The bond-market rout of 2026 may be jolting markets, but it's also gaining a important following among savers and the risk-averse.
Wall Street has been gripped by the volatile moves in bond yields over the past few weeks. The all-important 10-year Treasury yield BX:TMUBMUSD10Y was up another 3.4 basis points on Monday to 5.35%, it highest level since April 2002, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
My wife never went back to work after raising our kids. Do I have to share my retirement savings 50/50?
Go ahead and get that poetry degree. Republican law won't prevent people with humanities majors from getting student loans.
That's raised the costs of new mortgages, corporate borrowing and financing the $40 trillion national debt. It also has many bond portfolios sitting in a sea of red ink for 2026, with the bond market's equivalent of the S&P 500 SPX — the Bloomberg U.S. Aggregate Index's — total return having turned negative. Bond yields and prices move in the opposite direction.

Targa Resources Corp. (NYSE:TRGP) has significantly outperformed the wider market this year, posting gains of over 56% since the beginning of 2026. A major catalyst behind this growth was the 20-year fee-based agreement that the company signed with ExxonMobil last month.
While there are concerns that the stock's rally may have topped out, the **** ysts over at TD Cowen see further growth ahead. On September 18, the firm upgraded TRGP from 'Hold' to Buy', while also boosting its price target from $275 to $350. The revised target implies an upside of almost 20% from the current levels and even exceeds the stock's record high of just under $308 achieved last month.
TD Cowen cited Targa's expected Permian Basin wet gas growth and peer-leading EBITDA growth for the upgrade. The **** yst expects the company's free cash flow yield to rise from 6% in 2026 to more than 10% in 2028, compared with an estimated 8.5% FCF yield for peers in 2030. The improvement is expected to be driven by EBITDA growth from new processing plants and the completion of a major capital project in the Speedway NGL pipeline.
According to TD Cowen, a key driver for Targa's growth is the rising wet gas production in the Permian, which means that the **** yst's thesis is tied to physical volume growth rather than simply a higher-commodity price **** umption.
Targa's recently announced deal with ExxonMobil provides greater visibility into future volumes and infrastructure demand. The company has also planned three new natural gas processing plants in the Permian Delaware as part of the deal, with an aggregate capacity of roughly 825 MMcf/day. Targa expects this agreement to add significantly to its "strong growth rate well into the next decade and bolster its outlook for durable and growing adjusted free cash flow over the long term".

Billionaire Ray Dalio's Bridgewater **** ociates has disclosed several new picks in its Q2 filings. In this article, we are going to focus on two non-AI stocks in which the fund opened new stakes in the June quarter.
Vulcan Materials Company (NYSE:VMC) is the larger of the two. Bridgewater bought about 108,700 shares worth roughly $32.1 million, a 0.13% portfolio weight. Toy company Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ:HAS) was another notable new pick as the fund bought a stake worth about $20.8 million in the company.
Let's focus on VMC in this article and see whether the stock is a decent buy-the-dip opportunity. It's down about 14% so far this year.
Vulcan Materials is a major producer of construction aggregates in the US. Aggregates are crushed stone, sand and gravel, the base material under roads, bridges, foundations and parking lots. Demand for these materials comes from public infrastructure, private non-residential and residential projects.

Royalty Pharma plc (NASDAQ:RPRX) disclosed that pelacarsen failed the Phase 3 Lp(a)HORIZON cardiovascular-outcomes trial conducted by Novartis AG (NYSE:NVS). The randomized, double-blind study enrolled 8,323 patients with elevated lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), and established cardiovascular disease.
Pelacarsen lowered Lp(a), but the study did not meet its primary endpoint of reducing cardiovascular events compared with placebo in the overall population. The endpoint combined cardiovascular death, nonfatal heart attack, nonfatal stroke, and urgent coronary revascularization requiring hospitalization. Complete results have not yet been presented.
Royalty Pharma plc (NASDAQ:RPRX) provided Ionis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:IONS) with $500 million in January 2023. The transaction allocated $150 million to pelacarsen royalties and $350 million to Spinraza royalties. The clinical failure shifts the financial focus from uncertain pelacarsen upside to recovery through Spinraza.
Royalty Pharma plc (NASDAQ:RPRX) acquired 25% of the Spinraza royalties received by Ionis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:IONS) through 2027. That share increases to 45% in 2028 on Spinraza annual sales of up to $1.5 billion.
Following the HORIZON result, the Spinraza interest will revert after aggregate payments to Royalty Pharma plc (NASDAQ:RPRX) reach $550 million, equal to 1.1 times the original funding. Management expects the structure to recover the entire investment and generate a modest positive return despite the clinical failure.

