The Blue Ridge Mountains will serve as a backdrop for U.S. Presidents Cup players Justin Thomas, Jacob Bridgeman and Jackson Koivun, who will be tuning up their games ahead of Medinah after getting the nod from captain Brandt Snedeker earlier in the month.
Also in the field are Billy Horschel and Lucas Glover, players No. 100 and No. 101 in the FedExCup points with less than a dozen events left to play this year. Those who sit inside the top 100 secure Tour cards for 2027, while players ranked 101st through 125th earn conditional status.

Big Data became Nielsen's standard measurement formula on Sept. 1, 2025, after last year's PGA Tour season concluded.
In 2024, the PGA Tour's season-long average for weekend coverage on linear networks was 1.9 million viewers using panel-only measurements, which was standard at the time; that figure is 2.3 million when retroactively applying Big Data.
This season, no PGA Tour player won more than three times (Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick, Chris Gotterup). Scheffler dominated the PGA Tour the previous two seasons with six wins in 2025 and seven in 2024, including three majors (but none this year). Scheffler, the season-long FedExCup champion, did have an additional five runner-up finishes this year.

With five birdies on his back nine and four on the front, Rory McIlroy carved up East Lake Golf Club with his putter throughout Saturday's third round to post a thrilling 7-under 63.
A pair of par-3 bogeys at No. 2 and No. 11 limited McIlroy from tying — and perhaps breaking — the low score of the tournament. It was still a showcase for the three-time FedExCup winner who put together his best round of the week — and beat his previous best mark of the 2026 playoffs, a 6-under 64 during the opening round of last week's BMW Championship.
McIlroy and Round 3 playing partner Si Woo Kim were the fourth pairing off the tee in Atlanta on Moving Day, and now have a long wait as the 11 other duos behind them are still on the course.
His birdie putt on the par-4 17th brought him into a five-way tie with Chris Gotterup, Viktor Hovland, Cameron Young and Ryan Gerard. It also gave him a stretch of three consecutive made birdie putts.
McIlroy went on to par his final hole after his tee shot disappeared off the fairway. He scrambled beautifully and gave himself at a fourth straight circle but would up just right of the cup on his birdie attempt.

The pressure is mounting at Bellerive Golf Course. For the top 50 players in the FedExCup standings, the BMW Championship represents the final hurdle before the season finale. One mistake can end a season. One great week can change everything. For players sitting on the edge of the top 30, the need for a massive scoring surge is intense. There is no room for error when a trip to East Lake is on the line. Some pros are even changing their equipment to find that extra edge. They want a shot at the big trophy in Atlanta.
Sepp Straka faces a difficult climb to reach the Tour Championship. The Austrian golfer has reached this prestigious event in each of the last four seasons. His best result during this stretch was a T7 finish back in 2022. However, his current standing tells a different story. According to GolfWRX, Straka is currently sitting at 39th in the FedExCup rankings. He needs at least a solo 11th place finish at Bellerive to qualify for the next stage. To make this happen, he is changing his setup. He is moving away from the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Max. He previously used an 8.5-degree head set at 9.1 degrees. This change comes after a tough year off the tee. Straka ranks 99th in strokes gained from the tee this season. It is his first time losing ground in this category with the Ai Smoke driver in his bag. Now, he is picking up the Srixon ZXi RKT driver. This move is significant for Srixon because Straka rarely alters his gear. The ZXi RKT driver is a relatively new release. Srixon staffer Ryan Fox used it to win the Open Championship recently. Since Brooks Koepka claimed the 2023 PGA Championship using a ZX5 LS Mk II, no Srixon driver had secured a major victory until that win. Straka's new setup includes a 9.0-degree head with an actual loft of 9.5 degrees. He is also using a Fujikura Ventus Blue+ 6x shaft that is tipped one inch. The club length is 45 1/8 inches with a D-4 swing weight. He is also using a Golf Pride Tour Velvet Mid-size upside down grip. The new driver aims to help his ball flight. "It's allowing him to be more aggressive without overspinning it, and he doesn't feel like he's lost anything around the green compared to Pro V1," GolfWRX reported.
The numbers show why this move is necessary. You can't climb from 39th to the top 30 without driving the ball well. If you rank 99th in strokes gained, you are essentially giving away shots. Straka needs to find yards and stability. The ZXi RKT offers a different profile than the Callaway head he just dropped. By adjusting the loft and the shaft, he is trying to stop the bleeding. If he can turn that 99th rank into a positive number, the 11th place finish becomes much more realistic. It is a calculated risk. He is betting his season on a new piece of technology. If the ball stays in play, he stays in the hunt. If it fails, his season ends at Bellerame.

ST. LOUIS — Four birdies on the back nine of his opening round drastically improved Justin Thomas' week in St. Louis, where the 2019 BMW Champion posted a 3-under 67 to sit three shots off Gary Woodland's clubhouse lead.
The week started abnormally for Thomas, who copped to practicing harder than usual on Monday after coming off a T-47 finish at TPC Southwind last week and entering Bellerive No. 44 in FedExCup scoring.
Only problem for JT? The extra work backfired — at least in the short term.
"Just couldn't get anything going and then — more than anything — I left there in a way worse place mentally than I feel like I should have or would have liked or hoped," said Thomas of his time in Memphis.
"It was a day that I likely would take off, but I just wanted to come out and feel like I kind of had some positivity or something to build on," he added about the work put in earlier this week. "It took a lot longer than I planned or wanted it to. Really it was, honestly, a pretty terrible day, to be perfectly honest."

Scottie Scheffler is the winner of the 2026 FedEx St. Jude Championship. He carded a score of -17 to notch the victory at the first event of the FedExCup playoffs on Sunday, Aug. 16 at TPC Southwind in Memphis.
Fans sprinted over to the green on the last hole to watch the world No. 1's final shot. He barely missed the rim and then tapped the ball in for par. Scheffler's wife and two children were standing in the shade cheering him on and after he finished the hole, they ran around the crowd to give him a hug.
This is only Scheffler's second win this season after topping the leaderboard at the American Express back in January.
"It's always challenging, I think, playing with one of my best friends, both trying to win," Scheffler, who played with Sam Burns on Sunday, said on the CBS broadcast after the St. Jude win. "He's had his fair share of close calls this year as well. Going into today, I just wanted to try and do my best, just try and execute."

It was a bad week in Memphis for Rory McIlroy.
McIlroy struggled his way through TPC Southwind and ended up finishing alone in 66th at 8-over for the week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. While he is safely into the BMW Championship next week — McIlroy entered the tournament at No. 12 in the FedExCup standings — it was McIlroy's worst finish of the season by far.
"Obviously [I] didn't come in here with a ton of reps," McIlroy said on Sunday. "Almost felt like the more the week went on, the more I felt lost with my golf swing a little bit."
McIlroy entered the PGA Tour's postseason after a long break. He hadn't competed since his T40 finish at the British Open in mid-July. And that showed.
McIlroy opened the tournament with a 4-over 74, and failed to break par in all four rounds. While he was already well out of contention at this point, McIlroy just looked out of it to start play on Sunday. He opened the final round with a double bogey on the first, and then went 5-over through the first six holes.
