FLA's new guidance offers a "strategic approach and concrete recommendations" informed by labour rights standards and frameworks, including its work with the Responsible Purchasing Practices Working Group. It is based on FLA's learnings from evaluating over 50 companies' responsible purchasing and production practices over the last decade; insights gleaned from conversations with buyers; and more.
"Purchasing decisions directly influence working conditions in supply chains," said FLA vice president of research & development in social compliance Tiffany Rogers. "Cost negotiations, payment terms, and lead times are just a few of the elements companies must consider in light of their impact on workers. Our latest guidance is designed to help businesses develop clear processes for working responsibly with suppliers that avoid creating risks for both workers and business operations."
Just Style coverage yesterday on the back of data from ESG ratings agency EcoVadis, revealed most UK retailers currently have no mechanism in place for workers to safely report labour rights abuse. EcoVadis ***** sed nearly 3,000 suppliers to UK retailers, 242 of which were based in countries classified as high risk for labour and human rights abuses.
While 72% of these suppliers had a written human rights policy in place, 56% had no formal channel available for workers to safely report labour-rights issues such as unpaid wages, harassment or forced labour conditions.
"FLA to issue new guidance on responsible purchasing practices" was originally created and published by Just Style, a GlobalData owned brand.

Oil prices have soared in recent months as a result of the almost complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key trade corridor connecting Asia and Europe. High fossil fuel prices have helped to drive up the profits of oil and gas companies around the globe, particularly in the United States and Europe. As a few companies boost production to fill the gap, some oil majors have seen record earnings in the first half of the year, a trend that is expected to continue for as long as Hormuz trade remains restricted.
Eight of the largest oil firms achieved combined profits of over $90 billion in the three months from April to June, following the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran and the subsequent war. Iran's decision to close the Strait of Hormuz, the waterway between Oman and Iran that connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, has led to the biggest disruption of fossil fuel supplies in the market's history. As a few oil majors from the United States, Europe, and the Middle East step in to fill the gap and oil prices are pushed higher, a few companies have come out on top.
The phenomenon has also demonstrated that the world remains overly dependent on fossil fuels, with countries willing to pay a premium to secure their oil and gas supplies in the face of major global shortages. Environmentalists are concerned about what this reliance means for climate change, as greenhouse emissions remain high. The lack of energy diversification and the heavy dependence on fossil fuels also poses a threat to energy security for many countries.
The eight companies ***** sed – Aramco, BP, Shell, Equinor, TotalEnergies, Eni, Chevron, and ExxonMobil – have almost doubled their combined profits, from just below $50 billion in the second quarter of 2025. The increase in oil prices has driven up consumer energy bills worldwide, while oil companies continue to profit. This has reignited the discussion around windfall tax, as governments call for oil companies to pay higher levies to subsidise energy bills and environmentalists believe extra taxes could help pay to address the environmental damage caused by oil operations.
The Brent Benchmark put oil prices at around $68 a barrel at the end of February, rising to highs of nearly $100 a barrel in May. Saudi Arabia's Aramco benefited the most from the price increase over the spring, reporting a 34 per cent rise in its quarterly net income, at over $33 billion. Aramco saw high profits even following damage to its infrastructure by drone and missile strikes from Iranian and Houthi forces. The company's record oil sales meant that it was responsible for more carbon emissions than any company in history, according to the database Carbon Majors.

After the National ******* ociation of Black Journalists accused Stephen A. Smith of disparaging Black women, Stephen A. Smith is accusing the NABJ of conducting a personal hit job.
Smith received the "Thumbs Down" award at the NABJ's Saturday night gala in Atlanta, an dishonor given to individuals or institutions conducting "especially insensitive, racist or stereotypical reporting, commentary, photography or cartooning about the Black community or for engaging in practices at odds with the goals of NABJ."
With the "Thumbs Down" award typically being reserved for institutions, Smith, who brought First Take to the NABJ convention in 2024, is just the fourth individual to win the organization's biggest dishonor.
"Smith has established a recurring public pattern of disparaging commentary directed at prominent Black women across politics, sports, and media," the organization explained Saturday. "Such commentary reinforces harmful narratives, undermines the fair and respectful representation of Black women in public discourse, and stands in direct conflict with NABJ's longstanding commitment to accurate, responsible, and inclusive portrayals of Black communities."
Despite the pointed insult, the ESPN star and newfound political pundit still credited the NABJ for helping his career, calling it the "preeminent Black journalism organization existing." But Smith was blindsided by winning the award, and if the NABJ and its president Errin Haines sought to catch his attention, they succeeded. Smith responded Monday afternoon with a 45-minute retort on his YouTube channel.