Cienciano del Cusco made a statement in the first leg of the 2026 Copa Sudamericana quarter-finals.
The imperial side made the most of the more than 3,300 meters of altitude at their home ground and defeated Montevideo City Torque, taking a valuable lead in the continental tie.
From the start of the match at the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega Stadium, the Peruvian side set a relentless pace to suffocate the Uruguayan team. With high pressing and constant ball movement, Cienciano turned its superiority into goals and controlled the key moments of the match.
With this favorable result at home, 'Papá' will travel to Montevideo with the comfort of holding the advantage on aggregate. The return leg will decide who advances to the semi-finals of the South American tournament.

Arcosa, Inc. (NYSE:ACA) shareholders approved the proposed acquisition by CRH plc (NYSE:CRH) on September 4. The merger agreement received 39,595,867 votes in favor, compared with 66,113 against and 16,786 abstentions. Approximately 39.7 million shares, representing 80.8% of shares outstanding as of the record date, were present or represented by proxy.
The vote satisfies a major condition for the all-cash transaction. CRH plc (NYSE:CRH) agreed to pay $150 per share, valuing Arcosa, Inc. (NYSE:ACA) at an enterprise value of approximately $8.5 billion. The companies continue to expect a first-quarter 2027 closing, subject to required regulatory approvals and other customary conditions.
CRH plc (NYSE:CRH) described the valuation as 11.5 times estimated 2026 adjusted EBITDA, a company-defined non-GAAP measure, including $175 million of targeted annual run-rate cost synergies expected by year three. CRH plc (NYSE:CRH) defines adjusted EBITDA as earnings from continuing operations before interest, taxes, depreciation, depletion and amortization, with exclusions for impairments, divestitures and investments, equity-method results, substantial acquisition costs and specified pension items.
The result removes the principal seller-side approval risk. The merger no longer depends on another shareholder meeting, and support was decisive among the shares represented. Financing appears less exposed than regulatory clearance: CRH plc (NYSE:CRH) plans to use available cash and committed debt financing, while completion is not subject to a financing condition.
The strategic rationale is tangible. Arcosa, Inc. (NYSE:ACA) would add 109 quarries and yards, nine asphalt plants, 19 terminals and approximately 35 million tons of 2025 aggregates shipments. CRH plc (NYSE:CRH) expects more than 265 million tons of combined annualized aggregates production. Arcosa, Inc. (NYSE:ACA) also brings engineered structures serving grid modernization, electrification and data-center construction.

How Sabah coach Valdas Dambrauskas went from Lithuanian game show to Champions League history originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
One of the most fascinating stories to come out of the early phases of this year's UEFA Champions League competition involves newly-formed Azerbaijani club Sabah FK and their mercurial coach.
Valdas Dambrauskas has led the young club to not only its first-ever top flight ***** le, but now their first-ever trip to the league phase of any European competition, let alone the Champions League.
Sabah became one of the final league phase qualifiers in the 2026/27 competition as they reversed a 2-1 aggregate deficit to Hapoel Be'er Sheva in the final qualifying round, winning the second leg 5-2 in a stunning comeback. Trailing 4-3 on aggregate heading into stoppage time of the second leg, Tellur Mutallimov scored in the 94th minute to send the match to extra-time, where they would win the game with a pair of goals in the added period.
That sent Sabah to the lucrative league phase, which has changed the trajectory of the club forever.

