NWSL Week 13 saw an old storyline play out again, and the two sides involved end up top of table. Both expansion sides earned well-won victories, and Seattle will be wondering how they let a match get away from them. Racing Louisville were eyeing their first victory in a spell, only to see it vanish late.
The league's goal-scorers are doing what they are supposed to do, and new stars are emerging. Rose Lavelle brings the drama twice for Gotham, while Bay FC's Karlie Lema is making people take notice. Utah's terrific turnaround continues, and Portland stumbles again. In disheartening news, one of the league's young stars went down with a season-ending injury.
NWSL Week 13 featured joy, triumph, heartbreak and disappointment.
Gotham and Rose Lavelle have had Washington's number lately, and that number is 1-0. In last season's championship, the Gotham star scored late to give her side the ****** le. In the two team's latest meeting, Lavelle struck again for the only goal of the match.
This match was a highlight for the league this season. Gotham will be moving from New Jersey to the new Etihad Park in New York City in 2028, and this match showcased the new digs. To showcase what women's football can be in NYC, Gotham hosted the Spirit in front of more than 42,000 fans, the second largest regular-season crowd in NWSL history. While conditions were less than ideal, the teams put on a show for the fans in attendance.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass – After a slow day on Monday that consisted of just a walkthrough practice, the New England Patriots certainly ramped things up on Tuesday. The players took the field in shells, preparing for their first padded practice which is set for later this week.
And with that, those in attendance got their first look at the offense doing 7-on-7 drills as well as some time spent on 1-on-1s between the offensive and defensive lines.
With a higher-intensity practice comes lots more to talk about, so let's get into some takeaways:
The Patriots had three players depart practice early on Tuesday. First, it was starting cornerback Carlton Davis, who left after covering A.J. Brown during the 7-on-7 session. Kindle Vildor replaced him, and then Charles Woods. Then, when 11-on-11s began, it was Woods who was playing opposite Gonzalez, but he also left early. And lastly, there was Rhamondre Stevenson, who departed in the final minutes of practice.
Kayshon Boutte is unstoppable.

It's been nearly a month since Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce got married at Madison Square Garden. Several notable celebrities from the world of sports and entertainment were invited to the grand event.
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle was also in attendance, and during a recent appearance on NBC, the 32-year-old said that he was there to 'bring vibes.' Kittle justified his role by wearing a 'Dumb and Dumber' inspired outfit with Robert Tonyan.
"Me and Rob Tonyan went to 'Dumb and Dumber'. We gave Travis a heads up," Kittle said. "The best part of it was we changed backstage, and the first person that we saw walking out was Travis and Taylor, and they both just broke out laughing at us."
"I was invited to that wedding to bring vibes and have a good time and party. So, we fulfilled our side of the bargain."
Even though it's been almost a month since their marriage, Kelce and Swift have not released wedding pictures for their fans. The fans are also waiting for more details about the big event.

It has already been a few weeks since Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift got married inside Madison Square Garden in New York City. The wedding was a star-studded affair, with some of the biggest names in sports and music in attendance, and some of those who were there are now talking about the experience.
One of those in attendance was play-by-play announcer Joe Buck, who revealed that Kelce was very emotional and in tears the moment his bride, Swift, walked down the aisle.
"Their vows were long, they were really well-written, they were funny, they were sweet, they were emotional, and Travis was a puddle watching his nieces come down the ramp and when she (Taylor) walked out, he was a puddle," Buck said on Starkville podcast.
Buck noted that there was a very real wedding atmosphere going on, saying that "it felt like they were really getting married" and not just a "ceremonial thing."

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding may just have had the most instances of stars being starstruck by other stars on a single night ever recorded, given how many A-listers were in attendance. "The most surprising thing I saw at the wedding was Tom Cruise," the comedian told host Andy Cohen and fellow guest Kevin Hart on the Monday (July 27) episode. "I got to talk to Tom Cruise, and he grew up in a house full of women, and we got to relate about that."

