Stivers will have six games on the remainder of its 2026 football schedule.
The Tigers new schedule was finalized Thursday, Sept. 11 by Dayton Public Schools.
Stivers will restart its season against Thurgood Marshall on Sept. 17. Stivers kept road games against Shroder, Norwood and Vanlue from its original slate, and also received a commitment from St. Bernard-Elmwood Place. The Tigers also rescheduled a game against Dunbar at Welcome Stadium.
DPS Superintendent Dr. David Lawrence announced Sept. 2 Stivers would attempt to finish the season one day after the district said its season would be canceled. The district originally canceled the season due to what the district described as not being able to continue "safely and responsibly" stemming from injuries and low player participation numbers. DPS officials reversed its decision after holding a meeting with parents and staff the following day.
Stivers began the 2026 season with a game on Aug. 21 against Gamble Montessori which it lost 50-6. The originally scheduled game against Dunbar the next week was canceled and a few days after the entire season was canceled which caused several teams originally on the Stivers schedule to find new games.

The Dayton Flyers will play Utah at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, in their first game at the Charleston Classic and then Northwestern at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22.
The game times and the order of the opponents were announced on Thursday, Sept. 10, as tickets went on sale. The six-team field was announced in August.
There will be three games each day at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C.
Oklahoma State will play Minnesota at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 20 in the first game of the event. Northwestern will play Virginia Tech in the second game at 3 p.m. Dayton and Utah will play the final game of the first day.
All the teams will have Nov. 21 off.

A Florida woman accused of plowing an SUV into a parked car appeared to downplay the collision before making a personal plea to officers investigating her, newly released video shows.

Ryan Preece forced his way into the 16-driver field with a win at Daytona last weekend, grabbing the final playoff spot and adding one more dramatic twist before the ***** le fight officially begins. Now the regular season is over, the field is set, and only 16 drivers have a path to the championship.
Denny Hamlin starts The Chase in the best position, carrying a 25-point lead over Ryan Blaney, while the rest of the field has plenty of ground to make up. Preece enters as the final seed and starts 100 points back, but with 10 races still ahead, there is still plenty of time for chaos, comebacks, and mistakes that can reshape the standings quickly. Darlington is the perfect place to start, with its tire wear, narrow racing groove, and unforgiving walls ready to punish anyone who gets too aggressive too early. The Chase is wide open, and Sunday night is the first real test.

With the playoff circuit heading to Darlington, things should get interesting. The South Carolina oval is also known as "The Track Too Tough to Tame", and the Cook Out Southern features a grueling 501-mile stretch that has been humbling drivers for more than 70 years.
This weekend's race serves as the first of 10 postseason competitions that will culminate in a 2026 Cup Series champion. Mainland offensive lineman Chevin Davis' suspension appeal was denied by the Florida High School Athletic ***** ociation on Sept. 2, head coach Jerrime Bell confirmed in a text message to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
Davis was ejected from the Buccaneers' opener against Carol City on Aug. 21 when Chiefs defensive tackle Michael Williams Jr. suplexed Mainland quarterback PJ Miller well after the ball had left his hands for a third-quarter incompletion. Davis came to Miller's aid and ***** ped Williams to the ground. He did so a second time when he saw Miller still down a few seconds later.
According to Bell, he was told on the field Davis was ejected for shoving Williams to the ground and standing over him. That was changed to "an open-hand slap or blow" in the official report, per Bell.
Section 30.2.1.1 of the FHSAA handbook states an ejected athlete is ineligible to compete for the remainder of that contest and a minimum of the next game. It can be appealed, as the Bucs did in Davis' case, and the FHSAA can reverse, modify or uphold the suspension.

