Three LPGA golfers have won consecutive tournaments in 2026. Might there be a fourth this week?
Miyu Yamashita of ******* an, who won last week's CPKC Women's Open in a rout by nine shots, shot 2-under 70 on Friday. She had it to 10 under and the solo lead at one point but a late bogey dropped her into a three-way tie for the lead at the FM Championship.
Yamashita has two wins this season and a third this week would put her alongside three golfers who have won back-to-back starts in 2026: Hyo Joo Kim (Fortinet and Ford in March), Nelly Korda (Chevron and Riviera Maya in April) and Haeran Ryu (KPMG Women's PGA and Amundi Evian) in late June/early July.
Yamashita started on the back nine and birdie Nos. 16 and 17. A bogey on No. 1 was followed by birdies at Nos. 2 and 6 before one more bogey at the eighth hole. A somewhat ho-hum round but she's co-leading alongside Kim, and Allisen Corpuz, who has yet to win in 2026. Two golfers tied for fourth, Morgane Metraux and Ruoning Yin, posted 7-under 65s. Suvichaya Vinijchaitham, tied for ninth, also shot 65, the best score of the day Friday.
Defending champ Lottie Woad is tied for 27th after a 73 on Friday.

Miyu Yamashita, one of the smallest players in the game, loomed large in Canada. The 4-foot-11 powerhouse dominated the field at the CPKC Women's Open in style, finishing at 23-udder 257 to tie an LPGA scoring record and win by nine.
"I was nervous," Yamashita said after the round without the aid of an interpreter. "My shot, my game, I trust my swing."
Yamashita went back to ***** an to work with her father, who doubles as her instructor, and the results were undeniable. One of the most precise players on tour, Yamashita picked apart Royal Mayfair Golf Club with an opening 62 and never looked back. She added rounds of 64-65-66 to finish at 23-under 257, nine ahead of compatriot Yuri Yoshida, a woman who had missed her last six cuts.
Yamashita tied a record set by Sei Young Kim at the 2018 Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic. Kim, by the way, finished solo third in Edmonton, Alberta.
The home crowd had much to cheer about as two Canadian teens finish in the top 10. Anna Huang, a 17-year-old pro who has won four times on the LET, closed with a 65 to finish in a share of fourth. Aphrodite Deng, a 16-year-old amateur, took a share of seventh with a birdie on the last hole. Both are into the field for next week's FM Championship.

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — Miyu Yamashita opened a five-stroke lead Friday in the CPKC Women's Open as players again fought mosquitos on the tree-lined course tucked in a bend in the North Saskatchewan River.
A stroke ahead Thursday after an opening 8-under 62, the 4-foot-11 Yamashita shot 64 in the afternoon to get to 14 under at Royal Mayfair.
"I'm really happy," Yamashita said through a translator. "With two rounds to go, I just want to focus on my game and keep playing like this."
The 25-year-old ***** anese player won the Meijer LPGA Classic in June after taking the Women's British Open and Maybank Championship last year.
"Rather than focus on the score, I'm thinking about how I can make birdies," the 2025 LPGA rookie of the year said.

TOKYO, Aug 3 (Reuters) - A joint U.S.-Japanese effort to fight off speculative bets against a battered yen last week followed months of preparation by the two nations and a rare and public alignment of interests in Washington and Tokyo over exchange rates.
While unilateral efforts by **** anese authorities to stop sharp yen selling in the past have failed to provide a firm floor for the currency, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's verbal ‌support for a stronger yen has given bureaucrats in Tokyo a new tool in their fight this year.
For **** an, a weak yen has fanned import prices, creating cost-of-living headaches for successive governments, including current Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's.
For the U.S., a ‌weak yen blunts the trade advantage from President Donald Trump's flagship tariffs while a related sell-off in **** anese government bonds could spill over to U.S. Treasury yields.

LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England – For Georgia Hall, the fairytale finish wasn't meant to be, though she will certainly have memories and photos to cherish.
Hall returned to Royal Lytham and St. Annes, site of her major championship triumph eight years ago, with infant son Conor and fiancé Paul Dunne by her side. It was a lovely family event, even if her golf at the 2026 AIG Women's British Open didn't get her to the weekend. Hall shot 76-72 to finish at 6 over for the championship. The cut fell at 4 over, with 66 players advancing.
"I had a picture with him on 18 and that will definitely be my screen saver," said Hall. "I have my whole life there with Paul. It's lovely. It's a shame he's not a bit older, but I'm really grateful that I kind of made it back here and everything went well enough in the birth to allow me to play."
It was a tough week for moms, in fact, as only Alison Lee (4 over) has a Saturday tee time. Royal Lytham was the site of Catriona Matthew's incredible feat in 2009, when she triumphed only 11 weeks after giving birth to daughter Sophie.
Perhaps the most shocking player to miss the cut this week was defending champion Miyu Yamashita, who made a quadruple-bogey eight on the par-4 18th after bunker trouble and a triple on the par-4 third. Yamashita shot 77 on Friday to finish at 7 over for the tournament. It marked her first missed cut in a major since the 2024 British Open.

TOKYO, July 2 (Reuters) - ***** anese officials are abandoning their habit of telegraphing intervention risks, instead signalling a more targeted campaign to squeeze speculators and raise the cost of betting against the battered yen, two sources familiar with the matter said.
Departing from the calibrated jawboning that preceded previous bouts of intervention, the Ministry of ‌Finance (MOF) could step in abruptly to wipe out speculative yen positions, the sources said. Officials are also avoiding any suggestion of a specific "line in the sand" exchange-rate level that would trigger action.
The ‌shift reflects a more aggressive approach by the MOF, which is using silence as a policy tool to keep traders guessing. That raises the risk of a surprise intervention driven by an accumulation of speculative short-yen bets rather than by the currency crossing a publicly understood threshold, the sources said.
The MOF's approach and the Bank of ***** an's continued hawkish rhetoric signal a coordinated effort to keep yen bears at bay, two other sources said.

BELMONT, Mich. — Miyu Yamashita got into a playoff Sunday in the Meijer LPGA Classic when Lottie Woad's 3-foot par try lipped out to close regulation, then won with a 3-footer of her own on the first extra hole.
Five strokes behind third-round leader Jing Yan and four back of Woad going into the day, Yamashita shot an 8-under 64 to get to 17-under 271 at Blythefield Country Club. The 24-year-old ******* anese player birdied the par-5 18th in regulation and the playoff.
"I had really good feeling," the 4-foot-11 Yamashita said. "I'm really happy to win."
Woad had a 68, holing out from a bunker for birdie on the 17th before running into trouble on the 467-yard 18th.
"Felt like I hit an OK putt," the 22-year-old English player said. "Obviously, lipped out on the high side."

Miyu Yamashita birdied the first playoff hole to beat Lottie Woad in a duel of rising stars at the Meijer LPGA Classic in Belmont, Michigan, on Sunday.
Japan's Yamashita, who won the Women's British Open and the Maybank Championship in her 2025 Rookie of the Year campaign, conjured nine birdies in an eight-under par 64, erasing a five-point overnight deficit and winning after Woad faltered with a three-putt bogey at the 72nd hole.
They had traded or shared the lead for much of the afternoon, but Woad was in command when she holed out from a greenside bunker for birdie and a two-shot lead at the 17th.
Ahead of her, Yamashita birdied 18 to cut the deficit to one and Woad couldn't hang on.
Her short par putt to win lipped out and she signed for a four-under 68 that left her tied with Yamashita on 17-under 271.
