Planning to settle in for the Arizona Cardinals' second preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday, Aug. 13? Well, enjoy.
This is about as good as preseason football gets. Both teams are set to play their starters, as announced by both head coaches. For the Cardinals, that might only last a drive or two, but it's still those players' first action of preseason. The Raiders' starters could last even longer — head coach Klint Kubiak left that ambiguous.
Then, when the starters exit, we'll get Carson Beck — the star of last week's Hall of Fame game — against Fernando Mendoza, Las Vegas' No. 1 overall pick. To make that matchup even more exciting, it's a rematch of the national championship game, when Mendoza led Indiana past Beck's Miami. Should be fun.
On the Cardinals' side, here are five storylines to watch for.
For Beck to earn playing time come the regular season, he needs to surpass not just Jacoby Brissett but also backup Gardner Minshew.

Quarterback Kyler Murray is no longer a member of the Arizona Cardinals, but a number of Cardinals fans will likely follow how he does with the Minnesota Vikings. There was big news from Vikings camp on Tuesday, as head coach Kevin O'Connell announced that Murray will be the team's starting quarterback.
Murray beat out former first-round pick J.J. McCarthy in the competition they had during the offseason and through the first couple of weeks of training camp.
The move was largely expected.
Murray only played in five games last season for the Cardinals, injuring his foot, getting placed on injured reserve and never returning. The Cardinals went 1-11 after that, losing their final nine games with Jacoby Brissett at quarterback, but the Cardinals decided to move on from Murray after seven seasons. They released him, and he signed with Minnesota.
The Cardinals and Vikings will not face each other in the regular season.

Arizona Cardinals fans will get to have a first look at what the offense and defense might look like in the regular season. Head coach Mike LaFleur told reporters on Tuesday, the final day of training camp in Glendale, Arizona, that starters would get action in the team's preseason game on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday.
"They're all going to play," LaFleur said. "We'll have our guys out there." He said that would include starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett, although the starters won't go for long. "(It) could be one drive (or a) max of two for those main guys, but yeah, they'll be playing and they know that."
That means fans will see rookie running back Jeremiyah Love and everyone who is healthy in action.
The Raiders are expected to play their starters, too, which means, for a series or two, we will see what the Cardinals starters look like against other NFL starters, albeit against the Las Vegas Raiders, who were the worst team in the NFL last season.
The offense played well in the Hall of Fame Game. The defense did not.

Love him or loathe him, former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray will always be a part of franchise history. He is a former first overall pick and played seven seasons with the Cardinals.
After Mike LaFleur was hired as the new head coach of the Cardinals after a historical 14 loss season, there were discussions immediately about the quarterback room.
RELATED: BRISSETT HAS NEW DEAL. CAN HE NOW FOCUS ON THE JOB?
Who to keep? Did they want a QB competition between Murray and Jacoby Brissett? Cut bait? Trade one? Release or trade both?
At the time, there were several free agent options such as Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson. The draft was approaching, and Arizona owned the #3 overall pick, which could be traded so that they could accrue more draft picks and get the young quarterback they wanted.

When the Arizona Cardinals take on the Las Vegas Raiders Thursday, Aug. 13, their depth chart will have a slightly different look.
Unlike last week's Hall of Fame game, the Cardinals will play their starters, head coach Mike LaFleur announced on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
"They're gonna play," LaFleur said. "So we'll have our guys out there. How much? It's not gonna be much. Could be one drive. Max of two for those main guys."
That includes quarterback Jacoby Brissett, LaFleur confirmed.
Brissett got a late start to his offseason due to a contract holdout, which stretched over three months. He did not return to full participation in practice until two weeks ago. But the Cardinals have been encouraged by his progress — a result of extra time in meeting rooms with the coaching staff.