Private equity firm Trident Management appears to be an early mover in bolting together small courier businesses onto a platform that can offer shippers greater regional density and reach as an alternative to large, legacy parcel carriers.
Trident-backed Priority Courier Experts, which serves B2B customers in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and upper Midwest, last week said it acquired Priority Dispatch Inc. and Diamond Expedited, Midwest providers of same-day courier and box-truck freight services for the healthcare and e-commerce industries, and Atlanta-based Inpax Shipping Solutions.
Priority Dispatch was founded in Cincinnati in 1973. Diamond Expedited began serving the greater Chicago area in 1995. The companies, which were bought from the same individual, also cover Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton and Toledo, Ohio; Indianapolis; Detroit and Milwaukee, with 43 employees and more than 500 independent-contractor drivers. Their combined delivery traffic is about 250,000 orders per year.
Inpax is active in seven markets across the South, including Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina and Florida. With 75 employees and more than 335 owner-operators it delivers more than 400,000 orders per year. In addition to e-commerce pickup and delivery, it offers local and regional truck brokerage and tractor trailer freight.

The Cincinnati Bengals dodged a serious disaster to start training camp when Shemar Stewart went down with a scary-looking injury.
Since, it's been nothing but good news on that injury front. Word broke that the 2025 first-round pick would not, in fact, miss the season. Even better, the rumblings suggested that Week 1 might be on the table.

Wednesday practice footage from Local 12's Yanni Tragellis revealed that Stewart had officially returned to practice for the first time since July 29.
After, Stewart himself told Laurel Pfahler of the Dayton Daily News that he thought he heard something pop at the time of injury, so he's just happy to be back out there after a hyperextension.

Ohio's representatives in the Little League World Series are getting well-deserved recognition.
Hamilton West Side Little League will be honored with a parade on Monday, Sept. 7. The parade is set to begin at 6 p.m. with a route that runs from the team's Little League facilities on Eaton Avenue to Marcum Park. There will also be a short presentation at Marcum Park once the team arrives at about 6:30 p.m.
"We're inviting Hamiltonians and WSLL fans alike to line the route or gather at the HUB, Armstead Park, the bridge, the courthouse, Rotary Park or Marcum Park," the city of Hamilton said on social media.
The full parade route runs from Eaton Avenue to Main Street, across the bridge to North Second Street, then to Dayton Street and Marcum Park. The festivities will conclude by 7 or 7:30 p.m.

NASCAR's new superspeedway package didn't completely transform the racing at Daytona, but it showed enough improvement to deserve another opportunity.
The package debuted during Saturday's ******* e Zero Sugar 400 with the rear spoiler reduced from seven inches to four and horsepower lowered from 510 to 465. From a viewer's perspective, there were encouraging signs.
The field still raced three-wide, but the cars didn't appear permanently locked into place. After approximately 10 to 15 laps, the bottom and top lanes began separating as handling became more important. Denny Hamlin noticed the same development, explaining on his podcast, Actions Detrimental with Denny Hamlin, that the field could run three-wide for roughly 10 to 15 laps before the middle lane disappeared. Denny Hamlin posted an 11th-place finish in last Saturday's ***** e Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona. However, there was confusion on the driver of the No. 11's end on why he finished where he did.
Based on the timing of when the caution came on the final lap of Saturday's NASCAR Cup Series race, Hamlin believes he scored a top-10 result. Instead, the 45-year-old was ranked 11th, while Josh Berry earned a ninth-place run.
The call to place Hamlin 11th left the Cup Series points leader puzzled after the race.
It did not matter to Hamlin where he finished at Daytona. Because the Joe Gibbs Racing star had already locked up the top seed for the Chase, he was not concerned about points.
However, Hamlin had a discussion with NASCAR following the race as he revealed on his "Actions Detrimental" podcast. Hamlin plans to have a follow-up discussion about the caution light procedure in the future to avoid future misunderstandings.