We have just reached half-time in Real Madrid's second pre-season match against Leganés. Real Madrid took to the field with the following line-up: Lunin, Alexander-Arnold, Huijsen, Asencio, Carreras, Camavinga, Valverde, Güler, Mastantuono, Ciria (Castilla), García. Attendance at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano was restricted to journalists and staff, with new signing Denzel Dumfries amongst the few spectators.
After a slow start to proceedings, with Madrid maintaining possession at almost walking-speed – we ended up seeing a good amount of action. Arda Güler linked up with Fede Valverde for the first chance of the game, but the Uruguayan could not get his toe to the delicate pass. The same combination would later open the scoring, this time with a combination along the floor allowing Fede to poke the ball home. Madrid would make it two straight after a drinks break, when a trademark Trent Alexander-Arnold pass found Gonzalo García who **** ed the ball over the keeper to score. Trent was deployed very high up the pitch, and was a standout alongside Arda.
Leganés did pull a goal back with an unstoppable effort that left Andriy Lunin and his defence mesmerised. A great first-half test against a strong second division side – with the score currently reading 2-1 to the hosts ahead of the second period. Changes are expected at the break. Check out our socials for coverage for the remainder of the game.

Even though the pads aren't on yet, the competition in training camp is heating up. The Los Angeles Rams held their second practice at LMU on Monday and a handful of players stood out in a positive way – including two young guys who are trying to make their mark on the 53-man roster.
Based on reports from camp, here are four players who performed well in Monday's practice.
The Rams traded up for Daniels in the sixth round of the draft this year and they may have found their latest Day 3 gem. The former Miami receiver drew high praise from reporters in attendance, as well as his head coach Sean McVay. Stu Jackson of TheRams.com noted that Daniels "caught just about every target thrown his way on Monday" while working with the second-team offense.
McVay said Daniels has "done a good job and called him a "mature rookie" with a "no-nonsense mentality." And with guys like Puka Nacua and Davante Adams to learn from, McVay likes the potential of the rookie wideout.
"So it's a great group, but I'm excited about CJ and he'll be another guy when you talk about the importance of the preseason, he'll be a guy I'm looking forward to watching play and obviously in these practice settings as well," McVay said.

Denver Broncos football has officially returned.
Denver's veterans are reporting to Broncos Park Powered by CommonSpirit today (July 28) after rookies arrived at the team's new facility last week. Last year, the club had a three-day acclimation period leading up to training camp after veterans reported, and they will presumably follow a similar timeline this summer.
Denver's first official training camp practice is scheduled for Friday, July 31, with ticketed fans in attendance. Due to construction at the team's facility, capacity at practice will be limited to approximately 1,000 fans, so (free) tickets are required. All tickets were quickly claimed on July 1, but fans can check Ticketmaster for potential availability in case some tickets are returned leading up to practice.

It's no secret how badly Bayern Munich wanted to sign Nick Woltemade, but there was a ceiling to what they were willing to pay in order to get him. Apparently, that ceiling was offensive to VfB Stuttgart chairman Alexander Wehrle.
According to a report from Goal, Wehrle took a "swipe" at Bayern Munich during the club's annual general meeting, addressing both transfer negotiations and fan support.
Speaking to club members, Wehrle revisited the high-profile transfer saga involving the striker. Despite rumors that Woltemade had previously settled on personal terms with the Bavarian giants, Bayern's valuation peaked at €60 million, considerably less than the selling price. Stuttgart held firm on their evaluation of at least €75 million for the attacker before eventually reaching an agreement with Newcastle United, who met, and exceeded, their asking price. Wehrle dismissed any notion that Stuttgart was acting out of spite towards Bayern, explaining that the financial proposal from Munich amounted to little more than "a ****** er pretzel."
The Stuttgart executive also took a direct jab at the atmosphere created by the traveling support from Munich. Reflecting on their DFB-Pokal final clash in May, Wehrle claimed that their supporters completely dominated the stadium, and that he couldn't hear any Bayern fans in attendance.
Stuttgart's firm negotiating stance ultimately secured a record fee from the Magpies. But on the other hand, Wehrle's cheeky comments regarding fan noise were clearly designed to rally the local faithful, after his statements were met with "thunderous applause."

The New England Patriots are set to begin training camp on Saturday. Gates open at 9:15 a.m. ET, and practice starts at 10:15 a.m. ET.
Practices will be located on the upper grass fields directly behind Gillette Stadium. Attendance is completely free to the public, and general parking is also free during the public practice days. There will be 13 training camp dates in total for fans to watch live.
This will be the 24th consecutive year of the team hosting the camp at Gillette Stadium.
It will be the start of the Patriots' quest to get back to the Super Bowl after falling short against the Seattle Seahawks last season. They've made strides in improving the offense significantly by adding top talent in the offseason, like wide receiver A.J. Brown, wide receiver Romeo Doubs, guard Alijah Vera-Tucker and rookie offensive tackles, Caleb Lomu and Damtrious Crownover.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Patriots signed veteran All-Pro safety Kevin Byard, along with using their second-round draft pick on rookie Gabe Jacas. All eyes will be on the Patriots to see if the magical 2025 run was a fluke or if the team picks back up where it left off last season.