Baker Mayfield is focused on leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2026, but until a long-term contract extension is signed, his future will continue to generate speculation around the NFL. In a recent article, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox identified five teams that could keep a close eye on Mayfield's contract situation throughout the season if he and the Buccaneers fail to reach an agreement.
Those teams include the Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, and Carolina Panthers.
The reasoning is simple: franchise quarterbacks rarely become available. Mayfield has revitalized his career in Tampa Bay, emerging as one of the NFL's more consistent veteran quarterbacks while leading the Buccaneers to multiple playoff appearances. If contract negotiations remain unresolved and he were somehow to reach free agency, he would immediately become one of the most sought-after players on the market.
Each team presents an interesting scenario.
The Vikings could find themselves searching for a proven veteran depending on how their quarterback situation develops with newly acquired Kyler Murray and JJ McCarthy. The Jets and Steelers have both faced uncertainty at the position in recent years and could look to an established starter if their current plans don't produce results, especially with Aaron Rodgers confirming this will be his last season. The Cardinals were also mentioned as a team that traded away Kyler Murray and is now relying on journeyman Jacoby Brissett, while the Panthers would add an intriguing NFC South wrinkle if they ever explored the possibility of pursuing Tampa Bay's quarterback as Bryce Young enters a crucial year.

Nearly six months after the Super Bowl, the NFL is back Thursday night.
The Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals will face off in the traditional preseason opener, the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, getting an early start on their preparations for the 2026 campaign.
While Bryce Young remains key to the Panthers' fortunes, he won't be suiting up Thursday. Kenny Pickett will get the start at QB for Carolina with undrafted rookie Haynes King from Georgia Tech set to back him up.
The Cardinals will use the opener to take a long look at third-round pick Carson Beck, who will start at QB with Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew not expected to play.

Two weeks of training camp are down and, gradually, the Arizona Cardinals are beginning to look like a fully formed version of themselves. Jacoby Brissett is back in the fold, as is Paris Johnson Jr. On defense, Josh Sweat and Garrett Williams are on the way toward returns.
Plus, the pads are on and preseason is here, with the Hall of Fame game on Thursday, Aug. 6 and a trip to face the Las Vegas Raiders seven days later. Experimentation, as Mike LaFleur says, is mostly in the rearview mirror. This portion of camp is about the Cardinals refining strengths.
So, here are five takeaways from the second week of training camp.
Remember the panic about Marvin Harrison Jr.'s (admittedly ugly) drops earlier in training camp? That feels like a relic of the past now.
Throughout training camp, he's consistently made easy work of cornerbacks like Denzel Burke and Sean Murphy-Bunting. He's even gotten the better of Will Johnson more often than not.

On Thursday night, for the first time in approximately six months, there will be NFL action as the Carolina Panthers and the Arizona Cardinals open the preseason when they clash in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. And while there is never too much to take away from this game (or most preseason games), and neither team is expected to be a top Super Bowl contender this season, there are some things to keep an eye on Thursday night.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the game will be the battle between the two "starting" quarterbacks. The term "starting" is in quotation marks because we know that neither announced starter for the game, which will be Kenny Pickett for the Panthers and Carson Beck for the Cardinals, is expected to start this season for their respective teams. But both men have something to prove.
For Pickett, who was a first-round draft pick in 2022 for his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers, every preseason is the window for the now-fifth-year signal-caller to prove he belongs in the league. He went 7-5 as a starter during his first two seasons in Pittsburgh, but the statistics were worse than the admittedly average record, and he eventually was benched and traded.
Since then, he has only started three games in the past two seasons and hopes to prove he can compete with Bryce Young for the starting job. If he wants that to happen, it starts on Thursday night in Canton.
Meanwhile, Beck was a third-round draft pick this year after leading Miami (FL) to a national runner-up finish, but he has some obstacles in his way if he hopes to be an NFL starter. But even though one of those players, Jacoby Brissett, finally settled his contract dispute with the Cardinals, he is still relatively unproven and inconsistent as an NFL starter.

The Arizona Cardinals head into 2026 with a new head coach in ex-Rams and Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur running the show.
And while they used their No. 3 overall pick on Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, the offense remains mostly the same with quarterback Jacoby Brissett under center and receivers Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michael Wilson out wide with tight end Trey McBride back as well.
Arizona will look to contend in the highly contested NFC West with the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks, the NFC runner-up Rams and the always-dangerous 49ers.
The Cardinals may not be a threat in 2026, but the team will get its first start of a new era in the preseason.