Former NFL wide receiver Damoun Patterson was arrested by the Daytona Beach Police Department in connection with several felony offenses.
According to police, Patterson was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated ***** ault with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief, and armed burglary of a dwelling.
Patterson, who spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and New England Patriots, was booked into custody on the charges.
Authorities have not released additional details about the allegations.
The case remains in the judicial process. As with all criminal cases, Patterson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Gentlemen from Connecticut, start your engines. The Nutmeg State just doubled its chances in "The Chase."
Berlin native Ryan Preece, with an overtime victory Saturday night at Daytona in the ***** e Zero Sugar 400, the final regular-season race in the NASCAR Cup Series, secured the 16th and final berth in the postseason.
Preece will join Middletown native and former Cup champion Joey Logano in the 16-driver playoff series, which opens Sunday at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina.
On Saturday night at Daytona, Preece triumphed at a track at which he knew mostly trauma. He twice flipped cars at NASCAR's iconic home track, last year during the Daytona 500 and in 2023 at the ***** e Zero Sugar 400.
This time around, Preece dodged mayhem on the final lap when leader Zane Smith got ***** ped and spun into other cars. Preece safely navigated his No. 60 car to the front and took the checkered flag under caution.

Jimmie Johnson shared a glimpse of the No. 48 livery for his farewell race at the 2027 Daytona 500.
Johnson recently announced that he has teamed up with Lowe's, Ally, and Carvana to sponsor his sendoff race. Lowe's was his primary sponsor through his seven championships and 83 victories; Ally covered his final seasons in 2019 and 2020, while Carvana sponsored his NASCAR comeback as a team owner and part-time driver.
Johnson is set to run his iconic No. 48 car, loaned by Hendrick Motorsports for the special occasion. Ahead of Sunday's ***** e Zero Sugar 400 at the World Center of Racing, Johnson drove the car around on track.
"My heart is full to say the least," he wrote.
The paint scheme mirrors his No. 48 car from his 2016 championship-winning campaign, while a special thank-you sticker for Lowe's adorns the rear ***** per.

Daytona was roller coaster of a night for Shane van Gisbergen, and it ended in disappointment for the No. 97 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet.
He watched Ryan Preece, Chris Buescher, and Kyle Larson all crash in front of him early in the running, clearing the way for SVG to earn his first-ever oval stage win and secure ten points.
However, Preece pulled off a remarkable save and suffered minimal damage. Even while sliding, he crossed the line in eighth and scored three points. He added another nine in Stage 2, bringing his total to 12.
Van Gisbergen spent the final stint of the race knowing that he had a 29-point cushion, which meant that Preece would have to beat Van Gisbergen by at least 30 positions on track (as SVG would win the tiebreaker) to make the Chase ... unless he won the race.
In a situation where Preece -- who entered Saturday's race 0-248 in Cup wins -- captured the checkered flag, Van Gisbergen couldn't afford to finish any worse than 11th.

DAYTONA BEACH — As an observer, Austin Cindric enjoyed watching Ryan Preece punch his own ticket into NASCAR's Cup Series playoffs. That doesn't mean it came without a little bit of stress, and a lot of communication, before the two-lap overtime period began.
Cindric had all the information he needed as it pertained to fuel and, more importantly, how it pertained to points. He held on for a sixth-place **** e Zero Sugar 400 finish at Daytona International Speedway, good enough to secure one of the final spots into the 16-driver postseason field.
"I know it might sound weird, but it was kind of fun to watch," Cindric said of Preece's victory. "The guy drove a **** of a race, and wins because of it. That doesn't happen at these (events) super often."

Cindric is one of six playoff qualifiers without a win from the season's 26 races, along with Christopher Bell, Kyle Larson, Chris Buescher, William Byron and Bubba Wallace. The 27-year-old entered the night with a 44-point gap above the cut line, thanks to five previous top-10s and 113 stage points.

DAYTONA BEACH — It was an illusion.
For the first two and a half stages, Saturday's ****** e Zero Sugar 400 stayed calm — at least for a NASCAR Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway.
But everyone should know better. Tranquility doesn't exist at Daytona.
Ryan Preece not only claimed his first career points-paying victory but did so to absolutely steal the final spot in the 16-driver Chase.
He resided in front of Daniel Suarez when the caution flag flew for multiple crashes during the second overtime lap.

