LOYAL — The Loyal School District announced Wednesday, Sept. 2 that due to a self-reported eligibility issue, the Loyal/Greenwood co-op football team will forfeit its 41-7 win over Neillsville/Granton from this past Friday and receive a one-year probation period.
The Marshfield-area school districts said they became aware of the issue following Friday's game, promptly addressed it and self-reported the matter to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic ****** ociation.
The WIAA then reviewed the situation and imposed the forfeiture and probation.
The districts did not disclose the nature of the eligibility issue or identify the player involved and described the mishap as "an honest mistake" and said they take responsibility for it.

The long-awaited results of the NBA's investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers' alleged salary cap circumvention practices were finally released on Wednesday, Sept. 2, and the fallout is just beginning.
Among the punishments handed out, the Clippers must forfeit five first-round draft picks and pay a $30 million fine. Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers' superstar at the heart of the scandal, has been fined $700,000. Additionally, Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and president of business operations Gillian Zucker have been suspended by the league for one year. Lawrence Frank, the team's president of basketball operations, has been suspended for six months.
The official investigation report from the law firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz explicitly lays out why the organization is facing the brunt of the penalties. Throughout the 36-page document, investigators state the three individuals most responsible for the Clippers' rule-breaking are Ballmer, Zucker and Frank, and call out the organization for obfuscating the investigation's efforts.
The report also notes investigators "continue to receive information relevant to the subjects discussed in this report" and will supplement their findings as appropriate. Wachtell Lipton said it conducted 73 interviews of 60 people and reviewed 200,000 pages of documents.

One of San Francisco's highest-ranked schools will forfeit three of its varsity baseball games amid reports of racist taunting that allegedly occurred at a game last spring.
An investigation published Friday by the Academic Athletic **** ociation and CIF San Francisco City Section, the governing organizations of the school's teams, determined that on May 15, Lowell's varsity baseball team behaved in an "unsportsmanlike" manner while watching the championship junior varsity game versus Lincoln High School. Athletics officials said the team violated several of the **** ociation's bylaws, including its conduct and hazing policies.
The team is ordered to forfeit its games against three rivals in the 2026-2027 season: Lincoln High School, Galileo Academy and Washington High School. Officials have not set a date for the games yet, but they were chosen "based on the standings last season and the impact it will have on standings in the 2026-2027 season," the letter read.
Officials did not directly name the alleged racist incident or other allegations, but in a statement to SFGATE, school district officials said anyone who has witnessed or experienced "racialized harm" is urged to report it.
"We want to emphasize that there is no place for racism, discrimination, or racialized harm in the Lowell community or anywhere in SFUSD," the district said.

Lowell High School's championship varsity baseball team will be forced to forfeit three future games against city rivals while its entire coaching staff has been removed, district officials announced Monday while releasing the results of investigations into a racially charged incident last spring.
"The school will find an interim coach for this season and conduct a search for a permanent coach for next season," officials said.
School administrators advised Lowell baseball parents and players of the decisions in a virtual meeting scheduled for early evening.
"We want to emphasize that there is no place for racism, discrimination, or racialized harm in the Lowell community or anywhere in SFUSD," district officials said in a statement obtained by the Chronicle prior to the meeting. "We encourage anyone who has experienced or witnessed racialized harm that has gone unaddressed to report it to school officials so that concerns can be appropriately addressed."
While the officials did not release specific information about the investigation, sources inside the Lowell community told the Chronicle in May that it appeared to be connected to alleged race-based taunting by Lowell's varsity players during a junior varsity game against Lincoln High at which the varsity coaches were present.

Britain's Arthur Fery has reached his first ATP Tour final after opponent James Duckworth retired because of injury at the Winston-Salem Open.
The 24-year-old was leading 6-4 2-1 in the semi-final when his Australian opponent, who called for a medical timeout after the first set, forfeited the match.
Fery is the first Briton to reach the final of the ATP 250 event and his progress continues after his surprise run to the Wimbledon semi-finals in July.
He has also reached a career high of 33 in the world and overtaken Cameron Norrie to become British number one.