Louisville finished last season with a top-20 defense when it comes to yards per game and yards per play. Then they shuffled the defensive staff, with Mark Ivey and Steve Ellis taking over as coordinators. While injuries were a major problem for the Cards last season, I think it would be tough to find someone who would place the blame on the defense over the offense for the issues last year. This group was responsible for a handful of the wins last year, and they returned a key group of players at linebacker to help repeat that success.
Stanquan Clark returns to lead the group after an injury limited him to just five games across the season. Clark was due for a big year after finishing 2024 with 7.5 tackles for loss. That big year will have to come this season as he becomes the veteran of the group with TJ Quinn graduating.
Louisville will need Clark to be the complete player that he showed the ability to be two years ago. The staff beefed up the pass rush, so Clark might not be blitzing all too often, but he will continue to be a downhill force against the run. He has shown a great ability to shoot gaps and blow up blocking schemes. He will have to continue to do so while also being a reliable player in coverage.
The interception against Miami gets the focus, but TJ Capers had a solid season for a guy who was a part-time starter. Capers finished the SMU game with 8 tackles and put up 3 tackles for loss on the year. The skills were evident, and as the season progressed, he was able to show that the experience he was gaining was paying off with his play. The Cards will need Capers to take the leap to match his five-star recruit status this season so that he can help replace the loss of TJ Quinn.
The true potential star of the defense is Antonio Watts, and I personally think he could be a full step ahead of anyone else on the team. Watts is a freakish athlete with great size and a motor that doesn't stop. He has shown that he can blitz off the edge, set the edge as a run defender, and play deep safety and make plays on the ball down the field. The only question left to be answered is if Watts can be the face of this defense and be a truly consistent playmaker. This isn't a knock on his performance, but the Cards need a superstar, and he can be that for this defense.

There were plenty of positives from the Pittsburgh Steelers' preseason beatdown of the Green Bay Packers. But there was also a lot to be concerned about, as Steelers legend James Harrison just pointed out.
On a recent episode of the Deebo & Joe podcast, Harrison called out the Steelers' offensive line woes, specifically when it comes to penalties and Dylan Cook's performance at right tackle. He went so far as to call on the team to get rookie offensive tackle Max Iheanachor involved as a solution.
"My concern was a little bit with the [first-team] offensive line," Harrison said. "Penalties, number one. And then Cook on that right side, I don't know. I didn't like that performance, I ain't going to lie. … I've seen [Cook], you know how you do the hand slap and you knock them down? That's cool one time, but I think he's relying on that a little too much cause he might not have an anchor. Got to get more anchor. I want to see Iheanachor, I want to see Iheanachor out there."
In Cook's defense, Troy Fautanu's performance wasn't much better, as the 2024 first-rounder was responsible for a sack, a few quarterback pressures, and a handful of unnecessary penalties, including a holding call that wiped away a touchdown.
Still, Harrison hit the nail on the head. Iheanachor has looked dominant in training camp and may deserve a starting opportunity over Cook in the near future. But that all depends on Iheanachor's overall health, as the young offensive tackle suffered an apparent neck/shoulder injury that held him out of the preseason opener.

Sonny Styles records three tackles, takes on surprising role in first NFL action originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Linebacker Sonny Styles got his first taste of NFL action, and while the rookie didn't deliver a highlight-filled performance, he was handed plenty of responsibility from the start.
Styles played during the opening series, a 14-play Miami touchdown drive that immediately tested the young linebacker and the defense. He finished his appearance with three tackles but wasn't a major factor in slowing down the Dolphins' offense.
Still, the most noteworthy part of Styles' debut might have been what was on his helmet.
Styles wore the green dot, meaning he was responsible for receiving the defensive play calls from the sideline and communicating them to his teammates. Giving that responsibility to a rookie in his first preseason action showed the level of trust the coaching staff already has in his ability to process information and command the defense.

This week, Smith was voted for an award by the National ****** ociation of Black Journalists (NABJ). However, it was not a flattering award. According to multiple reports, Smith received the organization's "Thumbs Down" award.

The Baltimore Ravens have spent much of training camp managing expectations surrounding Nnamdi Madubuike's recovery. Though some may not admit to this now, few, if they're being honest, expected the two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle to immediately return to full participation this quickly after undergoing neck surgery in April.
Still, each week seems to bring another positive update. The latest came Wednesday when defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver spoke with the media and discussed Madubuike's progress following practice. For Weaver, the signs have been impossible to ignore.
"He looks phenomenal. I know he wants to be just doing everything he can to be back out there, and when he is out there, I expect him to look like the Nnamdi we have grown to know and love throughout the years."
That endorsement carries weight coming from the man responsible for coordinating Baltimore's defense. Those also viewing practice from the field level express similar takeaways. According to ESPN's Jamison Hensley, Madubuike participated in positional drills for the first time during training camp after spending the opening weeks limited primarily to individual work.
There has never been much reason for Baltimore to rush Madubuike's return. The Ravens know exactly what they have in one of the NFL's most disruptive interior defenders. Before the injury setback, Madubuike had established himself as one of the cornerstones of Baltimore's defense and a player capable of impacting games as both a run defender and pass rusher.

