The San Francisco Giants did the inevitable and got rid of multiple players in a fire sale during MLB's trade deadline in hopes of salvaging the remainder of the season with a focus on next year.
Six players were shipped out of San Francisco and on to different teams. Those players included Tyler Mahle to the Atlanta Braves, Luis Arraez and Caleb Kilian to the Philadelphia Phillies, Heliot Ramos to the New York Yankees, Robbie Ray to the San Diego Padres, and Erik Miller to the Boston Red Sox.
In return, the Giants got back a couple right-handed pitchers, Ramon Marquez and Marty Gair, from the Phillies. The Padres sent right-hand pitcher Miguel Mendez and infielder Joniel Hernandez to the Bay Area. The Yankees sent back left-hand pitcher Henry Lalane and shortstop Kaeden Kent, son of Giants legend and Hall of Famer Jeff Kent. San Francisco got infielder Marcelo Mayer from Boston. The New York Yankees are promoting shortstop George Lombard Jr., the top prospect in the organization and a consensus Top-100 prospect in all of MLB, from Triple-A to make his major league debut according to multiple reports Aug. 3.

ARLINGTON, Texas — If Heliot Ramos' All-Star appearance at this very ballpark two years ago didn't cement his status as one of the Giants' biggest recent homegrown success stories, then his second straight Opening Day start this year should have left little doubt.
Ramos became the franchise's first left fielder to do so since Barry Bonds two decades earlier.

The 2026 Trade Deadline has officially come and gone, and it's time for the immediate breakdown of the state of the Yankees following it. It's fair to say that most weren't projecting a flashy deadline for New York with a big-name blockbuster or anything of that sort, but it still comes as a surprise that at the end of the day they made only three moves: they traded Camilo Doval away to Pittsburgh, and then added Luis García Jr. alongside Heliot Ramos to bolster their lineup and provide some depth to the outfield while two of their stars are on the shelf.
Let's start with what they did accomplish before we get into what they failed to get. García is a legit A-plus addition offensively, leading the National League in slugging and coming in just behind Ben Rice for third overall across MLB. They also managed to pry him away from Washington for a basket of arms that they likely didn't have plans for this season and possibly even next, sending off their 14th-rated prospect Jack Cebert and their 25th-ranked prospect Ben Grable by MLB Pipeline's scouting, alongside Yovanny Cruz and Jake Bird. Cruz impressed in Triple-A this season and got a couple brief stints with the major league team but never seemed to be in the plans for a postseason bullpen, while Bird actively worked his way off the roster two years in a row after getting acquired at the deadline last season. Overall, that's a more than acceptable package to surrender in exchange for a bat that can mash against righties and bring some protection to Rice's spot in the order.

García's defensive fit is a bit more murky, as he's a first baseman when the team already has Rice and Paul Goldschmidt working there. Goldschmidt, for all his early-season success, is still meant to be a backup for this team, and it looks as though he'll cede playing time to García at first while Rice will primarily play as the designated hitter.
What that group looks like once Giancarlo Stanton is back in the fold, who knows, but the Yankees can't plan on Stanton just sliding back in after missing most of the season and needing a bat in the worst way to stay afloat here and now. The Yankees will have García for the 2027 season as well, ****** uming there will be one amidst CBA negotiations and the very real threat of a lengthy lockout.

NEW YORK (AP) — General manager Brian Cashman said the Yankees had conversations with the Detroit Tigers about Tarik Skubal and the Baltimore Orioles about Adley Rutschman but could not find a match before Monday's trade deadline.
Instead, the Yankees found other ways to bolster their roster, adding outfielder Heliot Ramos in a three-player trade from the last-place San Francisco Giants a day after acquiring left-handed hitting Luis Garcia Jr. from the Washington Nationals for four pitchers.
Skubal went to the Dodgers on Sunday in a blockbuster for three prospects and Rutschman was sent to the Red Sox for a package that included three of Boston's top prospects earlier Monday.
"We had many conversation with Baltimore but were unable to obviously meet the price," Cashman said in a video conference after the trade deadline passed. Aston Villa target Pervis Estupiñán isn't the only player expected to leave Milan this summer, as the Rossoneri are preparing for more sales, hoping to raise €150m this summer, reports Gazzetta.

Having scored a winner as a late substitute in his team's previous match against Portugal, ***** nal's Mikel Merino came off the bench late in Spain's quarter-final game against Belgium on Friday night.

Milan have already committed over €100m in funds on the signings of two players at the start of the summer transfer window, but Wednesday’s reports claim that the Rossoneri will not stop there and that they are already plotting their next steps on the market.
According to reports from various outlets on Tuesday, Milan have a full agreement in place to sign centre-back Mario Gila from Lazio in a package worth €30m including bonuses.
This comes after a club-record agreement for Portugal international Goncalo Ramos, who has joined the Rossoneri in a deal believed to be worth over €80m with all bonuses and add-ons included, which has already taken Milan’s summer spending to around €110m.
Ramos’s arrival has already been confirmed and he has put pen to paper on a five-year deal running until the summer of 2031. It is expected that Gila will do the same with wages of around €5m per season.