MongoDB, Inc. (NASDAQ:MDB) reported fiscal second-quarter revenue of $771.8 million, up 30% year over year. Atlas revenue increased approximately 29% to $565.9 million, while Enterprise Advanced and other revenue rose approximately 36% to $181.2 million.
Remaining performance obligations, or RPO, increased 91% to $1.52 billion. RPO represents the aggregate transaction price in contracts allocated to performance obligations not delivered or partially undelivered. MongoDB, Inc. (NASDAQ:MDB) omits contracts lasting 12 months or less from the disclosure. Current RPO, the portion expected to be recognized within 12 months, increased 73% to $797.3 million.
GAAP operating income reached $28.4 million, compared with a $65.3 million loss a year earlier. MongoDB, Inc. (NASDAQ:MDB) also raised fiscal 2027 revenue guidance to $2.99 billion to $3.03 billion from $2.92 billion to $2.96 billion, with the second-half increase attributed mainly to Atlas.
Growth was broad. Atlas expanded 29%, while Enterprise Advanced and other revenue grew faster at 36%. Total customers increased to more than 70,600 from more than 59,900 a year earlier, and Atlas customers reached more than 69,300.
The margin profile also improved. GAAP gross margin expanded to 74% from 71%, while revenue growth outpaced operating-expense growth enough to produce positive GAAP operating income. This shows MongoDB, Inc. (NASDAQ:MDB) can scale infrastructure, research and sales costs more slowly than revenue.

Aston Villa begin their 2026-27 Champions League campaign at Club Brugge on Tuesday, returning to continental football for the first time since winning the Europa League in Istanbul four months ago.
The Belgian champions, who have reached the knockout stage in each of their last three European campaigns, provide an early test for a Villa squad still adjusting to a heavy summer rebuild.
Tuesday's meeting is the fourth between these clubs in two years. Brugge won the earlier league-phase fixture 1-0 in Belgium during 2024-25, but Villa gained revenge in the round of 16, winning 6-1 on aggregate courtesy of a 3-1 victory in Bruges followed by a 3-0 win at Villa Park.
Both clubs sold key players for significant fees over the summer, with Villa losing Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Ezri Konsa and Emiliano Martínez; Brugge have adapted more quickly, sitting second in the Belgian Pro League after four wins from five matches, while Villa have collected only a single point from their opening three Premier League games and remain without a league goal this season.

On August 4, Voya Financial (NYSE:VOYA) announced its second-quarter 2026 results, and the headline numbers tell an uncomfortable story. Net income available to common shareholders dropped to $90 million, or $0.97 per diluted share, down from $162 million and $1.66 a year earlier. Adjusted operating earnings fell just as sharply, to $140 million from $240 million. Yet look past the income statement and Voya's underlying businesses were adding client ******* ets, growing fee income, and returning cash to shareholders at a steady pace.
Voya's Retirement business crossed 10 million participant accounts during the quarter, a milestone that arrived alongside the completed integration of OneAmerica. Total client ******* ets in that segment reached $863 billion as of June 30, up 14% from $757 billion a year earlier, and fee-based revenues climbed 10% year over year. Investment Management told a similar story. Pre-tax adjusted operating earnings there rose 12% to $57 million, helped by $1.2 billion of net inflows during the quarter that pushed ******* ets under management to $377 billion, up from $360 billion a year ago.
Assets under advisory grew even faster, reaching $63 billion from $54 billion. Margins widened too, up 100 basis points on a trailing twelve-month basis to 29.0%. Employee Benefits, often the company's most volatile segment, showed real underwriting progress: the total aggregate loss ratio improved to 74% from 79% a year earlier, lifting its trailing twelve-month margin to 11.0% from just 3.7%. None of that came at the expense of shareholders. Voya generated roughly $150 million of excess capital in the quarter, more than fully converting its adjusted operating earnings into deployable cash, and returned about $200 million through dividends and buybacks, with $263 million still authorized for future repurchases.
The drop in profitability traces to specific, identifiable costs. Corporate reported pre-tax adjusted operating losses of $102 million, up from $67 million a year earlier, largely because of roughly $40 million in severance tied to efficiency actions. A $15 million pre-tax loss on alternative investments added further pressure. Those same alternative investment declines hit Retirement directly: pre-tax adjusted operating earnings there fell to $190 million from $235 million, even as fee revenue grew, because lower alternative investment income and planned strategic investment spending offset the gains. Employee Benefits saw the sharpest swing, with pre-tax adjusted operating earnings falling to $22 million from $69 million.

Looking at the top 20 of the past two Ballon d'Or votes, one name is conspicuously missing: Enzo Fernández.
So far, the Argentine has never really played a major role in the World Player of the Year vote, and yet Manchester City paid Chelsea around €145 million for the midfielder just a few days ago. Have they made a huge mistake?
Okay, ever since Robert Lewandowski failed to win the Ballon d'Or in 2021 at the latest, we've known that things do not always go entirely fairly in that vote. Even so, there have recently been quite a few players who clearly performed better than Fernández.
Chelsea's chief orchestrator led the Blues to a disappointing tenth-place finish last season. In the Champions League, the London club crashed out heavily against PSG in the round of 16 (2:8 on aggregate). And now he is supposed to lead the Sky Blues to **** les on both the domestic and international stage?
Of course, City did not sign Fernández entirely without reason. The 25-year-old possesses enormous playmaking qualities. His vision, passing ability, and finishing quality in particular are in some ways strongly reminiscent of City legend Kevin De Bruyne.