Carson Beck had "no clue" he was going to start the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game until this week. He was the last to know.
As (almost) everyone knows, veteran quarterbacks don't generally play in the Hall of Fame Game.
The third-round rookie is new to this thing, though.
"I thought I was going to play, but I had no expectations," Beck said Tuesday, via Darren Urban of the team website. "Obviously our schedule has been crazy right now. But I'm looking forward to it."
Coach Mike LaFleur has not publicly addressed playing time for his quarterbacks, but with Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew expected to spend the night on the sideline, Beck likely sees most of the playing time. Fourth-stringer Kedon Slovis also could play.

When Jacoby Brissett returned to full practice reps earlier this week, following the conclusion of his contract negotiation saga, he immediately elevated the first-team offense. Head coach Mike LaFleur even acknowledged that practice on Friday, July 31 was the best that his group has looked since training camp began.
But two days later, Brissett and the Cardinals' offense took a step backward.
Most notably, Brissett finished the day with two interceptions. Both resulted from poor reads. On the first, he threw directly at cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting, who undercut an out route from Michael Wilson. On the second, he never saw linebacker Cody Simon gaining depth in the flat, where he stepped in front of Marvin Harrison Jr. on another out route.
With Brissett struggling, Harrison finished the day without a single catch on just one target. Wilson caught one ball on his two targets. The lone bright spot for the starting offense was Trey McBride, who caught all six of his targets, including a touchdown during red zone work.
The biggest silver lining, though, came from the backups. Carson Beck had his best day of training camp, with a few standout throws. On one, he layered a perfect pass over a linebacker to hit Simi Fehoko over the middle. On the very next play, he stepped through a muddled pocket to find Xavier Weaver for a touchdown. Later, he went back to Weaver on the goal line, with a well-placed ball where only Weaver could catch it.

This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with retired 8-time Pro Bowl defensive back Patrick Peterson.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Peterson, who participated in this year's American Century Championship, held at Edgewood Tahoe and aired on NBC and Peacock, discussed Arizona Cardinals rookie Jeremiyah Love's chances of excelling in his rookie season ahead of the Week 11 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.
"I like the pick because they have a receiver; there wasn't a quarterback there that they felt they could get them over the hump right now. Jacoby Brissett was a salvageable quarterback due to the absence of Kyler Murray; they had pretty much everything they wanted on the offensive side of the ball," said Peterson. "Still, they felt like they were missing that home run hitter, that other piece, and that was Jeremiyah Love. I love the pick. My only thing would be, how much are they going to put on his plate?"
The Chiefs will host the Cardinals in Week 11 this season and get an opposing look at Love, the third overall draft pick out of Notre Dame. In 2025, Love rushed 199 times for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging 6.9 yards per carry. He also tallied 27 receptions for 280 yards and three receiving touchdowns, earning finalist status for the Heisman Trophy.
"I know Coach Mike LaFleur is coming from the (Los Angeles) Rams, they have a lot of nuances in their offense to get their playmakers involved in the ball game, but you also gotta think about the Arizona Cardinals, were the fifth pick for a reason, they have a lot of holes in that team, offensive linemen, protecting the quarterback and being able to open lanes for him, you have a quarterback issue," said Peterson, "If your quarterback is not good enough to be able to loosen up defenses, how you expect a rookie running back to be explosive, he definitely has a lot of ups and downs, a lot of challenges that he's facing right now, but he is a home run here; he's a great player, and I'm not upset at all with the pick. Now, Arizona is going to have to do a great job of putting the pieces around him so that he can be successful."

The Arizona Cardinals, after a day off on Monday, were back at practice at State Farm Stadium on Tuesday. The pads went on and quarterback Jacoby Brissett took over first-team reps with the offense.
What happened on Tuesday?
While Paris Johnson has been activated, there is nothing new with the other three players. Josh Sweat, Garrett Williams and Tip Reiman still haven't been cleared to practice.
Harrison had some injury issues on Sunday. It appeared he might have had back and ankle issues. However, head coach Mike LaFleur said that he was cramping.
According to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss, Harrison had a couple of drops. Per Cardinals.com's Darren Urban, "he found himself wide open about five times in the heart of the defense, Brissett delivering the ball each time. When the Cardinals were running 13 personnel, Harrison was the wideout with the three tight ends."