Jed York's weekend arrest wasn't the first time San Francisco 49ers ownership has found itself on the wrong side of the law – though, ironically, those past legal missteps are largely why York finds himself in such a prominent position now.
York, 46, who pleaded no contest Monday, Aug. 24, to two misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools in Columbiana County, Ohio, after a charge of "engaging in prostitution" was reduced, was, until recently, the NFL's youngest principal owner. That track largely became available to him starting in 2000, when his uncle, Pro Football Hall of Famer Eddie DeBartolo Jr., relinquished control of the team to his sister Denise DeBartolo York (Jed York's mother) and brother-in-law John York (Jed York's father).
Prior to that, DeBartolo was widely perceived as an owner whom stars throughout the league wanted to play for given his demand for championship football – the 49ers won five Super Bowls between the 1981 and 1994 seasons, none since – but also his willingness to spare no expense while caring for the members of his roster. (The Niners would eventually be hit with nearly $1 million in fines and forfeited a fifth-round draft pick in 2001 plus a third-rounder in 2002 after the NFL found them guilty of circumventing the salary cap, which came into existence in 1994, during a 1999 investigation.)
But DeBartolo's legal issues away from football ultimately drove him from the league. He pleaded guilty to one felony charge of failing to report an alleged extortion attempt in 1998 amid his attempt to obtain a riverboat gambling license in Louisiana. Former state governor Edwin Edwards allegedly attempted to extract $400,000 from DeBartolo amid his bid for the license. The NFL fined DeBartolo $1 million and suspended him for the 1999 season due to his involvement with Edwards, who was imprisoned on racketeering charges in 2002.
As for DeBartolo, who entered the Hall of Fame in 2016 and remains close to his former players – he presented former Niners coach Bill Walsh plus team and NFL legends Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Fred Dean and Charles Haley as they went into Canton – he never returned to the team as its controlling owner following the suspension.

The San Francisco 49ers are looking to get back to the top of the NFC after having injuries completely devastate their chances at ***** le contention over the last couple of seasons. Unfortunately, the franchise is now dealing with a significant off-the-field distraction.
According to WKBN, Niners owner John "Jed" York was arrested in East Palestine, Ohio, over the weekend and was found guilty of two misdemeanor charges.
York reportedly "pleaded no contest Monday morning to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools" after being arrested on Sunday. He posted a $5,000 bond.
The police report filed the time and location of the arrest as 9: 35 a.m. at Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community off State Route 170.
Court records indicate that York was sentenced to two days in the Columbiana County Jail, to be served concurrently, with credit for a day served, and was ordered to pay $1150 in fines. A phone that was seized from the businessman was ordered to be returned, and $160 seized from him has been forfeited to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.

That's what Green Bay Southwest football coach BJ Hill told his players after their thrilling 33-13 win over Sheboygan South on Aug. 21.
You'll have to forgive Hill for thinking this was the Trojans' first victory in seven years. It's difficult to blame anybody in the program for feeling it's been that long with all the losses that have piled up in recent seasons.
Although Southwest was awarded a forfeit victory over Appleton West in 2024, it won for the first time on the field during the regular season since beating Green Bay Preble on Sept. 9, 2022.
It also was the first time Southwest scored 30 or more points since putting up 35 against the Hornets in that game four years ago.

