The Browns confirmed the release of wide receiver Cedric Tillman on Thursday afternoon and they also announced that they've replaced him on the roster with another 2023 third-round pick.
They have claimed cornerback Mekhi Blackmon off of waivers. Blackmon was cut loose by the Colts on Wednesday.
Blackmon entered the NFL with the Vikings and he was traded to the Colts ahead of the 2025 season. Blackmon appeared in 15 games as a rookie, missed 2024 with a torn ACL and played in all 17 games during his only year in Indianapolis.
Blackmon has 105 tackles, three interceptions, a sack and a fumble recovery for his career. ***** uming he makes it through Sunday's cut to 53 players, he'll try to add to those totals in his third NFL stop.

A few Lions were dinged up during Detroit's 17-13 win over the Washington Commanders in the NFL preseason.
Veteran receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. injured his knee in the first quarter and Lions head coach Dan Campbell said afterwards that he was concerned it might be serious.
"Yeah. I don't know for sure. I'm worried. I'm worried on that one. I love (Cedrick) Wilson, man. He's a smart, crafty football player. Gets it, can play all the spots at receiver, special teams. We don't know. We're getting that knee looked at. We don't know, but I'll leave it at that," Campbell said.
Campbell said that running back Jabari Small was being checked for a concussion, too. Small carried three times for 16 yards.
"He's getting checked. He kind of got dinged there, concussion protocol," Campbell said.

After starting the season on the road against Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers, the Golden State Warriors will have to wait to return home for their home opener in the Bay Area. In their second game of the 2026-27 slate, the Warriors will open the doors of Chase Center for the first time against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, Oct. 23 in San Francisco.
While Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson have headlined Golden State's matchups with Memphis in the past, the 2026-27 home opener will give the Warriors their first chance at a new-look Grizzlies rotation that is littered with young talent, including the No. 3 overall pick from the 2026 NBA draft. Cam Boozer will lead a Grizzlies youth movement alongside Cedric Coward, Zach Edey and Jaylen Wells.
Since Chase Center opened its doors in 2019, the Warriors have struggled in home openers, posting a 2-5 record in seven seasons in San Francisco. However, the Warriors snapped a three-game losing streak in home openers last year when Steph Curry dropped 42 points in an overtime win over the Nuggets.
The Warriors won all three contests against the Grizzlies last season, including a 17-point comeback led by Pat Spencer. Steph Curry only played in one of the three games against the Grizzlies last season.
Golden State's home opener will mark their first back-to-back of the season, with a game against Devin Booker, Dillon Brooks and the Suns the very next day in Arizona. The Warriors will only play two games at home in San Francisco in October. However, November starts with a lengthy homestand at Chase Center.

Tied after nine innings of baseball, the Orioles and Rays each turned to a member of their bullpen to try and keep the other team from scoring. For the Rays, it was Bryan Baker. Baker has transformed himself into a leading closer this year, posting a 1.55 ERA and a league-leading 34 saves. His last 21 appearances have come in Rays wins. For the Orioles, it was Cam Sanders. In 2025-26, Sanders made 15 appearances for the Pirates with an 8.44 ERA and 15 walks in 16 innings. The Orioles claimed him on waivers on July 13th. Which pitcher would you take?
Baker started the 10th inning against his former team with free (and pinch) runner Colton Cowser at second base. He was facing the top of the order, which naturally meant Tyler O'Neill. O'Neill was hitless to that point, but he came through in extras. Baker gave him a 96 mph fastball and O'Neill served it right back up the middle for a single. Cowser scored and the Orioles were back on top, 4-3. Pete Alonso followed with a single, but Baker stopped the bleeding after that. (If you were watching and worried about Alonso's apparent injury on this hit, Craig Albernaz said after the game that his calf was cramping and it's not serious.)
Then it was Sanders's turn. The bushy-bearded four eyes somehow already has two saves for the Orioles. Sanders got the first out on a line drive to center field that made me glad it was Cowser out there, then issued a walk to make things dramatic. But he came back and struck out Cedric Mullins and Richie Palacios to end the game. Orioles win, 4-3! Cam Sanders 1, Bryan Baker 0.
The game started, of course, with Kyle Bradish. He gutted through six innings without his best stuff tonight. His command was off; he was very hittable. Still, he got it done when he needed to and held the Rays to just two runs in six innings. It might have only been one run if not for a throwing error by Carlos Narváez.
Bradish started off pretty well. He worked around a single in the first and after a 1-2-3 second inning was sitting at just 19 pitches. That gave the Orioles the chance to take an early lead. In the second inning, Gunnar Henderson singled with one out. After Christian Encarnacion-Strand flew out, it was up to the bottom of the lineup to bring Henderson home. I am beginning to see why it's not ideal for him to bat fifth.

