Allen Park — When the Detroit Lions take on the Washington Commanders in Saturday's preseason game at Ford Field, expect to see a number of Detroit's starters in uniform.
Lions coach Dan Campbell wouldn't reveal a full list of those he plans to have participate Saturday — "Not everybody will play," he **** ured — but he did say, "We are going to play a significant amount of starters. That's my plan right now."
Against the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday, the Lions had 59 players suited up, with most of their expected starters and key contributors attending but not playing. Exceptions included the entire rookie class, wide receivers Isaac TeSlaa and Greg Dortch, offensive lineman Christian Mahogany and safety Chuck Clark, among others.
The Lions have traditionally not played their starters in the preseason since Campbell was hired in 2021. But when asked about playing starters this year, Campbell on July 29 said, "I would like to. But there again, this thing moves as we get through these practices. What do we look like? Who needs work? Do they need to play together? Are there players that aren't getting enough intensity in practice? ... We'll work around that stuff.
"Right now, I would like to, but we'll see how it goes."

As Jake points out in his piece this morning, we're on the cusp of potentially seeing some big changes to the Red Sox roster and everyday lineup. Roman Anthony isn't coming back to Boston to ride the bench, of course. And while this will make a lot of fans groan, I think the same can be said of Trevor Story. So as the Sox get healthy, we're about to say goodbye to some bit-part players who turned into unexpected contributors to the 2026 Red Sox
Those unexpected contributors are one of the most fun parts of baseball. We get them every year, and we almost never see them coming, which, of course, is where the fun comes in. Which bit-part player will you remember most fondly from the 2026 team? Andrew Monasterio, Anthony Seigler, Jahmai Jones, Nick Sogard, Tsung-Che Cheng Mickey Gasper, Nate Eaton, Tyron Guerrero, Eduardo Rivera, and even Jake Rogers have all had their moments, and all will be remembered to varying degrees. You could even put Jake Bennett into this category, though he's likely to be a meaningful contributor for years to come, unlike those other names.
Talk about modern-day Pedro Ciriacos and whatever else you want in this ****** e and, as always, be good to one another.

With three weeks of training camp complete and the preseason opener in the books, the New York Giants' roster picture continues to sharpen under head coach John Harbaugh. Longer practices, increased physicality, and the first live game action have provided clearer evaluations of positional battles and special-teams contributions, prompting further adjustments from earlier projections.
This updated 53-man outlook reflects those developments while maintaining Harbaugh's emphasis on versatile players, depth, and reliable contributors across the roster. Performances in the preseason loss offered additional insight into how certain players handle game situations, influencing several close calls.
The team remains early in the evaluation process, but the current snapshot captures the strongest consensus following three weeks of camp and the first exhibition contest.
Rinse and repeat. This is not going to change unless there is an injury, and Brandon Allen did very little to state his case in Saturday's loss to the Vikings.

NEW YORK, Aug 13 (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services accused dozens of hospitals and healthcare providers on Thursday of improperly billing for gender-affirming care and referred them to the Office of Inspector General and the Justice Department for investigation.
HHS released a report ***** led "Wolves in White Coats" that argued some gender-related treatments were paid for under unspecified conditions or, in some cases, based on diagnoses of early ***** rty. The report includes contributors who have been critical of gender-affirming care.
HHS said the providers billed for the therapies to treat minors aged 9 to 17, documenting an unspecified endocrine or hormone-related disorder diagnosis rather than gender dysphoria. The report alleged inaccurate diagnoses resulted in payments from both private and government-sponsored health plans.
HHS said that as gender care for minors has grown, it has become a larger revenue source for hospitals, creating financial incentives for more frequent billing. Citing conservative medical advocacy organization Do No Harm, the agency said hospitals and clinics billed nearly $120 million for the services provided to minors since 2019.

