NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump said Friday that he was barring CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House due to what he called unfavorable coverage and "fake news," and threatened that more such media bans could be coming — the latest salvo in the president's increasingly aggressive response to media coverage he finds unfavorable.
Like many of Trump's other confrontations with news organizations — some of which are playing out in the legal arena — this threat has potential First Amendment implications. There was no immediate indication, though, that he was following through.
Trump wrote on his social media site that effective immediately, "I am banning" CNN, MS NOW and Politico "from the White House as a result of their constant 'reporting' FAKE NEWS!" Minutes later, speaking at an event in the Oval Office, Trump was asked to explain his statement.
"Because they're fake news," he said. "You get so tired of reading and seeing fake news. When you look at CNN, it's just fake. That's why their ratings are no good. When you look at MS NOW … , it's fake news."
"And when you look at Politico ... the stories they wrote are fake. So there's a lot of news and there may be others to join them, and maybe they can get better," he said. "But our country has to have honest news."

Sept 16 (Reuters) - An unsettled few days set the scene for the week's main event: the Federal Reserve's policy decision. Markets overwhelmingly expect a quarter-point rate hike, the central bank's first since 2023, against the backdrop of resurgent oil prices and a 10-year Treasury yield that's recently breached the ‌important 5% mark.
A rate increase could put Fed Chair Kevin Warsh on a collision course with the White House, given President Donald Trump's continued preference for easing ‌policy. But given all the economic data supporting calls for a hike, Warsh risks losing credibility if the central bank stays on hold.
Today's decision - and the messaging surrounding it - will be a major test for Warsh. The Fed chair struck a hawkish tone at Jackson Hole last month and, with U.S. inflation still running above target and the unemployment rate still low, policymakers risk undermining their credibility if they don't follow through and lift the benchmark rate to the 3.75%-4.00% range.
That's as Donald Trump continues to push for the U.S. to have the lowest borrowing costs in the world. The U.S. president recently threatened to stop trading with some countries if the Fed does not cut rates, though markets have not taken that threat very seriously.

President Trump reacted to Wednesday's Fed rate hike, saying "Interest Rates in the United States should be 1%, or less" and acknowledging he discussed with Kevin Warsh the Fed chair's plans for how to vote ahead of time.
"I talked to Kevin and I said, 'you might as well vote with the board because it's not going to matter,'" Trump told reporters Wednesday evening.
The Federal Open Market Committee voted unanimously Wednesday to raise rates by 25 basis points, its first hike in three years and the first under Warsh.
The president, who has spent more than a year calling for lower rates, first posted on Truth Social that rates should be dropping and that the trade deficit was a reason to "LOWER THE INTEREST RATES FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND FAST!" days after he threatened to stop trading with countries that have a trade deficit unless the Fed cuts rates.
Later Wednesday, when he was asked by reporters if he still has confidence in Warsh, Trump said he did, but said "he's got a very tough board." He called the FOMC "a bunch of politicians."

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr accused Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico of banking on public confusion over the equal time statute to drive clicks and donations.
Last week, Talarico appeared on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," but the liberal late-night host insisted the interview had to air on YouTube, instead of broadcast television, because the FCC has "threatened" the network.
The White House previously said Kimmel was "play-acting," because the FCC did not threaten him regarding interviewing Talarico, or any other candidate.
Carr responded on Saturday to an account on X that complained Talarico was relegated to YouTube, but Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, was allowed to appear on ESPN's "College Gameday." The chairman blasted Talarico, noting that the equal time statute doesn't apply to ESPN and does not prohibit anyone from interviewing anyone on broadcast TV.

Tommy McMillen vs. Marwan Rahiki squared off in a Featherweight bout earlier this morning (Sat., Sept. 12, 2026) inside Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona for Noche UFC 4. After a wild and ****** fight, McMillen was named the victor.
McMillen opened the fight with an overhand right and a surprising takedown. He tried to threaten an arm triangle, but Rahiki quickly escaped to his feet. Back in the standup, the two wasted little time in throwing powerful punches. The range widened, and the two young Featherweights traded kicks. Rahiki got on the front foot and put his opponent on the defensive. His chin was really high though …
Rahiki hit the body and timed a gorgeous right hand. McMillen tied together his kicks and punches, opening a small cut by Rahiki's eye. Two hard right hands connected for McMillen, but "Freaky" fired right back. At the close of the competitive opening round, the two mouthed off at one another as the referee kept them apart.
McMillen was active to start round two, throwing a lot of volume and landing a particularly stiff jab. McMillen threatened a guillotine choke to gain top position but couldn't hold down Rahiki. Rahiki kicked the calf and then started ripping the body to great effect. McMillen's nose was bleeding, but he scored a heavy left hand that wobbled his opponent briefly.
Out of nowhere, a Rahiki counter uppercut floored McMillen! Rahiki turned up the offense and landed a bunch of cracking shots. Somehow, McMillen was able to survive and even land a big right hand of his own a minute later. McMillen started to build some offense on his fatigued opponent, including a late takedown that saw him finish the round with some submission attempts.