In what was the biggest race of his life, Ryan Preece not only earned his first career win at Daytona, but he clinched himself into the Chase for the first time in his career. This was not only huge for his season, but this race was personal. Considering the scary crashes Preece experienced in 2023 and 2025 at Daytona, it was fitting for it to be a happy ending this time. Yet, for what seemed like a dream scenario for RFK Racing and this #60 team, it definitely did not go to plan.
Things went array early in the race. As the field came to end stage one, Kyle Larson gave RFK's Chris Buescher a bad push. Buescher would hit the outside wall, while Kyle Larson and Ryan Preece would Tokyo drift through the grass. Preece's involvement in the incident was huge intially. Entering the race, he was one of three drivers who was fighting for the remaining two Chase positions. While this crash didn't eliminate him, it did send him from third to eighth in just a few hundred feet. This would end up costing Preece five points. In addition, his competitor Shane van Gisbergen would benefit from the incident, passing the crash to win the stage. This exchange put him another seven points behind his target.
Preece made up for that loss by clawing his way back in stage two to finish second. Throughout the race, he earned himself twelve stage points, while van Gisbergen only scored the ten. While two points isn't significant, it still is something.
The latter portion of the race was an uneventful strategic battle. With 39 laps to go, Ross Chastain led a group of Chevy's into pit road. Then, another handful of drivers countered with around twenty laps to go. These drivers would attempt to gain an advantage, but it would later be washed away. Preece and others would remain on the track, hoping for some luck.
With around ten laps to go, thing got chaotic while Preece was leading. Then with six laps to go, it snapped. Carson Hocevar made an abrupt move on Preece entering turn three, where he would lose control of his car. Hocevar would then come back onto the track, make hard contact with the outside wall, and collect Erik Jones in the process.

Daytona International Speedway had been unusually quiet Saturday night. Then, with five laps remaining, everything changed.
Carson Hocevar lost control of his No. 77 Chevrolet late in the ****** e Zero Sugar 400, slamming the outside wall before collecting Erik Jones in a violent crash that brought out just the third caution of the night.
The wreck instantly changed the complexion of NASCAR's regular-season finale after the field had spent much of the race avoiding the kind of late-race chaos that has become synonymous with Daytona.
Hocevar was racing in the pack in the closing laps when his car suddenly broke loose and shot toward the outside wall.
The No. 77 Chevrolet made heavy contact, and Jones had virtually nowhere to escape as the incident unfolded directly in front of him. Jones' No. 43 Toyota was collected in the crash and also sustained a significant impact.

Emmanuel Christian volleyball players get together for an overnight outing to create memories while occasionally missing out on some sleep in the process.
That sleepiness has not been enough to keep down the play of Macey Hudson.
Hudson is a junior volleyball player at Emmanuel Christian. In a recent match against Northeastern on Aug. 22, she had 27 kills and 25 digs in a four-set victory for the Lions.
For her efforts, Hudson was named the Dayton Daily News Athlete of the Week, presented by Orthopaedic Institute of Dayton, for Aug. 17-23, earning the honor through reader voting at DaytonDailyNews.com.
"I have had people from our school get nominated and I thought it was really cool, and to have myself get nominated for it was just really an honor," Hudson said.

Shane van Gisbergen won his first stage win on an oval of his NASCAR career.
But it didn't come without controversy.
The Trackhouse Racing driver ******* ped the back of Kyle Larson's Chevrolet as they approached the finish line to end Stage 1 of the ******* e Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona on Aug. 29. Larson then ran into the back of race leader Chris Buescher to send both Larson and Buescher into the frontstretch grass. Larson finished sixth and Buescher went from the lead to 11th and didn't get any stage points.
Ryan Preece, Buescher's teammate, was collected in the wreck by Buescher and Larson when they went across the track to the grass. Preece entered the regular-season finale 17th in points, 31 points behind van Gisbergen for the final spot in the Chase.
Ty Gibbs finished second and Joey Logano finished third.
