The Cavaliers have drafted Arkansas guard Meleek Thomas with the No. 34 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft
The Cavs originally traded out of the No. 29 overall selection, dealing that pick to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for No. 34, which they turned into Thomas, and a 2032 second-round pick.
In the first round, Canton native Darryn Peterson was selected No. 2 overall by the Utah Jazz.
Meleek Thomas stands 6-5 and weighs 185 pounds.

The Cavaliers have traded their first-round pick in the 2026 draft.
The Cavs, as they were on the clock, agreed to a deal with the Kings, sending Sacramento the No. 29 overall pick in exchange for the No. 34 overall selection and a future second-rounder, as first reported by ESPN.
With No. 29, the Kings selected UConn forward Alex Karaban.
The Cavs, still in the NBA's second apron, continue to maneuver their **** ets with the goal of flexibility.
Around midnight of June 22, it was reported that the Milwaukee Bucks had dealt superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat in a blockbuster deal that was sure to have repercussions around the league as to how several contenders built their rosters and approached the NBA Draft.

Doc Rivers gets real on why James Harden's play style does not lead to postseason success originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
James Harden has been in the NBA since 2009, and he has been awesome. Initially starting off as a sixth man for the Oklahoma City Thunder, he truly rose to stardom with the Houston Rockets.
He has mainly played as a shooting guard throughout his career, but he has become more of a point guard in recent years. Championship-winning head coach Doc Rivers believes that leaning into the second play style leads to the best version of Harden.
Harden is now playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he is the point guard alongside Donovan Mitchell. However, it seems that he still did not play winning basketball because the Cavs lost in a sweep in the Eastern Conference Finals.
In that ECF against the New York Knicks, it was clear that Harden was struggling. He was not impactful, especially as a scorer, something that Rivers wants to minimize from Harden's game.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have some tough decisions to make this summer. Anything they choose to do will come with a risk. From making another blockbuster trade to simply running back the same squad. The latter feels like something they can't afford to do.
That's because reality has caught up with the Cavs. They've built this roster on speciality players that fill specific roles. And while the rest of the NBA is thriving on versatility, Cleveland's Jenga Tower of one-dimensional skillsets is starting to teeter.
You can dissect the roster and find overlapping talents at every position. Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley share the frontcourt. James Harden and Donovan Mitchell dominate the backcourt. There isn't a whole lot that separates those duos from their counterpart.
The stars of this team aren't multifaceted. Neither is the supporting cast. They're a layered collective that looks to be greater than the sum of its parts. That can lead to wonderful things when everything is going right. But relying on that many moving pieces is nearly impossible.
The Cavs need to consolidate.

The Philadelphia 76ers and new President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey will have plenty of players to look over and evaluate as they continue their prep for the 2026 NBA draft. Luckily for the Sixers, Gansey has experience running the draft during his days with the Cleveland Cavaliers so this isn't anything new.
Gansey has a knack for finding diamond-in-the-rough type of players. He was instrumental in the additions of unheralded players such as Dean Wade, Craig Porter Jr., and Nae'Qwan Tomlin, who all made impacts for the Cavs in 2025-26. It will be on Gansey and the front office now to find a player at No. 22 who can help the Sixers right away in an effort to dethrone the defending champion New York Knicks.
To give one an idea of what the Sixers can expect at No. 22, here are the previous five players who were selected at this position:
Career stats: 6.5 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 1.4 apg, 40.2% FG, 28% 3FG
Career stats: 3.7 ppg,1.4 rpg, 0.6 apg, 0.2 bpg, 50.8% FG (25 career games due to injury)

Several players from the 2016 championship Cleveland Cavaliers, are celebrating the 10th anniversary of that achievement on the golf course. J.R. Smith is among the group that went across the pond. However, according to him, he hasn’t been invited back by the organization he helped bring a championship to.
In a recent episode of The Pivot Podcast, Smith talked about the importance of teams taking care of their former players. He pointed to the New York Knicks as the gold standard of doing this. And in the process, he singled out the Cavs for not being up to snuff in this department.
“I won a whole chip in Cleveland, they haven’t invited me back once, and it’s been 10 years,” Smith said. “This is our 10-year anniversary. They haven’t invited me back once.”
The official Cavs account on X replied to this with a video of Smith being at a game during the 2022-23 season and saying that he “ALWAYS has a home here.”

The NBA season wrapped up Saturday, June 13, as the New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on the road, winning their first championship in 53 years.
With Damion Lee retiring after the 2024-25 season and Terry Rozier being placed on indefinite unpaid leave by the NBA because of an FBI sports gambling fraud case against him, only two former Louisville Cardinals saw the court this season. Here is a look at how they fared:
Donovan Mitchell led the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2018, when LeBron James was still running the show there. But after collapsing in Game 1 against the eventual-champion Knicks, the Cavs fell flat and were swept by New York.
In the four-game series, the former Louisville Cardinal averaged 27.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 ***** ists and 2.5 steals. During the regular season, Mitchell averaged 27.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.7 ***** ists and 1.5 steals. He was named to the All-NBA Second Team this season.
Mitchell helped guide his team past the Toronto Raptors in the first round and the Detroit Pistons in the conference semifinals. Both series went to seven games. Cleveland won Game 7 against Toronto at home before taking down Detroit on the road.

SAN ANTONIO — Karl-Anthony Towns didn’t hesitate, his stare pierced through shades covering his eyes after the Knicks completed yet another miraculous comeback, their second consecutive Game 1 rally of the playoffs. Only weeks earlier, the Knicks found themselves in far-too familiar territory, down 22 points in the Eastern Conference finals opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Knicks turned the game — and the series — in a massive 44-11 run that ushered in a four-game sweep of the Cavs and punched the franchise’s first NBA Finals appearance since 1999.
And now, they’ve done the same thing to the Spurs. Victor Wembanyama’s Spurs. The same Spurs who won 62 games, dethroned the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder and represented the toughest challenge these Knicks would face this entire playoff run. The Knicks were down 14 with 6:31 left in the third quarter of Game 1 of the NBA Finals at Frost Bank Center on Wednesday. They responded with a 25-11 run and defeated the Spurs, 105-95, to steal home-court advantage and take a 1-0 series lead, moving just three wins shy of the franchise’s first championship since 1973.
Yet this is what the Knicks expected — both the result and the fashion of victory. They are the NBA’s comeback kids, grave-digging basketball undertakers who never die, never lay down, never falter in the face of adversity.
Just like the borough stitched across the front of the jerseys. And now, both these players and this city — New York City — are three wins shy of being immortalized in basketball history.
“It’s something in the city. You feel that energy in the city; the grit, the grind, the hard work you’ve got to put in to make in the city,” Towns said. “I think we reflect all our fans and lifestyles and what it takes to make it in New York City when we step on the court with a Knicks jersey.”

Rockets predicted to swap ex-Lakers disgruntled forward for $150 million Cavaliers star originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
What’s next for the Houston Rockets after flaming out in the first round of the postseason in May?
Well, the consensus is that the franchise will keep its core intact while potentially trading for a perimeter-oriented ***** et that would help take them over the top. Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz’s recent trade proposal would help Houston do exactly that, as it would send a 33-year-old ex-Los Angeles Lakers disgruntled forward (Dorian Finney-Smith) to the Cleveland Cavaliers for a 29-year-old star guard.
“If the Cavs don't want to move (Donovan) Mitchell to an Eastern Conference team, the Rockets would be a strong trade partner,” Swartz wrote Tuesday. “Poor guard play doomed Houston this season, a franchise that's perhaps just one piece away from contending for a ***** le.”
“A starting five of Fred VanVleet, Mitchell, Amen Thompson, Kevin Durant, and Alperen Şengün, with Tari Eason (restricted free agent), Steven Adams, and others, is the making of a core that could challenge even the best in the West. (Jabari) Smith, 23, has star potential and could thrive in a bigger role. A frontcourt of him and Evan Mobley is big, long, and athletic, although it could use some added muscle. Smith's five-year, $122 million extension is set to kick in, potentially making him a steal if he's in the right role.”
