year, $30 million deal this offseason, staying at right tackle, the Chiefs have had to scramble.
The result is that Mahomes will return and be protected by an undrafted rookie left tackle against a Broncos defense that led the NFL with 68 sacks last season. That's not ideal.

Ahead of the Indianapolis Colts' Week 1 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens, defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo has revealed the team's plan at linebacker.
According to Jake Arthur of Roundtable Sports, Anarumo said that the Colts will probably go with Akeem Davis-Gaither and Jaylon Carlies to start, although that could change during the week of practices.
Anarumo added that this is a position that will be rotated and the evaluation will be ongoing.
#colts DC Lou Anarumo said they'll probably roll first with Akeem Davis-Gaither and Jaylon Carlies at linebacker, but they're going to keep evaluating all week. Linebacker will be a rotation that they'll always be evaluating.
Davis-Gaither being one of the starters does not come as a surprise. As this position was rotated heavily throughout training camp, Davis-Gaither seemed to become one of the constants at the position.

Junior cornerback Kobi Albert set the tone for Southern Miss' 49-3 win over Alcorn State just one minute and 23 seconds into the game.
On a deep ball thrown by Braves quarterback Jaylon Tolbert, Albert jumped up and reeled in his first career interception, setting off an early celebration from both teammates and fans at Renasant Stadium on Sept. 5. It was his first of three interceptions for Albert and five total turnovers for the Golden Eagles.
"He's been a leader since the day we walked in here," senior quarterback Ethan Hampton said of Albert. "I don't think it's a coincidence that our leaders are making a lot of plays. ... He's a great player and he's going to continue to be a great addition for us."
Southern Miss is the fourth program Albert has been played for during his collegiate career. He started at Kentucky, before transferring to Mississippi State and then UConn, before ending up with the Golden Eagles. He entered the game without an interception.
"It's just surreal," Albert said. "The work that I put in in the offseason is just starting to pay off. Really just the work that I put in the past couple of years is starting to pay off. (I've) been at a couple places and haven't really been able to get the opportunity to get on the field. Now that I'm actually able to be on the field, I'm able to show people what I can do."

Former Indiana State Sycamore standout Johnathan Edwards was among the final 53 players on the Indianapolis Colts season-opening roster, announced Sunday night at the NFL's 6 p.m. deadline.
Edwards was one of five cornerbacks listed on the roster, as reported by Colts.com. He joins Sauce Gardner, Jaylon Jones, Justin Walley, Charvarius Ward Sr.
This will be Edwards' second season with the Colts. Last season, Edwards played in 14 games for Indianapolis, starting five of those. Edwards compiled 26 total tackles, including 19 solos and seven ****** ists. The 6-foot-1, 201-pound Edwards, now 24 years old, played at ISU from 2021-23 and then at Tulane in 2024.
The Colts on Sunday made a flurry of transactions to trim their roster to 53 players ahead of Sunday's 6 p.m. deadline.
The roster may change in the coming days, as any waiver claims the Colts are awarded from Sunday's initial round of league-wide cuts will be processed Monday, according to the Colts.com report.

The Indianapolis Colts have completely revamped their defense, and nothing emphasizes that more than comparing last season's initial 53-man roster with this season's initial 53-man roster. While there are only six new players on the offense this season, there are 15 new players on the defense.
Offensively, there are no new additions at quarterback or tight end. Indianapolis has one new running back behind Jonathan Taylor in rookie seventh-rounder Seth McGowan.
On the offensive line, there are two new additions - Jalen Farmer, a 2026 draft pick, and Sedrick Van Pran-Granger, whom the Colts acquired in a trade with the Buffalo Bills. Both players are considered depth pieces.
At wide receiver, they traded Michael Pittman away to the Pittsburgh Steelers. But there are three new additions - seasoned veteran Keenan Allen, seventh-round pick Deion Burks, and veteran Laquon Treadwell, who spent the beginning of the 2024 and 2025 seasons on the practice squad.
Defensively, the Colts have an entirely new linebacker room with the exception of Jaylon Carlies, who started last season on injured reserve (IR). Their other five linebackers - CJ Allen, Bryce Boettcher, Akeem Davis-Gaither, Austin Ajiake and Tahj Chambers - are all new to the initial 53-man roster.

