NEW DELHI: India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant made a rather unusual public appeal in the early hours of Saturday, directly requesting Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to help him acquire land in the state so he can shift his base from Delhi and build his first home in his native state.

Pant, who is currently in Sri Lanka with the Indian team for the two-match Test series, took to social media platform X to make the request, tagging Dhami in a lengthy post. The 28-year-old said he had been trying to find suitable land in Uttarakhand for the past three years but had struggled to find a property that could meet his requirements.

More importantly, Pant made it clear that he wanted to return to his roots and contribute to the state after years of representing India on the international stage.

"pushkardhami ***** o sir how's you ??? It's a long time for me especially being local from Uttrakhand . I have been trying to buy land to shift my base from Delhi to Uttrakhand and I couldn't find anything facilitating and big to live here I love my Uttrakhand. My humble request to us is please help me in land acquisition cause nowadays it had become nitemare with clarity and even other land is dew which was I supposedly get when I was promoting the state before keeping everything in side I wanna move back to my native place to help and built around Uttrakhand and I want to shif back to my Pahadi people please look into this matter it's been 3 years didn't get any land awaiting your answer pushkardhami sir," he wrote.

Pant followed it up by clarifying that he was not asking for land as a free gift, but wanted to purchase it from the government at the applicable rates.

"A gift would be lovey for representation out states at the highest level internationally stages but if you allow me I wanna buy it fromGovernment and on there rates at least I can have my first house built in my own state and our state please be helpful. Seriously didn't know how to do it," he further wrote.

The posts quickly went viral, with Pant's unusual request drawing significant attention on social media.
Pant was born in Roorkee in Uttarakhand's Haridwar district and began his cricketing journey there before moving to Delhi to pursue the sport professionally. He eventually established himself as one of India's premier wicketkeeper-batters across formats.

Although Pant continues to represent Delhi in domestic cricket, he has repeatedly maintained a strong connection with Uttarakhand. His latest posts underline his desire to eventually make the state his home and contribute to its development.

His appeal also comes just days after Pant emerged as Uttarakhand's highest individual taxpayer for the 2025-26 financial year, having reportedly paid Rs 23.84 crore in income tax.

PHILADELPHIA — The atmosphere inside the Francis J. Myers Recreation Center on Thursday afternoon was nothing short of jubilant. Former Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown, who was traded to the rival Philadelphia 76ers in early July, selected the community venue as the site of his introductory press conference. Aug 5 (Reuters) - The Dallas and New York Federal Reserve banks plan to launch a pilot survey into the estimated $1.3 trillion private ‌credit market after the end of the third quarter, the New ‌York Fed said in a statement on Wednesday.
Private credit's expansion began as a means of funding private equity groups' buyouts after the 2008 financial crisis saw bank financing dry up. It then swelled into a prime source of debt financing for riskier businesses, drawing in capital from income-hungry investors.
Though still tiny compared with the traditional ‌banking industry, the sector ⁠has been dogged by concerns over the quality of lending standards and a lack of transparency.
The survey would segment the market ⁠into three sections based on borrower size: an upper middle market with more than $100 million in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization; a middle market between $30 million and $100 million EBITDA; and a lower middle market with less than $30 million EBITDA, ‌the statement said.
Findings of the survey are expected to be published in the first quarter of 2027, it said.

Former India captain Ajinkya Rahane has picked Sachin Tendulkar as the greatest Indian cricketer of all time, shortly after bringing the curtain down on his playing career.

Rahane, who recently announced his retirement from all forms of cricket during an episode of Stick to Cricket, was asked to name India's greatest-ever cricketer. While acknowledging that the choice was far from straightforward, the former batter eventually settled on Tendulkar.

"I think it's very hard to take one name but… probably Sachin Tendulkar. I think all the eras," Rahane said.

Tendulkar enjoyed a remarkable international career that stretched across 24 years, representing India from November 15, 1989, to November 16, 2013. During that period, he featured in 664 international matches, including 200 Tests, 463 ODIs and one T20I.