The Arizona Cardinals began training camp this week, and all eyes were on whether or not quarterback Jacoby Brissett would show.Â
Brissett is in the midst of a contract dispute with the Cardinals, and did not participate in OTAâs earlier this offseason. After finishing the 2025 season as the starter, heâs hoping to finally get paid like one, but the two sides have been unable to come to an agreement just yet.Â
Still, when asked about the situation, head coach Mike LaFleur remained positive about the direction they were headed with their veteran signal caller.Â
âItâs been productive between us and his team, so it's still ongoing. But Iâd say the word productive,â said LaFleur.Â
âYeah, heâs here. Heâs under contract, and itâs the first day of practice,â he added.Â

The Arizona Cardinals reported for training camp on Wednesday and had their first practice on Thursday, although it was not open to fans. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett got his first reps in the new offense, running back James Conner and Trey Benson, both of whom did not get work in the offseason program, participated in drills, and quarterback Gardner Minshew was with the first-team offense.
There was limited access, but there were some photos and videos of the first practice.
Below are some of what was shared on social media.
This was a video from SI.com's Donnie Druin.
Here are other photos and videos from reporters who were at practice at State Farm Stadium.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett is still angling for a new contract, but he won't be a holdout. Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur confirmed in a press conference on Thursday that Brissett will be practicing with the rest of the team.
"Still ongoing. It's been productive between us and his team," LaFleur said of negotiations on a potential extension.
Brissett is set to be the team's starting quarterback this fall, but is reportedly aiming for an extension that will pay him like one. As a result, the veteran QB skipped the Cardinals' offseason workouts and optional practices while conversations were ongoing.
At the time, LaFleur downplayed Brissett's decision to miss OTAs. Brissett later made it to mandatory minicamp in June; skipping that camp or full-team training camp, which started on Thursday, would have made him a holdout.
Under Brissett's current deal, the veteran QB is set to make $4.88 million in base salary, with $1.5 million guaranteed and $2 million in potential incentives, per Spotrac. That makes him one of the lowest-paid starting quarterbacks in the league by far — below even rookie Los Angeles Rams backup Ty Simpson in annual salary, per Over the Cap.

Jacoby Brissett is at Cardinals training camp and the quarterback is not staging a hold-in for the team's first practice.
Head coach Mike LaFleur told reporters that Brissett will participate in the team's first workout of the summer on Thursday. Brissett skipped the voluntary portion of the team's offseason program and did not participate after reporting to the team's mandatory minicamp last month.
Brissett is looking for a revised contract that better reflects his position as the team's likely starter at quarterback to kick off the season. There has been no agreement on a new deal at this point, but LaFleur said at his press conference that talks on that front have been "productive."
As long as things remain unresolved on the contract front, there would be a chance that Brissett makes a different decision regarding his practice plans but camp will open with the veteran taking reps along with his fellow quarterbacks Gardner Minshew and Carson Beck.

The Arizona Cardinals have a quarterback problem going into this year’s training camp.
Not enough bodies? No. None of the guys has any talent? Nope. Need players who have more NFL experience? Que va!
RELATED: CARDINALS & BRISSETT ‘SIGNIFICANTLY’ FAR APART
The problem then? Last year’s starter, Jacoby Brissett, wants to be paid more going into 2026.
He signed a two-year deal before the 2025 season for $12.5 million. The premise was that Brissett would be starting QB Kyler Murray’s backup. $6.25 million is a good haul to dress out, stand on the sideline, and hold the tablet for just 17 weeks out of the calendar year.