Pittsburgh's preseason ended in heartbreak Thursday night, as the Buffalo Bills scored late to beat the Steelers 28-27 at Highmark Stadium. Head coach Mike McCarthy watched his roster compete one final time before decision day arrived.
By Friday afternoon, the mood inside the building turned serious, and the first wave of cuts landed hard. What happens next will shape how Pittsburgh's sideline looks in Week 1.
The Pittsburgh Steelers released 11 players Friday, their first move in what will be a busy weekend of roster decisions. The team must reach the 53-man limit, and multiple reports indicate the front office has until Sunday at 8 p.m. ET to finish the job.
The August 28 list included tight end Jaheim Bell, offensive linemen Greg Crippen and Jaylon Guilbeau, and defensive backs Jack Henderson, Brandon Hill and Daryl Porter. Wide receivers Jakobie Keeney-James, Tamon Lynum, Cornell Powell and Isaiah Winstead were also let go, along with running back Alex Tecza.

The Chicago Bears traveled to Nashville for their second joint practice of the preseason when they took on the Tennessee **** ans ahead of their game on Saturday.
It was a hot and humid day when practice got underway, which made for some chippiness, as well as a few injury scares. The Bears' offense had their way with the **** ans' defense as multiple skill players got the best of Tennessee's secondary. Ben Johnson also dialed up a few complex plays that put the **** ans in a blender. Defensively, the Bears continued to struggle stopping an opposing offense. Things were made worse when starting cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson exited practice early, though Stevenson did return. And to top things off, a scuffle broke out after a big hit from Bears safety Xavier Woods.
Here's what we learned from Thursday's joint practice.
Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has said he enjoys playing in cold weather, but it seemed like he didn't mind the heat so much either on Thursday. Starting out in practice, Williams was dialed in. According to CHGO's Adam Hoge, he completed 9-for-11 passes with six straight completions. Hoge notes the two incompletions were a throwaway and a drop, with the targets being spread out to eight receivers.
Meanwhile, NFL on Fox's Ben Arthur said Williams made special plays out on the field, highlighting his completion on a layered throw to Rome Odunze. And Blaine Kellar of Main Street Nashville clocked Williams at just three incompletions during the entire first half of practice. Whoever you ask, it's clear Williams had a strong first half of practice before the **** ans began generating pressure and forcing Williams to make poorer throws as the practice concluded.

Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson exited Thursday's joint practice with the Tennessee ****** ans, according to Nicholas Moreano.
Johnson suffered an apparent right arm injury on a run play in 11-on-11 drills, according to Moreano, and he's being elevated by trainer Andre Tucker on the sideline.
According to Patrick Finley, the Bears are now down both starting cornerbacks after Tyrique Stevenson exited with an apparent leg, possibly hamstring, injury.
More to come.

The Pittsburgh Steelers executed a wave of roster moves a few days out from their preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills.
On Monday, the Steelers not only activated Jalen Ramsey off the physically unable to perform list, but signed cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau and running back Alex Tecza, as well as placing defensive back Israel Mukuamu on the reserve/injured list and releasing rookie kicker Laith Marjan.
Guilbeau played four years at Texas (2022-2025) before joining the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent following the 2026 NFL Draft. He recorded 124 combined tackles, one sack, one interception, and 10 passes defended during his college career.
Tecza had a similar path to that of Eli Heidenreich, as he's also a Pittsburgh native who attended Mt. Lebanon High School and played collegiate football at Navy. During his three seasons (2023-2025) as a Navy Midshipman, Tecza recorded 2,687 yards from scrimmage and 26 total touchdowns.
It remains to be seen if both players can get up to speed in time to get a lot of playing time during the preseason matchup against the Bills, but both players are more than likely competing for practice squad spots this close to final roster cuts.