More news keeps dropping regarding Sam Darnold's hip injury, and it continues to be relatively positive for the Seattle Seahawks quarterback.
Netflix's NFL Insider Tom Pelissero reported Thursday night that tests revealed that Darnold has "an unusual muscle strain in his hip area."
Per the report, the Seahawks initially feared that Darnold had sustained a fractured hip socket that could have threatened his season. Testing ruled that injury out.
Darnold will seek further opinions on the injury, per the report, but injured reserve is not being considered at this point. As previously reported, Drew Lock is expected to start in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals. Beyond that, Darnold's game status is unclear.
Lock took over at quarterback after Darnold's injury on the first drive Wednesday night and led a 13-10 comeback win over the New England Patriots in the NFL's season opener.

BLOOMINGTON — Eight athletes, including IU football players Kellan Wyatt and Stephen Daley, were granted a temporary restraining order in an Indiana circuit court Friday, restoring for the moment their eligibility to play college sports.
Filed and granted in Monroe County Circuit Court, the TRO ****** erts that the plaintiffs "have shown by verified pleading and supporting evidence that immediate and irreparable injury will occur before notice can be served and a hearing held."
"The Court further finds that the plaintiffs have demonstrated a probable right to relief," the order states, "and that the threatened injury outweighs any temporary burden imposed by this Order pending an expedited hearing."
Importantly, the order is not lasting. That hearing will be held at 9 a.m., Friday, Sept. 11, in Monroe Circuit Court, where the court will hear the plaintiffs' motion for a temporary injunction, a firmer legal decision.

Ben Shelton needed four sets to get through his second-round matchup at the U.S. Open, but the former Florida star rallied and advanced to the third round for a fourth consecutive year. He is the only left-handed American man to accomplish that feat over the past 30 years.
Shelton defeated Hubert Hurkacz 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 on Wednesday at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The No. 8 seed struck 44 winners against 35 unforced errors and found another gear in the biggest moments of the match.
"I am super happy with the way the match went," Shelton said afterward. "It was a battle until the end, and I thought Hubi played outstanding today."
Shelton won the opening set before Hurkacz answered in the second. Neither player gave much away in the third, but Shelton controlled the tiebreak 7-3 — just as he did in the first round against Tallon Griekspoor — to regain the lead.

Joshua Kushner – the brother of Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner – has expressed regret at becoming involved in the controversial plans of Fifa president Gianni Infantino to sell off stakes in the World Cup to private investment.
Kushner is the founder and chief executive of venture capital firm Thrive Capital, and had held talks with Infantino about heading up a $4.2bn (£3.1bn) investment in 20 per cent of a proposed new Fifa commercial subsidiary, Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE).
However, the idea was abandoned just days after it was revealed amid a huge backlash and Uefa is now preparing to bring a criminal complaint against Infantino in Switzerland for "criminal mismanagement".

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Transfer quarterback Beau Pribula dazzled in his Virginia debut as the Cavaliers drilled visiting North Carolina State 34-8 in the season and ACC opener for both squads on Saturday at Scott Stadium.
Pribula, who started his career at Penn State and played last season at Missouri, threw for 155 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another 110 yards, becoming the first Virginia quarterback to run for 100 yards in a game since Brennan Armstrong in 2022.
Behind a balanced offense and stifling defense, the Cavaliers jumped out to a 17-0 lead headed into halftime.

Birmingham City beat Wrexham 2-1 at the Racecourse Ground, with centre-back Phil Neumann scoring twice to secure all three points.
Neumann opened the scoring from close range in the 13th minute before Callum Doyle levelled for Wrexham shortly after half-time. The hosts had started to build momentum at that stage, but Birmingham responded quickly and Neumann struck again in the 63rd minute, heading home August Priske's cross.
Wrexham pushed for another equaliser late on and Kieffer Moore forced James Beadle into a save, while Sam Smith also missed from close range. Birmingham, though, managed the final stages well enough to protect their lead and see out the win.

Alberta's Premier Danielle Smith has rejected the idea of slapping export taxes on crude oil exports to the United States in retaliation for the Trump administration's tariff salvo against Ottawa, saying they would be damaging to Canada.
"Although I understand the need to respond strongly to these tariffs, I cannot think of a more disastrous policy decision than cutting off or taxing Alberta's oil to the United States," Smith said as quoted by Global News, adding that the move would trigger a disproportionate tariff response from the United States that could hurt the Canadian economy.
"It would not only extinguish the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of Albertans, it would economically hobble our friends and neighbors in other provinces to the east," she said, warning of millions of jobs getting lost as a result of the tariff war.
Alberta exports about 4 million barrels of crude oil daily to the United States. Last year, the total value of these exports stood at about $80 billion. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is expected to reveal details of the administration's sanctions plans against Iran later today after President Donald Trump threatened the country with "economic D-Day."
The Federal Reserve will hold its annual symposium beginning Thursday, with Chairman Kevin Warsh expected to deliver a speech on Friday.
"Warsh is scheduled to deliver keynote remarks on Friday, and markets will be looking for greater clarity on both his ******* sment of inflation and the broader 'regime change' he has advocated at the Fed," said Daniela Hathorn, senior market ******* yst at Capital.com.

President Donald Trump threatened to raise tariffs on Canadian cars, trucks, auto parts and steel to 50% from January 1, 2027, after US-Canada trade talks collapsed.
The market did not wait for the fine print. Stellantis shares fell roughly 3% in Paris and U.S.-linked trading, while Ford and General Motors also dropped as investors priced in higher costs for North American supply chains. US steelmakers moved the other way, with Cleveland-Cliffs, Nucor and Steel Dynamics rallying on the prospect that tariffs on Canadian steel could support domestic pricing.
