Álex Rins is done with motorcycle racing. On the eve of the San Marino Grand Prix, the Monster Energy Yamaha rider confirmed he will leave MotoGP at the end of 2026, but ruled out a rumored move to the World Superbike Championship. Instead, Rins will step away from two-wheeled competition entirely and pursue a project on four wheels instead.
The rumors had been building at Magny-Cours, and Rins cleared them up himself during Thursday's media scrum at Misano. Discussions with Go Eleven reportedly fell through, and rather than chase a Plan B in WSBK racing, the 30-year-old Spaniard went a different direction entirely.
"I will not go to Superbike next year," Rins said. "I had two possibilities there. I really want to say thanks to them because they were quite interested in me. But I found another thing that really motivates me more." He added that he can't reveal the new project yet because negotiations are still on-going but hinted that it would be on four wheels instead of two.
"I'm really happy. For sure it was difficult to choose, because all my life in MotoGP, in this championship, many fights, many races, many wins," says Rins. "14 years, more or less. So yeah, I will stop with two wheels."
Rins didn't slam the door completely on bikes. He floated the idea of a limited return in the vein of Cal Crutchlow.

The Monster Jam monster truck stunt show is back in Jacksonville. Eventgoers can expect big trucks doing big tricks all weekend long.
Typically, this event is held at Everbank Stadium, but because of the Stadium of the Future construction, it's been moved.
Truckloads of dirt were wheeled into Vystar, but the big wheels everyone is interested in are 12,000-pound monster trucks!
"There's nothing like taking a 12,000-pound truck and doing a backflip into a nose wheel combo or something crazy like that," said monster truck driver Tony Ochs.
The Saturday and Sunday event features driver competitions in three categories: Racing, 2 Wheel Skills and Freestyle. Some of the stunts include back flips and vertical two-wheel tricks.

Manchester City have opened talks with Chelsea in their bid to sign midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
In what is set to be one of the key narratives on transfer deadline day, City have set the wheels in motion towards what would be one of the most expensive deals of the summer.
It is understood Chelsea want a minimum of £120m for Fernandez and talks are under way as both clubs negotiate a price.
Fernandez, 25, worked with City manager Enzo Maresca during the Italian's reign at Chelsea.

The Buffalo Bills on Saturday announced a handful of their final cuts as they trim their roster to 53 players. Among their initial cuts was former San Francisco 49ers second-round pick Dante Pettis.
Pettis was the 49ers' second-round pick in the 2018 draft. He put together a strong rookie campaign in San Francisco with 27 catches for 467 yards and five touchdowns despite suffering a knee injury in Week 4 and being limited to 12 games. His arrow was pointed up with the 49ers and it looked after Year 1 like he might be a foundational piece of their receiving corps.
Unfortunately for Pettis, the wheels came off in 2019 as the 49ers became a Super Bowl contender. He caught 11 ******* for 109 yards and two touchdowns in 11 games during his sophomore campaign. Pettis didn't make it through 2020 with the 49ers. He didn't record a catch in five games and was waived in November.
Since being waived he's been unable to catch on with a substantial role on any club. He played five games across one-plus seasons with the New York Giants. He had one year with the Chicago Bears in 2022, didn't sign with anyone in 2023, and then caught on with the New Orleans Saints for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. The Buffalo Bills signed him this offseason and he wasn't able to earn a place on the 53-man roster.
Pettis since his rookie season has 65 catches for 764 yards and eight touchdowns in 54 games with 12 starts.

Hollywood has decided motorcycle racing is the next thing to monetize, and the first swing at it is not the reverent documentary the paddock probably expected. It's a caper.
The project surfaced not through a studio press release but through the actor himself. Alan Ritchson, appearing on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast in late July, said flatly: "I got the rights to MotoGP. I love motorcycles." He went on to describe wanting to build something international and Fast & Furious-shaped around premier-class racing, and said he'd already started riding preparation with the intent of handling his own work on camera. Everything since — the streamer, the writer, the plot mechanics — has come from trade reporting rather than any confirmed announcement, so treat the details as provisional until someone official puts their name on it.
What isn't provisional is why a streamer would say yes. Ritchson's War Machine climbed to No. 9 on Netflix's all-time most-popular film list with 139.9 million views inside its 91-day counting window. That's the kind of number that buys an actor a first-look deal and the ability to walk in the door with a passion project attached.
MotoGP changed hands last year. Liberty Media completed its acquisition of Dorna Sports on July 3, 2025, folding the championship into the same Formula One Group that owns F1 and Quint. Anyone who watched what Liberty did with Formula 1 — the docuseries, the American race expansion, the feature film — can see the playbook being run again with a different set of wheels.