At this moment in tennis, the three biggest names on the men's side are Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. None of them will be in attendance for this year's National Bank Open in Montreal, which is in theory a mandatory tournament.
Tennis Canada confirmed Friday that Sinner and Djokovic have withdrawn from the tournament, roughly one week before its start date on Aug. 1. Alcaraz was already known to be out with the wrist injury that has sidelined him since clay season.
It is the second straight year Sinner and Djokovic have skipped the tournament.
Sinner has played only one tournament (his successful Wimbledon ******* le defense) since his cramp-induced crashout at Roland-Garros in May. He didn't cite a specific injury or health reason for the withdrawal:
"After carefully considering all the factors together with my team, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw from Montreal," Sinner explained in a statement. "It is never easy to miss such an important event, but we believe this is the right decision to prioritise my health. I'm disappointed not to be there, but I look forward to returning to Montreal in the future."

At SEC media days, plenty of teams got people up to speed on what's going on with their programs. Georgia Bulldogs head football coach Kirby Smart was in attendance as expected, and he gave an injury update on starting defensive lineman Gabe Harris.
“Gabe’s been doing good," Smart said. "He’s similar to Drew (Bobo). It was a very significant injury. Those two were the two biggest missing pieces for us towards the end of the year and made it really tough. But he’s out there doing everything now. He did not do anything in the spring. And we need him to have a big year. But, yeah, he’s on a load-management deal, so he’s not like out there every day doing everything. But he’s healthy."
Harris injured his toe last season in the SEC championship against Alabama, then he got turf toe surgery, which held him out of the Sugar Bowl against Mississippi. Harris missed Georgia's 2026 spring practice in late March and early April. Harris has been a key player for the Bulldogs' defense, racking up 26 tackles, 6 1/2 of which were for loss, and a sack in 2025. He's expected to be in a bigger role in 2026, especially after Auburn transfer Amaris Williams tore his ACL in spring practice.
If Harris can be healthy for Georgia's Sept. 5 season opener against Tennessee State, then that would be ideal.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JULY 17: Flavor Flav (C), Rhiannon Rae Ellis (2R) and Team USA members Alexandra Carpenter (L) and Hilary Knight (R) attend a private Team USA Athletes Only Dinner featuring top celebrity female chefs and hosted by Flavor Flav during Flavor Flav's SHE Weekend at the new Westoria Restaurant inside The Cosmopolitan on July 17, 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic for ABA)
For years, the conversation surrounding women’s sports has centered on one word: equality. Flavor Flav is demonstrating another word leaders should consider: investment.
For many fans, Flavor Flav will forever be remembered as Public Enemy's energetic hype man, a 2013 Rock N Roll Hall of Fame inductee, the larger-than-life personality behind the iconic clock necklace, or the star of reality television's Flavor of Love.
But this past weekend, the Public Enemy co-founder brought more than one hundred Gold, Silver, and Bronze medalists from Team USA’s Women Olympic and Paralympic programs to Las Vegas for SHE Weekend—short for Sports, Hospitality and Entertainment— for a four-day celebration designed to give America’s female athletes something many had rarely experienced at this scale: a victory celebration built specifically around them. I went to experience it for myself, and it was incredible.
The weekend included a parade on the Las Vegas Strip, front-row seats to a private concert from Public Enemy, receiving keys to the Las Vegas Strip, and attendance to the Backstreet Boys’ Sphere residency, where Team USA Medal winners received an onstage acknowledgment. This was in addition to a slate of curated dinners and programming talks from executives across the spectrum.

NEW YORK — The boos were deafening.
WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert was at center court inside Barclays Center. The New York Liberty had just beaten the Las Vegas Aces in the in-season tournament named after her job **** le, and as she took the mic to congratulate the team and announce the MVP, her voice was drowned out almost entirely.
It wasn’t the first time Engelbert was greeted with this level of public disdain. Over the last 12 months, the reception Engelbert has received has grown increasingly hostile, dating back to last year’s All-Star game in Indianapolis, when fans chanted “pay them” as she attempted to deliver her post-game speech. She was heckled again during the 2025 WNBA Finals trophy ceremony.
Since becoming commissioner in 2019, Engelbert has led the WNBA into its most successful era. She brokered two transformational collective bargaining agreements, guided the league through an unprecedented pandemic season in 2020, and helped facilitate the sale of the Atlanta Dream from an owner, Kelly Loeffler, who opposed the league’s public support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
The growth of the league has been astronomical — a new media rights deal valued at $2.2 billion at the time has grown to $3 billion, according to reports. The league has expanded to 15 teams and will reach 18 by 2030, with expansion fees that have lined the pockets of the existing owners. Record-breaking viewership and attendance have led to historic revenue targets.

