BERLIN (AP) — Germany's federal prosecutor's office said Monday it had filed charges against a German-Ukrainian woman suspected of acting on behalf of Russian intelligence.
The woman, who was only identified as Ilona W. in line with German privacy rules, is accused of having been in contact with a full-time intelligence officer at the Russian Embassy in Berlin at least since Oct. 2023, the prosecutor's statement said.
The defendant ran a marketing agency in Berlin and was also the chairwoman of a lobbying group. As a result, she had an extensive network in military and political circles, prosecutors said.
Over the course of several years, the woman provided the intelligence officer at the Russian embassy with numerous tips about high-profile events and ensured that he could attend them — sometimes under a false name. This was intended to enable him to build his own network for intelligence purposes, the statement said.
To identify contacts and potential targets, she also attended such events herself. Furthermore, the defendant attempted to recruit individuals from the German Ministry of Defense and the defense industry for her own purposes, prosecutors alleged.

(NewsNation) — A new study found that a rare but serious brain condition has been identified in a small number of people taking popular weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro and Zepbound.
Wernicke encephalopathy is a rare neurological disorder caused by a severe deficiency of vitamin B1, also known as thiamine.
GLP-1 prescriptions for kids up more than 30,000% since 2019
Researchers identified 15 cases reported in 2023 and 2024 among people taking GLP-1 medications containing semaglutide, found in Ozempic and Wegovy, or tirzepatide, found in Mounjaro and Zepbound.
Vitamin B1 is essential for proper nerve function. Without enough of it, patients can develop confusion, problems with balance and coordination, and abnormal eye movements.

A teenage girl has been arrested on charges including murder after Chicago police said she and several other people pushed a man off a moving transit train.
According to the Chicago Police Department, officers arrested a 15-year-old girl in connection to the Sept. 7 killing and confirmed that as of Sept. 14, two other suspects remained at large.
In a statement to USA TODAY, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Kyle T. Bickham.
Bickham, 29, died from multiple injuries due to a train striking a person, Meaghan Johnson, a spokesperson for the office, said. The medical examiner ruled Bickham's death a homicide.
Police said detectives arrested the 15-year-old girl on Sept. 11 after, according to a news release, she was identified as one of the suspects who allegedly "used force" to push Bickham from a moving CTA train.

Europe's AI winners spent Monday discovering how quickly momentum can work in reverse, as investors dumped the semiconductor companies most exposed to the infrastructure boom behind increasingly powerful models.
ASML lost more than 5% while French semiconductor-materials specialist Soitec fell roughly 13%, showing that the same AI exposure that had recently justified higher forecasts and valuations can become painful when investors start questioning the pace of future spending.
The sell-off followed calls from some of the most prominent figures in artificial intelligence for a more cautious pace of frontier-model development, with concerns focused on the risks created as systems become more autonomous and capable.
That was enough to trigger a global unwind in the companies most closely ****** ociated with AI infrastructure. In Europe, ASML fell about 5.2%, ASM International dropped 8.7%, Infineon lost 7.6% and Soitec was the worst performer in the Stoxx 600 with a decline of roughly 12.6%.

September 14, 2010: Security workers reportedly stop Apple CEO Steve Jobs at **** an's Kansai International Airport. The reason? Jobs supposedly tried to bring ninja throwing stars onto his private plane while heading home from vacation. The "Steve Jobs ninja stars" story quickly becomes one of the most bizarre Apple stories ever.
The company, however, quickly spoils the internet's fun. Cupertino issues a statement describing the reports as "pure fiction" (although Apple acknowledges that Jobs visited **** an over the summer).
Few Steve Jobs stories sound more perfectly tailored to his larger-than-life persona than the tale of him being stopped at a **** anese airport with ninja throwing stars in his luggage. The problem: Apple said it never happened. Still, the story endured — perhaps because a notoriously intense, famously unconventional CEO carrying ninja weapons just feels like the kind of thing people want to believe.
Both Bloomberg and **** anese tabloid magazine Spa! covered the story prominently. Authorities stopped Jobs during a security scan at Kansai International Airport, the reports said, after detecting the ninja weapons in his carry-on luggage.
The stories cited unidentified airport officials and sources within **** an's transportation ministry. An airport spokesperson confirmed that the incident took place, but stopped short of identifying the individual involved.