Jameis Winston reminded everyone he still has plenty left in the tank during the New York Giants' 26-3 preseason victory over the Miami Dolphins on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium.
The veteran quarterback started in place of rested starter Jaxson Dart and played the entire first half, completing 15 of 21 passes (two drops) for 150 yards. He also scored on an 11-yard touchdown scramble on the opening drive, turning a broken play into the game's first points.
Asked about the wheels still working on that touchdown run, Winston pointed first to the offensive line.
"Yeah, I think our offensive line just did a good job of setting the tone by establishing the run game. Now sometimes, you get to show the young-school cats that I can still be an athlete and get out the pocket," he told reporters after the game.
Winston said he enjoyed the extended opportunity to run the offense.

Former Georgia Bulldogs star pass rusher Mykel Williams is recovering from an ACL injury entering his second year in the NFL. Williams is not expected to be ready to return to game action in time for Week 1.
The San Francisco 49ers drafted Williams with the No. 11 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, but he suffered a torn ACL midway through his rookie season. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan says that Williams is "progressing well", but is a "longshot" to play in Week 1.
Williams posted 20 tackles and one sack in his rookie season with the 49ers. San Francisco needs him to be healthy and is hoping to get more production out of Williams in Year 2. San Francisco suffered an enormous amount of injuries on defense last season, but was still able to make the playoffs. The wheels fell off for the 49ers in a Divisional Round loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
San Francisco needs to have a healthier 2026 season. San Francisco plays in the NFC West, which is arguably the toughest divisions in the NFL, and does not have a ton of margin of error.
Williams has been named as a player that is under pressure to perform this year. The 49ers are hoping Williams will take the next step and boost their pass rush.

In what could have been a great opening day for IndyCar on the streets of Markham, Ontario turned into bitter disappointment for the huge throng of fans in the grandstands and for IndyCar President Doug Boles.
Instead of racing action, the only wheels turned on the 2.19-mile, 12-turn road course was construction machinery still trying to complete the track build. Without enough key tire packs in place to make for a safe impact area, IndyCar officials cancelled all track activity on Friday and issued a revised schedule for Saturday.
That left Boles furious that the track was not ready in time by the promoter of this weekend's event, and a key, longtime IndyCar ally, Green Savoree Promotions.
"IndyCar is incredibly disappointed that our promoter was not able to complete the track build on time, despite significant support from our team on site," Boles said. "Ontario has always been a magnificent market for our sport and the number of spectators that attended today is a shining example of that. New events can always pose logistical challenges and we join in the frustration of our loyal fans and apologize.

Matthew Liberatore was his best self Friday afternoon as the St. Louis Cardinals entered the gauntlet of Wrigley Field to play the Cubs for the start of a crucial weekend series. The problem was that Cubs starter Clay Holmes was even better. The first 2/3 of the game was a scoreless and nearly hitless duel. Wheels would start to come off for the Cardinals in that last third of the game, though.
There are no offensive highlights to share with you from the first half of the game. However, there were a couple of defensive gems provided by the middle infield of the Cardinals. In the bottom of the 4th inning, Pete Crow-Armstrong was robbed by Masyn Winn. ROBBED!
The very next batter Suzuki was also denied base access, this time by future Gold Glove second baseman JJ Wetherholt. ROBBED AGAIN!
The Cubs would threaten to break through the scoring drought in the bottom of the 6th inning when Liberatore handed out a leadoff walk to Taylor. Dansby Swanson singled to center which gave Chicago runners at first and third with no outs. Matthew was able to get PCA to foul out to third for the first out, but that would be the end of Liberatore's strong outing Friday. George Soriano was brought in to face Suzuki. During his at-bat, Swanson stole second giving the Cubs two runners in scoring position. The stolen base wouldn't matter as Suzuki connected on an 88 mph changeup as it cleared the wall in left field traveling 390 feet and giving Chicago a 3-0 lead.
The Chicago Cubs 6th inning wasn't over yet as Soriano followed the Suzuki homer with a walk to Alex Bregman and a single to Michael Busch still with just one out. Fortunately, JJ Wetherholt and Masyn Winn combined on a double play on a grounder from Nico ******* ner to end the inning with the damage already being done. The final stat line for Matthew Liberatore would look less impressive than the eye test where he looked extremely sharp for the first 5 innings. Matthew tossed 5 1/3 innings striking out 6 and only walking 1, but those 2 earned runs that crossed the plate along with the 1 Soriano was responsible for were a killer.

