Adam Carolla is the latest conservative voice to crash out over Anne Hathaway's 2018 Human Rights Campaign speech about white, straight men.
Back in 2018, Hathaway gave a speech while accepting National Ally for Equality Award from the LGBTQ+ civil rights organization the Human Rights Campaign. In it, she called out straight white men in a way that is rankling conservatives and MAGA-minded people eight years later now that she stars in one of the biggest movies of the year, Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey."
"It is important to acknowledge with the exception of being a cisgender male, everything about how I was born has put me at the current center of a damaging and widely accepted myth," Hathaway said at the time. "That myth is that gayness orbits around straightness, transgender orbits around cisgender, and that all races orbit around whiteness. This myth is wrong. But this myth is too real for too many … It is a habit, so it's ***** umed to be the way things are."
On Friday's episode of "The Adam and Dr. Drew Show," both men took umbrage with the near-decade old quote. A meltdown ensued on the show as the two tried to figure out what exactly Hathaway meant while ***** uring listeners that regardless of what she meant, she was wrong.
"It sounds like she's saying, 'I was born into this world myself as a rich, white person,'" Carolla said. "But you know what they never factor in? The ultimate privilege – bone structure. Being good-looking. Beauty. Chuck knows what I'm talking about. A lot of doors opening. Lots of doors."

SEATTLE (AP) — Less than six months removed from his first NFL ****** le, Sam Darnold briefly chuckled to himself.
Darnold was asked Thursday if he feels the narratives about him have gone by the wayside. For years, the discourse on Darnold centered around him being a bust, considering his pedigree as a former No. 3 overall pick, and a transient quarterback who hopped from team to team. Darnold's first year under center for the Seahawks, after all, marked his fifth team in eight seasons.

NFL teams and NFL players are not famously open and transparent about injury timelines, but Michael Penix Jr. was an exception today.
Per the team's 2025 starting quarterback, his recovery from his November ACL injury is progressing nicely, but it still could be a month until he's fully medically cleared. If all goes well, Penix noted, it could be a little sooner. Because the long end of that estimate would put us at August 29, that likely means the most hotly-anticipated battle of camp is all but over. So long as Tua Tagovailoa's back tightness is indeed minor, he'll be starting in Week 1.
When Penix suffered his ACL injury and had surgery, insider Ian Rapoport initially reported that it would carry a nine month recovery at minimum. Since then, both the team and Penix have avoided putting concrete timelines on his recovery, but mid-August would be around nine months and Penix now seems unlikely to be cleared by then.
Fans inserted their own timelines into the vacuum between Rapoport's initial report and the months that have come. Some very optimistic souls believed he could be cleared for minicamp, but that time came and went. Others hoped we might see Penix cleared in time for the start of training camp, a more reasonable guess but still a bit of an optimistic one.
On the first day of training camp, Penix was out there moving and throwing, but he still has not been fully medically cleared and cleared for full team work. The long and short of it is that Penix can do some work and give the coaching staff a measure of his ability, but cannot fully participate in training camp and almost certainly will not appear in preseason action. For three consecutive presidential campaigns, President Donald Trump regularly told the same lie when he spoke in the swing state of Michigan. Before he even entered politics, he claimed, he was named "Man of the Year" in the state.
The problem: CNN and other media outlets repeatedly noted that this award did not exist. But Trump revived the tale once more near the end of a falsehood-filled economic speech in Michigan on Monday — and added an additional lie claiming that an initially skeptical media had eventually discovered the award story was correct.
"I was here 25 years ago, I got Man of the Year. They — oh, by the way, the press questioned that, and then they found out it was true, actually," Trump said with a chuckle. "And I made a speech, and all I talked about was why are you letting them steal your auto industry?"
Nope. This is yet another example of the fake history that has littered various Trump addresses this month.

The Detroit Lions open their 2026 training camp on Wednesday, and on Tuesday, their veterans reported to the team's Allen Park training facility. As players rejoin the team, it's common for the team to make a few last-minute transactions in preparation for camp. Earlier in the week, we saw the Lions place three players on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, and on Tuesday, they placed Christian Mahogany on the Non-Football Injury (NFI) list, Christian Izien on the Non-Football Illness (NFI) list, and released veteran nose tackle Jay Tufele.
If you're not familiar with the difference between the lists, which list a player lands on is based on where they were injured and the type of injury. If a player was hurt while participating in an activity directly related to the NFL (games, practices, workouts, etc.), they land on the PUP list. If a player was injured in a non-NFL activity (which can include private workouts or in their personal life), they land on the NFI (injury) list. If a player is dealing with an illness (which can range from having the flu or Mononucleosis—like Mahogany had as a rookie—or even more serious illnesses), they land in the NFI (illness) category.
These lists also have some similarities as well. Like with the PUP list, placing a player on either NFI list at this stage does not require them to miss any games. They are restricted from practicing while on the injury lists, but players are also eligible to be removed from any of these lists at any time if a team believes a player is healthy enough to begin practicing. However, if a player remains on any of the lists through roster cutdowns, they will be forced to miss the first four games of the regular season.
Mahogany returns to Detroit this season expecting to work to retain his starting left guard job, so any absence will certainly hinder his ability to compete for that role. While he is out, look for either veteran Ben Bartch, second-year lineman Miles Frazier, or recently traded-for Juice Scruggs to try to seize the opportunity in front of them.
Izien joined the Lions this offseason and was working with the starting safeties in the spring as he was trying to acclimate to the Lions' scheme quickly, as he was also expected to compete for a starting role with Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph on the PUP list. While Izien misses time, Thomas Harper and Avonte Maddox, along with veteran Chuck Clark, should have great opportunities to get into the starting rotation at practice.