The Oklahoma Sooners are in need of a running game to make a major step in 2026 if they want to prove last season wasn't a fluke and the Sooners are a legit College Football Playoff contender.
When it comes to having a strong running game, a team needs good running backs, a good offensive line, a good tight end room and a good scheme. The Sooners feel this year's team is better in those areas than last year's team.
While the run game has been an emphasis, there has been an under-the-radar running back that is pushing to be Oklahoma's starter. Coming into the offseason, many thought the top spot would go to Tory Blaylock or Xavier Robinson. The two were the main contributors on last season's team. There had been some offseason buzz around true freshman Jonathan Hatton Jr. However, it's another name that's getting most of the first-team reps
Lloyd Avant, transfer running back, has been getting running back one reps so far," On3's J.D. PicKell said on 'The Hard Count.' "That's great. Two things I'm tracking, though. One, who else pops up in that rotation with Avant to take carries... In addition to that, what does it look like when the pads come on? Does that pecking order change at all?"
Avant arrived at Oklahoma without the same level of attention as some of the other running backs in the room. The transfer spent time at Colorado State and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, rushing for 676 yards and six touchdowns across his two seasons. His biggest reputation, however, came as a kick returner.

Long Cast Advisers, an independent registered investment adviser, released its Q2 2026 investor letter. A copy can be downloaded here. The firm reported strong earnings in the second quarter, with results improving 20%, bringing year-to-date returns to +19%. While performance trailed the Russell 2000 and iShares US MicroCap ETF, it remained well ahead of the iShares SmallCap EAFE (ex-N. Am) ETF. Since inception in 2015, ***** ulative returns stand at 343% (15% CAGR), reflecting the firm's strategy of concentrated, patient investments in small and micro‑cap companies. The firm remains cautious in this environment, emphasizing patience and endurance while avoiding margin and volatility. In addition, please check the firm's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Long Cast Advisers highlighted Pro-Dex, Inc. (NASDAQ:PDEX). Pro-Dex, Inc. (NASDAQ:PDEX) is a global medical device company that designs, develops, manufactures, and sells powered surgical instruments for medical device OEMs. On August 7, 2026, Pro-Dex, Inc. (NASDAQ:PDEX) closed at $65.56 per share. The one-month return of Pro-Dex, Inc. (NASDAQ:PDEX) was 7.88%, and its shares gained 72.87% over the past 52 weeks. Pro-Dex, Inc. (NASDAQ:PDEX) has a market capitalization of $209.32 million.
Long Cast Advisers stated the following regarding Pro-Dex, Inc. (NASDAQ:PDEX) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"In 2Q26, Pro-Dex, Inc. (NASDAQ:PDEX), PESI and MTRX were the largest contributors. The PDEX pitch offered an attempt to quantify the anticipated incremental benefits to operations if Zimmer succeeds with the mBos robot commercialization (a corrected version of the slide is below). The milestones, prices and margins are all derived from public filings and we ***** ume four effectors per system sale, as an informed estimate.
Zimmer's purchase of Monogram last year included "contingent valuation rights" (CVRs) that pay out $3.41 / share in each year from 2028 to 2030 that mBos gross revenues exceed certain hurdles. Based on these estimates, we calculated the number of systems needed to achieve those revenues, and it triangulates to a capital sale in the range of ~$1M per machine, in line with the cost of Stryker's Mako platform. Stryker sold 860 units in its first three years, so the forecast 609 units to trigger the final CVR seems achievable. And even if the timing is wrong or our estimates imprecise, as long as the direction is right - and Zimmer is putting significant resources behind the launch - once the system launches, PDEX could experience an exceptional transformation in operating cash flow that would justify a substantially higher corporate value. This is why it remains a top position."