The training wheels are about to come off for the New England Patriots' rookie class. After 13 training camp practices of only going up against their themselves and their veteran teammates, they now will get a chance to hit somebody else.
That somebody else is the Indianapolis Colts, who are in Foxborough on Tuesday for a two-hour joint session. It projects to be the most competitive practice of the summer thus far, and a new experience for the first-year players on New England's roster.
"That'll be the real taste of the NFL going against a different team," said offensive tackle Caleb Lomu.
Lomu, who projects to spend his rookie season as the third offensive tackle behind starters Will Campbell and Morgan Moses, last competed against other players in late November. That day, he played 59 snaps as Utah's left tackle in a 31-21 win over Kansas.
There are obvious differences between that game and Tuesday's practice. Nonetheless, the first-round draft pick is looking forward to the upcoming challenge.

WENDOVER, Utah (AP) — The first — and only — person to break the sound barrier in a car hits the track in Utah this week with new wheels and his eye on another record.
Twenty years ago, British driver Andy Green set the land speed record for a diesel-powered car, reaching 350.092 mph (563.4 kph) at Utah's famous Bonneville Salt Flats. Green will return to the lunarlike landscape Tuesday and try to beat that mark, this time with a hydrogen-powered car.
The retired Royal Air Force fighter pilot aims not only to win another accolade but to showcase the power of hydrogen as a clean-energy alternative. It's the "fuel of the future," Green told The ******* ociated Press in a July interview.
Green will be driving the 32-foot (9.75-meter) JCB Hydromax, the brainchild of British construction equipment manufacturer JCB. The car is bright yellow, long and slim, resembling a pencil. It's powered by two hydrogen internal combustion engines with a combined 1,600 horsepower, which were adapted from engines used in the company's construction machinery. They mix pressurized hydrogen gas with air and ignite it to create bursts of power.
In targeting the diesel-powered record, Green also hopes to easily clear the world land speed records for hydrogen internal combustion engines (185.5 mph/298.5 kph) and electric vehicles (341.3 mph/549.2 kph).

Amanda Knox is taking her story to a comedy stage in Edinburgh, nearly two decades after the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher thrust her into an international media frenzy.
Knox made her Edinburgh Fringe debut with her show "Cartwheel," a one-woman show that blends comedy and storytelling as she reflects on her wrongful conviction, years in an Italian prison and the challenge of explaining her past to her young daughter.
The show, which began its Edinburgh run Aug. 7, and is scheduled through Aug. 17 at Gilded Balloon, is already sold out. The show takes its name from one of the most infamous narratives to emerge during the investigation into Kercher's death, which claimed that Knox performed cartwheels at an Italian police station.

Jordyn Tyson's first NFL training camp started quietly. As of the team's last two practices, the New Orleans Saints' top draft pick is beginning to show why the team selected him No. 8 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Tyson has noticeably increased his involvement over the Saints' last two practices, creating a lot of separation and becoming a more frequent target for Tyler Shough. After spending much of the offseason program on a carefully managed workload, the rookie is starting to look more comfortable within the offense.
Saturday was Tyson's best practice yet. Shough and the rookie connected several times, including a catch along the sideline after Tyson created considerable separation against Quincy Riley. He dragged both feet in bounds to complete the play.
Tyson carried that momentum into Sunday's practice, continuing to generate opportunities with the first-team offense. The growing comfort between him and Shough is an encouraging development after their limited time together during OTAs and mandatory minicamp.
Head coach Kellen Moore has primarily used Tyson from the slot while increasing his workload, but the Saints plan to expose him to more snaps on the outside. Now, as the training wheels come off, Tyson is beginning to provide a glimpse of the playmaking ability New Orleans envisioned when they made him a top-10 pick.