The Cooper Companies, Inc. (NASDAQ:COO) cut its fiscal 2026 profit and revenue forecasts after weaker-than-expected demand for contact lenses weighed on its CooperVision business. The company now expects adjusted earnings of $4.51–$4.55 per share, down from its previous forecast of $4.58–$4.66, while revenue guidance was reduced to $4.23–$4.25 billion from $4.29–$4.32 billion. Third-quarter revenue came in at $1.07 billion, below Wall Street's $1.10 billion estimate, although adjusted EPS of $1.15 beat expectations.
The weakness was concentrated in CooperVision, where revenue fell to $717 million. Cooper said a reduction in U.S. channel inventory hurt results and is expected to continue affecting the fourth quarter. At the same time, the company completed its strategic review and decided to retain CooperSurgical rather than sell the business.
The biggest bullish argument is that some of the current weakness may be temporary rather than a fundamental deterioration in the contact lens market. The Cooper Companies, Inc. (NASDAQ:COO) specifically pointed to U.S. channel inventory reductions, meaning part of the sales pressure reflects distributors and customers working through existing stock rather than consumers permanently abandoning contact lenses. If inventories normalize, CooperVision could see a recovery in sales growth.
Cooper also continues to have a strong position in the global contact lens market. The company is investing in new products, expanding CooperVision's sales and marketing organization and improving inventory and logistics operations. Its strategic review also identified opportunities to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.
There are encouraging signs beneath the weak headline numbers. Adjusted third-quarter EPS still increased 4% year over year to $1.15, while free cash flow jumped 66% to $273 million. The Cooper Companies, Inc. (NASDAQ:COO) also increased its share-repurchase authorization from $2 billion to $3 billion, giving the company another way to support per-share earnings if the stock remains depressed.

Hub Group anticipates receiving a delisting notification from Nasdaq following delays in submitting its financial reports, which stemmed from an accounting error identified earlier this year. The company missed a Monday deadline to comply with Nasdaq's financial reporting requirements. It will ask for a hearing to keep its stock listing intact and plans to seek a further extension of the filing requirements.
The company said receipt of the letter doesn't mean shares will immediately stop trading, and that the hearing request will automatically stay a delisting for 15 calendar days. It will also ask for shares not to be delisted during the hearing process, which can take approximately 30 to 45 days to commence following the request.
"While there can be no ***** urances, the Company expects that the Company's Class A common stock will continue to trade on the Nasdaq Global Select Market during the hearing process," a Monday news release stated. "In addition, the Company expects to present to the Nasdaq Hearings Panel a compelling plan to regain full compliance with Nasdaq's continued listing requirements and to secure sufficient time to execute such plan."
Hub Group (NASDAQ: HUBG) announced in February that it had identified a $77-million understatement in purchased transportation expenses during the first three quarters of 2025, and that it was delaying fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 financial reporting. It said in May that "prematurely or incorrectly recognized" transactions were also discovered during 2023 and 2024, and that those periods, along with the first three quarters of 2025, would need to be restated.
It plans to complete the restatement process and file results for the outstanding periods during the fourth quarter. Shares of HUBG were off 6.2% in early trading on Monday compared to the S&P 500, which was down 0.6%.

Amal Clooney's opening-night look at the Venice Film Festival combined custom Tom Ford, hundreds of thousands of dollars in Cartier jewelry and the kind of polished beauty expected from a major red carpet. One part of the finished look was considerably easier to copy.
For the Sept. 2 opening ceremony, hairstylist and makeup artist Dimitris Giannetos used Charlotte Tilbury products on Clooney, including the brand's Hot Lips 2 lipstick in Dancefloor Princess. A new PEOPLE breakdown lists the pink-nude lipstick at $39 alongside products for her complexion, eyes and cheeks ranging from $28 to $52.
Clooney paired the makeup with a custom black Tom Ford gown by Haider Ackermann and Cartier jewelry worth approximately $375,000. She was in Venice with husband George Clooney, who received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement during the festival's opening ceremony.
Giannetos kept the beauty considerably softer than the architecture of the dress. He described the overall effect as "soft and ethereal," pairing warm skin and defined eyes with a muted lip and long brunette waves that he had shifted into a richer "blurred brown" shade for fall.
Vogue Italia identified Clooney's gown as a custom Tom Ford design in black silk taffeta. The column silhouette was shaped by narrow sculptural panels and irregular razor-sharp pleats, while sheer black georgette panels ran along the sides.