Soluna Holdings reported second-quarter revenue of $15.1 million, up 145% year over year. That headline needs an important qualification. A change in accounting presentation moved roughly $4.4 million of pass-through electricity costs from a net presentation to both revenue and cost of revenue, without changing profit or loss. Excluding that change, revenue grew 73% year over year and 13% sequentially. Soluna Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:SLNH) therefore delivered substantial growth, but not all of the reported increase reflected new economic activity.
The quarter also should not be treated as proof that the AI pivot is already producing revenue. Project Dorothy 1A generated $2.9 million of revenue, up 31% sequentially, and $795,000 of gross profit at a 28% margin, but that improvement came from Bitcoin-mining customers, including Blockware and Canaan. Management said Bitcoin-miner hosting remains its largest business today. The AI and high-performance-computing opportunity is prospective. That distinction matters because AI leases can carry different capital needs, construction schedules, and customer requirements from cryptocurrency hosting.
That opportunity is nevertheless large. As of August 1, Soluna reported a roughly 6.3-gigawatt overall pipeline, including more than 1.6 gigawatts of AI data-center capacity in development. It said Hedy, Ellen, and Fei were advancing under term sheets toward a combined 583 megawatts designated for AI and HPC. The 583-megawatt figure describes their combined planned capacity, not entirely new capacity. Based on the project updates, their capacities rose by 243 megawatts in aggregate, from 340 to 583 megawatts.
A pipeline is not contracted revenue. Projects still require land, permits, interconnection, financing, equipment, and tenants before generating cash. Soluna Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:SLNH) remains a small company pursuing capital-intensive facilities, so delays or unfavorable funding could overwhelm operating progress. AI customers may also demand stronger balance sheets and long construction guarantees, while rapid share issuance could dilute per-share gains.
Hedge-fund interest increased but remained limited. Insider Monkey counted nine hedge funds holding the shares in Q2, up from six in Q1. Separately, Vident Advisory, an institutional investment adviser rather than a hedge fund, expanded its reported position by 7,772% to 5,227,200 shares. The percentage is dramatic because its prior position was small and should not be mistaken for broad sponsorship.

Andvari **** ociates, an investment management firm, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. Andvari's portfolio has performed strongly in the quarter, highlighted by Constellation Software's 19.9% revenue growth and its plans to spend on acquisitions in 2026. The company is also focusing on AI tools to enhance productivity and customer relationships. However, the AI sector is experiencing extreme hype, leading to a growing disconnect between valuations and future cash flows. Predictions suggest the AI investment phase may decline in 1-3 years, despite current high demand for AI infrastructure, which is expected to attract significant competition. Concerns about overbuilding and risky financial behaviors, like Oracle's downgraded credit rating amid a $90-$95 billion AI cloud investment, reflect potential pitfalls. Andvari has minimized exposure to this sector, aiming to protect and grow **** ets through disciplined investments in stable industries despite recent underperformance during the AI boom. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Andvari **** ociates highlighted Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. (NYSE:MLM). Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. (NYSE:MLM) is a building materials company that supplies aggregates and heavy-side building materials to the construction industry. On September 02, 2026, Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. (NYSE:MLM) closed at $517.07 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $36.72 billion. Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. (NYSE:MLM) posted a one‑month return of ‑3.94%, while its shares lost 16.46% over the past 52 weeks.
Andvari **** ociates stated the following regarding Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. (NYSE:MLM) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"All this said, Andvari does have some exposure to the AI theme. Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. (NYSE:MLM) one of the largest aggregates companies in the U.S., is also a minor beneficiary of the AI theme given robust construction activity in data centers and power generation. Texas Instruments and Martin Marietta might be getting a nice temporary **** p in profits and revenues from helping build out AI infrastructure, but AI and data center-related revenues are by no means the majority of revenues for either of these two companies."
Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. (NYSE:MLM) is not on our list of the 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds. As per our database, 67 hedge fund portfolios held Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. (NYSE:MLM) at the end of the second quarter, which was 65 in the previous quarter. While we acknowledge the potential of Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. Rafael Ribeiro / CBFCredits: Palmeiras and Vasco go after the ***** le
It's time to find out who will be the 2026 Brazilian U-20 champion. Palmeiras and Vasco face off this Friday (4), at 7 p.m. (Brasília time), at Nubank Parque, in São Paulo (SP), for the second and decisive leg of the final. After a 1-0 win in the first match at São Januário (look back here), in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Verdão takes the field with the advantage in the ***** le race.
Palmeiras' winning goal in the first game was scored by Erick Belé late in the first half. As a result, a draw is enough to secure the trophy for Verdão. If Vasco manage to win by a one-goal margin and level the aggregate score, the champion will be decided on penalties.
The advantage, however, does not mean peace of mind. Vasco showed in the first match that they can trouble their opponent and will now have 90 minutes to try to change the course of the final. The Rio side have reached the final for the first time in the history of the Brazilian U-20 Championship and need to win away from home to take the trophy back to São Januário.

