Apple has accused an OpenAI employee of taking pictures of its secret product plans as part of a legal battle between the two companies.
In an update to its lawsuit against the ChatGPT maker, Apple said that a member of its staff "took screenshots of confidential Apple documents relating to an unannounced Apple product before an interview at OpenAI".
The US tech giant is seeking to force the former employee, who now works at OpenAI, to testify as part of its lawsuit against the AI company.
Apple sued OpenAI last month, claiming that former staff had stolen trade secrets and taken them to the ChatGPT maker, in some cases continuing to access the iPhone maker's IT systems after leaving the company.
OpenAI is developing an AI device in collaboration with Sir Jony Ive, the former Apple design chief, which could compete with future Apple products.

Apple (AAPL) is about to hand its top position to an engineer, and the early signs suggest the company's focus may be shifting even more toward its products. John Ternus becomes CEO on September 1, taking over from Tim Cook, who steps into the role of executive chairman. Ternus is not a finance or operations leader like Cook. He has spent his whole career in hardware, having joined Apple's product design team in 2001 and running its hardware engineering since 2013.
His track record is stacked with the products people actually hold. Ternus helped bring the iPad and AirPods to life, and oversaw hardware work across the iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch. More recently, his teams redefined the iPhone 17 lineup, including the thin iPhone Air, and gave AirPods the ability to work as hearing aids. Even Cook, while announcing the handover, described Ternus as having "the mind of an engineer, the soul of an innovator."

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) continued its streak of strong iPhone sales during its fiscal third quarter, but the stock fell as service revenue and China sales came up short of expectations. Nonetheless, the stock is still up around 48% over the past year.
Apple once again saw robust iPhone sales, as consumers rushed to buy the smartphone ahead of expected price increases due to rising component costs. iPhone revenue jumped 22% year over year to $54.3 billion in the quarter ended June 27, which was ahead of the $53.86 billion consensus, as compiled by LSEG. It saw strength across both developed and emerging markets, and its installed base hit an all-time high.

On the surface, Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) delivered a strong third-quarter earnings report with revenue jumping 16% to $109.4 billion, edging out the consensus at $109 billion.

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) has long been one of the most valuable companies in the world. But the iPhone maker saw its shares underperform many of the biggest artificial intelligence (AI) stocks over the last few years, ultimately leading it to lose its throne as the top company by market cap to Microsoft in May 2025, before Nvidia surpassed both companies in June 2025.
It's been over a year since Apple was the most valuable company in the world, the longest streak since it first climbed to that position in 2011.

Apple said it is facing severe supply constraints that will affect sales of iPhones and Macs in the months ahead, underscoring the challenges looming over the company as Tim Cook prepares to hand over the CEO reins.
In his final earnings call as CEO, Cook said he has never been more optimistic about the opportunities ahead for Apple. "I am beyond excited," said Cook, who has led the company for 15 years and will pass the CEO baton to John Ternus in September. But Cook's confidence in the future stood in contrast to the picture that he and other executives painted of the current business conditions.
"We're seeing some very significant constraints currently, with limited flexibility in the supply chain," Cook said. "There's a quarter where we're going to be scrambling on the supply side," he acknowledged at another point.
The supply crunch is making it more difficult for Apple to obtain the advanced processors it needs for its phones and computers. And that translates into lower revenue.
Sales of the iPhone, which accounts for roughly half of Apple's business, will grow at a "mid-teens" percentage rate in the current quarter, Apple said, forecasting a significant deceleration from the 22% growth the iPhone business posted in the recently ended quarter. Total revenue in the current quarter will grow between 9% and 10% year-over-year, which was below the 12% rate expected by ***** ysts.

Longtime Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) CEO Tim Cook will host his final earnings conference call after the bell on Thursday, July 30. While Cook was not the same type of innovator as his predecessor, Apple founder and legendary CEO Steve Jobs, he did a great job of nurturing Apple's core strengths. He will leave as Apple is the largest company in the world, with a market cap of $5 trillion. The question, though, is whether the stock is still a buy with him ready to depart.