The Steelers have made a couple of signings on Monday.
Pittsburgh announced the club has signed cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau and running back Alex Tecza.
Both players entered the league as undrafted free agents in the spring. Guilbeau played his college ball at Texas while Tecza was at the Naval Academy.
Additionally, the Steelers formally activated defensive back Jalen Ramsey off of the physically unable to perform list.
As a corresponding move, the team placed Israel Mukuamu on injured reserve. Pittsburgh already had a roster spot open after letting go of kicker Laith Marjan.

Has the linebacker battle for the Indianapolis Colts taken an unexpected turn late in training camp?
For much of the offseason, the thought was that rookie CJ Allen would start, and then there was an open competition to determine who would be playing alongside him.
Unfortunately, Allen has missed a lot of time this summer, dealing with a calf and then a hamstring injury. For many players, but particularly rookies, overcoming missed time isn't easy.
Allen has been back on the field as of late, but during Thursday's second joint practice with Atlanta, it was Jaylon Carlies who took the bulk of the first-team reps, alongside of Akeem Davis-Gaither.
Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan noted that Carlies has consistently started over the last week of training camp.

When we started the Cash, Stash, or Slash exercise, I'll be honest, I wasn't really thinking about including Jaylon Johnson. Johnson is only under contract for two years, so he would be an extension candidate after this season, but with the injuries and the change in defense, I felt better to leave Jaylon be and see how this season plays out for him.
But when Jaylon Johnson met the media at the beginning of training camp, he feels that this season is a contract year for him and that he needs to show the Chicago Bears who he is as a player in 2026, that 2025 isn't the player he is, and that he should receive a fresh contract that keeps him in Chicago for a few more years.
So if Jaylon Johnson thinks it's a contract year, who are we to argue?
I don't see how it's at all possible to try and make any determination as to what the future holds for Johnson. First of all, you have to be concerned about injuries for Johnson. Let's not forget that Johnson was a first-round talent that fell to the Bears in round 2 because of injury concerns. And while Johnson did play in all but 3 games in 2023 and 2024 combined, in his other 4 NFL seasons, he's missed a combined 21 games. A player that has missed a season and a half worth of games in six seasons is something to be concerned about when you are offering up a contract extension to a player who will be 28 in 2027.
You also have to look at performance. And I think most of us believe that the drop-off in Johnson's play last year was 95% related to injuries and that, when he's healthy, he would be much closer to the player he was in 2023 and 2024 than the player he was in 2025. But if Johnson's play recovers slightly, but he's still far from the player he was, his contract is fairly forgiving if the Bears want to get out of it one year early.

An improbable story is playing out on the offensive line at Chiefs training camp.
Kahlil Benson started 12 games at right tackle for Indiana during their run to the national ******* le last year, but went undrafted in April. He earned a roster spot with the Chiefs after a tryout at their rookie minicamp and has impressed enough to take all the first-team reps at right tackle over the last two days of practice.
Pete Sweeney of the Kansas City Star notes that Benson has taken the majority of those reps since camp opened and he's now got an inside track to join left tackle Josh Simmons as a starter up front.
"I think Kahlil is doing a great job. I think he's a very physical player. I think he should just add on to that," Simmons said, via Brett Kennedy of KQTV. "I think you can't really teach effort. I mean that's what he's giving out there, so that's really all I'm telling him right now is keep doing that effort."
Jaylon Moore was expected to be the top choice at right tackle in Kansas City this season, but Benson now has momentum and continued success in the preseason could make him one of the league's unlikeliest starters in Week 1.

