Former Ohio State basketball star Jae'Sean Tate is returning to Houston. The Rockets announced the re-signing of the former Buckeye forward to a one-year deal on Thursday. According to Hoops Hype's Michael Scotto, the contract is worth $3.07 million with a partial guarantee of $1.04 million.
Tate is entering his seventh year with the Rockets after banking the odds and finding his way to Houston after first playing in Europe. He was signed to an NBA contract in 2020 and quickly became a starter who could do a little bit of everything for the Rockets, even making the All-NBA Rookie First Team, becoming only the second non-NBA-drafted player to do so.
Tate has averaged 7.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.8 ***** ists during his six years with Houston, but those numbers are dragged down a bit by last season's 2.8 points per contest in limited action. He may be on the tail end of his career, but he has been a mainstay in Houston longer than any other player on the team. Hopefully, this coming season will see a bit of a renaissance, being paired with former Ohio State all-time leading scorer and star guard Bruce Thornton.
Tate becomes only the 15th player in Rockets' history to play at least seven seasons with the club. We wish Tate success and the chance to get a contract beyond this next season.

Whenever a player who could've helped the Los Angeles Lakers ends up with another team, some fans simply ******* ume that the Lakers didn't go after him. But the team has been aggressive this summer in remodeling its roster after LeBron James left, and that aggression extends to players it struck out on.
On Sunday, Luguentz Dort, who was a key starter for the Oklahoma City Thunder over the last several years, was sent to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team trade. Before that trade went down, the Lakers were reportedly one team that had interest in him, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
"Several teams expressed trade interest in acquiring Dort before he was traded to Atlanta, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors, and Miami Heat, league sources told HoopsHype."
Los Angeles has lacked defensive-minded wings, especially those who can also hit open 3-pointers, for a number of years. While Dort shot just 38.5% from the field and 34.4% from 3-point range last season, he could've served as a nice piece for L.A.
About a month ago, NBA insider Jake Fischer wrote that the team had called the Thunder about Dort. Instead, it eventually added two-way wing Quentin Grimes and forwards Ziaire Williams and Matisse Thybulle in free agency. It is also hoping that 6-foot-5 rookie guard Cameron Carr will make it into its rotation and display some legitimate two-way ability.

Bruce Thornton has officially signed his first NBA contract.
Drafted with the top selection of the 2026 second round, the Houston Rockets made the deal official Tuesday, and HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reports that the contract runs for up to four seasons and $9.3 million.
Only the first season (2026-27) is fully guaranteed.
That first season is for the NBA’s minimum rookie salary of $1.4 million, while subsequent years are non-guaranteed team options, per David Weiner of ClutchFans.
“It’s just a blessing, all of this,” Thornton told Rockets Wire at Tuesday’s summer-league practice in Houston. “My job is to play basketball now. I’ve got the best job in the world. There’s no complaining.”

Former Houston guard Emanuel Sharp, the 45th overall pick in the 2026 NBA draft, has signed a contract with the Sacramento Kings, the team announced.
Sharp was selected to the All-Big 12 first team last season, averaging 15.5 points, three rebounds, 1.7 ***** ists and 1.2 blocks while shooting 37.2% from 3-point range. He led the conference in free-throw percentage (89.1) and was fifth in 3-pointers (97).
The 6-foot-3 Sharp reportedly agreed to a three-year, $6.35 million pact with the Kings, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. The rookie contract is guaranteed for the first two years, with a team option in the last season.
Sharp left Houston as the all-time leader in 3s (309) and one of seven players to accumulate 100 or more victories after appearing in the NCAA Tournament each year. He also finished second in free throws (379), third in steals (159) and fourth in field goals (507).
The 22-year-old was highly touted entering the draft this year for his shooting ability, boasting long range and a quick release. He also has a knack for generating paint touches and converting difficult finishes at the rim through contact.

Freeman played in four games for the Timberwolves last season, spending the bulk of his time in the G League to continue his professional development. In those four games for Minnesota, Freeman averaged 3.3 points and 2.5 rebounds while making 50% of his field goals and 50% of his 3-pointers.

The Charlotte Hornets have made plenty of moves already this offseason, but it appears as though the team isn't gearing up to add a star just yet. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, trade negotiations between the Hornets and Boston Celtics regarding Jaylen Brown have "cooled" despite Boston's interest in Naz Reid.
Last season with the Celtics, Brown posted career-high numbers while Jayson Tatum was sidelined for most of the year due to an Achilles injury. Brown completed the year with a sixth-place finish in MVP voting, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.1 ****** ists, one steal and 0.4 blocks. While Brown could certainly improve Charlotte's status in the Eastern Conference, the remaining three years of his current contract are quite pricey ($183 million). Considering this and the lack of stars available on the trade market, it appears as though the Hornets are holding off from making a big splash until the time is right.