WASHINGTON, Sept 9 (Reuters) - Three U.S. lawmakers have called on the American government to blacklist a set of Indian IT firms over what they describe as "more than fifteen years of targeted espionage against U.S. citizens, businesses, and the lawyers representing them."
In a letter issued Wednesday, Democratic Senators Ron Wyden and Sheldon Whitehouse, along with Republican Representative Pat Harrigan, asked the Commerce Department to add BellTroX, CyberRoot, and Sunkissed Organic Farms Pvt. Ltd. (formerly known as "Appin Technology Pvt. Ltd.") and its subsidiaries, to the Commerce Department's Entity List. Such a designation would cut them off from U.S. software, cloud infrastructure, and cybersecurity tools.
Sunkissed representatives, CyberRoot and the Commerce Department did not respond to requests for comment. BellTroX could not be reached for comment.
All three companies have been described in media coverage and in reports published by major tech firms as being fronts for hack-for-hire activities.
In 2022, Reuters named CyberRoot and BellTroX as key players in the cybermercenary industry, saying they were frequently tapped by Western lawyers and private investigators to spy on one another during legal and business disputes. A 2023 Reuters report identified Appin as a pioneer in the field, saying the company grew from an educational startup to a hack-for-hire powerhouse that stole secrets from executives, politicians, military officials and wealthy elites around the globe.

Zhihu Inc. (NYSE:ZH) disclosed on September 6 that a wholly owned subsidiary had signed a conditional RMB1.5 billion cash commitment to Tianjin Lisi Xingshen Equity Investment Partnership. The agreement, dated September 4, requires shareholder approval, with payments funded internally through capital calls.
Zhihu Inc. (NYSE:ZH) expects to hold no more than 30% of the fund and will have no role in daily management or individual investment decisions. A specialist fund also supplies investment research, deal sourcing and portfolio oversight that would require substantial internal resources to replicate. For shareholders, the potential benefit combines investment returns with commercial opportunities for the core content platform. Any cooperation would still require separate **** sment and agreement.
There is an operating business to build around. Second-quarter paid content and intellectual-property operations revenue increased to RMB425.9 million from RMB408.2 million. Zhihu Inc. It's Week 1 and we already have a little bias from my brother... give me Tampa to beat the Bengals!!

Management attributes the sequential improvement in comparable sales to enhanced digital conversion and the successful scaling of private brand franchises like THERMACHILL.
The company is navigating a structural shift in customer behavior driven by GLP-1 medication adoption, which has led to temporary pauses in apparel purchasing during weight loss journeys.
Performance was significantly bolstered by a $4.6 million IEEPA tariff refund, which masked a 70 basis point decline in underlying merchandise margins caused by higher markdowns and shipping surcharges.
Strategic focus has shifted toward 'Fit Authority' through the FITMAP initiative, which has scanned 150,000 customers and resulted in higher average order values and lower return rates.

Performance was driven by the compounding power of the identity security platform and rapid adoption of SaaS, which accounted for 97% of net new ARR in Q2.
Management attributes growth to the strategic elevation of identity governance to CISO and Board-level priorities, unlocking larger enterprise budget opportunities.
The acquisition of Entro Security accelerated the product roadmap by expanding discovery capabilities to over 1,200 non-human identity types, providing critical lineage context.
Strategic positioning focuses on a unified control plane, arguing that monitoring alone is insufficient and that proactive governance must link autonomous agents to accountable humans.

