Nadiem Amiri has now ended speculation surrounding his future by confirming that he will remain with Mainz 05 for the 2026/27 Bundesliga campaign. The Detroit Lions are signing former top-five pick Devin White, as first reported by NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
White was selected fifth overall in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His career got off to a hot start, making second-team All Pro and winning a Super Bowl by his second season. But after four productive season with Tampa, things dried up relatively quickly. He signed with the Eagles in 2024, but never ended up playing a snap for them. Then he jumped to Houston for a half season and played a full 17 games for the Las Vegas Raiders last year. In 2025, he actually finished third in the NFL in tackles with 174—just behind Detroit's Jack Campbell. However, he has not traditionally graded out well by PFF grade. He's never finished a season with a grade above 57.0, struggling both in the coverage and run defense departments.
This is the second linebacker the Lions have added in the last week, signing Troy Reeder just at the start of training camp. During Friday's practice, rookie linebacker Jimmy Rolder suffered a leg injury and did not return. At this time we don't know the severity of that injury.
White will have a chance to compete for a primary reserve role with the starting jobs likely already taken by Jack Campbell, Derrick Barnes, and Malcolm Rodriguez. But with his experience and strong athletic profile, there's certainly a chance he can make a run at a situational role on defense.

Indianapolis Colts' running back Jonathan Taylor has expressed his desire to remain with the Colts as he enters the final year of his contract. On Friday, owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon echoed similar sentiments.

Beyond all the yards and touchdowns, it is Taylor who sets the table for the Colts offense. With a strong and steady run game to lean on, that keeps the Colts out of predictable long down-and-distance situations and opens up the playbook for Steichen.

Under former head coach Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M's wide receiver rotations struggled to find any consistency, no matter who was throwing the ball, and even after landing five-star Evan Stewart and four-star Noah Thomas in the historic 2022 recruiting class, injuries, a lack of development, and poor usage derailed both players' careers in College Station.
Stewart, who transferred to Oregon after the 2023 season, is currently a redshirt senior with the Ducks, while Noah Thomas transferred to Georgia after three seasons with the Aggies, appearing in 35 games and recording 73 receptions for 934 yards and 15 touchdowns, serving as A&M's starting X receiver during his final season, which was by far his most productive.

Nebraska coach Matt Rhule represented the Huskers on Thursday at Big Ten Football Media Days in Chicago. Rhule was joined by Justin Evans, Luke Lindenmeyer and Andrew Marshall.

It will be the third consecutive game missed by the veteran center, who has been one of the Sun's most productive players when healthy this season.
Griner's status was not the only news to emerge from Connecticut's final availability report. Shortly before the game, the Sun announced that rookie guard Ashlon Jackson also would not be available because of a coach's decision.

The former Buckeye wide receiver standout was one of the most productive wide receivers in school history and has shown to be a valuable player at the professional level as well. When he was at Ohio State, Olave was known as one of the elite big-play threats and a polished route runner. He finished his college career with 176 catches, 2,711 receiving yards and a school-record 35 receiving touchdowns. He earned All-American honors in 2021 while also being the team captain.

When the Twins selected him with the 16th overall pick last July, Marek Houston was seen by most scouts as a lock to stick shortstop with elite defensive talent, but a fringy bat that projects for below average production in the major leagues. Just 27 games into his Double-A tenure, Houston is already producing offense at a high level, boasting a .325 batting average with a 135 wRC+. As he begins to pop up on top 100 prospect lists, there is a growing belief that his bat has a chance to provide some real impact for the Twins.
Standing at 6'3", Marek is a twitchy and fluid athlete. He is a plus runner, nabbing 38 bags so far this season while being caught just 4 times. He has an excellent approach at the plate. Very patient hitter who is running a chase rate around 17% this season with above-average walk rates. His swing mechanics have remained largely unchanged from his time at Wake Forest. The pre-swing hand load and leg kick is a little loud, but he breaks it down with 2 strikes, which has helped him limit strikeouts and put together mature at-bats despite posting average zone contact rates. His raw power is below average, but Houston has continued to tap into more and more juice as the season has gone on. There is quality gap power if he can consistently elevate the ball.
While the offensive ceiling is still limited, any doubt that Marek Houston may not have a major league caliber bat is effectively gone. If he doesn't tap into any more power, his profile is similar to that of Austin Martin or Luke Keaschall, a patient hitter who makes a lot of contact and provides value on the bases. While these guys don't hit for much power and have middling offensive numbers, they do more for the offense than the stats show. Combining that with plus defense at the shortstop position makes for an extremely valuable player and a guy who will find a way to make a positive impact on every game.

His main goal was to go after players who participate regularly on special teams that help fill out the backend of the lineup.
It's also worth noting that he wanted to incorporate rookies on his team. However, the Patriots did not have a rookie representative in this situation. The players Barnwell chose for the Patriots were wide receiver DeMario Douglas and defensive tackle Cory Durden.

It wasn't that long ago that Denzel Mims was a more highly-regarded WR prospect than George Pickens. Their careers have gone very different directions, with Pickens playing 2026 on the franchise tag and Mims coming off a two-year stint in the UFL. He didn't play until Week 7, but still had what ended up being his most productive season with 23 catches for 357 yards in nine games.
In Mims' second season, the Jets went from offensive-minded head coach Adam Gase to Robert Saleh, who brought in Matt LaFleur as a new offensive coordinator. This regime change, plus his own issues, hurt Mims' development and footing with the team. He went from eight starts as a rookie to just three in 2021. Mims requested a trade ahead of the 2022 seasons but was denied, and again was limited to a minor role in the WR rotation.
The Jets did finally trade him away in the 2023 offseason to the Lions, but he was waived/injured by Detroit midway through the preseason. He spent about two months on the Steelers' practice squad but didn't make it to their training camp the following year. Memphis football starts preseason practices on July 30, and that means the Tigers' quarterback competition is about to kick into gear.
The competition between West Florida transfer Marcus Stokes and South Carolina transfer Air Noland is set to dominate preseason storylines, but new coach Charles Huff has a way to get around the conversation when the Tigers kick off their season on Aug. 29 at UNLV.
"Actually I'm really thinking about running them both out there the first play, just so everybody can say both of them started," he joked at a press conference on July 28.
In reality, Huff said, he wants to be able to tell the team about a week before the game. There's both uncertainty and potential upside with each quarterback — Stokes was highly productive at the Division II level but has never played a Division I game, while Noland has barely played in college but has been around elite quarterbacks at Ohio State and South Carolina.
In talking about the need to have two quarterbacks who can play at a high level, Huff referenced last year's Memphis team. Starting quarterback Brendon Lewis got injured in the middle of the season and was never 100% after that as the Tigers lost their last four games and finished 8-5.