During his Pro Bowl campaign last season, Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane maxed out with 28 touches in a Week 10 win over the Buffalo Bills. His new head coach, Jeff Hafley, said Monday on "The Rich Eisen Show" that the 24-year-old back could have 40-plus touches in games this time around.
"I just gave Achane a heads up this morning and told him he better be in good shape," a charismatic Hafley told Eisen on Monday with a smile, "because I told him there might be some games where I have to pick him up and carry him back into the locker room because he's going to be so tired.
"And I told him I don't ever want to see one of these head taps all year. He looked at me right in the eye and said, 'You'll never get that head tap from me.' I said, 'Don't worry, buddy. After you touch the ball 40, 45 times, I might have to pick you up, and I'll carry you back into the locker room.'"
This offseason, Hafley's first at the helm alongside general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan after their stay in Green Bay as Packers defensive coordinator and vice president of player personnel, respectively, the Dolphins signed Achane to a four-year extension reportedly worth up to $68 million. The deal comes with $32 million guaranteed, according to ESPN.
While Miami parted ways with a slew of contributors at the beginning of its rebuild, it re-upped its commitment to Achane. The 2023 third-round pick out of Texas A&M is coming off his best season yet — he piled up a career-high 1,838 scrimmage yards and once again logged 12 total touchdowns — and now he's set to feature in offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik's unit.

As another Georgia high school football season kicks off, championship expectations, national recruits and marquee matchups once again dominate the conversation across the Peach State. From powerhouse programs loaded with Division I talent to rising contenders looking to crash the ******* le picture, there is no shortage of storylines heading into the 2026 season.
1. Buford Wolves: Until you knock them off, it is hard not to put Buford on top. The Wolves know how to win. They expect to win. Buford lost a lot, especially at the skill positions, but new names will step in, led by quarterback DJ Hunter, they will play a tough schedule and be ready for December when that time comes.
2. Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets: Thomas County Central may have been playing the best football in Georgia when the season ended last year. Some key contributors graduated, but return many key contributors, and when all is said and done in December, it would be surprising to see the Yellow Jackets hoisting up the trophy for a third time in four years.
3. Creekside Seminoles: Maurice Dixon and Creekside had the perfect 15-0 season a year ago and broke records while doing so. Their offense scored 845 points in 15 games, so can they repeat? The Seminoles are the one to beat. They lost some key players, but 15 starters return, and it is a good mix of linemen and skill guys. The move up to 6A will be something to watch.
4. Gainesville Red Elephants: Gainesville has a new head coach in Santavious Bryant. He won a state ******* le at Grayson in his first year as the head coach there in 2023. Don't be surprised if he leads the Red Elephants to the same accomplishment this season. The Red Elephants have been knocking on the door, and they have the pieces to compete for a ******* le again in 2026.

New York Daily News | Gary Philips: Jazz Chisholm Jr. has lost himself a considerable amount of money in his pending free agency with his downright bad 2026. The Yankee second baseman has managed just a 92 wRC+ with a career high strikeout rate, and of course self-proclaimed that he'd be able to land a 50/50 season in spring training. Jazz hasn't been the only problem with the team's offense of course, but he's been a major contributor — or rather, non-contributor. If nothing else he seems to at least be aware of it, but awareness is different from adjustment.
NJ.com | Adam Zagoria: Tommy John released a very sad public farewell to the Yankee franchise and fanbase over the weekend, as the 83 year old enters hospice care with bladder cancer. Dr. Chris Ahmad, the club's head doctor, penned his own touching open letter to the man on Monday, acknowledging John's place in baseball history and remarkable determination to return to the game despite the shortest of odds.
New York Post | Ethan Spears ($): The Yankees will not have a clear path through the AL without Aaron Judge returning and hitting like we're used to seeing Aaron Judge hit. Cody Bellinger will also likely need to be back, patrolling left field and hitting cleanup. However, the emergence of both George Lombard Jr. and Spencer Jones as potential lineup-lengtheners give the club a couple more options, although relying on rookies — including one with just five games under his belt — to be reliable contributors through their first taste of MLB baseball is a risky endevor.
FanGraphs | Jay Jaffe: Gerrit Cole and Max Scherzer have been contemporaries atop the "best pitchers in baseball" list over the last decade or so, and they mirrored each other in strikeout accomplishments over the weekend. Scherzer fanned the 3,516th victim of his career on Saturday, moving into the top-10 in all of baseball history, and moments later Cole sat down the 1,000th batter as a Yankee, the fastest to do so in pinstripes, needing just 139 games. Both pitchers are closer to their enshrinement in Cooperstown than they are to having lost prospect status, but we can still mark the milestones when they come.

