As markets anxiously await the outcome of the current FOMC meeting, Treasury yields notched new 19-year highs in trading Tuesday. The closely watched 10-year surpassed 5.0% Tuesday morning in a high not seen since July 2007. Even the 30-year Treasury yield rose sharply, hitting 5.4%, its highest since June 2007.
In addition to worries over persistent, rising core inflation (one of the Fed's preferred inflation measurements), skyrocketing oil prices and shortages create further pressure on Treasuries. Currently, the rolling one-month correlation between the 10-year Treasury yield and front-month WTI (West Texas Intermediate) crude sits at 0.96 per BMO Capital Markets ****** ysis.
Bond yields and oil prices have moved in tandem for much of this year as investors position for the longer-term inflationary impact of higher oil prices. And with major oil execs sounding the alarm on global supply cache shortages and strategic reserves depletion that help to temporarily soften spiking oil prices for consumers, these pricing pressures are likely to continue in the near-term. Saudi Arabia announced the closure of its East-West pipeline that bypassed the Strait of Hormuz after it came under attack late last week, and cancelled some shipments to Europe, reported Reuters.
"Normally, the relationship isn't as clean as it is now, but the geopolitical drivers behind the price of oil and global inflation are so prominent that the normally modest correlation has become much tighter," Steve Sosnick, Chief Strategist, Interactive Brokers told CNBC. "As long as oil prices remain firm and continue to drift higher, this will add pressure to interest rates."
As macro uncertainty continues and inflation persists, bonds and oil/energy will be categories to keep a weather eye towards and could see renewed ETF investor attention. Currently, investors are seizing the opportunity in longer-term bonds, with $9.7 billion flowing into the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT) in the last three months though the fund is only up $3.4 billion net YTD according to FactSet data. It will be a category likely to see action in the wake of the FOMC rate decision. As bond yields climb, prices fall as they move inverse to each other, and should yields climb higher, investors may choose to scoop up longer duration bonds at depreciated prices for future gains. However, an exodus is more likely until the path of rate hikes becomes more certain.

Taylor Swift has only been a wife for two months, but she already has to make a huge decision between her husband, Travis Kelce, and her career.
The "I Knew It, I Knew You" singer was nominated for the 78th Emmy Awards, which will be held tonight. The nominations were for her Disney+ show, "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The Final Show," which was based on her record-breaking Eras Tour. The film was nominated for outstanding variety special (pre-recorded), as well as directing, picture editing, sound mixing, and technical direction and camera work.

Travis Kelce & Taylor Swift's Controversial Dog Name Finally Confirmed
Swift has only been nominated for an Emmy once before, back in 2015, when she won outstanding creative achievement in interactive media for "AMEX Unstaged: Taylor Swift Experience." It makes sense that she may want to attend the awards ceremony; however, tonight is also a big deal for her husband, a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. It's his first game of the season and a home game, as the Chiefs go up against the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium.

On August 6, Peloton Interactive (NASDAQ:PTON) reported results for its fiscal fourth quarter and full year ended June 30, and the headline number is one the company has chased for years: a full year of positive net income. Total revenue for fiscal 2026 came in at $2.446 billion, and quarterly revenue of $608 million ticked up $1 million from a year earlier. The bigger story sits beneath the top line, in a business that finally converted cost cuts into cash while its subscriber base kept shrinking.
Fiscal 2026 marked the first time in Peloton's history that the company posted positive net income and operating income for a full year, with GAAP net income landing at $63 million. Adjusted EBITDA rose 16% year over year to $468 million, even after absorbing a $23.8 million nonrecurring legal accrual tied to patent litigation in the fourth quarter. Free cash flow climbed to $378 million, up $54 million, and management used that cash to cut net debt by 80% to just $93 million from $459 million a year earlier. CEO Peter Stern credited the turnaround to an improved revenue trajectory paired with cost restructuring, and the company said it exceeded its own target of more than $100 million in run-rate savings by the end of the fiscal year.
Growth is showing up outside the core bike and treadmill business too. The Commercial Business Unit grew revenue by double digits for the year, Peloton expanded its digital footprint through a partnership with Spotify, and it closed the acquisition of Skōp to push further into connected Pilates. Microstores beat their internal sales goals as an efficient in-person retail channel, and Peloton plans to double that store fleet in fiscal 2027. New training programs also drove engagement, with the Pace Your Race Marathon Training Program and a Live Spring Cross-Training Plan generating more than 850,000 completed workouts in the fourth quarter alone.
The profitability story cannot hide what is happening to the customer base. Ending Paid Connected Fitness Subscriptions fell 8.8% year over year to 2.553 million, and monthly churn rose to 2.2% in the fourth quarter from 1.8% a year earlier. Hardware sales are choppy too. Connected Fitness Products revenue dropped 14% year over year in the quarter to $171 million, and gross margin on that hardware segment swung to 13.4% from 17.3% a year ago before recovering some ground quarter over quarter. Peloton's own guidance signals the subscriber slide is not over.