The extended (and oversaturated) NFL offseason is finally over, dearest readers.
This week and next will see all 32 teams report to their respective training camps. While we’re still technically about seven or so weeks away from real games being played with people keeping score, the return of camp marks the end of the offseason. We will finally have some pro football to talk about. Yes, that includes some NFL players “being in the best shape of their lives” at the most convenient and stereotypical time. And yes, that includes even discussing the proverbial quarterback competition on the surefire last-place team that won’t matter come late September.

Republican Sen. Deb Fischer (Neb.) on Wednesday objected to a request from Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) for unanimous consent to prohibit President Trump from using taxpayer money to further retrofit a luxury Boeing 747 gifted to the president from Qatar.
The GOP senator blocked Schumer's request to pass his Presidential Airlift Security Act, which would stop the Pentagon from spending more taxpayer money to modify Trump's new jet.
Schumer said Trump's decision to accept the jet to serve as the new Air Force One was another example of what he called "corruption" in the administration.
"Now he wants the taxpayers to fund his palace in the sky as well. Trump's $400 million foreign jet, the biggest gift a president has received from a foreign government ever, is anything but free. Taxpayers will have to pay hundreds of millions of dollars to outfit Trump's luxury jet with the security upgrades it needs to serve as Air Force One," Schumer said on the Senate floor.
Fischer rose to object and pointed out that that Schumer's proposal had already been considered and voted down by the Senate earlier this year.

The statement comes as part of a news release Wednesday following an incident that occurred during a WNBA game between the Phoenix Mercury and Indiana Fever on June 24, where Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas made contact with Clark’s throat while the two were diving for a loose ball. Thomas also stepped over Clark after the play.

I thoroughly enjoyed Gavin and Andrew chatting on the pod after the Foundation of Light’s fixture release breakfast and chuckled when they said that all these matches were on a Saturday at 3pm – except they’re not. They’ll be all over the place. That got me thinking about the whole fixture-setting process and its impact on football supporters, which brings me to what may become a bit of a rant. When you get older, though, and your memory is still functioning (to a degree!), these are the inevitable musings on whether things were better back in the day.
A further impetus for these considerations was the fact that I slowly developed an increasing interest in local non-league football. For a while, I could only manage the occasional visit to the Stadium of Light or an away League Cup game, so I was persuaded to go along and watch Workington AFC (Workington Reds), which slowly became a bit of a habit. Life has changed now, and I can get across to the North East more regularly again, but I still go to watch the Reds whenever I can, don’t miss many home matches, and fit in the odd away day.
My reason for talking about non-league football is simple – fixtures are set in the summer and that is that, unless, of course, there is a cup clash or bad weather. I appreciate knowing that the match will kick off at 3pm on a Saturday or 7.45pm on a Tuesday.
And that is exactly how it used to be when I first started going to professional football – Roker Park at 3pm on a Saturday or 7.30pm on a Tuesday. It was even quite a change when evening games began to kick off 15 minutes later in the 1990s! The status quo was soon to change, although it might surprise some people that attempts were made back in the 1960s to show live football with altered kick-off times. Deals were struck, broken, and fans had to make do with highlights programmes instead.

Former ESPN columnist and renowned author Chuck Klosterman gave a bold prediction for Sophie Cunningham. Klosterman thinks Cunningham would be running for vice president in 24 years. "All the signals are flashing red, the latest being POTUS's summary dismissal of the remaining Federal Election **** istance Commission members," the Democratic strategist wrote in a social media post.
The commission is a bipartisan and independent board established in 2002 to help voters participate in the election process and **** ists election officials. Republican member Christy McCormick also resigned on Thursday.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Samuel Basallo hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the eighth inning, and the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-3 in the opener of a three-game series between last-place teams Friday night.