WASHINGTON (AP) — When George W. Bush wrote an essay this year about another president named George, he avoided mentioning the one named Donald.
So did Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. The three ex-presidents joined a roster of historians and authors in contributing to the In Pursuit project, a 250th-anniversary series that had each writer produce an essay about a president or first lady.
Though the project was explicitly designed to transcend today's politics, some of its essays nevertheless reflect anxieties that are flaring in the era of President Donald Trump over the use of power, the health of the democracy and the integrity of the presidency.
The project is being curated by Colleen Shogan, the U.S. archivist who was fired without explanation by Trump last year. She instructed contributors not to be partisan or ideological. "Everybody took those instructions and that guidance very seriously," she told The ****** ociated Press. The goal was for all Americans to "feel welcome to be able to read these lessons and essays and learn something from them."
The mission, Shogan said, "is to surface the lessons from the past 250 years of American history, so that we can learn from those lessons, from both our successes and our failures, so we can plan for the present and the future. It's what has been described as debriefing the American story."

So did Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. The three ex-presidents joined a roster of historians and authors in contributing to the In Pursuit project, a 250th-anniversary series that had each writer produce an essay about a president or first lady.

Conestoga Capital Advisors, an ****** et management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. The letter reports a positive market shift towards Small Caps, with the Russell 2000 Index achieving its best first half since 1991 and the Russell 2000 Growth Index up 25.7% in Q2, fueled by AI enthusiasm and semiconductor stocks. However, market leadership was uneven, mirroring the Tech Bubble, as high-beta stocks outperformed while high-quality companies lagged, impacting Conestoga's quality-focused strategies. Management expressed confidence in long-term outcomes, noting that speculative leadership won't last as monetary policy tightens and market breadth improves. The firm remains committed to high-quality growth businesses, expecting these to regain favor as leadership broadens. The Conestoga Small Cap Composite returned 14.32% net-of-fees in the second quarter, with 25.71% for the Russell 2000 Growth Index. Narrow Index leadership hurt the relative results, but it also hid Composite improvements. In addition, please check the Strategy's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Conestoga Capital Advisors highlighted AAON, Inc. (NASDAQ:AAON) as a material contributor. AAON, Inc. (NASDAQ:AAON) designs and manufactures high-efficiency air conditioning and heating equipment. On August 4, 2026, AAON, Inc. (NASDAQ:AAON) closed at $95.55 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $7.82 billion. AAON, Inc. (NASDAQ:AAON) posted a one-month return of -11.51%, while its shares gained 17.26% over the past 52 weeks.
Conestoga Capital Advisors stated the following regarding AAON, Inc. (NASDAQ:AAON) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"AAON, Inc. (NASDAQ:AAON) was among the portfolio's strongest contributors during the quarter following what we believe was an exceptional first-quarter earnings report. Results highlighted significant demand for the company's BASX division, which provides liquid-cooling solutions for data centers. Management raised its 2026 BASX revenue outlook to approximately $1.0 billion, up from its previous forecast of $715 million, reflecting accelerating demand from AI-driven data center investments. The company's rooftop HVAC business also demonstrated a healthy rebound despite ongoing macroeconomic uncertainty. While gross margins declined during the quarter, management intentionally prioritized growth and market share over near-term profitability. We believe this is the appropriate strategy given the robust demand environment and should strengthen AAON's competitive position over the long term."

Position battles seem to demand immediate answers every NFL training camp.
People want details as quickly as possible. Aaron Glenn sees things differently. A few practices into training camp, the New York Jets' second-year head coach has consistently emphasized a longer view.
The Jets may have something. They're becoming a stable organization, one that values preparation for the regular season over winning the daily headlines that accompany August practices.
Glenn has regularly given veteran players scheduled maintenance days. He has resisted the temptation to overwork key contributors and remained patient with young players as they learn new responsibilities.
We've settled into August, and the reviews remain positive.