It's not often you see the losing team have more base hits, draw more walks, and strike out 10 fewer times than the victor, but that is exactly what happened tonight in a 4-3 Rays defeat. Simply put, the Rays had plenty of chances in this game, but left 12 men on base while going 3 for 13 with runners in scoring position while Baltimore had two solo homers by Pete Alonso and Christian Encarnacion-Strand to offset their own nine men left on base tonight.
This game took on a different feel after both teams had wasted their challenges by the 5th inning. The first challenge was lost by the Rays when Junior Caminero challenged a first pitch on the inner black that was confirmed by ABS. That was followed by two challenges lost – one by each team – in one plate appearance. Carlos Narvaez challenged a 2-2 pitch to Cedric Mullins which was uphelp and that was followed by Mullins challenging a 3-2 pitch on the inside black that was indeed a strike. Baltimore's advantage was short-lived when Tyler O'Neill inaccurately challenged the first pitch of the top of the 5th thus leaving both teams without the ability to challenge was was a rather suspect strike zone for the game where several close pitches were called ***** and a few poor ones called strikes as the game went on. All of this is to say that, sometimes, men let their emotions get the better of them and the early challenges, none of which were in big leverage situations.
One particular at bat in the ninth, while not consequential, highlights the risks of burning through the challenges the way it was done. Andrew Kittrege dotted a beautiful 0-1 sinker down and away to Richie Palacios to lead off the 9th, but the ball was called a ball. That would have led to an 0-2 count and the next pitch would have been strike three instead of strike two:

The major deal was announced on Wednesday, and it marks an expansion of the Hornets' partnership with WSOC and TV64, which aired several Hornets games in the 2025-2026 season.

That didn't take long.
A few days after being waived by his new team, former Cincinnati Bengals defender Cam Sample signed with the Atlanta Falcons.
Sample was a surprise cut by the San Francisco 49ers days ago and a mere months into his first foray with a non-Bengals team. Now, he'll get a chance elsewhere in the NFC to prove during training camp and the preseason that he should stick on a final 53.
A fourth-round pick by the Bengals in 2021, Sample appeared in 61 games with the Bengals before signing elsewhere in free agency.
It'll be interesting to see if Sample sticks at what is now his third pro stop. In the meantime, the Bengals have a four-deep defensive end depth chart with Boye Mafe, Shemar Stewart, Cashius Howell and Myles Murphy leading the way and some nice depth pieces like Cedric Johnson, too.

Allen Park — Running back Isiah Pacheco was one of eight Lions who did not participate in Sunday's practice, missing his third consecutive session.
Also absent were wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr., offensive lineman Juice Scruggs, defensive tackle Aidan Keanaaina, defensive end Payton Turner (back), linebackers Damone Clark and Jimmy Rolder (hamstring), and cornerback D.J. Reed (groin).
Lions coach Dan Campbell on Sunday provided updates on Reed and Turner, saying Reed's issue was "not major" and Turner's back ailment is a "day-to-day type thing."
Some of Detroit's biggest stars seemed to be resting Sunday. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, tight end Sam LaPorta, offensive tackle Penei Sewell, defensive end Aidan Hutchinson and linebacker Jack Campbell were each on the field but did not take part in team drills.
LaPorta, Campbell and linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez (ankle) went inside midway through practice. Defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo (groin) and defensive end Derrick Moore (groin) also did not participate in team drills.