Donald Trump hosted the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers at the White House on Thursday for the team's second trip to the White House in two years.
The team gave the president a custom jersey and a World Series championship ring during a ceremony at the Rose Garden. Four-time MVP Shohei Ohtani, star first baseman Freddie Freeman, World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto and manager Dave Roberts were among those in attendance, while several players – most notably star shortstop Mookie Betts and utility man Kike Hernández – opted not to attend.
Related: As Dodgers head to White House, loyal fans are conflicted: 'Trump is tearing this city apart'
"Special winners, unbelievable," Trump said. "I would not be surprised to see them back here again."
In remarks that also included lengthy tangents on former Yankees owner George Steinbrenner and the renovation of the Rose Garden, Trump complimented several Dodgers players while also confusing the roles of some others. He made a lengthy comparison between Ohtani and legendary slugger Babe Ruth, and praised Clayton Kershaw, the Dodgers ace who pitched an inning of last year's epic World Series Game 3 win over the Blue Jays in 18 innings.

Before players report for training camp on Saturday, the Los Angeles Rams are treating season ticket members to a special event at SoFi Stadium on Thursday night. It’s a “Rams Revealed Live” show at the YouTube Theater within SoFi, where Matthew Stafford, Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie will all be in attendance, as will team executives.
At this event, the Rams will reveal not one new uniform, but two. They’ll unveil the two alternate uniforms they’ve been teasing, which will join their three other jerseys in the wardrobe to give them five total for 2026.
The team hasn’t shared any details about what the uniforms will look like, but players sure seem excited about them – and it appears at least one uniform will be getting a new helmet.
Here’s everything you need to know for tonight’s unveiling.
“Rams Revealed Live” begins at 6:30 p.m. PT, so the uniforms will be revealed at some point during the show. It’s unclear exactly what time they will pull back the curtain, though.

Mark Pope needs to make a statement with the 2027 recruiting class.
After getting two homegrown, top-25 prospects in the 2025 class, and going o-fer on top-100 prospects in the 2026 class, Pope has already secured a commit from five-star Ryan Hampton and has cast a wide net to build the rest of the class.
One specific player the Wildcats are making a push for is point guard Reese Alston, the 3rd-ranked point guard and 8th-ranked overall prospect. He is also the son of former NBA player Rafer Alston, also known as streetball legend “Skip to My Lou.”
Alston has been on Kentucky’s radar since last summer, with the Wildcats extending an offer to him last October. As the summer grassroots circuits come to a close, they are making a strong push for him.
Playing in Puma’s Pro16 circuit, smaller than Nike’s EYBL or Adidas’ 3SSB, Alston takes notice of the coaches who are there to watch him play. Mark Pope was in attendance to watch him last week, and ******* istant Mikhail McLean, who attended the same high school as Alston (Houston Second Baptist HS), has attended multiple Puma Pro16 events this spring/summer.

The 2026 World Cup saw records broken in viewership and attendance as football fans from across the globe descended on the United States, Canada and Mexico for 104 matches. Spain won its second men's World Cup after a summer that featured countless storylines. A quick glance in the streets of social media at any given moment of the tournament saw new fans asking "Which Premier League team should I support?"
Not La Liga. Not Serie A. Not Liga MX. Not MLS.
There's a reason that the Premier League, or the Prem, is the one that people want to be a part of. There were 182 EPL players in the World Cup, making it the league with the most players in the competition. It is the most-watched soccer league in the world, being broadcast to 189 countries in 1.2 billion homes, the organization reports.
To capitalize on the hype surrounding soccer, or as many in the U.S. are now calling it, football, the Premier League will host an activation called "Coast to Coast" on opening weekend of the 2026-2027 season from Friday, Aug. 21 to Monday, Aug. 24. There will be free watch parties across the United States in partnership with NBC with opportunities to engage with each club. The EPL has done other pop-ups and fan fests across the pond before, such as Premier League Mornings Live and the MLS All-Star Game has been played against various clubs. But this is the first time that all 20 clubs will be highlighted.
"We think now is an opportunity to be able to say, 'Hey, if you enjoyed (the World Cup), come and watch the best of the best competing every week in our league and the biggest clubs in the world," Akash Jain, Premier League U.S. Managing Director, told USA TODAY Sports.