When Apple reports its fiscal third-quarter results, investors should expect much of the same. iPhone sales should be solid, with the company reportedly seeing a 3% increase in shipments during the quarter and gaining its highest-ever global market share at 20%, according to Centerpoint Research. This should then feed into its high-margin service revenue, which has consistently grown at a mid-teen rate.
Cook leaves Apple as having one of the best business models on the planet, making it easy for its next CEO to get off to a running start. The beauty of Apple is its closed ecosystem, which helps lock in customers. Once someone buys an iPhone, the cost of switching becomes increasingly difficult with each photo taken, subscription bought, and app downloaded. Users then become a part of Apple's huge service revenue machine. Apple is getting a high-margin revenue stream every time someone clicks on a search ad (as it gets a 36% revenue cut from Alphabet's Google), uses Apple Pay, buys cloud storage, or purchases a subscription or app.
Meanwhile, Apple just increased prices for several devices and certain service plans. This should be a nice revenue driver in the coming quarters after Cook leaves, giving incoming CEO John Ternus a solid revenue tailwind as he takes the reins. Ternus will also have time to execute a more comprehensive AI strategy for the company. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Cook's decision to sit back and not throw huge amounts of money into chasing AI models proves to be a smart one.

LONDON, July 29 (Reuters) - Apple said on Wednesday that proposed UK rules governing its App Store would amount to price regulation, arguing that plans to loosen its control over in-app payments could undermine innovation and investment.
In a submission to Britain's Competition and Markets Authority, the iPhone maker said proposed "steering" requirements would go beyond promoting competition and give the regulator a "highly intrusive" role in managing its business.
The CMA's consultation, which closed on Monday, is part of its efforts to boost competition and consumer choice. Its proposed measures would allow app developers to direct users to payment options outside Apple's App Store and Google's Play Store and require any fees charged for such steering to be fair and reasonable.
A CMA spokesperson rejected Apple's characterisation of the proposals as price regulation.

July 29 (Reuters) - Apple's decision to hold iPhone prices steady is set to power its strongest June-quarter sales growth in five years, but investors will want to know how long it can resist an increase.
The consumer electronics giant raised iPad and MacBook prices last month as it sought to offset cost increases from a shortage of memory and storage chips caused by massive AI datacenter buildouts.
But the company spared its cash cow, iPhones, even as rival smartphone makers were forced to pass on the higher costs that prompted a decline in global smartphone shipments in the April-June quarter, to the lowest in 13 years.
Apple's decision paid off: iPhone shipments rose 3% and the company's market share climbed to nearly a fifth, estimated research firm Counterpoint.

Apple is due to report earnings Thursday afternoon, with options pricing suggesting traders see its stock swinging up to about 4% by the end of the week.
Thursday's report will be Apple's last with Tim Cook as CEO, with John Ternus set to take over the top job in September.
Apple is set to report earnings after the closing bell Thursday, with traders expecting the iPhone maker's stock could extend its record-setting rally following the results.
Based on current options pricing, Apple (AAPL) shares are seen swinging up to about 4% in either direction by the end of the week. A move of that size from Tuesday's close could send the stock up to a new record above $352, or back below $328, giving up some of its recent gains.
After overtaking Nvidia (NVDA) as the world's most valuable company and watching its market capitalization briefly cross the $5 trillion threshold, Apple saw its shares finish Tuesday's session 1% higher at a closing record of $340. The iPhone maker's stock has added one-quarter of its value this year amid optimism around strong iPhone sales and anticipated advances under new CEO John Ternus, who's set to take the helm from Tim Cook in September.

Apple (AAPL) on Tuesday briefly became the second publicly traded company in history to hit a market capitalization of $5 trillion.
The tech giant hit the milestone less than a year after topping $4 trillion in October 2025.
Apple stock is up roughly 24% year to date and nearly 60% over the past 12 months, driven by strong iPhone sales.
Investors have criticized Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple over the past few years, concerned that the company was too far behind in the AI race. While Apple initially debuted its Apple Intelligence platform in 2024, it delayed key parts of the software, including an upgraded version of Siri.
That led to executive shakeups at the company. Apple eventually signed a deal to use Google's (GOOG, GOOGL) Gemini AI models to power the voice ***** istant.

The markets always consist of differing views on companies — no single person has perfect information.
This rings home as KeyBanc Capital Markets sounded a bearish call on Apple's (AAPL) ahead of its earnings report this Thursday.
Quick insight: KeyBanc ****** yst Brandon Nispel reiterated an Underweight rating, or Sell, on Apple stock today. With a $250 price target, he expects Apple stock to plunge about 26% from current levels.
"With Apple providing a safe haven to the sell-off in semis, we think they are missing the bigger picture, which squarely fits our thesis: as Apple raises iPhone prices, unit growth will slow, and as unit growth slows, so will user growth, which we think ultimately will slow Services growth," Nispel said in a note.
"In addition, with Apple trading at ~34x P/E, and a growth profile that is shifting from volume-led growth to pricing-led growth, we think investors should apply a lower valuation multiple. To us, this makes Apple overvalued at current levels," he explained.