The Chicago Bears were back at Halas Hall for their fourth practice of training camp on Friday. Despite a weather delay that forced it to be a closed practice, the Bears were able to get some work done in the rain.
While the offense got off to an impressive start to training camp, it was the defense's turn to shine on Saturday, aided a little by the weather conditions. Quarterback Caleb Williams and the offense struggled to get into a rhythm, and the secondary was finally able to best what's been a dominant passing game. There were also some updates in position battles at left tackle and nickel cornerback in the final practice of this first week before the pads come on Monday.
Let's recap Day 4 of Bears training camp:
Defense finally wins the day: For the first three practices, it was the offense that dominated training camp. In fact, the passing game looked unstoppable. But the defense has finally closed the gap, and they had their best practice of the summer. According to Adam Hoge, it was a "bounce back day" for the defense, where safety Coby Bryant and the secondary shined. Bryant had "a really nice interception over the top on a Caleb Williams deep ball" and he "tracked it well." Herb Howard called it a "completely different day at practice" compared to the first three days, and he praised Bryant and cornerback Jaylon Johnson as the standouts. Bryant had the one pick of Williams, but Howard said he nearly had two more. Howard said the defense was "flying around all morning."
Rough outing for Caleb William and passing game: After a dominant first three practices at training camp, quarterback Caleb Williams and the offense had their worst showing of the summer in the rain. According to Herb Howard, "Caleb was not sharp today with his accuracy nor timing. He and Luther Burden, dominant to this point in camp, could not sync up. It was a combination of timing, inaccuracy, and a drop." In the end-of-half two-minute drill, Williams threw three straight incompletions to Burden, per Bear Report. Jeff Buckhalter added that Williams had a "few rough reps/attempts/near picks" during practice. The conditions certainly impacted the passing game, as Adam Hoge noted that there were "too many drops in the slick conditions too. Most of practice was in a light rain." According to Zack Pearson, "felt like the first team offense couldn't get into a rhythm. Drops. Slipping."

CHICAGO — General manager Ryan Poles is going to need to clear some time in his schedule for Jaylon Johnson after the season.
If things go the way the Chicago Bears cornerback envisions, it's going to be time for them to talk about a raise — a big one — for the two-time Pro Bowl selection.
Poles surely loves having players who are supremely motivated and confident in themselves in a very public manner. That's precisely what Johnson did after a wet and soggy practice Saturday morning at Halas Hall.
"This is definitely a contract year," Johnson said in his first media availability since January. "We all know with the cap (has risen) and all that stuff. It's definitely a contract year for me, so at the end of the day, whether that's here or somewhere else, I've got to put it on tape that I am still a top guy in this league."
The next move, of course, belongs to Johnson. Everyone is curious what he looks like after playing in only nine games last season, including the postseason, and dealing with a groin injury that required core muscle surgery.

Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson has always kept his contract situation top of mind ever since coming into the league. From 2023 when he was the subject of trade talks to the summer of 2025 when he discussed possibly doing a new deal after he signed his four-year extension during the spring of 2024, Johnson has never wavered when talking about his future in the league. Now prior to the 2026 season, Johnson eyes a new payday and understands this could be his last season in Chicago.
On Saturday, Johnson met with the media and was asked about 2026 being a pivotal season with the explosion in deals for cornerbacks in recent years. Johnson didn't hesitate with his answer. "It's definitely a contract year," he said. "We all know with the cap hit and all that stuff. It's definitely a contract year for me, so at the end of the day, whether that's here or somewhere else, I've got to put it on tape that I am still a top guy in this league."
Johnson is set to make $24 million in 2026, which is the second-highest total among cornerbacks for this upcoming season, trailing only Marlon Humphrey of the Baltimore Ravens. But as Johnson alluded to, he has no remaining guaranteed money after this season and can be cut next offseason to save $16 million. If 2026 is a repeat of what happened in 2025, then that decision will be easy for the Bears.
Last year, Johnson dealt with groin injuries that caused him to miss two months of games. When he returned to action in late November, Johnson was a shell of himself and played through pain to help the Bears capture the NFC North and return to the postseason for the first time since his rookie year. Now that he's fully healthy, though, Johnson is eyeing a third big contract.
"I'm not a dummy. I structured my deal a certain way to put myself back at the table at the age of 27," Johnson said. "For me, it was always for this point to get here and then show out and do what I do and be healthy and be out there doing what I do best. That's covering, that's making plays, and being a difference maker. And then from there, wherever that contract talk goes, it goes."

