Oracle Chief Financial Officer Hilary Maxson told employees on Tuesday that the company's latest round of layoffs should not be understood as a directive to do more with fewer resources, according to Business Insider, which reviewed a recording of the remarks.
"I don't mean doing more with less, which is a phrase that I really, really don't like," Maxson said. "It means simplifying processes that don't help customers and making clear choices on where we're going to use our resources where they have the greatest impact."
The comments came during Maxson's first companywide meeting since joining Oracle, held one day after the company began a new round of job cuts. According to Business Insider, the layoffs went unmentioned by Maxson and the other executives who spoke during the roughly hour-long town hall. Instead, executives focused on growth, customer demand, and artificial intelligence.
Co-CEO Mike Sicilia used the meeting to offer employees a mantra for the quarter. "I'd ask you to keep asking a very simple question: How does the work that I'm doing help deliver a better outcome for a customer?" Sicilia said. "There's a lot of change around this, a lot going on in the world, and in moments like this, how we work together and how we show up for our customers and for each other matters most."
The latest cuts follow a significant reduction in Oracle's workforce over the past year. According to a regulatory filing, Oracle shed approximately 21,000 positions — representing about 13% of its workforce — across the fiscal year that closed on May 31, 2026.

Hilary Duff showed off her athleticism in Reebok micro shorts as the brand's new ambassador. The Authentic Brands Group-owned brand announced her appointment as an ambassador on Monday, August 31. The pop star and actress will appear in Reebok's "Unfiltered and Unstoppable" campaign.
Hilary Duff donned a monochrome Reebok ensemble in the new photos shared on social media on August 31. The upper half featured a fitted matte-black performance jacket defined by architectural paneling. The Reebok Women's Reflex Cropped Full Zip Performance Jacket featured a raised mock neck collar and a full-length exposed center-front zip with dual pullers.
The jacket's raglan sleeves accentuated the shoulder line before transitioning into extended cuffs. Meanwhile, the thumbholes in the cuffs secured the sleeves during movement. Understated contour stitching swept across the torso, giving it dynamic shape while maintaining a minimal, hardware-light aesthetic.
Below, Duff wore ribbed black shorts that sat high on her waist. The mid-thigh hemline created a clean cut that contrasted with the long-sleeved jacket. Functional side drop-in pockets lined the thigh panels, adding utility while maintaining flat-seam construction to avoid unnecessary bulk against the body. She completed the look with black socks. However, her shoes were not visible in the photos.
The "What Dreams Are Made Of" singer's dirty blonde hair was pulled back into a high ponytail, with loose strands that beautifully framed her face. Further, her makeup was warm and natural, featuring defined brows, a smoky eye in neutral tones, and a muted rose-berry lip. She only wore small, minimalist silver hoop earrings as jewelry, keeping the focus entirely on the all-black activewear.

MISHAWAKA — It would be hard to say with certain whose post-match smile was the biggest Thursday, Aug. 20 between NorthWood volleyball coach Hilary Laidig and her star player Ella Branham.
Both of their faces lit up the Marian High School gym with beaming pride following a key early-season victory.
Laidig watched as her gritty Panthers shook off a slow start to down the host Knights 3-1 in a matchup of area powers and Class 3A heavyweights.
Senior Branham powered down 21 kills to go with 15 digs as NorthWood prevailed 20-25, 27-25, 25-14, 26-24 in steamy conditions on Demetrius Jackson Court.

As a child, Paul Aaron can remember his mum shouting at him for cutting up her party dresses to make clothes for his Barbie dolls.
But decades later, his mother Ali is a lot more understanding as his coveted knitwear designs have been worn by some of the world's most famous faces including Kylie Jenner, Shakira and Zara Larsson.
Aaron, from Hooton, near Chester, said he had to pinch himself earlier this month when Hilary Duff wore his statement dress during her The Lucky Me Tour at New York's Madison Square Garden.
"It was crazy," said the 31-year-old, who loved watching the TV show Lizzie McGuire as a child where Duff plays the main character.
His fashion career began as a student at Central Saint Martins in London where he created a dress by knitting bin bags together.

Just a few weeks ago, only a handful of members of the U.S. women's hockey team were expected to attend the ESPYs, the annual awards show honoring the year's biggest athletes, teams and moments in sports.
By Wednesday afternoon, many more of the reigning Olympic gold medalists were swapping jerseys for gowns inside a midtown Manhattan penthouse. Champagne was flowing. Hair and makeup artists buzzed around the room. Defenseman Mariah Keopple, who also works as a stylist, helped teammates put the finishing touches on their looks before they headed to the awards show, airing live Wednesday night from the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City.
It wasn't exactly the typical pregame routine for one of the world's best hockey teams. And none of it would have happened without an unlikely benefactor: Flavor Flav.
The Public Enemy legend learned last week from U.S. captain Hilary Knight that only a handful of players had been invited to the ESPYs, where Team USA is nominated for Best Team following its dramatic gold-medal victory at the 2026 Winter Olympics. For Flavor Flav, the solution was simple: "I got you."
That promise quickly snowballed.