Jim Cramer made his stance clear during Monday's Mad Money episode, confirming that his Charitable Trust is holding firm on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) despite relentless criticism from tech commentators. Rebuffing market anxiety over delayed AI features, Cramer argued:
There is some real opportunity here, and I'm not blind to it. That said, let me tell you what we're doing. First, we are not touching the Trust's longstanding Apple position. The sharp knives are indeed out for the Apple, let's say, management from the tech intelligentsia. The intelligentsia say that Apple will miss the most important story of our lives: artificial intelligence. They lambaste Siri. They regard the lost opportunity as critical to Apple's failure for the next generation. Yet you know what? These same people are posting from their iPhone 17 Pro Max. You know what? They would rather slit their wrists than switch to Samsung... So in its core business, Apple's bulletproof, and they never spent much on AI in the first place.
Addressing a $7 intra-day pullback, Cramer pointed out that Apple's deliberate refusal to match competitors' massive infrastructure spending actually protects shareholder value:
I want you to think about this as you look at Apple, down seven bucks today. Did anyone switch to Samsung during this travesty of an AI issue? Did anyone say, that's it, I am sick of it, I'm sick of the 17 Pro Max; get me a Lenovo? Perhaps the cognoscenti wishes that Apple would spend $200 billion, maybe 70% on the data center structure and power, maybe give the rest of Google TPUs; maybe buy some expensive NVIDIA GPUs. As someone who owns Apple for my Charitable Trust, I actually like that they let Alphabet spend those billions of dollars on AI and then they've had Alphabet pay them a nominal sum so it was in the iPhone. The pros have a term for this Apple-Alphabet deal. You know what it's called? A great deal.
Cramer's perspective aligns with institutional commentary ahead of Apple's July 30 earnings report. Bank of America ***** yst Wamsi Mohan maintained a Buy rating and $380 price target, projecting an earnings beat with $109 billion in revenue (+16% YoY) and $1.89 EPS. It is worth noting that this earnings call will mark Tim Cook's final appearance as CEO.

There is some real opportunity here, and I'm not blind to it. That said, let me tell you what we're doing. First, we are not touching the Trust's longstanding Apple position. So far, artificial intelligence has mostly been considered in terms of infrastructure investments, which have attracted all the investors' attention to companies like Nvidia (NVDA) and hyperscalers. The situation might start changing soon as HSBC is convinced that Apple (AAPL) is approaching the time when it can benefit from having a big installed base instead of engaging in an AI arms race. At the same time, the company has one of its best product lines ever, which makes Apple ready to enter a new upgrade cycle as it takes back the ******* le of the world's most valuable publicly traded company from Nvidia.

Apple (AAPL) has cleared one of the biggest obstacles to its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy. After months of regulatory delays, China's cyberspace regulator has approved Apple Intelligence for launch in the country, allowing Apple to bring its AI features to the world's largest smartphone market through a partnership with Alibaba Group Holding Limited (BABA). The Chinese version of Apple Intelligence will integrate Alibaba's Qwen large language model, while Baidu (BIDU) will also support certain localized AI capabilities to comply with China's strict AI regulations.
The approval could be far more significant than a routine product rollout. China remains one of Apple's most important markets, but intensifying competition from domestic smartphone makers offering advanced AI features has weighed on iPhone demand in recent years.

Wedgewood Partners, an investment management company, released its first-quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. Wedgewood Composite delivered a net return of 9.4% in the second quarter compared to 15.2% for the Standard & Poor's 500 Index, 16.7% for the Russell 1000 Growth Index, and 13.9% for the Russell 1000 Value Index. The firm is optimistic about the long-term growth of hyperscalers and has increased its investments in this sector, citing their significant earnings potential and crucial role in AI adoption. Capital has also been redirected towards technology hardware stocks, especially semiconductors, which now make up a larger share of the S&P 500 Index. Semiconductor stocks have benefited from hyperscalers' spending, but the firm expresses caution about cyclical risk and volatility. However, the momentum-driven market negatively affected the Wedgewood fund's high-quality stocks, leading to a 25% return over the past 15 months, significantly underperforming the 90% gain of the S&P 500 Momentum ETF (SPMO). In addition, please check the Fund's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Wedgewood Partners highlighted Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is a leading multinational technology company that manufactures and markets smartphones, personal computers, tablets, wearables, and accessories. On July 16, 2026, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) closed at $333.26 per share. One-month return of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) was 11.83%, and its shares gained 57.81% over the past 52 weeks. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has a market capitalization of $4.89 trillion.
Wedgewood Partners stated the following regarding Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) in its Q2 2026 investor update:
"Top performance contributors for the second quarter include Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, Alphabet, United Rentals, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), and Visa.
Apple was also a top contributor to performance during the quarter. Revenues grew 17%, driven by 22% growth in iPhone and 16% growth in services. The iPhone 17 family has catalyzed a solid upgrade cycle ahead of what we expect to be another strong launch later this year, featuring a new foldable form factor. Because input prices for DRAM have risen at a parabolic rate, the Company recently raised prices on some of its devices to pass these costs through. As one of the largest single purchasers of DRAM, the Company has strong negotiating leverage, but it can also implement hardware and software innovations to reduce its dependence on memory."