Hibernian and Hearts will meet at Easter Road this evening for the first Edinburgh Derby of the season.
Both sides have enjoyed a solid start to the league season, winning two of their first three matches despite losing the other. Hearts have bounced back from their opening day defeat to Aberdeen by beating Dundee United and St. Johnstone, as well as reaching the league phase of the Europa Conference League. Meanwhile, Hibs have beaten Rangers and Dundee following their home defeat to Motherwell on opening day. They fell at the final hurdle for European qualification, losing 3-2 on aggregate to Gent.
Last season, as we all know, Hearts came incredibly close to lifting their first league ***** le since 1960, but a controversial defeat at Celtic Park on the final day of the season saw them lose out to the Hoops. Hibs enjoyed a strong season themselves, finishing fifth with 57 points, securing back-to-back top-half finishes for the first time this decade.
There were four Edinburgh Derbies last season; Hearts won three whilst Hibs won one, that being a 3-2 victory at Easter Road shortly before the turn of the year. In fact, Hearts' win in the final derby of last season was the point at which many thought they were finally going to topple the Old Firm and go on to lift the ***** le, but of course, it wasn't to be in the end.
That Hearts team has since been largely dismantled, with manager Derek McInnes and top scorer Lawrence Shankland departing for Rangers. However, Claudio Braga remains at the club and has looked just as impressive so far this term as he did last, registering a goal and two ***** ists in his first three league outings.

On August 21, Martin Marietta Materials (NYSE:MLM) completed its combination with Lhoist North America, a subsidiary of Lhoist Group and one of the country's leading producers of lime and industrial mineral products. The deal hands Martin Marietta more than 2 billion tons of high-quality limestone reserves and, according to the company, makes it the nation's leading producer of limestone products. It caps months of dealmaking that has quietly reshaped what kind of company Martin Marietta is becoming.
Lhoist North America serves steel manufacturing, infrastructure, heavy nonresidential construction and environmental solutions, markets Martin Marietta says it can now reach through a shared limestone base. Company leadership has pointed to lime's mission-critical role in steel production and water treatment, businesses that lean on Martin Marietta's expanding Specialties platform. In the second quarter, that platform delivered $152 million in revenue and $50 million in gross profit, both records, aided by the July 2025 Premier Magnesia acquisition and organic pricing gains. One example the company highlighted: its Woodville lime plant saw shipments exceed 2006 levels by 2% even as broader U.S. aggregates production stayed 25% below its prior peak, a sign of how differently lime demand behaves through a downturn.
The core aggregates business is not standing still either. Second-quarter revenue there hit $1.5 billion, up 16%, while total shipments rose 17% to 61.6 million tons on acquisitions and organic growth in the Central and West divisions. Organic shipments alone grew 2.3%, the fourth straight quarter of gains. Management raised full-year revenue guidance to a range of $7.2 billion to $7.4 billion to reflect the New Frontier Materials acquisition, while reaffirming adjusted EBITDA guidance of $2.36 billion to $2.5 billion. Data center activity in company-served markets climbed 90% year to date, warehouse construction rose 53%, and 70% of under-construction data center and manufacturing square footage sits within 55 miles of a Martin Marietta facility.
Growth has not come free. Average selling prices fell 2% on a headline basis in the second quarter, even though they rose 3.7% once adjusted for geographic mix, a gap that shows how much the picture depends on how you slice it. Reported aggregate gross profit of $418 million absorbed a $52 million noncash inventory step-up charge tied to purchase accounting, and organic cost of goods sold per ton rose 3.6%, including a 150 basis point hit from higher pass-through freight costs.