A project that used to take three weeks now takes one. A report that required a full day gets done before lunch. And employees are being evaluated against that accelerated standard before anyone has agreed it is sustainable, accurate, or fair. The time savings went to the company, but the pressure went to the employee.
Here is the dynamic playing out inside nearly every organization adopting AI right now: efficiency gains from AI are not being returned to employees as breathing room. They are being immediately converted into higher output expectations. The ***** umption is simple and rarely stated out loud: if AI freed up your afternoon, that afternoon now belongs to the next ***** ignment. Workers are not getting time back. They are getting more work, on a faster clock, with the same number of hours in the day.
New research from GoTo and Workplace Intelligence makes the paradox explicit. The Pulse of Work in 2026 study, which surveyed 2,500 employees and IT decision-makers across ten countries, found that employees save more than two hours per day using AI tools. But the same study found that 60% of employees feel pressured to use AI to boost productivity, 50% say they rely on it too much, and 39% say that reliance is making them less intelligent. The productivity gain and the human performance cost are arriving simultaneously. Most organizations are only tracking one of them.
An ActivTrak's ***** ysis of 443 million hours of work activity across more than 1,100 organizations found that AI doubled time spent on email and messaging while focused deep work fell by 9%. A Harvard Business Review study published earlier this year found that after AI adoption, workers operated at a faster pace, took on a broader scope of tasks, and extended work into more hours of the day, often without being asked. The tools are generating more activity while depleting the capacity for the high-quality thinking that makes that activity valuable.
When AI compresses timelines, the most visible change is speed, and speed quickly becomes the proxy for performance because it is the most legible output of AI adoption. Gallup's research finds that 65% of employees say AI has improved their productivity, and frequent AI use among managers has doubled from 15% to 30% since 2023. But that growing adoption is producing a widening gap between who benefits and who absorbs the pressure: leaders report the strongest gains, while individual contributors remain the least likely to receive guidance on how to use AI effectively. And 54% of managers say workplace expectations have directly increased due to AI. The bar is rising and the measurement framework is not keeping pace.

For the third season in a row, the Oregon Ducks are rolling into the new season with a new leader in the tight end room. First Terrance Ferguson, then Kenyon Sadiq, and now Jamari Johnson will take the helm.
Last season, after transferring to Eugene from Louisville, Johnson saw his role slowly grow into a consistent pass-catcher for the Oregon offense. When Sadiq went down with an injury, Johnson was the one who stepped up and didn't allow the Ducks to skip a beat.
Johnson finished the season with 32 receptions for 510 yards and three touchdowns. The 6-foot-5 target has more size than his predecessor, but leading the room is another challenge he will have to take on this season. With the additions of Penn State transfer Andrew Olesh, Clemson transfer Marcus Dixon and freshman Kendre Harrison, there are plenty of talented contributors who still need to learn the playbook in fall camp.
Beyond leading the room, the best ability is availability. After watching Sadiq prepare last season, Johnson may have picked up a thing or two from the first-round pick.
"Film and treatment," Johnson told reporters on Monday. "Those are two things off the field. He's a dog all around. Off the field, (Sadiq) is as good as on the field."

Departures: Aiden Robbins (draft), Jayden Duplantier (graduation), Dariyan Pendergrass (graduation), Ashton Larson (transfer), Maddox Monsour (transfer), Will Hill (transfer)
Additions: Payton Brennan (transfer), Trevor Goldenetz (transfer), Sawyer Solitaria (transfer), Carlos Lugo (transfer), Trent Maybin (signee)
Returning: Anthony Pack Jr., Jonah Williams
SEC Freshman of the Year Anthony Pack Jr. is the returning outfield starter for Texas after a second straight season in which the Longhorns struggled to field three quality contributors. For a second straight year, Jonah Williams also dealt with injury issues, playing in eight games before undergoing season-ending shoulder injury.
Losing Williams, combined with the 2025 MLB Draft defections of transfers Jack Moroknek and Kaleb Freeman, contributed to 94 at bats for Jayden Duplantier, 15 starts for late addition Dariyan Pendergrass, who committed to Texas in December, and 14 starts for Maddox Monsour. In 96 combined at bats, Pendergrass and Monsour totaled three extra-base hits while both hitting under .200.

