(NEXSTAR) – Yet another state has been linked to the multistate outbreak of the parasite-linked sickness cyclosporiasis as investigators seek to positively identify the cause.
While the Food and Drug Administration has confirmed that a positive test result linked to samples of Taylor Farms-branded shredded lettuce sourced from central Mexico was instead a false positive, the investigation remains focused on the produce.
"FDA's traceback investigation and outbreak data continue to converge on shredded iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms locations in central Mexico," the FDA said Monday. The agency added that it "will continue to work with federal and state partners to investigate this multistate outbreak and ensure products implicated in this outbreak have been removed from the market."
Product samples are still being collected, but "there are no confirmed positive sample results" linked to the cyclospora outbreak, the FDA said.

(NEXSTAR) – El Niño is gaining steam. National forecasters released an update on the climate phenomenon this week, saying it's now predicted to last longer and grow stronger than previously thought.
There's a 97% chance this year's El Niño will spill over into next year, lasting until spring 2027, the Climate Prediction Center said Thursday. There's an 81% chance it will grow to be "very strong" by its peak in the early winter.
Very strong El Niños, also called "super" El Niños, are rare. If things pan out as they're predicted to, this year's "would rank among the largest El Niño events in the historical record going back to 1950," according to the Climate Prediction Center.
"I think it's fair to say that, depending on [the] model, the forecasts are close to unprecedented," Michael Tippett, a Columbia University atmospheric scientist, told CNN.
A "super" El Niño doesn't necessarily mean super-strong weather impacts.

LONDON (AP) — A series of arson and vandalism attacks on Jewish sites in Britain were the work of a proxy group backed by Iran, the U.K. government said Monday.
The government said it is banning the group behind the attacks, the Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right, or IMCR, also known as Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia.
It also banned Iran's powerful paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, which it said is a threat to national security. The move makes it illegal to support the groups. Committing sabotage on their behalf will be punishable by up to life imprisonment.
Parliament must approve the bans, which the government expects to take place by the end of the week.
Security Minister Angela Eagle said in a statement that the IMCR has claimed seven attacks in the U.K. The group had said online that it was responsible for a string of arson attacks on Jewish sites in London in recent months, including fires at synagogues and Jewish charity ambulances, as well as a Persian-language media organization critical of Iran's government. No one was injured in the blazes.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, said her Democratic Senate primary race was "a racist race" in an interview published Wednesday and argued she didn't need to campaign with her former opponent and the party's nominee, James Talarico.
Crockett said at the Essence Festival alongside the hosts of the "Native Land" podcast that the best thing she could do for former primary foe Talarico was to endorse Black candidates down ballot so more Black voters turn out in November.
"The best thing that I can do is take down-ballot candidates who no one's ever heard of and do my best to uplift them and increase the voter participation in a way that we did in Texas," she said.
"You see, a lot of haters got a lot of things to say about me and my race and how I ran it," Crockett continued. "But the reality is that there was a lot of racist, not a lot, it was racist. It was a racist race. It is what it is, right? But we live in America as y'all are celebrating 250. OK? We know what this country is. But let me tell you the facts. There is no race that turned out more people to vote ever in the state of Texas except for Barack [Obama] and Hillary [Clinton]."

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court held Monday that constitutional privacy protections extend to cellphone location information, ruling in the case of a bank robber whose identity was discovered through a geofence warrant.
Justice Elena Kagan wrote for the 6-3 court that people don't forfeit expectations of privacy even when they opt into Google's location history.
"A cellphone user is not to be viewed as sharing private information with third parties—which then can be freely passed on to the government—just by doing the ordinary things cellphone users do," Kagan wrote.
Justice Samuel Alito wrote in dissent that Okello Chatrie had no expectation of privacy in information he voluntarily turned over to Google.
The decision is the court's latest effort to apply a constitutional provision ratified in 1791 to technology the nation's founders could not have envisioned.

(NewsNation) — A stunt performer who appeared at the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show with Madonna died in a BASE jumping incident in Utah over the weekend.
Officials were notified of a BASE jumping incident in Mineral Bottom, a remote canyon, where rescue teams found two men. One was identified as Andrew Lewis, 39, better known as "Sketchy Andy," who died of his injuries at the scene. Another 50-year-old man also died of his injuries.

The two men were conducting a tandem BASE jump when the fatal incident occurred, the Moab Sun News reported.
In BASE jumping, people use parachutes to descend to the ground after jumping off a fixed object. In tandem BASE jumping, a less experienced jumper is harnessed to a more experienced jumper, and the pair shares a single parachute.

A judge on Thursday dismissed a murder charge against an Arkansas man who won the GOP nomination for sheriff while awaiting trial for the shooting death of his teenage daughter's alleged abuser.
The ruling came weeks before Aaron Spencer, who will be on the November ballot, had been set to face a jury on a second-degree murder charge. He won a March primary over the local three-term sheriff whose office had arrested Spencer in Lonoke County, which has roughly 76,000 residents and is heavily Republican.
Spencer's attorneys do not deny that he shot and killed Michael Fosler in 2024, saying he did so to protect his child. Special Circuit Court Judge Ralph Wilson Jr. granted a motion by Spencer's attorney to dismiss the charge over a dash camera memory card that may have captured the shooting and was lost by law enforcement.
"The court finds that conduct by law enforcement was so egregious that dismissal of this case is warranted," Wilson wrote.
At the time of the shooting, Fosler, 67, was out on bond after being charged with dozens of ******* ual offenses against Spencer's then-13-year-old daughter.