The Chicago Bears were back for the third practice of training camp on Friday, which welcomed fans to Halas Hall for the first open workout of the summer.
The Bears put on a show for the fans on Day 3, which was dominated by the offense and featured several standout performances. Quarterback Caleb Williams is off to a hot start this training camp, and his connection continues to grow with his returning cast of weapons in Colston Loveland, Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III. There was also an interesting left tackle battle update, where for the first time this summer it wasn't Braxton Jones running with the first team. Meanwhile, the defense put up a bit of a fight during red zone drills, where Williams threw his first interception of camp.
Here's what we learned from the third practice of training camp:
The Bears offense has overwhelmingly dominated the first three practices of training camp, although the defense has had a few moments. On Friday, it was quarterbacks Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent putting on a show for fans leading Chicago's explosive passing attack that's remained mostly unstoppable. According to Chris Kwiecinski, "Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent stole the show. They were in command, deadly accurate and anticipated routes so well." Williams' connection with Colston Loveland and Rome Odunze thrived while Bagent developed a nice rapport with Jahdae Walker, per Michal Dwojak. Even after Williams threw his first interception of the summer to Jaylon Johnson during red zone work, he "regrouped and made positive plays after."
The Bears offense had another impressive showing, but their one flaw came during the first red zone period, which was dominated by the defense. According to Courtney Cronin, both Montez Sweat and Austin Booker had sacks on back-to-back plays. Williams was picked off by cornerback Jaylon Johnson during a 7-on-7 red-zone drill, but he was able to bounce back later. Mark Carman noted that there was "some sloppiness in the red zone" where "Caleb showed some frustration and leadership." But the offense closed things out on a strong note with a successful two-minute drill, where there was 1:37 left, two timeouts, on own 39 with game tied at 10-10, per Adam Jahns. They went sox plays before Williams connected with Loveland for a 14-yard touchdown. But the best part according to Jahns? "Williams and Bears offense overcame a sack halfway through the drill. Williams-Loveland connection came through."

The Chicago Bears officially kicked off training camp with their first practice on Wednesday morning. While it was a shorter, lighter workout to open the summer, there were still plenty of notable headlines and standouts.
It wasn't an eventful first day of practice as the Bears conducted a light workout that didn't even last 90 minutes, but it's key to ramping up before pads come on next week. There wasn't a lot of notable takeaways, but there were updates amid position battles at nickel cornerback, left tackle, center and punt returner, as well as some early standouts on offense.
Let's recap Day 1 of Bears training camp:
Battle at nickel cornerback: With Kyler Gordon sidelined, Chicago rotated several players at nickel during Wednesday's practice, where it was Jaylon Jones working with the starters for most of the workout. Josh Blackwell, rookie Malik Muhammad and veteran newcomer Cam Lewis also mixed in at nickel throughout the morning.
Braxton Jones gets starting nod at left tackle: Jones will have to hold off Theo Benedet, former first-round pick Jedrick Wills Jr. and Kiran Amegadjie for the starting left tackle job, but the expectation is that the job is Jones' to lose. That certainly appeared to be the case after Jones was working with the first-team offense to kick off training camp on Wednesday, according to Michal Dwojak. Meanwhile, it was Amegadjie working with the second team and Wills following. Benedet worked at right tackle with the second team.