The Tennessee ******* ans finished off their second week of training camp with the annual Blue & White scrimmage on Friday night at Nissan Stadium. In what was a competitive contest, the defense eventually prevailed using the modified scoring system.
As with the performances early in training camp, there have been some ups and downs, and that was the case throughout the second week of training camp, with both good and bad performances.
Here's a look at the players who are rising or falling in the training camp stock report.
Williams has consistently made plays throughout training camp and in the scrimmage. The former college safety has reshaped his body, looks explosive, and has made plays at every level of the defense. He has been one of the biggest surprises during the early stage of training camp.
Barton is being pushed by rookie second-round pick Anthony Hill Jr., who continues to gain traction in the defense, and has not made the impact many would have expected. Barton struggled in 2025 and has not taken a step forward during training camp. The veteran linebacker looks stiff in coverage and is being outplayed by Williams, Hill, and Cedric Gray through the first two weeks of camp. No one knows how many linebackers the ******* ans will keep, and Barton needs to pick up the pace.

A former Cincinnati Bengals player is already on the outs with his new team about a week or so into training camps around the NFL.
The San Francisco 49ers waived defensive end Sam Cample this past week, ending his brief tenure with the franchise that started last April.
Sample, a fourth-round pick by the Bengals in 2021, had spent every prior season in Cincinnati and was a key rotational depth piece when healthy. He played in 61 games, registering seven sacks and 85 combined tackles.
No word on why Sample is out in San Francisco. But the Bengals seem content with edge depth right now.
Boye Mafe, Shemar Stewart, Cashius Howell and Myles Murphy are the big investments on the edge, with Cedric Johnson and Isaiah Foskey the primary depth pieces.

It was an impressive showing for the Rays offense last night, as Junior Caminero's two homers and Jonathan Aranda's four hits led the way to a 13-9 victory.
But tonight it was all about the brand new battery, as trade deadline acquisitions Freddy Peralta and and Liam Hicks both made their Rays debuts at pitcher and catcher, respectively. On the other side it was Gabriel Hughes, with just four major league starts under his belt coming into tonight.
Peralta got into some trouble immediately, giving up two hits out of the gate in the bottom of the first, but a double play and a strikeout on an elevated heater to catcher Hunter Goodman limited the damage to just one run. Whether is was just nerves or not to start the game, he recovered nicely to pitch a clean second.
Things were quiet until the top of the third when Cedric Mullins opened the Rays offense with the team's first hit of the night. After a Richie Palacios walk and a Taylor Walls bunt single, the bases were loaded with no outs. Hughes promptly struck out Yandy Diaz, but Aranda followed up with a game tying walk. Caminero gifted Hughes another strikeout, and it looked like Hughes was going to get out of it.

TORONTO (AP) — Griffin Jax allowed one run in six strong innings, Victor Mesa Jr. drove in two runs and the Tampa Bay Rays used a three-run sixth to top the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 on Wednesday night.
Jax (6-7) gave up three hits and walked one while striking out five in his second quality start of the season. Bryan Baker earned his 26th save with a hitless ninth.
Mesa drove in the Rays' first run in the second with a single that tied it at 1.
Tampa Bay took the lead on Chandler Simpson's sacrifice fly in the sixth. Mesa hit another RBI single and Ben Williamson walked with the bases loaded to drive in Cedric Mullins to make it 4-1.
The Rays had batters reach on a bunt single, walk, an error and a hit by pitch in the sixth — the first time in franchise history they had all four in the same inning.

