South Florida fans — sporting cowboy hats, boots and their favorite pairs of jeans — returned to Amerant Bank Arena on Saturday night, hoping to see another win for the Florida Freedom on day two of Professional Bull Riding competition in Sunrise.
Standing in their way of another victorious night following the Freedom's day one win over the Missouri Thunder was the New York Mavericks. Despite occupying the last-place spot in the team standings, the Mavericks may have been the last team the No. 2 Freedom wanted to see based on Friday night's performance.
The then-winless Mavericks bested the then-No. 2 Texas Rattlers, and New York was clearly on the hunt to make history repeat — and to win its third straight meeting with the Freedom. However, while both teams were able to put up just one qualified ride, Florida ultimately grabbed its second win of the weekend 89.00-86.80.
Leandro Zampollo kicked things off for the Mavericks, but it was a quick ride for him. He bucked off Bruise Whacked in 3.75 seconds.
Then, it was time for the Freedom, coached by PBR Ring of Honor inductee Paulo Crimber, to start their night. Aug. 6—MITCHELL — The Garretson Blue Jays hung crooked numbers on the Cadwell Park scoreboard early on Thursday, securing a spot in the second round of the Class B state amateur baseball tournament.
Powered by three runs in the first inning and five more in the third, the Jays had 11 hits on 11 runs and benefitted from four Lesterville errors in an 11-1, seven-inning win over the Broncs in the first round.
The Bluejays (14-3) will play Dell Rapids PBR at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the second round of the tournament. The game will be a rematch of the 2024 Class B semifinal round, which PBR won 5-3 over Garretson in Mitchell on the way to a state ******* le.

The Oklahoma Wildcatters will host their annual homestand, Wildcatter Days, at Paycom Center from July 31-Aug. 2.
Wildcatter Days is the second event of the PBR Teams series, where 10 teams of drafted riders compete weekly for the championship in November. The team format debuted in 2022, with the Oklahoma Wildcatters joining the league in 2024.
After opening weekend, the Texas Rattlers lead the standings as the only 2-0 team. The Wildcatters are tied for eighth at 1-1 with 350 points. Each team sends five riders per competition, with each ride scored out of 100 points based on the rider's control and the bull's bucking performance.
Veteran collegiate coach Greg Rhodes was hired as the Oklahoma Wildcatters head coach for the 2026 season after the team parted ways with two-time PBR world champion J.B. Mauney. Rhodes was previously the head coach at Western Texas College, where he developed numerous national champions and top PBR riders.

NEW DELHI: Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers says money never motivated him during his illustrious career, insisting his only focus was improving as a cricketer and competing against the best in the world.
Speaking on The Times of India's "Bombay Sports Exchange" podcast, the 41-year-old reflected on how the financial boom in T20 cricket has changed the aspirations of young players, while explaining why his own journey was never driven by lucrative contracts or commercial success.
Asked whether greater financial incentives in Test cricket could encourage youngsters to pursue the longest format, de Villiers admitted that money inevitably draws attention but said it should never be the primary motivation for an aspiring athlete.
"When I was growing up, my dream was simply to play for my country in front of packed crowds. It had nothing to do with money," de Villiers said.
He believes the challenge for Test cricket lies in creating excitement around the format rather than simply increasing player earnings.
"If ****** ody is watching Test cricket, then where is the excitement? If there's no buzz around it, no ultimate trophy that's fiercely contested and celebrated, then why should youngsters dream about becoming Test cricketers?" he said.
While acknowledging the Indian Premier League's remarkable commercial growth, de Villiers revealed he barely paid attention to the financial side of the tournament during his playing days.
"I'll probably give you a very boring answer. Throughout my entire career, I never thought about money, politics or any of that," he said.
"My entire focus was simply on hitting a cricket ball every single day. That's all I thought about."
The former Royal Challengers Bengaluru star admitted that seeing his bank balance increase was a pleasant surprise, but never something that influenced his decisions.
"I'd occasionally look at my bank account and think, 'Wow, that's nice. That's a bonus.' Then I'd ask, 'What do we do now? Invest it? Fine.' And after that, it was straight back to cricket. How can I become better? How can I win games? That's all that mattered."
Looking back after retirement, de Villiers says he now appreciates the scale of cricket's financial growth far more than he did as a player.
"It's incredible to see how much the IPL has grown over the years. It's breathtaking," he said. "I was happy for whoever had built it."
De Villiers also credited his upbringing for shaping his attitude towards wealth, saying he was raised to value hard work and gratitude over financial success.
"I was brought up in a way where money never really moved the needle for me," he said. "From a young age, I was taught that money doesn't grow on trees. You appreciate your blessings. You respect other people."

Mbappé called Celeste Amarilla, a senator from Paraguay’s Liberal Radical Party, a “despicable woman” who was “unworthy” of serving in Paraguay's Congress.
“Through your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup,” Mbappé wrote on X.

There was a familiar sight at the KSCA Hubli Cricket Ground on Wednesday. As Samit Dravid made his way to the crease for Kalyani Bengaluru Blasters in the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 2026, it took only a few deliveries for social media to draw comparisons with one of Indian cricket's greatest batters.
The trigger movement, upright stance, high left elbow and compact backlift instantly evoked memories of his father, Rahul Dravid. For many fans watching, it was as if "The Wall" had returned to the crease.
Samit arrived under difficult circumstances after the Blasters lost two wickets inside the opening eight deliveries. Rather than panic, the young batter played with composure, scoring 32 from 23 ******* to steady the innings before departing.
His contribution proved crucial as Rohan Patil struck 64 and Praveen Dubey added 51 to guide Bengaluru Blasters to 203/7. Hubli Tigers mounted a spirited chase led by Manvanth ******* ar's explosive 60 but eventually fell short by just two runs.

His crisp square cuts, fluent cover drives, controlled pull shots and balanced footwork bore an uncanny resemblance to Rahul Dravid's trademark style, prompting fans online to describe him as a "photocopy" of the former India captain.
Given his upbringing, those comparisons are hardly unexpected. Having grown up in Karnataka's cricketing system under the guidance of one of the game's finest technicians, Samit naturally developed many of the batting fundamentals that made his father a legend.
Despite the similarities, however, the youngster is shaping a career with a different skill set.
Where Rahul built his legacy as one of the greatest specialist batters in cricket history, Samit has emerged as a genuine pace-bowling all-rounder. Alongside his middle-order batting, he offers medium pace and has already made a strong impression in age-group cricket.
He played a pivotal role in Karnataka's victorious 2023-24 Cooch Behar Trophy campaign, accumulating 362 runs while also claiming 16 wickets. One of the standout performances of that tournament came in the form of a crucial 98 against Jammu and Kashmir.
Those performances earned him selection for India's Under-19 squad for the home series against Australia in 2024. However, a knee injury cut short that opportunity. Since recovering, Samit has resumed his progress and continues to strengthen his credentials through consistent domestic performances with both bat and ball.
The Dravid family's next generation does not end there.
Rahul Dravid's younger son, Anvay Dravid, is also beginning to establish himself on the national stage. Unlike Samit, Anvay is a wicketkeeper-batter, following a role similar to the one his father performed during much of his international career.
The 17-year-old was recently named in India's Under-19 squad for the tour of Sri Lanka, which begins on July 14.