A third Carolina Panthers player has hit the shelf on Tuesday.
Cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau has been placed on the reserve/non-football injury list. The 22-year-old defender and the rest of the team's rookie class reported back to Charlotte this morning, right before the start of training camp.
Guilbeau signed with the Panthers this past spring as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Texas. The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder played four seasons for the Longhorns—amassing 124 combined tackles (8.0 for a loss), an interception, 10 passes defensed and a sack.
Earlier in the afternoon, Carolina placed a pair of veteran starters—right tackle Taylor Moton and cornerback Jaycee Horn—on the NFI list. Horn is expected to return soon after sustaining a cut on his foot while Moton, who was diagnosed with a blood clot in his lung in late June, seems likely to miss some time into the regular season.
The Panthers did not provide any additional information on the nature of Guilbeau's injury.

Q: Ira, compare the starting fives as they stand now on the Philadelphia 76ers, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Miami Heat and tell us which team you think LeBron James would fit the best on? – Barry, Deerfield Beach.
A: In terms of overall talent, Philadelphia would trump the field you mention, with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, V.J. Edgecombe and Dean Wade. The Cavaliers certainly would be close with Donovan Michell, James Harden, Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, and, say, Jaylon Tyson or Max Strus. But when it comes to fit, the best role that suits LeBron James' game at age 41 would be the Heat, where he could play as unquestioned ballhandler and playmaker, while being able to avoid overtaxing defensive ******* ignments, with teammates such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins and Davion Mitchell in place to handle such dirty work. Now, if you're asking where he might have the best chance to win, that would be with the 76ers if Joel Embiid can stay healthy in the playoffs. But that's a big "if."
Submit your "Ask Ira" question here!
Q: The talent of LeBron James would be nice but the documentary baggage and everything that goes with it, not so much. I really enjoyed the Big Three era, but honestly as a Heat fan, I'd really like this to be the Giannis Antetokounmpo/Bam Adebayo era. – Douglas.
A: While the outside concern of a LeBron James "Last Dance" is appreciated, the NBA, and pro sports in general, are a world of potential distractions, between the type of documentary you mention and the non-stop influence of social media. But teams also are built better than ever to handle such supposed distractions. NBA teams have staffer after staffer after staffer ******* ignment to deal with such elements. You don't avoid greatness over concerns of distractions.

LeBron James has informed the Lakers that he'll be playing elsewhere in 2026-27, ending his eight-year run in Los Angeles . The three known suitors are the Cleveland Cavaliers , Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors . None of these are confirmed signings yet, but let's break down the fantasy basketball pros and cons of each scenario and land on a verdict for where his value, and the value of the players around him, lands best.
Pros: A reunion with his original franchise carries obvious sentimental appeal and Cleveland has continuity on its side. James Harden is expected to re-sign, and the Cavs already have a strong foundation built around Donovan Mitchell , Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen . James slots right in as a connective playmaker who can function as a primary or secondary scorer when called upon. Posting a 20-6-7 line like last season is achievable.
Cons: Harden and Mitchell are both high-usage, ball-dominant guards, and adding James on top of that creates some tension for shots and touches. Mitchell's fantasy stock likely takes the biggest hit here, with his scoring volume at risk as he shares the offensive workload with two other veteran ball-handlers. Jaylon Tyson and Max Strus 's roles would be most compressed in this scenario. With so much gravity moving towards Harden and Mitchell, James, Mobley and Allen are better shielded from the crunch, and should get more efficient looks than ever before.
Verdict: Cleveland offers James the most help and the best chance to win. However, it's the worst outcome for the fantasy value of everyone else on the roster, especially Mitchell and Tyson.
Pros: Pairing James with Giannis Antetokounmpo , fresh off Miami's blockbuster trade, would give the Heat two of the most dominant forwards of this NBA generation. James operating as a point-forward alongside Giannis would put so much pressure on defenses. And then you have Bam Adebayo , who has experience playing with LeBron for Team USA, who can cover some of his defensive shortcomings that are bound to show up across an 82-game season. That's a pretty fun team where LeBron would still have the chance to collect ample counting stats across scoring, rebounds and ****** ists.

