Three head coaches and three defensive coordinators in three seasons means Stanford won't be taking a lot of continuity into its 2026 opener against visiting Hawaii on Aug. 29.
But the Cardinal players are taking a change-can-be-good approach as they prepare for their first game under head coach Tavita Pritchard and defensive coordinator Kris Richard (pronounced Ri-shard).
"Obviously, it's not always ideal, learning a new scheme every single year," redshirt senior linebacker Matt Rose said after practice Thursday morning, "but I try to look at the positives out of it. I've learned so much about football.
"Everyone has their scheme, but at the end of the day, football is football."

The Buffalo Bills changed defensive coordinators, changed base fronts and changed the language in the meeting room this offseason. What they didn't change was the personnel in the middle of the defensive line — and that's the one place a 3-4 hybrid needs to work.
Enter Vita Vea. Tampa Bay's nose tackle cut off contract negotiations and requested a trade this week, and NFL.com put Buffalo at the top of his list of landing spots.

It would take a very clever person indeed to say at this stage where Ayyoub Bouaddi (18) will be playing in the 2026-27 season. Although he is reported to be very close to joining Manchester City – with whom he is said to have already reached an agreement – the Moroccan midfielder remains, for the time being, a Lille OSC player.
An important point that his chairman, Olivier Létang, present at a press conference on Friday, took great care to remind the media of. Whilst he explained that Ayyoub's situation had "not changed" since he last spoke in mid-July, and acknowledged interest from "very, very big clubs", the 53-year-old club executive was nevertheless keen to deny an "imminent deal with a club that plays in sky blue", despite reportedly having received several concrete offers – not just from Manchester City – since the transfer window opened.
"I told you last time that I thought Ayyoub (Bouaddi) was going to stay with us, and I still stand by that," he added. "The idea remains the same: to have a competitive team. Muay Thai, a combat style with roots in close-quarter fighting from 7th Century Southeast Asia, has evolved over two millennia into a brutally effective means of self-defense. Jul. 30—Three Hall of Fame inductions in the span of a month would be an extraordinary accomplishment for most athletic departments.
At Colfax High School, it almost felt inevitable.
During an 11-day span in May, football coach Mike Morgan and girls basketball coach Corey Baerlocher entered their state coaches **** ociation Halls of Fame, while volleyball coach Sue Doering was inducted into the WIAA Hall of Fame.
Each built one of the state's premier programs in their respective sports. Together, they coached 23 state championship teams, hundreds of victories and generations of student-athletes.
Their names now sit alongside another pair of Colfax coaching legends who helped shape the school's athletic identity: longtime boys basketball coach Bob Bafus and former baseball coach Mike Parrish.

According to Greg Auman, Bowles revealed that left tackle Tristan Wirfs tweaked his hamstring during Tuesday's conditioning test and will miss some time while he recovers.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — David Cifaldi and his two hiking companions were crossing Montana's ominous Froze-to-Death Plateau and approaching the top of the state's highest peak when their adventure took a bizarre and dangerous turn: Cifaldi slipped and impaled himself on his trekking pole as he fell.
The 44-inch (112-centimeter) steel-tipped pole passed through the flesh beneath Cifaldi's left arm, missing any vital organs, and protruded from his back. After conferring with his friends — and considering the high cost of a helicopter rescue — Cifaldi knew who would save him: himself.
"I was like, 'We've got to get off this mountain.' And they're both like, 'I don't know about that,'" Cifaldi said of his friends' initial reaction. "I'm pretty confident this is outside my chest wall. 'Tis but a flesh wound."
The 32-year-old nurse, who works in wound care at a hospital in Billings, Montana, did a self-assessment. He was alert. There was little pain or blood. And the pole wasn't moving. My earliest memory of St James' Park was walking up the narrow cobbled street opposite the Strawberry before being amazed by the brutalist concrete East Stand with its rippled concrete columns supporting the giant cantilever roof.
Incidentally, Faulkner Browns Architects used the rippling concrete effect to "soften" the brutalism.
Personally, I think it does the opposite.
Instead of clean smooth lines we have bites taken out, not just brutal but rough. Awe inspiring architecture to an eight year old.
The beautiful Georgian buildings adjacent were nowhere near as impressive. The city centre was full of classical sandstone buildings with much greater gravitas.

Mario Saint-Supery was lured away from his upcoming sophomore season by a four-year contract to play professionally in Valencia, and Mark Few was left without a point guard. That vacated roster spot, as well as the one left open by one-time commit Jack Kayil, however, may have come at exactly the right time. UCLA's Donovan Dent and Skyy Clark are among the group of fifth-year seniors suing the NCAA for one more season of eligibility, and Gonzaga is reportedly in the mix for both. If the Zags are able to land both, this roster stops looking like an eleventh-hour rebuild and starts looking like the key ingredients for a top-five squad.

The Vita Vea sweepstakes could be heating up. With reports that the disgruntled Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle requested a trade and would prefer a team based in California, rumors are swirling about a potential San Francisco 49ers connection. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler added more fuel to that fire when he listed the 49ers among five potential trade fits for Vea.

GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Packers made official the inevitable move with end Micah Parsons due before the official start of training camp.
They placed him on the reserve/physically unable to perform list July 28.
Parsons is recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee suffered against Denver in Week 15 last season. The move allows the Packers the right to keep Parsons from counting against the 53-man roster when the season starts if he is still rehabbing.
Parsons has said that he doesn't expect to be ready until after the first month of the season, so the Packers are expected to keep him on PUP once final cuts are made. He would be forced to miss the first four games.
The Packers would have to have an open roster spot or must create one when he returns to game action.