Pete Golding was in attendance at SEC Media Days on Wednesday and spoke with reporters.
He gave a passionate speech about tampering in college football, but his more interesting answer was about how he approached quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and running back Kewan Lacy about staying with the Rebels after former head coach Lane Kiffin infamously left for LSU.
Golding’s quote was targeted at Kiffin, but more in the eyes of creating a legacy and what it means for the players’ future, per ESPN’s David Hale.
“Football’s gonna end. What are you going to use? You gotta use an alumni base to be able to get you a job. Where are you gonna bring your kids to? What jersey are they wearing?
Y’all two created a legacy in one season that’s gonna be hard for anybody to overtake, and for what’s going on now, for Coach Kiffin to leave — go Google Lane Kiffin. I had them both do it in my office. Google Lane Kiffin, the dude they’d have built a statue of here three days ago. Google his name right now. They wouldn’t ******* on him if he was on fire.

AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:AMC) jumped 16% in premarket trading on Monday after reporting record second-quarter revenue and a surprise adjusted profit. Revenue reached $1.60 billion, compared with the $1.47 billion expected by **** ysts, while adjusted earnings came in at 14 cents per share instead of the expected 6-cent loss.
The quarter provides the strongest evidence yet that movie theaters are recovering from the pandemic and Hollywood labor disruptions. Whether that recovery translates into lasting value for AMC shareholders is a more complicated question.
In detail, AMC's revenue increased 14.2% from a year earlier to $1.60 billion. Adjusted EBITDA climbed nearly 70% to $321.4 million, marking the first time the company generated more than $300 million of adjusted EBITDA in a single quarter. The company's adjusted EBITDA margin expanded to 20.1% from 13.6% a year earlier.
Attendance increased 13.5% to 71.3 million customers during the quarter. U.S. attendance rose 12%, while international attendance increased 17.9%. Admissions revenue advanced to $863.1 million, and food and beverage revenue climbed to $576.1 million.
The broader domestic box office grew 10.7% to approximately $2.99 billion during the quarter, its best performance in seven years. AMC's domestic revenue increased 13%, suggesting the company grew slightly faster than the overall market.

The success of the 2026 World Cup in the United States wasn't defined only by the USMNT's performance on the pitch, but by the growth of the sport in the country where American football is king. The United States was a co-host of the tournament with Mexico and Canada.
Former USMNT stars Tim Howard and Landon Donovan were prepared to **** ist fans old and new with the nuances of the beautiful game through their "Unfiltered Soccer" podcast, which has 92,000 subscribers on YouTube and releases a new episode every Tuesday on major streaming platforms. The two National Soccer Hall of Famers were teammates for several years and played together at the 2010 World Cup, where Donovan famously had the stoppage time goal against Algeria to send the side to the round of 16. It was the last time the United States won their group before doing so again this summer.
This year, the USMNT was kicked out of the round of 16 via a 4-1 dismantling at the hands of Belgium, the team that the United States lost to in the 2014 tournament and Howard had his record 16 saves. The recent match had added tension around a rescinded red card to the United States' leading scorer Folarin Balogun. It had an audience of 30 million viewers on FOX, which made it the most-watched soccer telecast in United States history.
"I think this was a successful World Cup for our US men's national team on the field," Howard said in an interview with USA TODAY Sports. "I do. They did some really good things, and of course, stumbling at that hurdle hurts. It was always going to hurt whenever whenever the team went out. But they could be proud of themselves, and they had a really good tournament."
The World Cup, which had an added round with the expanded field of 48 teams, broke the attendance record in group play and finished with 6.8 million fans watching a match in person. Spain won its first men's World Cup since 2010 and Kylian Mbappé was the first player to win the Golden Boot back-to-back. The French star broke the record for most World Cup goals all-time, which was first passed by Lionel Messi during the tournament.

Of the many shocking moments in Michigan State athletics this decade, perhaps the most surprising was the decision of MSU basketball star Tre Holloman to leave Michigan State by way of the transfer portal for NC State. Holloman was a beloved Spartan, and MSU fans were in uproar over the decision in what became an extremely divisive moment in MSU basketball history.
Now, Tre Holloman is back in Lansing, where he lives and raises his daughter, and was in attendance at this week's Moneyball Pro-Am. Naturally, Holloman was asked about the decision to leave, along with a potential return if the NCAA allows players like him and Jaxon Kohler to have one more year of eligibility.
Holloman laughed and said 'no comment' when asked if he regretted his decision to leave, and said that if there was a good plan for him at MSU, he would love to come back for one more season if he had the chance. You can watch the full clip below:
