The Boston Celtics have reportedly signed Devin Carter to a training camp deal, per HoopsHype's Michael Scotto. Carter, 24, will have the opportunity to either earn a spot on Boston's main NBA roster or to join Amari Williams and Dillon Mitchell as one of the Celtics' three two-way talents. Should he sign a two-way deal, he would be expected to spend the majority of the season with the Maine Celtics. Still, it's fair to ******* ume he'd get a chance to impress with the NBA roster at some point, too.
Unfortunately, the decision to sign Carter doesn't come without a potential roster casualty. Milos Uzan has been with the Celtics since signing an Exhibit 10 contract earlier this summer. Uzan instantly impressed when suiting up for the Celtics during Las Vegas Summer League, where he averaged 9.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4 ******* ists per game, shooting 36.8 percent from 3-point range and 38.1 percent from the field.
Following John Tonje's decision to join the Portland Trail Blazers on a two-way deal earlier in the offseason, the path for Uzan to earn the final two-way spot with the Celtics appeared wide open. Sure, he'd have to impress during training camp and beat out Tucker DeVries, but given Boston's need for a depth piece at guard, everything seemed to be lining up.
Now, with Carter also in the mix, Uzan is facing a far tougher battle to prove himself and earn a two-way spot with the Celtics. Uzan is a talented young guard and should have no problem finding a home in the coming months if things do not go his way.
Hopefully, he remains in Maine regardless of whether he gets a two-way deal. After all, he could still work with the Celtics' developmental staff and potentially prove the front office wrong for signing Carter, should that come to pass. Of course, Uzan will likely draw interest from elsewhere if Carter does beat Uzan to the Celtics' final two-way spot, and unfortunately for Uzan, that's just part of trying to make it in the NBA.

As expected after Atlanta waived him last week, point guard Devin Carter has agreed to terms and will join the Boston Celtics in training camp, reports Michael Scotto of Hoopshype.
Boston has its 15th roster spot open and the cap ****** e to add another player, but Carter also has two-way eligibility. How things go in training camp may determine his status, although the more likely outcome is that he starts the season on a two-way and that contract may convert to a standard one.
Carter, a lottery pick out of Providence, played his two NBA seasons with the Kings (who traded him to Atlanta this summer in a salary dump). Due to a variety of injuries (shoulder, ankle, calf and back), Carter played in 74 games across those two seasons, and last season averaged 8.9 points per game when he did get on the court.
Carter needs to answer two questions in Celtics training camp. First, can he stay healthy and on the court? Second, has he improved his 3-point shooting? Carter has shot 27.4% from beyond the arc in the NBA, and Boston is a 3-point-happy team under Joe Mazzulla, Carter needs to show he can be part of that.

Lakers predicted to sign $15M explosive former first-round pick to revive career around Luka Doncic originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Former first-round pick Cam Whitmore is simply looking for an opportunity to play for the right team in the right situation. He still does not know exactly where that will be, but he is hoping to find the right fit soon.
Whitmore was on the roster bubble with the Washington Wizards before being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Cleveland ultimately waived him to make room for James Harden.
"The Cleveland Cavaliers have waived Cam Whitmore, league sources told hoopshype. Whitmore, the 20th pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, has averaged 10.5 points on 45% from the field and 35% from 3-point range in 17.3 minutes during three NBA seasons with the Rockets and Wizards," HoopsHype's Michael Scotto wrote.
Whitmore still has time to develop into the player many believe he can become. Fadeaway World's Fran Leiva believes the Los Angeles Lakers could be the team to give him that opportunity.

Warriors predicted to sign $15M athletic former first-rounder recently waived by the Cavaliers originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Golden State Warriors' first 12 players on the roster this summer were familiar faces with some level of experience in the organization. However, that changed as the Warriors added several pieces to round out the team during free agency.
Golden State brought in veterans with playoff experience last week, officially signing Georges Niang and Brandon Williams to contracts.
"The Warriors signed Georges Niang to a partially guaranteed deal and Brandon Williams to a non-guaranteed deal, sources say. Niang is partially guaranteed for $1.84M of his $3.88M salary. Williams can earn $1.4M if he makes the opening night roster and up to $2.63M total," HoopsHype's Michael Scotto posted.
The Warriors still have a two-way contract available after rounding out the rest of the roster. Blue Man Hoops' Peter O'Keefe believes Golden State could use that spot to sign Cam Whitmore.

Jonathan ******* inga's free agency has become less about finding a contract and more about choosing a direction. Just when the Los Angeles Lakers appeared to have positioned themselves as the frontrunner with a concrete sign-and-trade proposal, another Western Conference contender entered the picture.
This time, it's the Minnesota Timberwolves, whose reported interest has added a fresh layer of uncertainty to one of the NBA's longest-running offseason sagas.
The latest development came from NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, who reported that the Timberwolves have shown interest in Jonathan ******* inga. The update arrives after the team missed out on signing LeBron James, with many reports heavily linking them.
At the same time, or around then, another report surfaced, revealing the Lakers' latest push. According to NBA insider Evan Sidery, the Lakers have offered Jonathan ******* inga a three-year, roughly $45 million contract via a sign-and-trade. The offer also includes Jarred Vanderbilt and draft compensation headed to the Atlanta Hawks.
The proposal would pay JK around $15 million annually, bringing the Lakers closer to the financial range that has gradually emerged as his realistic market.

Former Ohio State basketball star Jae'Sean Tate is returning to Houston. The Rockets announced the re-signing of the former Buckeye forward to a one-year deal on Thursday. According to Hoops Hype's Michael Scotto, the contract is worth $3.07 million with a partial guarantee of $1.04 million.
Tate is entering his seventh year with the Rockets after banking the odds and finding his way to Houston after first playing in Europe. He was signed to an NBA contract in 2020 and quickly became a starter who could do a little bit of everything for the Rockets, even making the All-NBA Rookie First Team, becoming only the second non-NBA-drafted player to do so.
Tate has averaged 7.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.8 ***** ists during his six years with Houston, but those numbers are dragged down a bit by last season's 2.8 points per contest in limited action. He may be on the tail end of his career, but he has been a mainstay in Houston longer than any other player on the team. Hopefully, this coming season will see a bit of a renaissance, being paired with former Ohio State all-time leading scorer and star guard Bruce Thornton.
Tate becomes only the 15th player in Rockets' history to play at least seven seasons with the club. We wish Tate success and the chance to get a contract beyond this next season.

Whenever a player who could've helped the Los Angeles Lakers ends up with another team, some fans simply ******* ume that the Lakers didn't go after him. But the team has been aggressive this summer in remodeling its roster after LeBron James left, and that aggression extends to players it struck out on.
On Sunday, Luguentz Dort, who was a key starter for the Oklahoma City Thunder over the last several years, was sent to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team trade. Before that trade went down, the Lakers were reportedly one team that had interest in him, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
"Several teams expressed trade interest in acquiring Dort before he was traded to Atlanta, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors, and Miami Heat, league sources told HoopsHype."
Los Angeles has lacked defensive-minded wings, especially those who can also hit open 3-pointers, for a number of years. While Dort shot just 38.5% from the field and 34.4% from 3-point range last season, he could've served as a nice piece for L.A.
About a month ago, NBA insider Jake Fischer wrote that the team had called the Thunder about Dort. Instead, it eventually added two-way wing Quentin Grimes and forwards Ziaire Williams and Matisse Thybulle in free agency. It is also hoping that 6-foot-5 rookie guard Cameron Carr will make it into its rotation and display some legitimate two-way ability.

The Los Angeles Lakers have been extremely active this summer, especially early on with the moves they made. With LeBron James not returning next season, Los Angeles is now building its immediate future around Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
The Lakers are searching for a wing who can provide consistent production on both ends of the floor. While no player can fully replace James, Los Angeles is looking for someone who can bring a similar impact. Jonathan ***** inga has emerged as one of the team's top targets.
"There is mutual free agent interest between Jonathan ***** inga and the Lakers, per Jovan Buha. Los Angeles continues to work behind the scenes to secure ***** inga's commitment as their new wing addition," NBA reporter Evan Sidery wrote.
The Lakers have also remained active in trade discussions this summer and do not appear to be finished making moves. HoopsHype's Michael Scotto revealed that Los Angeles was among the teams interested in acquiring NBA champion Lu Dort before the Atlanta Hawks completed a deal.

Lakers officially cut ties with underwhelming 6-foot-10 ex-Mavericks sharpshooter originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
An underwhelming 6-foot-10 former Dallas Mavericks sharpshooter's short stint with the Los Angeles Lakers is reportedly over.
According to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, the Lakers are cutting ties with the 34-year-old veteran by renouncing his free agent rights.
The Los Angeles Lakers have officially renounced the free agent rights to LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Dion Waiters, Luke Kennard, Marcus Smart, Maxi Kleber, Nick Smith Jr, Jared Dudley, Avery Bradley, Jaxson Hayes, Markieff Morris, and Wayne Ellington.
Kleber, who joined the Lakers with Luka Doncic on Feb. 2 2025, via a mind-blowing trade with the Mavericks, didn't appear in a game with Los Angeles due to a right foot fracture. Due to a quad injury suffered during the beginning of training camp, the Wurzburg, Germany native missed the start of the 2025-26 season.

Lakers officially cut ties with Luka Doncic's 7-foot lob threat originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Luka Doncic landed his ideal lob threat on Wednesday, as the Los Angeles Lakers acquired former Utah Jazz high-upside center Walker Kessler via sign-and-trade.
On the same day, HoopsHype's Michael Scotto reported that Doncic's 7-foot lob threat from Feb 2025 to July 2026 is officially departing the franchise.
"The Los Angeles Lakers have officially renounced the free agent rights to LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Dion Waiters, Luke Kennard, Marcus Smart, Maxi Kleber, Nick Smith Jr, Jared Dudley, Avery Bradley, Jaxson Hayes, Markieff Morris, and Wayne Ellington"
Hayes, who officially inked a free agent deal with the Utah Jazz two days after Scotto's report, had his fair share of moments with Doncic in the pick-and-roll. The Texas product enjoyed one of the productive stretches of his career last March, as he averaged 9.8 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 79.7% from the field as the beneficiary of several Doncic-assisted lobs.

With only $2 million of Jonas Valanciunas' $10 million salary for next season guaranteed, the writing has been on the wall for a while, considering how the Nuggets are looking to save money as they look to extend Peyton Watson.
The Nuggets have officially waived Valanciunas, a story first reported by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Valanciunas was Nikola Jokic's backup in Denver last season, averaging 8.7 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while shooting 58.2%. Denver has signed Marvin Bagley III to fill that backup role this season.
Don't be surprised if the 14-year NBA big man signs to play in Europe next season. There were rumors last season he wanted to negotiate a buyout with Denver to sign with Greek side Panathinaikos, but Denver was not about to let him go, they needed him. There is interest from Lithuanian side Zalgiris Kaunas, reports Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews.com.

With Howard retiring from basketball in March, there was never a scenario in which the 40-year-old would suit up for the Lakers again. Still, Scotto's report makes it crystal clear that the two parties are going their separate ways in early July.