Grizzlies point guard D’Angelo Russell is not believed to be a long-term piece in Memphis, with both sides expected to work together toward a resolution that would allow the 30-year-old to find a new home at some point this offseason — whether via a buyout agreement or a trade — sources tell Yahoo Sports.
Russell, who appeared in just 25 games last season in Dallas, arrived in Memphis earlier this month as part of an expansive six-team deal involving Milwaukee, Washington, Dallas, the LA Clippers and Detroit. The trade also sent center Isaiah Stewart, guard AJ Johnson, three future second-round picks, a conditional first-round pick and a second-round swap to the Grizzlies.
The veteran guard was ****** umed to be part of a ball-handling group in Dallas last season designed to ****** ist in the development of then-rookie Cooper Flagg, but started just three games — seemingly falling out of favor with former head coach Jason Kidd amid options like Ryan Nembhard and Brandon Williams. Russell, who was later traded to the Wizards at the February trade deadline and opted into the final year of his contract ($6 million) in June, would be potentially joining his fourth team in a span of two years.
Russell’s timeline — an experienced player with over 30 playoff games — simply doesn’t align with a rebuilding Grizzlies franchise seeking young, developmental talent centered around a core of Cedric Coward, Zach Edey and recent No. 3 pick Cameron Boozer. Coward and Boozer impressed in Vegas during summer league, with Coward averaging 19 points, 7 ****** ists and 4 rebounds and Boozer finishing the campaign earning first-team honors — and with the Grizzlies reaching the championship game. Memphis is also dealing with a roster crunch after an eventful summer, with 21 players currently on the roster (including Javon Small and Jahmai Mashack who are on two-way contracts).
The next question for Russell at this stage of the offseason will be finding a situation outside of Memphis where his skill set fits with an already established ecosystem. At a glance, his career stats paint the picture of a more-than-capable floor general — 17 points, 3.3 rebounds and 5.6 ****** ists on .427/.363/.793 splits — but his recent inconsistency requires a larger lens. When Russell has dominated the ball, he’s been shown to be a quality creator who threads the needle well between usage, playmaking and scoring prowess. The challenge for him, at least over the course of his recent stops with the Lakers, Nets and Mavericks has been dealing with efficiency under the umbrella of shot distribution and overall pecking order — along with remaining effective on the defensive end.

After Cameron Boozer and the Memphis Grizzlies fell to the Golden State Warriors in the 2026 NBA Summer League championship, fans were curious to know who would take home tournament MVP honors.
Although ESPN named Boozer their MVP of the tournament, NBA voters didn't quite see it the same way, awarding Boozer's rival, Yaxel Lendeborg, with the trophy. However, Boozer was recognized as one of the top players throughout the summer, being named to the 2026 NBA Summer League First Team. Boozer was joined by Lendeborg, Caleb Wilson, Brayden Burries and Meleek Thomas, the only second-rounder to make the first team.
Boozer's teammate Cedric Coward was named on the second team, as well as Zyon Pullin, Egor Demin, Liam McNeeley and another Duke alum, Khaman Maluach of the Phoenix Suns.
The top-two selections in the 2026 NBA Draft (AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson) did not make either team; however, they played in just two and three games, respectively.

Memphis Grizzlies rookie Cam Boozer was named an All-NBA Summer League first-team selection on July 21.
The franchise's first-round pick led the team to the summer league **** le game, where it lost to the Golden State Warriors on July 19.
Boozer, the former Duke star who was taken No. 3 overall in the June draft, played in eight of the Grizzlies' nine summer league games. In the games played in Vegas, Boozer averaged 18.5 points, eight rebounds and 3.7 **** ists.
Second-year player Cedric Coward was also recognized for his work during summer league play, landing second-team honors after averaging 19 points and 7 rebounds a game, while shooting 41.7% from the 3-point line.
Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg was named summer league MVP. Rounding out the first team were Brayden Burries (Bucks), Meleek Thomas (Cavs) and Caleb Wilson (Bulls).