Jonathan Taylor has always been a good NFL running back. On occasion, he's emerged as the best back in the league.
2025 was one such season, even if his argument ran out of steam as the wheels fell off for a team that quickly rose to the top of the AFC, then plummeted back down the ranks. Taylor was on pace for 1,936 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns at 6.0 yards per attempt in the Indianapolis Colts' 8-2 start. That dropped to 1,083, seven and 3.3 yards per handoff over the final seven games of the year as his quarterback flipped from an injured Daniel Jones to Riley Leonard and a 44-year-old Philip Rivers. The Colts lost all those games, but general manager Chris Ballard is undeterred.
He's spent the 2026 offseason effectively running it back -- retaining key players like Jones and wide receiver Alec Pierce while making modest additions elsewhere. Now, that includes Taylor. On Thursday, he signed a two-deal contract extension with a base value of $44 million, a maximum value of $47 million and a massive $39 million guarantee.

The sister of Meredith Kercher has said a show by Amanda Knox, who was convicted of her murder and later cleared, "normalizes and trivializes violence against women."
British foreign exchange student Kercher was killed in Perugia, in 2007, and Knox, her US roommate, was arrested and later convicted of murder and ******* ual ******* ault in 2009 alongside Knox's then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito.
The couple maintained their innocence and, after years of legal battles, were acquitted of ******* ual ******* ault and murder by Italy's highest court in 2015.
Knox will now perform the show, named Cartwheel, which references a story that claimed she did cartwheels in the police station after her friend's death, at this year's Edinburgh Fringe.
Stephanie Kercher told BBC Breakfast: "It's left a massive void in our lives, and Amanda is naturally free to continue with her life as she wishes, but I think the problem with this particular project is that it is comedy.

Liverpool's transfer window has reached a telling point. The names are glamorous, the prices severe, and the needs increasingly clear. According to The Athletic, the club have now "began preparing a formal approach for Bradley Barcola, the Paris Saint-Germain winger who is their top transfer target". That sentence alone captures both ambition and urgency.
There is no disguising the scale of the task facing Andoni Iraola in his first season as Liverpool head coach. He inherits a squad with obvious quality, but also one in flux, one hit by injuries, one still adapting after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign and one requiring shrewd, decisive surgery before the window closes. Liverpool are acting in the wide areas first, and that makes complete sense.
Barcola is the headline pursuit, and with good reason. The report states that "the wheels are in motion, and Liverpool want to do the deal at around £100million. PSG have indicated they value him at around £145m." That gap is substantial, but the very fact Liverpool are willing to enter the conversation tells its own story. This is a chase for an elite attacker, a player viewed as capable of refreshing the front line and restoring menace to the flanks.
It is a summer that demands clarity. Liverpool have already lost Mohamed Salah, and Hugo Ekitike's long-term injury has further thinned the attack. In that context, the Barcola pursuit feels far more than opportunistic. It looks essential.
The Athletic's ***** sment is straightforward and persuasive: "Bringing in the Frenchman would certainly be a statement signing, and significantly boost an attacking line that is depleted following the exit of Mohamed Salah and the long-term loss of Hugo Ekitike to injury." Liverpool's thinking hardly needs translating. They need speed, invention, penetration and goals from wide positions, and Barcola appears to fit that brief.

It wasn't a pretty opening to the series, but the Yankees found their way Monday night in Chicago. Max Fried struggled mightily in his second start returning from the IL, putting them in a big hole early with an offense that hasn't been ****** e to exploding lately, but a pair of big innings turned this game from a deficit to a 9-5 win.
Last time out Fried was extremely sharp, going five strong despite a low pitch limit blanking the Pirates with just a single hit and walk going against him. Randal Grichuk greeted him with a leadoff double, and the wheels fell off from there. Munetaka Murakami followed up with a single to put runners on the corners, and after Fried struck out Miguel Vargas for the first out of the inning Colson Montgomery ripped a single to the right side that Jazz Chisholm Jr. barely couldn't corral scoring Grichuk. Chase Meridoth was up next and lifted a sacrifice fly to bring in a second run, and then Braden Montgomery lined a triple over the head of a diving Max Schuemann that brought in a third. It looked like Schuemann might've gotten messed up leaping for the ball, which would've complicated things for a Yankees team that is already down two of their starting outfielders, but thankfully he shook it off and stayed in the game.

