The financial unraveling of Jon Venetos' Lurin Capital is now the subject of a Federal Bureau of Investigation probe.
An email sent to an investor from the FBI's Dallas Division shared with The Real Deal revealed that the agency has opened an investigation into Venetos, Lurin Capital and **** ociated entities. The note provided an email address through which victims can provide comments and ask questions: LurinVictimsfbi.gov.
The Real Deal also obtained a public link to an FBI form **** led "Lurin Investigation Questionnaire" seeking information from "possible victim" investors. The form asks for details about investors' contributions and any distributions received.
The company's downfall has been punctuated by claims of fraudulent dealings from lenders and former Lurin employees. Keybank accused Venetos of transferring $25,000 from his accounts with the bank to a personal account. Vista Bank accused him of falsifying account statements from the lender in an attempt to take out loans elsewhere.
In addition, a former employee who worked in property management and asked to remain anonymous claimed Lurin lied on reimbursement requests to lenders by inflating costs of repairs and submitting invoices for work that wasn't done.

Tributes began pouring in Wednesday after a news helicopter crashed in Los Angeles, leaving three people dead.
The crash occurred just before 7 p.m. local time Tuesday in the Chatsworth area of the San Fernando Valley, as the news chopper was covering a road traffic accident.
Angel City Air operated the helicopter, which was providing news coverage for NBC Los Angeles.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Pop superstar Taylor Swift was back at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday night, and sitting alongside Tom Cruise, to watch new husband Travis Kelce and his Kansas City Chiefs open the NFL season against the Denver Broncos.

While the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals, and Baltimore Ravens all left Week 1 with a win, the Browns were the victims of a 34-10 beatdown at the hand of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Philippine authorities said it could take weeks or months to identify victims of a ferry fire that killed 76 people last week.
"Most of them are already in a charred condition," Richard Allan Mangalip, a forensic specialist from the Philippine National Police, told reporters on Sunday. Family members have been asked to help identify victims with personal items or DNA samples.
The MV June Aster was heading from Manila to Coron in Palawan province, a popular holiday destination, when a fire started in its cargo hold and spread rapidly throughout the vessel.
Forty-three people survived the disaster, while 13 people remain unaccounted for, authorities said.

Boston College linebacker Bodie Kahoun suffered a frightening injury during the first half of the Eagles' game against Rutgers on Friday night.
Kahoun was injured while helping make a tackle and appeared to absorb contact to the head and upper body as another Boston College defender arrived to ***** ist on the play. He remained down on the field for several minutes while members of Boston College's medical staff attended to him.
The game was temporarily halted as Kahoun received treatment. He was eventually stretchered into an ambulance that had driven onto the field. ESPN's broadcast showed him giving a thumbs-up as he was loaded into the ambulance.

Friday marked the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York City. And the two Major League Baseball teams who played a role in the city's emotional recovery met at Yankee Stadium to commemorate the occasion, allowing fans to remember and pay tribute to all those affected by what happened 25 years ago.
Both the New York Yankees and New York Mets wore first responder caps paying tribute to the FDNY and NYPD.
Earlier in the day, Yankees manager Aaron Boone was joined by Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole to lay a wreath beside a plaque in Yankee Stadium's Monument Park paying tribute to the victims and heroes of 9/11.

This weekend marks a solemn anniversary in our nation's history. 25 years ago on September 11, 2001, the United States was attacked by terrorists that hijacked commercial airlines and flew them into both towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. On Saturday, both the Texas Longhorns and Ohio State Buckeyes will honor that tragedy on their helmets.
It has been called this generation's Pearl Harbor. 9/11 is a day that everyone remembers exactly what they were doing when they found out America had been attacked. 2,977 died as a result of the terrorist attacks. The horrific memories are vivid even now. Every year, there are remembrances on the anniversary. But this year is different. 25 years is a grim milestone of morning that changed the world forever.

ALLEN PARK — Twenty-five years have passed, and Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell still vividly recalls the feelings of being loved yet helpless and confused.
At that time, he was the starting tight end for the New York Giants when the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks occurred. Like the rest of the nation, Campbell struggled to cope with the aftermath, experiencing a profound sense of grief. However, in just a few days, Campbell felt as though he had witnessed both the worst and the best of humanity.
"It's something you never forget. In the middle of a tragedy — especially in New York, where they're in a hurry. That happened, and everybody pitched in to help. They just wanted to help and do whatever it takes," Campbell said. "Anybody who was up there at that time, even wanting to go help, to get into the city after that, that took a lot just to get up there. Sean "Diddy" Combs landed a major win in his defamation case against attorney Ariel Mitchell and her client Courtney Burgess, who claimed to have videos showing the music mogul **** ually **** aulting minors and celebrities at his "freak off" **** parties.

(NewsNation) — The Juneau, Alaska, community is mourning the loss of 16-year-olds Leotis Phillips and Zoey Clark after they were found dead in the woods with a gun on Monday.
"I can't imagine the pain they were in to make this decision," Ariah Clark, a cousin of Zoey Clark, said at a candlelight vigil Tuesday, according to the Juneau Independent. The outlet reported that more than 150 friends, family and teachers gathered at Clark's high school for the vigil, near where the teens' bodies were found.

A woman randomly stabbed two people in New York City's Times Square on Monday, killing one woman, and then was fatally shot by police, according to officials.
The shooting happened just before 4:30 p.m. next to a New York Police Department substation, just outside One Times Square, the building that hosts the city's annual New Year's Eve ball drop celebration. It is one of the most heavily touristed and policed spots in all of New York.
The 49-year-old woman from Queens pulled out two knives from a shopping bag and stabbed a 68-year-old man who had just come out of the subway station and was waiting to cross the street with his wife, striking him in the abdomen, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a news conference.
Seconds later, the woman stabbed a 32-year-old woman also in the abdomen, Tisch said. Both victims were taken to the hospital. The woman died and the man is in stable condition, according to police.
Police didn't say if the victims were tourists visiting the city or residents.

WASHINGTON, Aug 28 (Reuters) - U.S. officials are correcting earlier statements that several government agencies were hacked by Chinese hackers, now saying that the organizations were among the hackers' targets.
In a newly edited statement, the Department of Justice said on Friday that the U.S. Senate, the Federal Reserve, NASA and others were "among the targets of QTFY," a Chinese state-sponsored hacking group that officials identified on Wednesday during an internet domain seizure operation.
A previous version of the statement said the government agencies had been among the hackers' victims.
A note left at the bottom of the newly edited statement said that "Edits have been made to ensure this press release accurately reflects the government's allegations in the affidavit in support of the domain seizures."