On August 6, PENN Entertainment (NASDAQ:PENN) reported second-quarter results that flipped from a year-ago loss into a profit. Net income came in at $32.6 million, compared with a loss of $18.3 million in the same quarter of 2025. Revenue rose to $1.86 billion from $1.77 billion, and Adjusted EBITDA climbed to $312.6 million from $236.1 million. Diluted earnings per share landed at $0.24, versus a loss per share of $0.12 a year earlier. For a company whose digital business has weighed on results for years, that combination stands out.
The Retail segment, which covers PENN's casino properties across the Northeast, South, West and Midwest, generated $1.5 billion in revenue and $517.2 million in Segment Adjusted EBITDAR, a margin of 34.4%. Nine properties posted their best second quarter ever for both revenue and Adjusted EBITDAR, a sign the strength wasn't confined to one or two markets. June brought two new additions to the portfolio: a hotel tower at Hollywood Columbus and the new Hollywood Casino Aurora, both of which the company said are already drawing strong visitation.
The balance sheet also moved in the right direction. Total liquidity stood at $1.9 billion as of June 30, including $887.2 million in cash. Traditional net debt fell to $1,927.5 million from $2,217.5 million at the end of 2025, pulling traditional net leverage down to 2.9 times from 4.5 times over that span. Capital expenditures dropped to $97.5 million in the quarter from $159.4 million a year earlier. On May 15, PENN repaid the remaining $106.7 million balance of its 2.75% convertible notes, wiping out roughly 4.6 million potentially dilutive shares in the process.
The Interactive segment still lost money, an Adjusted EBITDA loss of $9.5 million, though that's a sharp improvement from the $62.0 million loss posted in the second quarter of 2025. Revenue for the segment reached $349.4 million, but $185.5 million of that figure came from a tax gross-up rather than actual wagering activity, a distinction that matters when sizing up the segment's real growth. PENN also leaned on refinancing to manage its debt load rather than paying it down outright: on April 16, it extended its $1.0 billion revolving credit facility and $446.9 million term loan A to 2031, and on May 28, it repriced and extended its term loan B facility to 2033.
Total traditional debt still sat at $2,814.7 million at quarter's end. Other expenses jumped to $43.0 million for the first six months of 2026 from just $2.2 million a year earlier, driven by transaction costs, severance tied to a corporate reorganization, and settlement costs connected to the company's cooperation agreement with HG Vora Capital Management. Cash rent payments to REIT landlords also remained a heavy recurring cost, $247.1 million for the quarter alone.

On August 14, 2026, Reuters reported that Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) disclosed that its stake in ******* e Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) was worth about $94 billion as of June 30, 2026, more than 100 times its original $900 million investment from 2015. It is making Alphabet by far ******* eX's largest single institutional shareholder following the company's June initial public offering.
Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL)'s ******* eX stake is now one of the most lucrative early-stage bets in tech history. A $900 million check from 2015 is worth roughly $94 billion, a gain that dwarfs Alphabet's next-largest disclosed rival holder, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, whose 154.1 million shares were worth $26.3 billion at the same date. That scale validates Alphabet's willingness to make patient, outsized bets outside its core search business, a track record that could matter the next time Alphabet weighs a similarly bold bet.
Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX)'s trading action suggests institutional demand is holding up despite the pullback. The stock got "a fresh jolt of buying" when fears about its first lockup expiry proved unfounded, Interactive Brokers strategist Steve Sosnick told Reuters. It remains one of the most actively traded names among the firm's customers. That kind of resilience right after a lockup, often a moment when early holders dump shares, signals ******* eX's shareholder base isn't rushing for the exits.
SpaceX's ownership base extends well beyond Alphabet, which reduces reliance on any single backer's continued conviction. Reuters' filing review found Fidelity, Saudi Arabia's PIF, Hancock Prospecting, Brookfield, and other major institutions all disclosing sizable stakes. That breadth shows professional investors broadly, not just Alphabet, are underwriting ******* eX's valuation.
Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL)'s headline number is already stale and shrinking. The stake would be worth about $77.9 billion at ******* eX's August 13 price, Reuters reported, roughly $16 billion below the June 30 figure used in the disclosure, since regulatory filings run on a 45-day lag. Now that ******* eX is public, Alphabet's stake must be marked to market. It means ******* eX's own stock swings could show up as real volatility in Alphabet's reported earnings going forward, a new risk that did not exist while the investment sat private.