Jul. 24—GRAND FORKS — Matti Kwarta had just seven at-bats as a freshman at San Diego State this year.
On July 11, she won the Northwoods League's home run derby, beating out the likes of Wisconsin's Hilary Blomberg and Washington's Ava Carroll.
Kwarta was primarily a pitcher for the Aztecs. This summer with the Grand Forks Spitfires, though, Kwarta is proving she's still a major threat at the plate.
"I hope to bring what I've been doing here back to SDSU to help my team," Kwarta said. "It gives me more confidence knowing that I can do this at this level, going against great pitchers. So hopefully when I go back, this carries over. ... I would love to be able to hit more and be able to pitch."
Kwarta leads the Spitfires with 13 home runs, and her .475 batting average ranks fourth in the Northwoods League.

For years, the conversation surrounding women’s sports has centered on one word: equality. Flavor Flav is demonstrating another word leaders should consider: investment.
For many fans, Flavor Flav will forever be remembered as Public Enemy's energetic hype man, a 2013 Rock N Roll Hall of Fame inductee, the larger-than-life personality behind the iconic clock necklace, or the star of reality television's Flavor of Love.
But this past weekend, the Public Enemy co-founder brought more than one hundred Gold, Silver, and Bronze medalists from Team USA’s Women Olympic and Paralympic programs to Las Vegas for SHE Weekend—short for Sports, Hospitality and Entertainment— for a four-day celebration designed to give America’s female athletes something many had rarely experienced at this scale: a victory celebration built specifically around them. I went to experience it for myself, and it was incredible.
The weekend included a parade on the Las Vegas Strip, front-row seats to a private concert from Public Enemy, receiving keys to the Las Vegas Strip, and attendance to the Backstreet Boys’ Sphere residency, where Team USA Medal winners received an onstage acknowledgment. This was in addition to a slate of curated dinners and programming talks from executives across the spectrum.

Ashley Tisdale is reportedly hoping to turn her experience with a toxic mom group into a smash hit. The Disney Channel star is said to be partnering with Netflix to develop and executive produce a new half-hour comedy, "Toxic Moms," loosely inspired by her real-life friendship breakup with a group of celebrity mothers, including Hilary Duff and Mandy Moore. Tisdale, known for her roles in "High School Musical" and "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody," made headlines earlier this year when she opened up about leaving her group of moms after feeling excluded from their outings.
According to Deadline, Tisdale, in partnership with Sabrina Jalees and Ali Wong, will help create a new dark comedy series called "Toxic Moms" for Netflix.
It's said to follow a "sleep-deprived" mother who's recruited by a group of "cool, wealthy mothers." Throughout the series, the lead character is said to discover her new clique's "darker side," prompting her to ask, "How far would you go to taste community?"
While the series hasn't been greenlit just yet, if Netflix does pick it up, it would become the next production in the streamer's lineup of series featuring female leads, including "Running Point," "Nobody Wants This," "The Survival of the Thickest," and "North of North."
Tisdale has been in the spotlight since the early 2000s after starring in several Disney productions. In addition to the aforementioned works, Tisdale also snagged a role as Candace in "Phineas & Ferb."

The accolades keep coming for Caroline Harvey, with the U.S. national team and Wisconsin defender named the International Ice Hockey Federation’s female player of the year.
The honor caps a year in which the 23-year-old Harvey cemented her claim in being her generation’s most accomplished player.
Harvey was the overwhelming favorite in receiving more than 77% of the votes, the IIHF said. She finished ahead of Switzerland forward Alina Muller (9.1%), who scored her second career bronze medal-clinching goal at the Milan Cortina Games in February. Harvey’s U.S. and Badgers teammate Laila Edwards and Canadian captain Marie-Philip Poulin finished third with 4.5% of the votes.
To top it off, the IIHF honor comes the same day Harvey is expected to be selected with the first pick in the PWHL draft being held in Detroit.
From Pelham, New Hampshire, Harvey is the first defender and second American to earn the IIHF honor, joining Hilary Knight, who won the inaugural award in 2023.

The draft is finally here.
The 2026 PWHL Draft is set to take place on Wednesday, June 17, at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. The draft begins at 5 p.m. ET and will be televised locally on WJBK-TV (Ch. 20 in Detroit) and nationally on Scripps Sports, with streaming available on the PWHL YouTube channel.
The Vancouver Goldeneyes are scheduled to pick first overall in this year's draft, followed by the Seattle Torrent. Detroit's still-unnamed expansion franchise will make its first-ever draft pick, but it likely won't come in the first round, as Detroit traded its first-round pick to the Las Vegas expansion franchise for forward Hilary Knight.
The top prospect in this year's draft is Wisconsin defender Caroline Harvey, who along with Knight won gold for Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Plymouth native Kirsten Simms, also a defender at Wisconsin and Team USA member, is expected to be taken high in the draft, as well.