On the two-month anniversary of Juventus Women hiring Isaac Guerrero as their new head coach, the Spanish tactician got his new-look squad past the final hurdle necessary to see them qualify for the Women's Champions League league phase once again.
For some, that was going to be quite the task with so much turnover this summer and Guerrero having little time to get to work with his new team before the qualification process got underway last month.
But in front of the hometown crowd — and some very notable front office member from both the men's and women's sporting area — in Biella on Wednesday night, Guerrero's Bianconere got the result they needed, a 1-1 draw, against Austrian side St. Pölten to qualify for the UWCL league phase. Portuguese midfielder Tatiana Pinto scored Juventus Women's lone goal of the night five minutes before halftime, but it was the 3-0 victory last week in Austria that allowed the Bianconere to see out the game and claim the 4-1 advantage on aggregate in the final round of the qualification path.
And with it came a ticket into the 16-team league phase — which is in effect for a second season after they made the switch to replicate the men's setup at the beginning of last season's competition.
Juve got through the four-team mini tournament last month. They then got a much less complicated draw against St. Pölten as compared to two years ago when they had to go through a Paris Saint-Germain side that was one of the last teams standing the season prior to make the group stage.

Trabzonspor have accepted the "emotional" resignation of head coach Fatih Tekke after the Turkish side initially rejected his request to step down.
Tekke, who led Trabzonspor to a third‑place finish in the league last season, tendered his resignation after his side were knocked out of the Europa League play‑off round 5‑0 on aggregate by Hungarian club Ferencvaros.
After rejecting his request on Friday and suggesting the 48‑year‑old made the decision under the "intense emotional impact" of the Europa League exit, the Super Lig club have now agreed to part ways with their head coach.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Trabzonspor said it reached a "mutual understanding" with Tekke and decided to part ways "in line with Trabzonspor's interests and long‑term objectives".
The statement added: "Over his approximately 18‑month tenure, Fatih Tekke brought significant value to Trabzonspor.

Atlético de Madrid on Tuesday pulled out of negotiations with Olympique Lyonnais to sign veteran left-back Nicolás Tagliafico before the summer transfer window shut.
Atlético's interest in Argentina international Tagliafico first came to us via David Medina and Isaac Suárez in Marca. Atlético were seeking a backup for Alejandro Grimaldo after long negotiations for Racing Santander teenager Jorge Salinas fell apart Tuesday; Salinas is staying at Racing after no club paid his €16 million release clause.
Tagliafico had been in negotiations to join Juventus before Atlético entered the race. According to Fabrizio Romano **** ociate Matteo Moretto, Tagliafico spoke directly to Diego Simeone and prioritized a move to Atleti, having accepted his role would be as a substitute. To make room for Tagliafico and his roughly €3 million gross salary, Mateu Alemany had to clear **** e in the squad by finding new destinations for multiple players, including Josema Giménez, Thomas Lemar, Carlos Martín and Obed Vargas.
While the sporting director moved out Giménez and Lemar on deadline day, Vargas and Carlos Martín stayed. That meant Atleti could not move forward with a Tagliafico transfer, especially as Lyon could not secure a replacement. French media first reported its collapse before Spanish media corroborated later in the day.
Tagliafico, who turned 34 on Monday, has spent the previous four seasons playing for Lyon, but the French side's aggregate loss to Fenerbahçe in the UEFA Champions League play-off round last week has put it in a bind. With Champions League income lost, Lyon need to sell players, and Tagliafico — entering the final year of his contract — was poised to be one of the casualties.

