INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts offense may finish out the preseason without its top two receiving options at tight end.
Backup tight end Will Mallory missed Saturday's preseason loss to Atlanta with a thumb injury, days after the Colts lost star tight end Tyler Warren to a mild groin strain on the first day of joint practices against the Falcons. Mallory participated in Thursday's practice and it's unclear when he was injured.
Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen did not offer a timetable for Mallory's return. The fourth-year tight end, who opened the preseason by catching six passes for 80 yards against the Patriots, spent the entire 2025 season on the 53-man roster as insurance for Warren, although Warren stayed healthy enough as a rookie that Mallory rarely saw action.
Mallory has been one of the team's most productive receiving options throughout training camp.
The Colts offense has spent the entire training camp operating without its No. 1 receiver, Alec Pierce, and the team only signed veteran Keenan Allen this week to fill the hole in the starting up. With fewer reliable targets outside, Indianapolis quarterbacks have targeted the tight ends heavily, peppering passes to both Warren and Mallory.

Wilson is on the IL for the third time this season. He has a 115-game streak without committing an error, a major league record for a shortstop. Wilson, an All-Star last year, is hitting .266 with 37 RBIs in 80 games.
Kurtz, the 2025 AL Rookie of the Year, was placed on the 10-day IL on Aug. 4. He was batting .256 with 21 home runs and 69 RBIs in 99 games.

It was his first live game action of the summer after sitting out the previous week's contest against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Before the Texans' preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders on August 20, 2026, cameras caught Stroud performing an unusual-looking warm-up routine. Standing on the field in a Texans shirt with earbuds in, he held both thumbs up in front of him and rapidly shifted his eyes left and right between them.
He then moved his thumbs into a vertical position and tracked them up and down with the same quick eye movements. Stroud finished with a few other hand gestures and a thumbs-up near his face.

The San Francisco 49ers emphatically earned their first preseason win with a 41-17 (we can mention the final score this week since the 49ers won) thumping of the Los Angeles Chargers.
It was a thorough beating from the 49ers, who dominated the Chargers in all three facets of the game. A win that will likely keep Jim Harbaugh up late on Thursday night, an attitude that 49ers fans are far too familiar with. But as upset as Harbaugh will be, Kyle Shanahan will be just as excited, as there wasn't much to complain about – outside of that little left guard issue, which Austen Pleasants is apparently very involved in.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters after practice on Thursday at Missouri Western State University. He shared his biggest takeaways from this year's training camp.
"Yeah, I'll tell you, they worked. They worked hard, and I appreciated that. I thought we made progress. I mentioned before, I think it's the young guys that you're really looking at here. The Chiefs veterans were determined throughout the training camp session to be prepared and ready for the start of the new season after a disappointing 2025 campaign. Reid also praised the new rookie class for contributing to the camp's success.
"You could take that rookie class and look at them. They all, I thought, had their day, and they've added some consistency to their game," said Reid. "We always talk about stacking days and improving every day and find one thing you can work on to get better at all those. All the same, I thought they handled that and tried to do that. So, you could take that whole class there, and I'd give them a thumbs up on how they went about their business."
Rookies Cyrus Allen and Kahlil Benson were often mentioned for their standout moments, helping their upward trajectory on the depth chart. The Chiefs return to normal practices at the team facility, and the final two preseason games will help determine the 53-man roster.

When one watches highlights of the Oregon Ducks football team from last season, Dante Moore sticks out like a sore thumb.
In a good way.
The Oregon quarterback was impressive for the vast majority of that season, and it's quite obvious why Moore has a great chance to bring home the program's second Heisman Trophy. The Ducks were going to be a good team in 2026 whether Moore went into the NFL or not, but when he decided to stay, that lone decision turned Oregon from a good team to a national championship contender.
Even with his great season from a year ago, Moore had to work on some things in order to become an elite quarterback and possibly the No. 1 pick in the 2027 NFL draft. According to Ducks quarterback coach Koa Ka'ai, the fourth-year signal-caller has made all those improvements and then some.
"He's taken a big leap this offseason in regard to defensive recognition and really understanding what all 11 guys on the field are doing, and then just kind of taking that next level step in holding guys accountable," Ka'ai said. "You know, being that vocal guy out there. He's not a first-year starter here anymore. This is his third year in the program, so he's taking a huge leap in that regard."