The 2026 MLB Draft starts today! Coverage starts on NBC or Peacock with a half-hour preview show at noon followed by the first pick at 12:30 CT. The first hour (about 10 picks) will then be on NBC or Peacock when coverage switches to MLB Network, MLB.com or MLB.tv from 1:3o to 3:30. That should cover picks 11 through 40, or enough for every team to pick once.
After that, rounds 2 through 4 will be today (Saturday) on MLB.com or MLB.tv. Rounds 5 through 20 start on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. CT. Those rounds will conducted by a conference call, but you can again listen in on MLB.com or MLB.tv.
The White Sox have the first pick in the draft and as I write this, no one is sure whether they will select UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky, Fort Worth Christian HS shortstop Grady Emerson, or Georgia Tech catcher Vahn Lackey. Those three players are expected to go 1 through 3 in the draft, with the Rays and Twins taking whomever the White Sox don’t.
In my preview on Friday, I gave some possibilities for the Cubs with the 23rd pick in the first round. The Cubs could get a real great player with that pick. Some players who went 23rd in the draft this century include Christian Yelich, Jacoby Ellsbury, Phil Hughes, Gavin Williams and Jeff Francoeur. However, more often than not, the player taken with the 23rd pick either fails to reach the majors or only has a short career. So the draft is indeed a ***** shoot—one with huge rewards but also one in which the odds are against every team. So keep that in mind as the Cubs select.
Throughout the draft, we’ll be updating this article with the names of every player taken by the Cubs. We’ll also be giving you separate articles welcoming the Cubs first five picks, along with the information you need to know about them.

Find one glowing review of the Minnesota Vikings' addition of quarterback Kyler Murray — and there are plenty — that doesn't mention Murray's salary as the foremost reason to love it. We'll wait.
Of course Murray's veteran's minimum salary is a great financial deal for the Vikings. He's making $1.3 million, the same as a backup linebacker who contributes on special teams or swing offensive tackle. A cheap salary alone doesn't mean Murray will bring the Vikings back to the playoffs.
Murray has played a lot of football. He has logged 87 career games. Terrell Davis had a Hall of Fame career and played just 78. And Murray has never truly broken out. His 92.2 career passer rating puts him in the middle of the pack of current NFL quarterbacks. The Cardinals made the playoffs one time with Murray and got blown out in their only postseason game.
This offseason, the woebegone Cardinals decided they'd rather have Jacoby Brissett as their quarterback and pay a dead cap hit of $54.7 million to simply be done with Murray. Does that sound like a savior? Murray has consistently shown that his level is average, and that's over a sample size of seven NFL seasons.

The biggest story of the offseason for the Arizona Cardinals has been the ongoing contract dispute with Jacoby Brissett. Projected to be the Cardinals' starting quarterback and due to make only about $4.9 million in salary, of which $1.5 million is guaranteed, he seeks to be paid like a starter.
One of his Cardinals teammates appears to have made a real statement about the situation on social media.
Safety Budda Baker, seemingly in support of Brissett, or perhaps some other teammate in contract talks, posted:
"Just want bro to get his (expletive) done… he is not asking for what you think. Bro is asking for below the bare minimum. Let’s just get it done!!!"
If it is about Brissett, it is interesting that Baker says that what is being asked is below the bare minimum. The last we heard about negotiations was that the Cardinals and Brissett were very far apart.

The NFC West division once again looks primed to have 3 Super Bowl contenders in the Seattle Seahawks (Super Bowl Champs), the San Francisco 49ers, and the Los Angeles Rams. The Arizona Cardinals are not quite there yet because of the horrendous defense they displayed last season, so the jury will still be out on them until something changes in the standings. But just like every other division in football, every team is optimistic at the start of camp and feels it has a reason to make some noise in 2026. Let's figure out why.
Arizona Cardinals - Are the Cardinals playing the long game at QB with Carson Beck?
It will remain to be seen whether the Arizona Cardinals are playing the long game at QB. They will start veteran Jacoby Brissett, and the team drafted Carson Beck in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft. A season of tanking for a quarterback with the last name Manning in 2027? Not quite; Brissett will not necessarily be on a short leash, but Beck will play at some point. The QB position should be shored up within two years, but in the short term, it seems like new coach, new quarterback, same old, same old for the Cardinals. The young foundation will mature eventually.
Los Angeles Rams - They came up agonizingly short the last two seasons. What now?
The Super Bowl window remains open for the Los Angeles Rams as long as Matthew Stafford can still sling it at an MVP-caliber level. If Aaron Donald comes out of retirement to pair with Myles Garrett? Look out, NFL. Loaded with talent and great coaching, the Rams may be the most optimistic team heading into 2026. The foundation is there, until it isn't, and the Super Bowl is in Inglewood. Coincidence?