Little League International's disqualification of a Tulsa team in the Southwest Region was upheld by a Texas judge on Tuesday, prohibiting the team from playing in Tuesday's championship game for a berth in the Little League Baseball World Series.
Little League Baseball on Monday determined that a player was ineligible and removed Tulsa National from the region, deeming its previous game a forfeit. Later Monday, parents of players on the team filed, and were granted, a temporary restraining order from the 414th District Court in McLennan County, Texas, allowing Tulsa to play for the ***** le against West Texas on Tuesday night.
But Little League Baseball then asked the court to vacate the order, which the 414th District Court did Tuesday afternoon, not long before the scheduled first pitch in Waco, Texas.
"We appreciate the Court's timely and considered decision to vacate the Temporary Restraining Order," Little League Baseball said in a statement, "allowing enforcement of the Tournament Committee's decision to remove Tulsa National Little League from the Southwest Region Tournament and declare its previous game a forfeit.
"The decision upholds our commitment to a fair and equitable experience for all children based on our Official Rules, Regulations, and Operating Policies," the organization's statement added. "We empathize with the children of Tulsa National Little League and the likely disappointment this decision has caused. We recognize how memorable the Little League experience is for all children and the critical role that parents and adult volunteers are entrusted with to ensure that every child is cared for, treated fairly, and afforded a safe and positive experience."

Wayne Newton Post 346 received a forfeit baseball victory Wednesday morning in the American Legion Great Lakes Regional and will play for the first time at 4 p.m. Thursday in a winners' bracket game.
Now 35-5, Post 346 will play the winner of Wednesday's first-round game between Washington (Mo.) and Owensboro (Ky.). Post 346 is 4-0 against those teams, going 3-0 against Washington and beating Owensboro in the championship game of the John Hayes Invitational.
"But all of them have been really close games," coach Jason Fields cautioned.
Coach Fields has another situation to deal with too. Injuries and college commitments have cost him four players for the rest of the tournament, leaving him with 13 players (10 of whom have pitched this summer).
Terre Haute was expecting to play Valparaiso Post 94, the team that beat it 1-0 in the state championship last week, but a protest was filed against Valparaiso when the eight coaches convened Tuesday night.

Tulsa National Little League has been disqualified from the Little League Softball Southwest Region Tournament, Little League International officials confirmed.
The Little League International Tournament Committee determined that the adult volunteers and parents did not provide "sufficient documentation to verify that all players were eligible to participate in the International Tournament based on either their school enrollment or bona fide habitation within the league's official boundaries," a statement released on Tuesday, July 21, said.
As a result, the committee removed the team from the Southwest Region Tournament and declared Tulsa National's previous game a forfeit. The Southwest Region Tournament will conclude with a one-game championship between Texas West (Helotes Little League) and Louisiana (Eastbank Little League) at 4:30 p.m. on July 21 in Waco, Texas.
The league requires all participating athletes to either reside within the league's boundaries through bona fide habitation or attend a school located within those boundaries. According to the statement, the tournament committee works closely with local leagues to verify eligibility documentation and to review any challenges or protests brought to their attention throughout the tournament.
Both finalist teams, in addition to Texas Easy Industrial, filed complaints against Tulsa National regarding eligibility rules.

The Supreme Court agreed Monday to hear an appeal from an Alaskan bush pilot whose plane was seized by authorities after they discovered it was bound for a remote, dry village with beer on board.
The appeal from the 82-year-old pilot, Kenneth Jouppi, could have national implications if the 6-3 conservative court limits the ability of state and local governments to rely on ******* et forfeiture. Jouppi claims that the taking of his $95,000 Cessna for what amounted to a six-pack of beer violated the 8th Amendment's bar on excessive fines.
The Supreme Court is likely to hear oral arguments in the case later this year or early next — and hand down a decision by next summer.
"The Excessive Fines Clause of the Constitution was built for cases like this," said Sam Gedge, a senior attorney at the Institute for Justice, which is representing the pilot. "As government agencies increasingly exploit fines and forfeitures to pad their budgets, it's vital that the Supreme Court make clear that the Excessive Fines Clause is a meaningful check on government overreach."