We're still waiting for the New Orleans Saints to regroup for training camp, which means it's time to check in on the latest mock drafts and highlight some names to know in the 2027 NFL Draft class. Today's pick comes from Paul M. Banks over at Draft Wire, who has the Saints choosing Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore with the eighth overall pick. Most mock drafts have had the Saints choosing one of the best edge rushers available -- either Colin Simmons (Texas) or Dylan Stewart (South Carolina), but neither of them were still on the board when New Orleans went on the clock.
"Our first off-script pick, Saints' primary need is edge rusher, but there is no one rated high enough on the big board to go here," Banks wrote. "So we see them going best player available."
Just two other corners were taken in this way-too-early mock draft; Ellis Robinson IV (Georgia) went to the New York Giants at No. 11, while Zabien Brown (Alabama) joined the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 17. There wasn't a single edge rusher taken in the top-20 after Simmons and Stewart went top-5. Moore has been linked to the Saints before, but they'll need a top-10 pick to get him. Cornerback may not be their top priority in next year's draft but it will be a position to address. Kool-Aid McKinstry will be entering a contract year in 2027 and could walk just like Alontae Taylor and Paulson Adebo did.
Moore won a host of honors last year at Notre Dame; he was a unanimous All-American, a finalist for both the Jim Thorpe Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy, and a semifinalist for both the Chuck Bednarik Award and the Lott IMPACT Trophy. He was chiefly responsible for holding USC Trojans wide receiver Makai Lemon, the Philadelphia Eagles' first-round pick in April, to just four catches and 76 yards when their teams met. He has all the qualities teams look for between his prototypical size (listed at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds), clean play (5 penalties on 1,368 career defensive snaps) and ball skills (7 career interceptions and 18 passes defensed). If the Saints are going to be as successful this season as we hope, Moore may not be there when they pick next year.

Jul. 8—Great Lakes starting pitcher Zach Root struck out 11 and did not allow a runner past first base over six scoreless innings as the Loons defeated the Dayton Dragons 4-2 on Tuesday night.
Neither team could score over the first half of the game as Dragons starting pitcher Ovis Portes worked out of trouble in each of the first four innings. The game was scoreless going to the bottom of the fifth when Portes issued a lead-off walk followed by a run-scoring double by Logan Wagner to give Great Lakes a 1-0 lead.
Portes was replaced by Beau Blanchard, who surrendered an RBI double to Emil Morales, the first man he faced, as the Loons jumped ahead 2-0. After a pair of walks, the Loons added another run on a sacrifice fly to make it a three-run inning. In the sixth, Blanchard surrendered a lead-off home run to Chuck Davalan as Great Lakes increased their lead to 4-0.
Going to the eighth inning, the Dragons had only two hits and had not advanced a runner to second base. Alfredo Alcantara ripped a lead-off double to left-center field to start that inning and with one out, Victor Acosta worked a walk. Peyton Stovall then lined a triple down the right field line as the baseball lodged beneath the Loons bullpen bench, bringing in both Alcantara and Acosta to cut the Loons lead to 4-2. Thirteen months and two days after undergoing Tommy John surgery, Dodgers reliever Evan Phillips was activated off the 60-day injured list on Monday by the Dodgers ahead of their three-game series against the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium.
Phillips had an extensive rehab ****** ignment, appearing in 12 games over 30 days with Triple-A Oklahoma City. The right-hander had a 1.80 ERA with 13 strikeouts and five walks in 10 innings for the Comets, with his last game coming last Friday, a perfect frame with two strikeouts against Sugar Land. This was essentially spring training for Phillips, who pitched on back-to-back days on June 24-25, and appeared in parts of two innings on June 28, usual items on the checklist for relief pitchers building up for their season.
The right elbow procedure for Phillips was June 4, 2025, ending a season that was already hampered at the start by a shoulder injury, limiting the right-hander to only seven games last year.

The team on Monday afternoon announced that catcher Chuckie Robinson is being designated for **** ignment, while right handed pitcher Carlos Duran is being placed on the 40-man roster.
The move comes the same day that reliever Evan Phillips is being activated from the injured list and another righty, Paul Gervase, is being optioned.
Robinson was brought up to the big leagues due to the ongoing injury recovery of starting catcher Will Smith.

WASHINGTON — Sen. Chuck Schumer called on the International Olympic Committee to expand Nordic combined in the Winter Olympics by including the women’s competition in the 2030 games.
Nordic combined is a winter sport in which athletes compete in cross-country skiing and ski jumping.
Schumer explained young women train in the North Country for a chance to represent Team USA and allowing women to participate is a matter of fairness and opportunity.
“Every year, women from across the country train at world-class facilities in upstate New York like Lake Placid’s Olympic Ski Jumping Complex and Mt. Van Hoevenberg for a chance to represent Team USA in Nordic Combined. But they are excluded from competing on the Olympic stage because there is no women’s competition,” Schumer said in a statement.
“As American women excel at the Women’s World Championship, allowing women to compete is about more than fairness. It’s about recognizing their extraordinary athletic accomplishments.