Ohio State's tight end room looks completely different entering 2026, but that doesn't mean the position is any weaker. In fact, there is a strong argument that it is deeper than it has been in years.
Gone are Max Klare, Will Kacmarek, and Jelani Thurman. Together, they accounted for virtually every meaningful snap at tight end over the last two seasons. Replacing that experience was never going to come from one player.
Instead, Ryan Day attacked the position by **** embling a room where every player has a defined role, and together, they may give the Buckeyes more flexibility than they've had in a long time.
The hierarchy entering fall camp appears fairly straightforward. Nate Roberts projects as the clear TE1. Mason Williams looks like the favorite for TE2. Behind them, Hunter Welcing and Bennett Christian are battling for rotational snaps, while Maxence LeBlanc and Brody Lennon continue developing as future contributors.
The names may not yet carry the same national recognition as previous Ohio State tight end rooms, but the fit of each player within Arthur Smith and Ryan Day's offense makes this group one of the more fascinating position battles on the roster.

The Los Angeles Rams have an abundance of depth at tight end, which is a good thing because one of their key players is a bit banged up. Sean McVay told reporters on Monday that Davis Allen has a quad injury and will be out for "some time." Because it's a soft tissue injury, the team isn't going to rush him back.
Allen is in his fourth season with the Rams after being a fifth-round pick in 2023 out of Clemson.
Colby Parkinson, Terrance Ferguson and Tyler Higbee are the primary contributors at tight end, with rookie Max Klare also in the mix. Klare figures to get more reps with Allen out, which will only benefit the rookie out of Ohio State.
Allen caught 24 passes for 208 yards and three touchdowns last season, playing significant snaps after the team shifted toward more 13 personnel packages.

Bam Adebayo gets honest about why he's not too worried about the Heat's lack of shooting originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo was a major move for the Miami Heat. With that move, he and Bam Adebayo form a fearsome partnership that could be the best in the league. However, it does pose a problem because they might not be as dynamic on offense as many duos.
Defensively, there should not be any problem with Adebayo and Antetokounmpo. Unfortunately, that is only half the game, so offensively, they might have some limits because they do not have the best perimeter shooting.
It is fair to have high expectations for the Heat now because they have an elite duo in the frontcourt. Pat Riley and the Heat's front office did have to send a significant package to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Giannis, so the team is lacking depth.
Trading away the likes of Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Kel'el Ware, and Kasparas Jakucionis was a big investment for Miami. It was an understandable decision, but it does hamper their offense because those players were big-time contributors for head coach Erik Spoelstra.

While the Warriors have re-signed a handful of contributors from last year's 37-win squad, Golden State has yet to bring in a new free agent. However, Warriors insider Anthony Slater recently revealed that Golden State had another offseason target in mind apart from LeBron James.
According to Slater, the Warriors "looked at" Rui Hachimura. Hachimura, a seven-year veteran between the Washington Wizards and Los Angeles Lakers, has career averages of 12.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.2 ******* ists and 0.6 steals. Hachimura's 3-point shooting has been quite impressive as well, knocking down 44.3% of attempts from beyond the arc last season. Hachimura has a career 3-point percentage of 39.4% and has shot 41% or better from long range in four of the last five seasons.
That said, Hachimura never seemed close to joining the Warriors, inking a two-year $28 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers instead.

Former New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey was one of the most talented players to ever wear Giants Blue. There's no denying that. He's also one of the most disappointing.
The 14th overall selection out of Miami in the 2002 NFL draft, Shockey was coveted by Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi, who called him a "weapon."
And he was. Shockey could do it all. He was an All-Pro as a rookie and made the Pro Bowl in four of his first five seasons with the Giants. But he was brash and vocal, and his off-field demeanor sometimes had the Giants on their heels and shaking their heads.
In 2007, the Giants were headed towards a storybook ending, one which would see them knock off the previously undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. Shockey, one of the Giants' key contributors on offense, fractured his fibula in Week 15 and was lost for the season. As per the wishes of head coach Tom Coughlin, he watched the game from the owner's box as the team he carried on his back for six seasons pulled off one of the biggest upsets in NFL history.
It did not sit well with him, and he decided to bypass all of the celebrations afterwards. Many said it was sour grapes and jealousy on his part. Little did anyone know, his Giants career was over.