The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team.
Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2025, questions they face and their roster outlook.
Here is quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
Brissett enters his 11th NFL season and second with the Cardinals. He signed a two-year deal in free agency in 2025 to be the Cardinals' backup quarterback but ended up starting 12 games after Kyler Murray suffered a foot injury that ultimately ended his season.
Brissett set career highs with 3,366 passing yards and 23 touchdown passes, but the Cardinals were 1-11 in his starts and lost their final nine games, including six by three or more scores.

We're in the dead of summer and the NFL offseason has slowed down significantly since free agency opened back in March. OTAs are in full swing and the rumor mill and hearsay machines are both churning. Basically, it's easy for player opinions to swing one way or the other right now. Yahoo ***** ysts Scott Pianowski, Justin Boone and Joel Smyth go around the table revealing the players they've changed opinions on the most thus far this offseason.

Ladd McConkey's sophomore season was no fun, I get it. But it's largely an excused absence in my mind. The offensive line fell apart quickly, the target tree was congested, the play calling got stale. Everything appears fixed now — healthy line, trimmer target tree and a fresh OC in respected Mike McDaniel. McConkey showed difference-maker traits in the second half of 2024, and he can get back there. I'm prepared to draft him proactively. — Pianowski
Kyler Murray struggled through the first five games in Arizona last year before suffering a Lisfranc foot sprain that sidelined him for the rest of the season. Even when he was on the field, Murray failed to finish inside the top 15 fantasy quarterbacks in any of his outings and watched as backup Jacoby Brissett helped Trey McBride and Michael Wilson reach career highs. Fortunately, Murray found an ideal landing spot with the Vikings.
In Minnesota, he'll benefit from an upgraded environment in terms of coaching and his supporting cast. When you pair Murray's rushing ability with Kevin O'Connell's past success with veteran passers, it will give the 28-year-old (turns 29 in August) an excellent chance to become a fantasy starter once again. Don't forget, Murray was a top-12 fantasy QB on a per game basis in each of his six seasons before the disappointing 2025 campaign. Fantasy managers should expect a bounce-back year from Murray, who is firmly among the late-round QBs worth targeting. — Boone

A former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker has returned to the Steel City brand of football following a successful stint with the United Football League.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, former Steelers linebacker Jacoby Windmon, who recently played for the UFL's Columbus Aviators, re-signed with Pittsburgh for what will be his third stint with the team.
Entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Steelers following the 2024 NFL Draft, Windmon was waived as part of final roster cuts but re-joined Pittsburgh's practice squad.
The Carolina Panthers signed Windmon off the Steelers' practice squad during his rookie year. He was waived by the Panthers in August 2025 but signed with the Steelers for his second stint in October of that year. He was once again released by Pittsburgh and would join the Panthers for his second stint with Carolina.
After signing a reserve/future contract with the Panthers in January 2026, Windmon was waived by Carolina on May 7, and he would join the Aviators one week later.

The Arizona Cardinals' offseason has been dominated for the last month by the story that quarterback Jacoby Brissett wants a new contract and that he was holding out of the voluntary part of the offseason program to get a new deal. After going 1-11 in 12 starts, despite a career high in passing yards and passing touchdowns, and the career seasons by receiver Michael Wilson and tight end Trey McBride, this holdout is an embarrassing look for all involved.
And it is all because the Cardinals made one big mistake.
The mistake?
They told Brissett that he was going to be their QB1 without a competition.
Brissett enters the final year of his two-year, $12.5 million contract with the Cardinals. He signed the deal expecting to be the backup quarterback to Kyler Murray. When Murray got hurt, Brissett took over and he started 12 games.

The Arizona Cardinals opened its mandatory veteran minicamp, which will run from June 8 to June 10. The minicamp will consist of practice sessions only on Tuesday and Wednesday. EDGE rusher Josh Sweat has made an appearance since not showing for any of the voluntary OTAs.
To date, ******* ody really knows why Sweat wasn’t showing up for the team activities.

QB Jacoby Brissett had been another holdout but has also reported. But Brissett’s absence is over his demand to have his contract restructured since he was named the starting quarterback and yet is being paid the #30 best salary in the league, basically still playing on a backup salary.
But with Sweat, it is unknown what his deal was.