Fried calmed down from there, working two straight clean frames, but the Yankee offense wasn't getting anything going at first against the rookie Noah Schultz, who entered the game with a gaudy 6.04 ERA. Paul Goldschmidt managed a two-out single in the top of the first, but the lineup otherwise went down in order the first time through. The fourth inning finally saw them break though, starting off with a pair of walks from Ben Rice and Goldschmidt to set up a rally. Jasson Domínguez singled to left but it was hit hard enough to prevent a run from coming in, bringing Anthony Volpe up with the bases loaded and no outs. Volpe managed to bring in a run, hitting a soft grounder to short that Luisangel Acuña was just barely able to scoop up and throw to first in time to convert an out from the play.
That would be all for Schultz, as the White Sox went to their 'pen and brought in Chris Murphy. The tide was turning though, and Chisholm provided the big blow of the inning with a double out to center to tie the game at three. Chisholm then stole third base on a head's up play noticing that the catcher was lazily flicking the ball back to the pitcher, and José Caballero walked to pass the baton over to Spencer Jones. Jones managed to convert, fighting off three foul ****** before grounding a ball in front of Caballero who was running on the pitch to prevent a double play opportunity and give the Yankees a 4-3 lead.

Tesla kicked off earnings season — at least for this sector — and the shareholder letter, along with Elon Musk's remarks during the conference call, provided some pretty incredible disclosures I imagine have some investors concerned, or at least puzzled.
Tesla has backed off previous promises to reach "volume production" of the Cybercab, Tesla Semi, and Megapack 3 in 2026. And while the company has publicly touted expansions of its Tesla Robotaxi service into new cities in Florida and Texas, the quarter-over-quarter data shows a drop in paid robotaxi miles.
Senior reporter Sean O'Kane took a closer look at a graph shared in Tesla's shareholder letter. At a passing glance, the chart appears to show steady growth in paid robotaxi rides between August 2025 and June 2026, O'Kane notes. But the numbers displayed are **** ulative, and when broken down by quarter, they show that Tesla's Robotaxi fleet of Model Y SUVs carrying paying passengers covered around 1.1 million miles in the first quarter. That fell to roughly 700,000 miles in the second quarter, a decline of about 36%.
Musk also disclosed during the call that Tesla needs to accumulate driving data specific to the Cybercab before it can put large numbers of the vehicles on the road. That isn't terribly surprising; the Cybercab is new, after all. But the reason got my attention. He explained that Tesla has to accumulate miles using Cybercabs retrofitted with steering wheels and accelerator and braking pedals so it can calibrate to the Cybercab chassis.

This comes amid confirmation on the part of some of the most reliable sources in the European media that Los Blancos are now actively working on a deal for the 30-year-old.
Bernabéu insider Mario Cortegana is one such source, with the Spaniard having revealed that the key factor in the wheels being set in motion is a complete change in stance on the part of Florentino Pérez and co.

'Madrid sources had kept insisting this summer that Rodri was not part of their plans, but the club's stance has changed following his return from the World Cup, with the performance level he demonstrated and the role he played in Spain's triumph a factor in their decision to pursue him.'

Aaron Donald continues to work out as he contemplates coming out of retirement, training both privately at the Los Angeles Rams' facility and at home in videos that he's been posting on Instagram.
Drew Brees has seen some of the workouts Donald has posted and it leaves no doubt in his mind that the All-Pro pass rusher could realistically return to the Rams. In an interview with USA TODAY Sports, Brees said he "absolutely" thinks there's a real chance Donald comes back because of the favorable situation he'd be put in.
"I do. I absolutely do," Brees said. "I absolutely do because first off, I've watched the guy on Instagram and he looks like he's staying in pretty good shape. I mean, I'm still pretty scared of him," Brees said. "For him to sit there and go, 'Wait a minute, you mean I can come back, I don't have to play a full game, I can play between 20, 25 snaps a game, it's always going to be a pass rush, I'm always going to be matched up against the worst offensive lineman and all the attention is going to Myles Garrett and some of these other monsters up there? Like, yeah, why not?' And truly make a Super Bowl run, I think that temptation might be too much for him to pass up."
The Rams' acquisition of Garrett is what got the ball rolling and the wheels spinning in Donald's mind. He's never thought about returning before, but with the chance to pair with another multi-time Defensive Player of the Year, Donald is seriously thinking about it.
Adam Schefter of ESPN says it'll be "a while" before we get a final decision from Donald but it's a very real possibility that he comes out of retirement after watching from the sidelines for the last two years.