The Los Angeles Rams were expected to have one of the best defensive lines in football entering this season after a solid performance in 2025. However, the Rams had many up-and-down moments that would prevent the national media from establishing the team as having a Tier 1 line.
That changed the moment they added Myles Garrett. The NFL's No. 1 defender is joining a stacked line that could rival the top units around the league for production. That's why CBS Sports' Carter Bahns believes the Rams have the best group of edge rushers in the league, ranking Los Angeles No. 1.
Citing Garrett, Pro Bowler Byron Young, and rising star Josaiah Stewart as key contributors, the Rams could be on the verge of establishing themselves as the most feared edge unit on the line of scrimmage, using their blazing speed and tremendous power to attack continuously from the outside.
It is a thin margin between the Rams and Texans for the top spot in the edge rusher group rankings. The Myles Garrett effect puts Los Angeles in the No. 1 position. He might go down as the greatest player to ever line up on the edge when it is all said and done.
It almost does not matter who lines up next to him, but for good measure, the Rams will trot out a Pro Bowler in Young who racked up 29 quarterback hits last year and might be even better in 2026 with Garrett commanding so much attention. The offensive lines that have to contain both Young and the NFL single-season sack record holder are in for long, long, long days.

Major League Baseball's trade deadline is just a few days away. On Monday, August 3rd at 4:00 PM MT, the Colorado Rockies will hopefully have had one of their most active deadlines in recent memory.
With a new front office helmed by president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta and general manager Josh Byrnes, it has been indicated that the Rockies are open for business. Many players–especially veterans and those on expiring contracts–have been designated as available and are even reportedly drawing interest from teams throughout the league.
The Rockies made their first trade last week to signal the start of the trade season. Right-handed reliever Seth Halvorsen was sent in a surprising and rare trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for two prospects. Last season, the Rockies similarly made their first big move before the deadline. However, under former general manager Bill Schmidt they ended up making just three total trades. Let's take a look back at those trades and see where the bar sits for this season's deadline.
In the week preceding last year's deadline, the Rockies signaled change might be coming when they dealt long-time third baseman and face of the franchise Ryan McMahon to the New York Yankees in exchange for pitching prospects Josh Grosz and Griffin Herring.
Grosz showed off his strikeout stuff in High-A Spokane to finish the 2025 season with 41 strikeouts in 38.1 innings. However, he struggled with his command and ended the season with a 5.87 ERA. The Rockies' new front office then traded Grosz this off-season to the Arizona Diamondbacks for outfielder Jake McCarthy. McCarthy has in turn become one of the Rockies' most valuable contributors and is now potentially on the market t be traded again within the next few days.

Platinum ****** et Management, an investment management company, released its Q2 2026 investor letter for "Platinum International Brands Fund". A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. The fund returned over 4% in the quarter but lost 14% over the past year, primarily due to the dominance of tech stocks amid an AI investment boom. Consumer-focused sectors underperformed due to weak sentiment and challenges such as high interest rates and rising oil prices, which have contributed to record-low consumer confidence. However, the fund's holdings remain fundamentally strong, with top holdings averaging 13% sales growth and 19% profit growth. The letter noted that positive developments include resumed job growth, reduced oil prices, and easing fiscal policy, which potentially enhance consumer sentiment. In addition, please check the Fund's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.

Platinum International Brands Fund stated the following regarding Birkenstock Holding plc (NYSE:BIRK) in its Q2 2026 investor update:
"Birkenstock Holding plc (NYSE:BIRK) (+23%) was among our strongest contributors over the past quarter. The German sandal-maker, with two and a half centuries of heritage, keeps finding fresh ways to grow as a capable management team burnishes the brand, opens new product lines and expands overseas. It earns a 24% operating margin and a 40% return on capital and grew profits 25% on a year ago. Any private owner would be content with these numbers. The CEO, who bought millions of euros in stock this year, and the board, which recently launched a substantial buyback, plainly agree."