There is a moment in every wild party where somebody suggests a new thing that will make the night 10 times more fun for 45 minutes and excruciatingly worse for the days that will follow. Defiance ETFs has decided that we've reached that point in the ETF party and just filed its suggestion with the Securities and Exchange Commission… Sixteen times over.
Defiance wants to launch 16 new ETFs, all built on the same idea and all named for it: the Defiance 2X Hourly Reset ETF, one each for NVDA, TSLA, PLTR, GOOG, META, MSFT, AMD, MU, TSM, MRVL and six more. Paperwork went in through Tidal Trust V with the clock set to run 75 days, so they go live around November 4 unless somebody stops them.
Each fund promises double whatever the stock does, and then delivers on that promise six separate times a day. Every roughly hour-long window starts fresh, with the leverage reset to 2x from wherever the stock happens to be sitting. The filing says outright that the promise applies to nothing else. Not to a day, not to a month, not to a year. Six windows, and after each one closes, whatever happened in it is permanent.
Your losses don't get a fresh start when the leverage does. A stock that whipsaws its way to nowhere by 4 p.m. can leave the fund substantially poorer, and every additional reset is another chance for that to happen.

Management attributes the 25% revenue decline primarily to a technical 'algorithm dislocation' with its largest advertising partner, causing an audience drift that sharply increased customer acquisition costs (CPA) for IL MAKIAGE.
The company is prioritizing technical remediation over immediate growth for IL MAKIAGE, shifting resources toward intensive testing to retrain the ad algorithm rather than executing its planned product pipeline.
SpoiledChild is demonstrating operational resilience, on track for $350 million in 2026 revenue by maintaining strong unit economics and 12-month net revenue repeat rates exceeding 100% despite broader platform headwinds.
The launch of METHODIQ signals a strategic pivot toward the 'beauty and medicine' convergence, leveraging computer vision and ODDITY Labs' patented molecules to capture higher-intent medical-grade customers.

Total software revenue grew 21% year-over-year, significantly outstripping total revenue growth as the company executes a deliberate shift toward higher-quality, scalable revenue streams.
Management attributes strong performance to a healthy demand environment where governments are prioritizing national security, border security, and public safety through enhanced intelligence capabilities.
The platform's competitive advantage is driven by 'sovereign AI,' allowing agencies to maintain full control over data and infrastructure while utilizing AI that is explainable rather than a 'black box.'
Domain expertise is cited as the primary differentiator against general-purpose AI models, as intelligence work focuses on rare and obscure data rather than common cases.

Management attributed the 7.3% revenue growth to outperforming the broader pet category by 2x to 3x, despite a consumer backdrop that has stabilized but not yet recovered.
Performance was bolstered by triple-digit revenue growth in Chewy Vet Care and triple-digit unit growth in the fresh and frozen portfolio, demonstrating successful diversification beyond core consumables.
Autoship customer sales reached 84.6% of total net sales, which management views as a critical foundation for revenue predictability and durable market share gains.

The property slated to become the headquarters of Warriors star Stephen Curry's off-court business collective, Thirty Ink, has been sold, scrapping plans for the buzzy new office in San Francisco.
The company was set to relocate its headquarters from the SoMa district to the Dogpatch in the city's evolving Central Waterfront, after Curry purchased the property in 2024. The original half-century-old building at the site would've been replaced with a five-story, 24,691-square-foot structure.
But Curry sold the two-story building to Dane Reinsurance Inc. on Aug. 31, according to documents from the San Francisco **** sor-Recorder office. Dane Reinsurance is a corporation linked to Corgi, an AI startup with an all-night cafe, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The property sold for $11 million, according to the Chronicle, a profit for Curry, given the original purchase price of $8.5 million. (The Chronicle and SFGATE are both owned by Hearst but have separate newsrooms.)
Erika Lee, a spokesperson for Corgi, told SFGATE "that's our building" by email Thursday and provided a link to an ominous video as Corgi's "public 'statement'" as of Thursday afternoon. Lee said the company will share more at a later time. The video, posted Tuesday morning on X and captioned, "Our side of the story with Steph Curry," features several news headlines about the sale and unidentified female narrator dressed in black who says, "We're building something bigger and better than anyone could ever imagine."
Thirty Ink did not respond to SFGATE's request for comment; however, according to the San Francisco Business Times, the plan for the Dogpatch headquarters was scrapped in April 2025 after a union dispute.