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) was among Jim Cramer's stock calls on Mad Money, as he advised investors to stick with the largest tech companies in the market. Cramer discussed the company's AI strategy, as he said:
You know what held back Apple for ages? Its lack of data centers spending, lack of it… See, all that's comparison stuff; ooh, they're not spending enough. Yeah, it was constantly under fire for not shelling out fortunes on an AI strategy. Even the other guys were under fire because they were constantly shelling out fortunes on an AI strategy.
Alright, this comparisons game gotta stop. No, Apple didn't build its own AI. It's not in that business. The crazy thing, though, is that they have a superior consumer product. Now, Google's Gemini is basically the default AI on your iPhone. Are they given the benefit of the doubt on it? No, because Siri isn't smart enough. I say, don't sell Apple. The company has a product that's unusually, maybe it's just not the best… It's not the best. Typically, everything they make is the best, but history says they will eventually get there.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) manufactures and sells devices such as the iPhone, Mac, iPad, along with its line-up of wearables and accessories. The devices are supported by the company's app ecosystem, AppleCare, and cloud tools.
While we acknowledge the potential of AAPL as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. If you're looking for an extremely undervalued AI stock that also stands to benefit significantly from Trump-era tariffs and the onshoring trend, see our free report on the best short-term AI stock.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is one of the 10 Best Stocks to Buy in 2026 According to Billionaire D.E. Shaw.
Consumer electronics giant Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)'s shares are up by 48.9% over the past year and by 16,9% year-to-date. Evercore ISI discussed the firm on June 25th, as it kept a $365 share price target and an Overweight rating on the stock. The coverage came after Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) made a major announcement due to the ongoing historic shortages in the memory market. This announcement saw the firm increase its product prices across the board due to the pricey memory chips. Everocre remarked that the price hikes showed that even Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), despite its heft, was not immune to component pricing pressures.

A few days earlier, on June 22nd, KGI Securities had downgraded the shares. It had cut the rating to Hold from Outperform and kept a $315 share price target. More recently, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been in the news due to a historic leak of details about its iPhone 18. The upcoming smartphone's pictures, supplier list and other details were leaked after India's Tata Electronics was targeted by a cyberattack.
While we acknowledge the risk and potential of AAPL as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and doing so within a shorter time frame. If you are looking for an AI stock that is more promising than AAPL and that has 10,000% upside potential, check out our report about the cheapest AI stock.

Apple (AAPL) is suing OpenAI (OPAI.PVT), accusing the AI lab of trade secret theft as part of its effort to develop its own AI hardware devices.
"OpenAI and its cohorts have been engaging in a coordinated pattern of misconduct at an institutional level," Apple claims.
In its suit, filed in the US District Court for Northern California, Apple alleges that OpenAI's hardware chief Tang Tan, who previously served as vice president of product design at Apple, and Chang Liu, a former Apple electrical engineer who now works at OpenAI, colluded to steal information from the iPhone maker that would help it build its AI products.
According to the suit, Tan began emailing himself information about Apple's suppliers before leaving his position at the company and moving on to OpenAI.
The lawsuit also states that Tan would use internal Apple codenames when interviewing candidates for positions at OpenAI who worked at Apple, in an effort to dig up further information. Tan, the suit says, also requested candidates who still employed by Apple to bring "actual parts" to interviews for "show and tell" sessions.

July 10 (Reuters) - Apple on Friday sued OpenAI and two former employees, alleging misappropriation of its trade secrets to benefit the ChatGPT-owner's foray into consumer hardware, a dramatic escalation of already simmering tension between the two companies.
The complaint accuses OpenAI of orchestrating a broad effort to systematically acquire and exploit Apple's confidential information through former employees, recruiting practices and supplier relationships to accelerate its push into the consumer hardware business.
"We have no interest in other companies' trade secrets," OpenAI said in a statement. "We remain focused on building innovative technology that empowers people everywhere."
The lawsuit sets up a battle over who will control future AI devices that may not use traditional apps or operating systems — devices which, if successful, would direct consumer attention away from Apple's best-selling iPhone. ******* ysts believe OpenAI is working on a phone or other device of its own.