Brooklyn Nets guard Egor Demin had already been considered "too good" for summer league with the way he played during the California Classic given how much he improved on both ends of the floor. With that being said, Brooklyn had to be pleased to see Demin playing as well as he did and the NBA recognized just how much impact he had in Las Vegas.
The NBA announced on Tuesday that Demin played well enough during the Las Vegas Summer League that he was placed on the 2026 NBA All-Summer League second-team. Joining Demin on the second team was Minnesota Timberwolves guard Zyon Pullin, Memphis Grizzlies Cedric Coward, Charlotte Hornets forward Liam McNeeley, and Phoenix Suns center Khaman Maluach.
Demin, 20, finished the Las Vegas Summer League with averages of 21.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.3 **** ists, and 2.3 steals per game while shooting 42.6% from the field and 30.0% from behind the three-point line. While Demin made the second team for what he did in Las Vegas, one could argue that he was better in Sacramento during the California Classic as he averaged 23.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 **** ists, and 1.0 steals per contest while shooting 55.6% from the floor and 26.7% from deep.
Not only has Demin been recognized as one of the better players that took part in the Las Vegas Summer League, but ESPN's Ben Golliver regarded Demin as the best sophomore of the bunch. While summer league isn't necessarily comparable to playing NBA basketball on a nightly basis, Demin performing well has to do wonders for the team as well as his confidence.
Demin did not shoot the ball well in summer league play compared to how well he shoot the three-pointer during his rookie season, but he showed that he has the ability to be physical on both ends of the floor thanks to his work in the weight room. Demin spoke about how much he was trying to improve the flaws in his game and now, the NBA has recognized how much work he has put in to get better.

The Grizzlies beat the Warriors in an NBA Summer League game at ****** Pavilion in Las Vegas on July 14, but the path there was anything but straightforward.
Even though many teams have started to rest or completely shut down their top players, the Grizzlies started both Cam Boozer and Cedric Coward. Neither played particularly well, though.
Instead, it was Javon Small and Brendan Hausen who led the Grizzlies to a 106-85 win over the Yaxel Lendeborg-led Warriors.
Here are our takeaways from the game.
There was no doubt that Small and Hausen were the Grizzlies' standouts against the Warriors. Small was effective throughout, scoring 26 points and dishing out seven ****** ists as he controlled the game as the Grizzlies' point guard. He was also 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, and the Warriors had no answers for his offensive game.

Auburn football won the battle against archrival Alabama for the pledge of three-star wide receiver Cedrick Simmons in June. However, it appears the battle for Simmons' signature on signing day is far from over.
Steve Wiltfong of Rivals submitted a prediction on Tuesday, favoring Alabama to flip Simmons from Auburn. The forecast now puts Alabama ahead in Simmons' recruitment at 57%, compared to Auburn's 41%.
Simmons chose Auburn over the Crimson Tide on June 23, committing to Auburn the same day as Prattville wide receiver Dashawn Hall. His decision was hard to predict as neither Rivals nor 247Sports had an idea where he would commit heading into the day.
Auburn has hauled in two other wide receivers for its 2027 recruiting class in addition to Simmons, both of whom rank higher than Simmons in Rivals' position rankings. Dashawn Hall is the No. 29 receiver in the class, and Brylan Odur is No. 61, compared to Simmons, who is No. 81 among 2027 wide receivers. The Tigers also have a solid young receiver class that includes Dashawn Spencer, Sam Turner, Bryce Cain, Brady Marchese, and Jeremiah Koger, who are all sophomores or freshmen ahead of the 2026 season.
Auburn football's 2027 recruiting class ranks No. 12 in Rivals' rankings and No. 6 among SEC teams as of Tuesday with 26 commitments.

Ipswich Town are back in the Premier League and, this time, they look determined to stay there. After finishing second in the Championship and bouncing straight back following relegation from the 2024/25 top-flight campaign, the club have wasted little time reshaping the squad for another crack at survival.

That is where this transfer window starts to matter. No team has been on fire this month in recruiting like the Auburn Tigers. As of writing, 24 players are committed to Auburn football's 2027 recruiting class.
Five of those commits are coming from in-state, and three are rated in the top-10, according to Rivals. Auburn's commits from Alabama are LB Isaac McNeil (Mobile), DL Donivan Moore (Bessemer), WR Deshawn Hall (Prattville), WR Cedrick Simmons (Selma), and S Preston Williams (Skipperville).
The highest-rated of the bunch is McNeil, who is a four-star and has a 92.96 Rivals score. He is the second-best player in the state and No. 7 at his position in the nation, according to Rivals. The Tigers landed his commitment back on June 2, after a successful May 29 weekend visit.
For the defensive lineman, Moore was the first commit of the class for Auburn. Coming out of Bessemer City High School as a four-star, Moore verbally committed to Auburn on Feb. 12. Rivals places him at No. 7 in the state and No. 16 at his position.
The most recent commit to date is Hall, where he announced his commitment on June 23. Seen as one of the top wide receivers in the class, he ranks No. 9 in the state. Rivals has his score at 91.20.