Smith received the "Thumbs Down" award at the NABJ's Saturday night gala in Atlanta, an dishonor given to individuals or institutions conducting "especially insensitive, racist or stereotypical reporting, commentary, photography or cartooning about the Black community or for engaging in practices at odds with the goals of NABJ."
With the "Thumbs Down" award typically being reserved for institutions, Smith, who brought First Take to the NABJ convention in 2024, is just the fourth individual to win the organization's biggest dishonor.
"Smith has established a recurring public pattern of disparaging commentary directed at prominent Black women across politics, sports, and media," the organization explained Saturday. "Such commentary reinforces harmful narratives, undermines the fair and respectful representation of Black women in public discourse, and stands in direct conflict with NABJ's longstanding commitment to accurate, responsible, and inclusive portrayals of Black communities."
Despite the pointed insult, the ESPN star and newfound political pundit still credited the NABJ for helping his career, calling it the "preeminent Black journalism organization existing." But Smith was blindsided by winning the award, and if the NABJ and its president Errin Haines sought to catch his attention, they succeeded. Smith responded Monday afternoon with a 45-minute retort on his YouTube channel.

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The Athletics lost another slugger when they placed outfielder Tyler Soderstrom on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with a left hip impingement.
The 24-year-old Soderstrom is batting .245 with 19 homers and 56 RBIs in 109 games this season. He set career highs with 25 homers, 93 RBIs and a .276 batting average in 158 games last year.
The Athletics already were playing without first baseman Nick Kurtz and catcher Shea Langeliers. Kurtz is on the IL with a right thumb injury that could sideline him for the rest of the year. Langeliers had season-ending surgery on his right knee last month.

The German double winners often post fitness updates the day after a match but are staying coy on Musiala, who has been battling back to fitness after a leg break just over a year ago.

The man who managed the Houston Astros to their first World Series appearance officially joined their franchise Hall of Fame on Saturday. Phil Garner, the tough former infielder and manager, was inducted posthumously by the team with which he spent more than a decade of a long baseball career.
"Phil learned about this honor not long before he passed," said Garner's wife, Carol. "And he wasn't smiling much in those days. But for that, he did."
Garner and former catcher and broadcaster Alan Ashby entered the Astros' Hall of Fame prior to their game against the Mariners at Daikin Park. They joined the 22 other inductees who played for the club, while Ashby joins four others who were broadcasters.
Garner, who died in April at age 76 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, played seven seasons of a 16-year major-league career with Houston and later managed the Astros for parts of four seasons. But his ties to the franchise and city transcended both tenures.
"He'd been a big leaguer - playing, coaching or managing - for 33 years, he had a World Series ring from Pittsburgh. But this honor reached him differently," Carol Garner said in a press conference. "Because Houston was never just a stop for us. Yes, he played managed and coached in other places. But we made Houston our home and have been here a long time."

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. didn't end his Rogers Centre home run drought Friday night against the New York Yankees; however, he did make serious contact in the sixth inning — with the knee of Yankees rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr., that is.
His worrisome collision at third base took place amid a head-scratching sequence that saw the Yankees flub a double-play opportunity. A chopper from George Springer was corralled by Ryan McMahon, who stepped on the third-base bag and fired a toss to first. But it needed a bounce to reach first, where Luis García Jr.'s glove popped off as he tried to stab the ball for the inning-ending out.
García got on his horse, collected the ball, turned and whipped it back to third. The problem was, no one was covering the bag. As Lombard attempted to chase down the throw, he ran into a sliding Guerrero, who weathered a blow to the head before wincing on his way home for Toronto's first run in a 3-1 series-opening victory over the Yankees (68-54).
The Blue Jays (60-64), now only one game back of the final wild-card spot in the American League after selling at the trade deadline, improved to 6-2 in their past eight games, in large part thanks to catcher Alejandro Kirk. He scored Springer in the sixth with a two-out double. Then he launched a solo shot in the eighth.
Guerrero, though, didn't return to the game after the thump he endured. He finished 1-for-3 with a single.

The 24-year-old Dane has been in Italy since 2023 when making the move from Aarhus to Udinese for €5m.
Following 81 competitive appearances for the Friulani, where he scored four goals and provided one ******* ist, he is now continuing his career in Serie A for Atalanta.
Multiple sources confirmed that the clubs shook hands on a deal worth €22m plus €3m in add-ons, while Udinese will also retain a 10 per cent cut of any future sale fee.
Sky Sport Italia cameras were ready to meet Kristensen as he arrived at the Zingonia training ground in Bergamo, where he stopped to salute a young fan and give the thumbs up.