Apple (AAPL) just wrote Broadcom (AVGO) a gigantic check, and it says a lot about where both companies think the next decade of technology is headed. The two companies announced a new multiyear agreement worth more than $30 billion, according to a company statement.
It calls for Broadcom to design and build custom chips and wireless components for Apple products, with more than 15 billion American-made chips expected to come out of the deal. For a company that has spent the past three years benefiting from the AI megatrend, this Apple news is a reminder that Broadcom still has a massive, profitable business making legacy parts for iPhones and other devices.

Tech stocks were volatile on Wednesday as renewed US-Iran tensions and a debate over a potential artificial intelligence bubble pressured the sector.
The Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) fell 0.8%, led by a decline in software stocks.
AI memory chip stocks extended losses on Wednesday after selling off the day before. A Reuters report that China's DeepSeek is developing its own artificial intelligence chip weighed on the sector, as did concerns about sustaining AI demand, despite Samsung's impressive quarterly results.
Broadcom (AVGO), however, jumped over 4% after inking a multiyear, $30 billion chip deal with Apple (AAPL). The company will design and produce custom silicon and other components for Apple products as part of the iPhone maker's push to shore up its US manufacturing program.
The chip trade will get another catalyst this week, as Samsung rival SK Hynix (000660.KS) is scheduled to begin selling American depositary receipts (ADRs) soon, launching a US listing for the world's top supplier of high-bandwidth memory.

Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) currently holds the ***** le of the world's most valuable company, and Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) is close again. As of this writing, Nvidia carries a market capitalization of about $4.7 trillion, some $190 billion -- or about 4% -- ahead of Apple at about $4.5 trillion. Apple closed much of the gap on Thursday, jumping nearly 5% on reports of an expanded iPhone lineup, while Nvidia slipped alongside a broader sell-off in chip stocks.
So, could Apple retake the crown this month? Here's how the two sides stack up.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
As far as its business momentum goes, Nvidia is in a class of its own. In its fiscal first quarter of 2027 (the period ended April 26, 2026), revenue rose 85% year over year to $81.6 billion, with data center revenue setting a record at $75.2 billion. The chipmaker trades at about 30 times earnings.
The catch for the crown race is timing. Nvidia doesn't report again until late August, so it has no company catalyst this month -- its share price is at the mercy of artificial intelligence (AI) sentiment, which has turned jumpy on worries about how much the AI build-out will cost. That souring mood is exactly what let Apple close the gap.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) was among the stocks on Jim Cramer's Mad Money radar as he taught investors how to profit from the upcoming wave of takeovers. Cramer highlighted the effect of rising cost of components on the company's stock, as he remarked:
Fourth, Apple was down over 7% in June thanks to the skyrocketing cost of components, especially memory chips. I think it's vital that the US government allows Apple to buy low-end memory from China. Oh, and your phone is going up in price because the data center companies are bidding up the price for many of the chips that go into smartphones. But Apple has the best AI at a very cheap price thanks to its deal with Google… Higher prices mean lower sales. That's what people think. We need to see the quarter and hear what they say in their forecast.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) manufactures and sells devices such as the iPhone, Mac, iPad, along with its line-up of wearables and accessories. The devices are supported by the company's app ecosystem, AppleCare, and cloud tools. Cramer addressed the selling in the stock during the June 10 episode. He commented:
Whatever you do, don't take the selling in the stocks of Apple or NVIDIA personally. I bet most of that selling is from people who think they might get some ****** eX, so they need to be able to pay for it. These two stocks have become huge sources of funds for all the new deals. People feel better about taking gains than losses. For now, they're simply donors to the ****** eX cause. Understand, I'm not speaking ill of either stock. The opposite, I'm in explain mode here. I love Apple and NVIDIA, own them, don't trade them.
I'm simply saying that this is what happens in the run-up to a gigantic IPO. And you know, I've been telling you to beware of this oversupply problem for months now. Apple and NVIDIA are readily available for sale, and they're too juicy for some of these sellers to pass up, even as a lot of the money raised by ****** eX or Anthropic or OpenAI will probably end up buying NVIDIA equipment. Meanwhile, Apple's spending next to nothing on AI because they have a deal with Alphabet, and it's a great deal. The same deal that makes Google your default search engine now extends to Gemini.