After a rather underwhelming June in which it felt at times that the Rays were in free fall destined to repeat the 2025 season spiral, they rebounded and rattled off five consecutive wins. If the Boston Celtics are going to trade star forward Jaylen Brown away, they had better get a haul for it according to fellow former Celtics finals MVP and current Boston broadcaster Cedric Maxwell. Cornbread (as Maxwell is sometimes called for a nickname) recently shared his point of view on all the Brown trade scuttlebutt on a recent episode of the NBC Sports Boston "Arbella Early Edition" show in conversation with cohosts Trenni Casey, Tom Giles and Phil Perry.
"I am a huge Jaylen Brown fan," explained Maxwell. "I would hate to see you lose him, but I understand that there's some business aspects that come into play."
"If I was the Celtics right now, I'd want a ****** of a package for him because Jaylen Brown was one of the top 10 players, one of the top seven players in the NBA last year," added the North Carolina native.
"He became All-NBA, All-World essentially, and one thing he said, 'I am right now the best two-way player in the NBA other than that the alien down in San Antonio,.'" suggested Maxwell.
"He has a good case that what he's been able to do for this team and how valuable he's been to this team."

Three-star wide receiver Cedrick Simmons has reportedly committed to Auburn, per Rivals' Hayes Fawcett.
Simmons is a talented receiver that could have potentially made a major impact on the Crimson Tide's offense. The route runner chose Auburn over Alabama and Purdue, per Fawcett, as Simmons had the Tide listed as a top landing spot until his commitment decision. Simmons recently took an official visit to Alabama prior to announcing his final decision, but the receiver has ultimately decided to play for the Tigers over the Tide nonetheless.
Simmons is currently ranked as the No. 40 athlete and the No. 629 overall player from the class of 2027, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is listed as the No. 24 overall player out of Alabama as well, attending Selma High School.
Alabama has targeted some of the top overall players from the class of 2027 throughout the offseason, and the Tide will now turn elsewhere following Simmons' Auburn commitment.

Three-star wide receiver Cedrick Simmons will choose between Auburn and Alabama on Tuesday, and the two in-state rivals have an equal chance of landing him. During a recent interview with Rivals, Simmons said both teams are fighting hard to add him to their 2027 recruiting classes and that his decision will be difficult.
Unlike Auburn's recent commitments, Simmons' decision is hard to predict. Simmons himself says he has plenty to think about, and neither recruiting outlet has named a convincing favorite as of Sunday morning. Neither Auburn nor Alabama has a crystal ball prediction for Simmons from 247Sports or an expert prediction from Rivals.
However, the only indication of a possible winner is Rivals' Recruiting Prediction Machine, which gives Auburn a 51.6% chance of earning his commitment. Alabama is next in line with a 26% forecast, followed by Purdue at 17%.
Simmons played high school football alongside fellow Auburn wide receivers Duke and Erick Smith at Southside Selma High School before he announced his intent to transfer to Selma High School ahead of his senior season. The 5-foot-9, 190-pound wide receiver is the No. 26 player from Alabama in the 2026 recruiting cycle, according to both 247Sports and Rivals.

During the offseason, the Tampa Bay Rays got rid of quite a few outfielders. They traded Jake Mangum, Josh Lowe, and Kameron Misner while non-tendering Christopher Morel.
Needing some bodies out there, the club decided to take a chance on Cedric Mullins. The two sides agreed to a one-year, $7.5 million contract with a mutual option for the 2027 season.
But unless something changes soon, he won't be back next year. Much like his time with the New York Mets after last year's trade deadline, he has failed to get much of anything going with the bat in his hands, hitting .198/.288/.311 with six home runs and 21 runs batted in.