The batting icon scored 15,921 runs in Tests, 18,426 in ODIs and 10 in T20Is, finishing as the highest run-scorer in the history of both Test and ODI cricket. He also remains the only player to have appeared in 200 Test matches and holds the record for the most ODI appearances.

Tendulkar was a central figure in India's triumphant 2011 ICC Men's ODI World Cup campaign, adding the coveted trophy to an already glittering career.

As captain, he led India in 25 Tests, registering four wins, nine defeats and 12 draws. In ODIs, Tendulkar captained the side in 73 matches, winning 23, losing 43, with one tie and six no-results.

Rahane made his international debut in a T20I against England at Manchester on August 31, 2011, and went on to represent India across all three formats between 2011 and 2023.

FIFA issued a statement following a crisis meeting in Morocco on Wednesday, admitting that "mistakes were made" with the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal, a much-maligned and now-scrapped plan to sell minority stakes in the World Cup and other tournaments to private investors. That said, the statement also relayed that the senior leadership attending that meeting in Rabat "reaffirmed their full support" for FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who has been under fire because of the attempted scheme, which, notably, could have earned him a significant sum of money.
And, so, despite Infantino's apology, UEFA reportedly isn't budging on the head-turning threat it issued after news broke of the investment ploy. UEFA — European soccer's governing body, responsible for five of the past six men's World Cups — is still poised to boycott all FIFA competitions, including the men's and women's World Cups.
The women's World Cup will take place in Brazil next summer. Eleven of the 32 slots in the tournament are reserved for UEFA.
"UEFA's ******* ociations were very clear about the conditions attached to the non-participation in FIFA competitions," UEFA said in a statement on Thursday to ESPN and The Athletic.

LINCOLN — The Logan County Fair Night of Thunder at Lincoln Speedway will feature four divisions of dirt track racing on Friday, Aug. 7.
The divisions include Taco Bell DIRTcar Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman, Crown Vics, and DIRTcar Hornets. According to a community announcement, the event will take place during the annual fair race.
Pits will open at 4 p.m., followed by stands opening at 5 p.m. Local pill draw ends at 5:50 p.m., hotlaps begin at 6 p.m., and racing is set to start at 7 p.m., according to the announcement.
The headline division, Taco Bell DIRTcar Modifieds, features Brian Lynn of Mason City, who leads the points with one feature win and three top-five finishes in six races. He holds a 24-point lead over his son, Austin Lynn, who has four top-five finishes in five starts.
Brandon Roberts of Ashland is third in the standings with two feature wins, while Springfield's Brian Diveley is fourth after three top-five finishes. Taylorville's Carter Sinkhorn rounds out the top five in Modified points. Other drivers in the top 10 include Ray Bollinger, Marshall Call, Shawn Vaughn, Alan Crowder, and Steven Brooks.

Aug. 6 (UPI) -- UEFA is holding on to its threat of a World Cup boycott, despite apologies from FIFA and Gianni Infantino for plans, now withdrawn, to sell stakes in the tournament.
The Union of European Football ***** ociations features 55 national ***** ociation members, including champion Spain, No. 3 France and No. 4 England. The governing body for European soccer announced July 30 that it rejected FIFA's proposal to sell shares in a company to run the World Cup to private investors.
The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean ***** ociation Football and the ‌Asian Football Confederation also publicly opposed the proposal, which was subject to support of the majority of FIFA's member ***** ociations

The K-pop singer, rapper and dancer makes her brand debut with two shoes drawn from opposite ends of a shared lineage: the Chuck 70 X, a refined update of the most recognizable silhouette in the company's catalog, as well as the Run Star Crush, a platform-heavy variation of the classic. The competition formally known as the Subway Women's League Cup kicks-off next month with a new identity and a northern and southern 'Swiss-style' league format. Participating clubs will now contest a minimum of six league phase matches, a significant increase from previous years, while Barclays Women's Super League teams participating in European competition will not feature in the Subway Players Cup at any point.

Pakistan climbed one place in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points table after beating the West Indies by eight wickets in the second Test in Trinidad. The win helped Pakistan level the two-match series 1-1 and move above the West Indies in the standings.