Once training camp arrives, a "surprise" starter could emerge on defense for the Indianapolis Colts.
Throughout the defensive side of the ball, the Colts experienced heavy roster turnover this offseason, but linebacker may have seen the most.
Zaire Franklin and Germain Pratt, who led the team in snaps at the position in 2025, are no longer on the team. Presumably, CJ Allen is going to be the new MIKE linebacker for the Colts, but the starting spot next to him is very much up for grabs.
The Colts gave several players the opportunity to get reps with the ones during offseason programs, including Akeem Davis-Gaither, who is experienced and played under Lou Anarumo previously, along with Jaylon Carlies, a fairly recent draft pick.
But also in that mix is fourth-round rookie Bryce Boettcher, who, according to ESPN's Stephen Holder, saw a "significant" amount of snaps with the starters.

The Chicago Bears were back at Halas Hall for the final phase of their offseason program with mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, where they conducted the first of three practices this week.
The Bears were in mid-training camp form amid humid weather conditions that are expected to continue for the duration of minicamp. It's good practice for the summer. Overall, the day belonged to the defense, where cornerback Jaylon Johnson and defensive end Montez Sweat made their presence known, but the offense still made plays.
Let's recap what went down during the first day of Bears minicamp. From Jaylon Johnson returning to form to newcomers making plays to injury updates, here's what we learned from Tuesday's practice.
Perhaps the most important takeaway of this three-day minicamp is not to get too concerned with what's happening during these non-padded practices in June. Case in point, Tuesday's session was all defense and therefore a rough go for quarterback Caleb Williams, according to Clay Harbor, who had a "tougher" but "not terrible" day. Williams "made some nice throws" but also missed Colston Loveland for a "potential explosive" play.
Williams also threw two interceptions (both to cornerback Jaylon Johnson). According to Zack Pearson, one of those came during the two-minute drill on what appeared to be a miscommunication with free-agent addition Kalif Raymond, who admitted he's still getting used to this new Ben Johnson offense. Just another reason not to overreact to practices when game action is still months away.

The Chicago Bears are wrapping up organized team activities this week ahead of veteran minicamp next week, and there's been a noticeable difference in Year 2 of the Ben Johnson era compared to this time last year.
It's been a much smoother operation for those players returning for their second season in Johnson's offense and Dennis Allen's defense. With OTAs underway, there have been plenty of standouts, especially on the offensive side of the ball, where quarterback Caleb Williams continues to shine, the young playmakers are showing out and one rookie continues to make headlines.
Following Wednesday's open practice, here are five standouts on offense, who should be integral to the success of the team in 2026.
Second-year wide receiver Luther Burden III is primed for a breakout year in 2026, and he continues to make plays during the offseason program. According to Clay Harbor, Burden "made a couple plays in tight coverage and continues to show up when he gets opportunities." Burden was also on the receiving end of quarterback Caleb Williams' best throw of the day, per Herb Howard. "With Jaylon Johnson tight in coverage, Caleb led Luther on the Crosser, allowing the speedy receiver to catch the ball in stride and continue to run after the catch."
Third-round rookie wide receiver Zavion Thomas has consistently been making plays during the offseason program, and it's not often he hasn't been mentioned among practice takeaways. According to Clay Harbor, Thomas made a couple of plays, where his speed was likely on display, and he's making a strong case as a rookie. Wrote Harbor: "It’s an uphill battle with Kalif Raymond and Jahdae Walker in that WR/returner competition, but he’s quick and had a nice catch today." According to Mark Carman, Thomas had the "catch of the day" from quarterback Tyson Bagent. "Impressive hands on out route where he was fighting to get open."

Cowboys Repeat Risky Trend in New 2026 NFL Mock Draft

In this story:
One thing the Dallas Cowboys haven't shied away from in recent NFL drafts is players coming off injuries.
They've tried to maximize value by selecting sliding players such as Jaylon Smith in 2016 and Shavon Revel Jr. in 2025. Both players were taken a round later than expected due to significant knee injuries.