MD Sass, a boutique ****** et management firm, published its second-quarter investor update for its flagship, the "MD Sass Concentrated Value Strategy." The letter can be downloaded here. In the first half of 2026, AI infrastructure stocks led the market, with the Russell 1000 Value increasing by 16.3%, outpacing the S&P 500 (10.2%) and Russell 1000 Growth (5.3%). This growth was fueled by semiconductor, memory, and hardware companies benefiting from AI development, even though they are considered cyclical. These sectors, representing only 7.7% of the Russell 1000 Value at the start of the year, contributed nearly 70% of its returns. The portfolio gained 10.0% in the second quarter, net of fees, compared to 13.9% for the Russell 1000 Value Index. Year-to-date, the strategy returned 6.6%, net of fees, versus 16.3% for the Index. The portfolio faced challenges due to limited exposure to companies with the greatest upside from AI infrastructure investments. It also lacked exposure to the Energy sector, which returned about 20% in the first half amid geopolitical tensions with Iran that increased commodity prices, affecting performance. The firm recognizes the importance of adapting its strategies while maintaining core investment principles as it explores future opportunities in emerging technological themes. "During the quarter, we initiated a position in TD SYNNEX Corporation (NYSE:SNX), one of the world's largest IT distributors and a critical intermediary between technology vendors and more than 150,000 customers across over 100 countries. Its core Distribution business aggregates hardware, software, cloud products, and services while providing inventory, financing, configuration, and technical support to resellers and systems integrators. Distribution is a low-margin business, but scale matters, and SNX is increasingly benefiting as major vendors consolidate their channel relationships around a smaller number of global partners.
The crux of our thesis, however, is Hyve Solutions, a hidden growth engine that we believe the market continues to value as part of a traditional IT distributor. Hyve, a wholly owned subsidiary of SNX, designs, manufactures, integrates, and manages th

Two new working papers circulated by the authoritative National Bureau of Economic Research show the double squeeze the U.S. dollar and the Treasury market are facing both overseas and at home.
The first, from a team of European Central Bank and Banque de France economists, show how official demand for dollar ******* ets is waning as central banks increasingly seek sanctuary in gold after Russian ******* ets were frozen following the launch of the war on Ukraine in 2022. It's a topic that has certainly been discussed, but the paper quantifies that shift, finding nonaligned countries have moved nearly one-third of total reserve portfolios away from foreign-currency claims.
'It's not fair': My twin brother and I were left houses by our parents. Can I make him pay his share for taxes and upkeep?
'I feel tricked': My contractor handed my $42,000 pool upgrade to a subcontractor I had already rejected. What can I do?
Perhaps the more intriguing new paper comes from Massachusetts Institute of Technology economist Ricardo Caballero, who talks about a safe-debt Laffer Curve. The Laffer Curve represents the theory that, at a certain level, revenue actually starts to fall rather than rise as tax rates increase. Caballero's novel idea is that, at a certain level, federal debt actually hurts aggregate demand rather than helps it.

Former Celtic midfielder Scott Allan has praised the way Martin O'Neill's side responded to their ignominious Champions League exit by beating Falkirk in the Scottish Premiership.
And Allan believes Celtic have unearthed a superstar in forward Camilo Duran, who got both goals in the 2-1 win over the Bairns.
Austrian champions LASK fought back from four goals down on aggregate as Celtic collapsed on Tuesday - but the chastened Premiership champions saw off Falkirk as they returned to the domestic agenda.
"It really was the manner in how they gave up a 4-0 lead to LASK - genuine disbelief at how that second half panned out for Celtic," Allan said on the Scottish Football podcast.
"But ultimately you have to get your chest out. Fans will still have a sour taste in their mouth about how the game went against LASK and all you can do is try and improve."

Bank of Montreal (NYSE:BMO) reported third-quarter net income of C$1.75 billion, down 25% from a year earlier, while company-defined non-GAAP adjusted net income increased 19% to C$2.86 billion. Reported diluted EPS fell 24% to C$2.38, but company-defined non-GAAP adjusted diluted EPS rose 22% to C$3.96.
The divergence primarily reflected Bank of Montreal's (NYSE:BMO) announced sale of its Transportation Finance and Vendor Finance businesses to Stonepeak. The transaction produced a C$1.09 billion pretax charge, or C$962 million after tax, primarily related to a reduction in goodwill.
Including costs **** ociated with the separate sale of 138 U.S. branches, Bank of Montreal (NYSE:BMO) reported aggregate after-tax divestiture adjustments of C$973 million. The rounded components—C$962 million and C$10 million—do not sum exactly to the reported total.
The finance-business transaction includes related loan portfolios in Canada and the United States. Bank of Montreal (NYSE:BMO) plans to retain a 19.9% equity interest, while the sale is expected to close in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
The adjusted results show that Bank of Montreal's (NYSE:BMO) operating businesses strengthened during the quarter. The bank said every business segment generated record pre-provision, pre-tax earnings, a company-defined performance measure.