BOSTON, July 7 (Reuters) - The founder and chief executive of an AI startup secretly pleaded guilty last year to participating in a vast scheme in which attorneys ‌at major law firms tipped traders about mergers their employers were advising on.
Court records ‌unsealed on Monday show that Arya Bolurfrushan, a former Goldman Sachs banker who founded Abu Dhabi-based AppliedAI, pleaded guilty in June 2025 after striking a deal with federal prosecutors in Boston who were working to build cases against dozens of other people accused of participating in the long-running insider trading scheme.
Those individuals include Nicolo Nourafchan, who had worked at the law firms Sidley Austin, Latham & Watkins and Goodwin Procter before prosecutors in May unveiled ‌charges against him and 29 other ⁠people accused of engaging in a scheme to profit from confidential information about mergers underway.
Bolurfrushan pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit securities fraud in a plea agreement ⁠where prosecutors agreed to recommend that he be sentenced to two years in prison and forfeit $954,496 he derived from the scheme.

Day one includes the first four rounds, while day 2 on Sunday will cover rounds 5-20. That’s an upgrade over last season, as the event isn’t unnecessarily split into three days. Day 2 will also stream on MLB.com and the apps.
The Blue Jays will have a fairly quiet day one. Their first pick, which would normally be 29th overall as the World Series losers, will be **** ped back 10 spots to #39 because they tried to hard to win spent over the second luxury tax threshold last season.
They also forfeited their second round pick for signing Dylan Cease after he turned down the Padres’ Qualifying offer. He’s been more than worth it, posting what’s shaping up to be arguably his best statistical season and making a strong case to be in the Cy Young mix, but given the state of the rest of the team they’ll miss the opportunity to strengthen the farm.

Merab Dvalishvili headlines an RAF event in his native Georgia and he’s bringing an old friend with him.
Saturday’s RAF Georgia main event sees former bantamweight champions Dvalishvili and Henry Cejudo compete against each other for the first time since Dvalishvili beat Cejudo at UFC 298 in February 2024. Their rematch takes place on the RAF mats, with Dvalishvili aiming to score a second win over the Olympic wrestling gold medalist.
2016 Olympic champion Kyle Snyder faces a stiff test in the co-main event as he defends his RAF light heavyweight **** le against longtime Abdulrashid Sadulaev, the man who denied Snyder a second gold when he defeated him in the 97-kg finals of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Snyder and Sadulaev have faced off on multiple occasions, with Sadulaev holding a 3-2 series advantage (including a medical forfeit in 2023 in what was to be their fifth matchup).

On Monday, former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold cleared waivers, as expected. The Lions’ 2024 first-round pick was arrested in June and faces eight felony charges from a February incident that includes kidnapping and armed robbery allegations.
Last week, Arnold posted a $1 million bond, and he is now released under the condition that he not contact any co-defendants or witnesses in his case, forfeits his passport, and strictly stays at home and at work functions. Prosecutors are seeking that Arnold wear an ankle bracelet now that he is unemployed. That hearing is scheduled for Friday.
After clearing waivers, Arnold is a free agent who can sign with any team he pleases, but it’s unclear how likely that is. According to his attorney, three teams have already reached out to Arnold. However, it’s possible he ends up on the Commissioner’s Exempt List, which would prohibit him from practicing or playing with any NFL team. Would any team be willing to take on that risk and the distraction of Arnold’s ongoing court case? We shall see.
As for the Lions, they have yet to make any corresponding move to replace Arnold’s spot on the roster. Detroit has yet to make any sort of public statement on the Arnold situation, other than a boilerplate PR response shortly after his arrest.

Saturday qualifying at Chicagoland Speedway wasn't the end of NASCAR's workday.
Following pre-race inspection, NASCAR penalized the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet of Kyle Larson and the No. 71 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet driven by Michael McDowell after both teams failed inspection multiple times.
While both teams lost key personnel for the remainder of the weekend, the consequences were far more severe for McDowell, whose qualifying session never even began.
McDowell's No. 71 Chevrolet failed inspection three times before finally passing on its fourth attempt.
Because of the repeated failures, NASCAR ruled that McDowell would not be allowed to make a qualifying lap. Instead, he'll start Sunday's Cup Series race from 38th, forfeit pit stall selection and serve a pass-through penalty under green after the race begins.