On Tuesday, Lego posted a record first-half of 41.9 billion Danish kroner, or roughly $6.5 billion, in revenue — up 21% from the same period in 2025. In constant currency terms, revenue grew 26%.
The company said operating profit climbed 22% to reach 10.9 billion Danish kroner, equivalent to around $1.7 billion. Net profit climbed 32% to 8.6 billion Danish kroner. Consumer sales grew 22%, driven by demand across the product range. The company said it outpaced the global toy market and gained market share.
CEO Niels B. Christiansen said the results reflected broad appeal across the portfolio. "Our portfolio of products offers something for everyone, and culturally relevant brand experiences continue to drive demand across the globe," Christiansen said in a statement.
In the first half of the year, Lego introduced 332 new sets. Bestselling themes included Speed Champions, Botanicals, Technic, Icons and Star Wars. The company also introduced its LEGO SMART Play platform, which brings sensor-based interactive features to brick sets, and debuted a partnership with Pokémon. Sporting partnerships tied to Formula 1, the FIFA World Cup 2026 and K-pop property KPop Demon Hunters also contributed to consumer demand.
Christiansen told CNBC that new partnerships draw in consumers who had not previously found their interests represented in the Lego brand. "We've also seen that we retain consumers really, really well, and we're selling more to those we have," he said.

I bought Duolingo (NASDAQ: DUOL) stock shortly after it fell to its 52-week low of $90.03 in April, which marked a staggering 83% decline from last year's record high of $540.68. It has since recovered to around $146.84 as of the market close on Monday, Aug. 24, and while I am very bullish on its prospects from here, Wall Street isn't convinced.
The 27 **** ysts covering the stock tracked by The Wall Street Journal have put an average price target of $127.07 on it, which suggests the stock could decline by around 13% over the next 12 months. Duolingo operates the world's largest digital language education platform, and Wall Street is concerned about management's plan to focus on user growth at the expense of monetization over the next couple of years, which could hurt the company's financial performance.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
However, if the strategy pays off, Duolingo's business could be in the strongest position in its history sometime around 2028. Here's why I plan to stick around to reap the potential rewards.
Duolingo designed a highly interactive mobile app that places fun language lessons at the fingertips of anybody with a smartphone. It had 58.7 million daily active users at the conclusion of the second quarter, a 23% increase from the year-ago period. Surprisingly, the company spends very little money on marketing, but it has an enormous social media following thanks to its quirky content, which generates roughly 1 billion impressions per quarter.

Baron Capital, an investment management company, released its Q2 2026 investor letter for the "Baron Focused Growth Fund". A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. In the second quarter, the Baron Focused Growth Fund achieved a 13.26% gain, still trailing the Russell 2500 Growth Index's 24.02% return. The underperformance was driven by ongoing concerns about AI's impact on portfolio businesses and underexposure to AI infrastructure. The IPO of ****** eX provided a boost, but overall, the Fund's companies are generating robust revenue growth and strengthening margins through enhanced client engagement and product offerings. Many stocks remain historically undervalued, and companies are beginning accelerated share repurchases, bolstering investor confidence. The Fund is perceived as compelling, benefiting from favorable market conditions and strong balance sheets, while inflation and interest rates are expected to remain stable. The Fund has outperformed its Benchmark over the past 3, 5, and 10 years, showing significant excess returns with lower market risk, attributed to a research-driven investment approach. The Fund maintains a commitment to long-term investing in growth-oriented businesses, utilizing a balanced portfolio to mitigate risk and potentially enhance returns. Please review the Fund's top five holdings to gain insights into their key selections for 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Baron Focused Growth Fund highlighted Interactive Brokers Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:IBKR). Interactive Brokers Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:IBKR), an automated electronic broker that provides trading, clearing, and custody services, contributed 1.12% to the Fund's performance this quarter. On August 19, 2026, Interactive Brokers Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:IBKR) closed at $90.54 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $154.26 billion. Interactive Brokers Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:IBKR) posted a one‑month return of -1.33%, while its shares gained 44.93% over the past 52 weeks.
Baron Focused Growth Fund stated the following regarding Interactive Brokers Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:IBKR) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Global electronic brokerage firm Interactive Brokers Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:IBKR) contributed to performance as the company continued to compound growth at a rare pace for its scale. Client accounts increased 34% year over year to 5.2 million, customer equity grew 40%, and margin loan balances rose 67%. Trading activity remained robust, with June daily average revenue trades increasing 53% year over year. Operating on a highly automated, low-cost platform, Interactive Brokers benefits from substantial operating leverage as volume grows, supporting industry-leading pretax margins. New opportunities, including an expanded prediction markets offering and the favorable modernization of day-trading margin rules, further extend the company's growth runway. We retain conviction in the stock, viewing Interactive Brokers as a structural share gainer with a large global ad