Strategy Inc (NASDAQ:MSTR) rallied along with Bitcoin. The cryptocurrency rally followed a White House meeting with industry executives, while the Treasury Department's expanded bond-buyback plans lowered long-term yields and weakened the dollar.
However, Strategy Inc (NASDAQ:MSTR) is not a simple leveraged Bitcoin fund. The company held 843,775 Bitcoin on July 26, sold 1,638 Bitcoin during July 27-August 2, and another 1,690 during August 3-9, leaving 840,447 Bitcoin. That position was worth approximately $57.5 billion at Wednesday's Bitcoin price, but the figure represents gross **** et value rather than value attributable to common shareholders.
Common issuance increases gross Bitcoin per share only when the Bitcoin acquired per incremental **** umed diluted share exceeds the existing ratio. Issuing above net **** et value alone is insufficient because the share denominator and use of proceeds determine the result. Strategy Inc (NASDAQ:MSTR) reported that its company-defined Bitcoin-per-share metric increased 5% during the second quarter to 210,824 satoshis.
Strategy Inc (NASDAQ:MSTR) also had a $4.80 billion reserve as of August 16, including unsettled at-the-market offering proceeds. The reserve provides a buffer for contractual debt interest and preferred dividends when declared, although the preferred series have different terms, including **** ulative provisions for certain securities. This liquidity reduces near-term dependence on favorable Bitcoin or capital-market conditions.
Strategy Inc (NASDAQ:MSTR) reported $6.7 billion of aggregate convertible principal and a $15.5 billion aggregate preferred notional amount in May. At June 30, preferred equity had a $14.44 billion carrying amount and a $15.46 billion liquidation preference; repurchases began after quarter-end. These claims sit ahead of common equity under a basic-share valuation framework.

InterCure Ltd. (NASDAQ:INCR) finalized a NIS 230 million, or approximately $77 million, settlement with Israeli authorities covering indirect damages from the October 7, 2023 attacks and subsequent war. The more relevant figure for investors is approximately $43 million.
The $77 million represents aggregate compensation rather than a new cash payment. InterCure Ltd. (NASDAQ:INCR) previously received NIS 101 million, or approximately $34 million, in advances related to the claim. Subtracting those advances from the settlement produces NIS 129 million, or approximately $43 million, of implied remaining gross compensation.
InterCure Ltd. (NASDAQ:INCR) did not disclose when that balance would be paid or what the net cash receipt would be after any applicable adjustments. The calculation therefore measures the implied gross amount remaining under the settlement, not immediate liquidity.
The amount is nevertheless material compared with the company's financial position. InterCure Ltd. (NASDAQ:INCR) reported NIS 49 million in cash on hand as of December 31, 2025, including restricted cash. The implied NIS 129 million balance is approximately 2.6 times that historical figure. InterCure Ltd. (NASDAQ:INCR) also generated NIS 17 million in operating cash flow during 2025, although it recorded a NIS 37 million net loss.
The settlement gives InterCure Ltd. (NASDAQ:INCR) a defined compensation amount after nearly three years of uncertainty. The company intends to use its strengthened financial position to accelerate rehabilitation of Canndoc's Nir Oz cultivation and production facility, which was severely damaged during the October 2023 attacks.

Manager Martin O'Neill hopes missing out on the Champions League will not mean Celtic miss out on prospective signings.
O'Neill's side will feature in the Europa League after Tuesday's 5-1 defeat by LASK after extra time, with the Austrian side winning the Champions League play-off 5-4 on aggregate.
The Scottish Premiership holders have signed four players so far this window, which closes next week.
"I'm hoping that's not the case," O'Neill said, when asked about the possibility of missing out on players.
"We're still trying to get some players in, we would need a few in obviously to supplement the squad.

On Friday, SC Freiburg found out which teams they will face in the league phase of the Europa Conference League this season. Julian Schuster's side booked their place in today's draw after beating Motherwell FC 7-2 on aggregate.
Last season's Europa League finalists were in Pot 1. Unlike the Champions League and Europa League, there were six pots with only six league phase matchdays in the Conference League.
Freiburg's home games will be against Panathinaikos, Twente and Czechia side Jablonec. They will face AS Monaco, Mohamed Salah's Trabzonspor and Lithuanian side Kauno Žalgiris away from home.