With the historic Grand Départ of the Tour taking place in Barcelona this year, Pogačar's team has been spending the last few days riding and scouting sections of the route. A huge cycling fan and a regular on these roads as part of his own physical preparation, Marc found time in his schedule to ride alongside one of the biggest names in world cycling.

The summer transfer window has been sparking major excitement in the white half of North London so far, and AC Milan winger Rafael Leao has opened the door to a move to Tottenham Hotspur due to his desire to play in the Premier League. And could he even get on to the court in the first place as he would need to dismantle his wheelchair to get through the gate?
But he had invented a sport and would do whatever it took to play it.
Parks was on a family picnic when he had his lightbulb moment 50 years ago.

Marc van der Straten died at his home in Switzerland on July 5, at age 78. If your motorsport diet is heavy on GT3 and Blancpain results, you know his name from a BMW Z4 that tore through the Spa 24 Hours a decade ago. If you follow Grand Prix motorcycle racing, you know it from a Moto2 garage that quietly produced three world champions. What most people on either side of that divide don't realize is that it's the same man, running the same family operation, for the better part of three decades. That's the part of this story worth sitting with — not just the loss of a team owner, but the exit of one of the last people in professional racing who genuinely built something on both two wheels and four.
The timing makes it sting a little more. Seven days before he passed, a Boutsen VDS-run Porsche crossed the line eighth overall at the 79th running of the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, an event SRO Motorsports Group itself markets as the biggest GT race on the planet. Van der Straten was, by every account from people who worked with him, still fully engaged with that program. He didn't get a slow fade into retirement. He got one more finish on the board first.
Van der Straten came from the van der Straten-Ponthoz family, tied to the lineage behind Stella Artois, which tells you where the checkbook came from but not why he spent it on race cars. That part came from his father, a onetime racer himself, and it pointed young Marc toward a genuinely strange starting point: the Gillet Vertigo, a low-volume Belgian sports car that most enthusiasts outside the Ardennes have never heard of. Van der Straten ran it in the domestic Belcar series under the Belgian Racing banner before pushing into the international FIA GT Championship by 2005.
Here's the part that's easy to gloss over: the Vertigo program was never eligible to score points toward the actual GT championship, because ******* logation rules require a minimum number of road-going examples to exist before a manufacturer's race car can compete for a ******* le. Gillet never built enough Vertigos to clear that bar. Van der Straten was paying to go racing at the top level with a car that, on paper, couldn't win anything. That's either an expensive hobby or a serious statement about priorities, and by 2008 even he seemed to agree it was time to pivot.
The team rebranded as Marc VDS for 2009 and became a development partner for the Matech-built Ford GT1, which earned it one of twelve entries in the inaugural FIA GT1 World Championship in 2010 — a season that also included a Ford GT1 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a race the team wouldn't finish. The following year told a different story: a Kronos Racing/Marc VDS-entered Lola-Aston Martin LMP1 finished seventh overall at Le Mans with Vanina Ickx, Bas Leinders, and Maxime Martin sharing the car. If that surname looks familiar, yes, Vanina is Jacky Ickx's daughter, which is its own small piece of Belgian racing trivia buried inside a bigger one.

A little after 5 p.m. Thursday in midtown Manhattan, with the thermometer reading 101 but the heat of anticipation much higher, two older women from Idaho found some shade next to a sidewalk Taylor Swift billboard.

Along the street, a few Swifties waited and a few local TV crews scrambled to find them, to hear stories of how they grew up listening to Taylor and followed her personal life in parallel to their own and were so happy she found love.