Duolingo (DUOL) just made another move to strengthen what keeps its users coming back. The company recently acquired Animade, a London-based animation and motion design studio known for character animation and playful, interactive design. The deal folds Animade into Duolingo's growing Design Studio. On its own, a small animation acquisition might not seem like much. But it fits neatly with how Duolingo believes it continues to grow. The company's whole model runs on engagement. Its cast of characters, streaks, and animations are what make lessons feel like a game rather than a chore. Buying a studio built around exactly that kind of work feeds directly into the product experience that keeps users hooked on Duolingo.
The purchase comes barely a week after Duolingo reported earnings, and the deal is in line with what management focused on in its earnings call transcript. Management linked the 23% year-over-year (YoY) growth in daily active users to product improvements. CEO Luis von Ahn reinforced the point, saying the results back the company's strategy to improve the product and prioritize user growth. Current-user retention also hit an all-time high, with von Ahn noting that a better product is both bringing learners back and keeping them there.

The pilot, now live, features DPP data for three denim fabrics sourced from Bhaskar Savitt Industries in India.
The pilot is currently operating with three products, namely Renewed Eco, Earthbound Eco, and Bluecanopy Eco, with each displaying interactive DPP widgets on their product pages.
According to World Collective, these widgets enable stakeholders to access detailed information on fabric composition, sustainability credentials, and supplier details, according to statements from the partners.
World Collective co-founder and CEO Jeanine Ballone said: "The bottleneck in supply chain transparency has never been data availability, it's standardisation and scalable distribution. Currently, suppliers are asked to share the same information separately by dozens of brands.
"Our pilot shows that when suppliers invest in structuring their data once, in a standardised format, that information becomes infinitely more valuable. It's not just efficient; it's a competitive advantage. Suppliers with comprehensive DPP data can demonstrate their practices and capabilities directly to the market."

American actress and star of Heroes and Nashville, Hayden Panettiere has died at 36-no cause of death has been made available at this time.
Known for her TV roles as Claire Bennet on the series Heroes and Juliette Barnes on Nashville, and played Kirby Reed in the Scream franchise-Hayden Panettiere has died at the age of 36 on Sunday, August 16, 2026. ABC News was the first to report on the news, with which her family's representative provided a statement. Panettiere died in South Carolina, and the investigation into her death is still "ongoing"-according to her representative. Panettiere's father asked for privacy "as our family takes time to process this unimaginable loss."
"It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden," her father, Alan Lee "Skip" Panettiere, said in a statement to ABC News on Sunday. "She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her-and to the millions who watched her onscreen." While many know Hayden Panettiere for her roles in Heroes and Nashville, she was also remembered in other films: A Bug's Life, Remember the ****** ans, I Love You, Beth Cooper, Raising Helen, Ice Princess, Scream 4, and Scream 6.
In the video game world, Hayden Panettiere is widely known to voice Kairi in Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, and Birth by Sleep. She also voiced Xion in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. This is especially tragic, as Kingdom Hearts IV news was just announced at D23 2026. One of the most surprising VA roles for Panettiere in a video game was Supermassive Games' Until Dawn, where she voiced and had her likeness used for the character Samantha "Sam" Giddings. Her performance enhance and push the interactive drama, survival-horror genre across the video games industry.
Panettiere has been quite honest about her struggles from childhood stardom, going into adulthood. She released a memoir this past May called This Is Me: A Reckoning. In the memoir, she shared "a rare and intimate glimpse into her life behind closed doors, opening up about postpartum depression, addiction and recovery, trauma, domestic abuse, and loss," according to a synopsis for her book. In recent interviews and in the memoir, she spoke on her difficulties following her role on Nashville.

Saudi Arabia's AI champion HUMAIN has signed its first sports sponsorship, partnering with Al Nassr, the Riyadh soccer club where superstar Cristiano Ronaldo plays, as it looks to integrate its AI offerings into the team.
The agreement will see HUMAIN's logo on Al Nassr's jerseys and new training center. HUMAIN also plans to deploy its sports technology unit and its interactive entertainment platform at the club.
HUMAIN aims to use the sponsorship deal to "go beyond the traditional sponsorship model," chief executive Tariq Amin said. "Together, we'll look at how solutions such as HUMAIN Sport and HUMAIN Create can help shape the next generation of fan engagement, from more personalized digital experiences to new forms of AI-powered content.
HUMAIN declined to comment on the financial details of the deal.
The sponsorship is also expected to provide a financial boost for Al Nassr. The club — which, like HUMAIN, is owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund — is reported to have more than $200 million in debt, complicating efforts to sign new players this summer.