Ty Simpson stats, highlights today: How Rams rookie QB excelled in preseason debut vs. Chiefs originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Ty Simpson has been no stranger to some offseason criticism, some of which started the second he heard his name called in the upper half of the draft's opening round back in April. On Saturday afternoon, some of that backlash was quelled when he guided the Los Angeles Rams to a 20-12 preseason win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Simpson was an integral factor that kept Los Angeles ahead of Kansas City, responsible for 190 out of the Rams' 321 yards on the offensive side of the ball.
The former Alabama Crimson Tide star also pitched in two touchdowns and looked incredibly comfortable in the pocket.
After an offseason filled with doubt from NFL fans, here's how the 2026 No. 13 overall pick did in LA's preseason opener.

The brass at Real Madrid have been responsible for the best part of half of the spending on the transfer market in Spain's top-flight across the summer to date.
This of course comes as Florentino Pérez and co. continue work towards building a squad capable of wrestling back La Liga supremacy from arch rivals Barcelona this coming season.
Los Blancos, thus far this summer, have secured the signings of six players. Two have come in the form of free transfers, namely Ibrahima Konaté and Bernardo Silva.
The other four, though, have required those in a position of power at the Santiago Bernabéu to open their chequebook.
To tie up deals for Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella, Yan Diomandé and Carlos Espí, Real Madrid have been forced to part with a collective €225 million. And as since revealed by Spanish outlet Diario AS, putting this outlay into perspective:

MILAN (AP) — Italian authorities recovered three artworks by Renoir, Cézanne and Matisse worth millions of euros that were stolen earlier this year from a private museum near the northern city of Parma, police said Friday. Five people were detained.
A statement from the Italian Carabinieri's art recovery squad said the artworks were discovered in the possession of one of the suspects during searches ordered by prosecutors in the Parma province and neighboring provinces. The five suspects detained are believed to belong to an organized crime group responsible for numerous thefts of homes, businesses and other properties. Police also recovered stolen goods worth tens of thousands of euros.
Meanwhile, Brazilian police said late Thursday they located eight stolen works by Matisse following an apartment raid outside Sao Paulo. There were no apparent links between the two thefts.
The three artworks recovered in Italy are "Fish," a painting by Auguste Renoir, "Still Life with Cherries," a pencil and watercolor by Paul Cézanne, and "Odalisque on the Terrace," a color aqatint by Henri Matisse. Authorities said the Cézanne was valued at 6 million euros ($7 million), the Renoir at 3 million euros ($3.5 million), and the Matisse at 20,000 euros ($23,000).
The heist at the Magnani Rocca Foundation, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Parma, took place on the night of March 22-23, police said. Video distributed by authorities showed the thieves entering through a broken door window and then taking the three artworks down from adjacent walls before exiting and escaping through the gardens in a matter of minutes.

WASHINGTON (AP) — It is among the most famous phrases in presidential history: " The buck stops here." Except with President Donald Trump, it almost never does.
Concerns about a weak economy and still-high inflation? His predecessor, Joe Biden, saddled him with that, he says, even though the Democrat has been out of office for 18-plus months and despite Trump once promising an immediate turnaround.
The problem-plagued revamp of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool? That was marred by vandalism, the Republican president insists, even though the office of a prosecutor he put in the job has said the damage was due to shoddy workmanship.
The increasingly unpopular war in Iran that has kept oil prices high, Trump's approval rating low and sent shock waves through the global economy? Actually, this was Trump making up for timid earlier presidents who, he argues, squandered nearly 50 years of opportunities to curb Tehran's nuclear ambitions.
Pithy slogans aside, all modern presidents shift responsibility onto others to some degree, frequently blaming the commander-in-chief who preceded them, Congress — or both. But Trump has taken it to a new level, effectively embracing a de facto political strategy of being in charge of everything but responsible for nothing when things go badly.

There are any number of ways to judge the performance of Courtney Morgan, the Alabama football general manager responsible for the all-important roles of recruiting coordination, transfer portal oversight, and overall roster management.
Talent level is one. Efficiency of NIL spending is another. And Trae'shawn Brown is a third.
Or at least, his circumstance is.
Last December, Alabama was set to make running back Javari Barnett part of its 2026 signing class. But Barnett, who had vacillated between UA and Illinois in the recruiting process, dropped UA and chose the Illini at the eleventh hour. Barnett also had offers from the likes of Penn State, Miami, Tennessee and Texas A&M, but when a player like that bails on a commitment too close to signing day, the vacancy can't always be filled by a player in similarly high demand.
The spot has to be backfilled by identifying an unknown like Brown. And whether than unknown can play at an SEC level is what makes GM's like Morgan good, or not as good, at what they do.

If you only know one celebrity stylist, it might be Rihanna's clothing curator turned editor-in-chief of Andy Warhol's Interview Magazine, Mel Ottenberg. Or, if you're a Bravo-head, you might know the Baroness of Boho, Rachel Zoe. But let's be honest, these days, chances are it's probably Law Roach, the famous stylist responsible for some of the best red carpet looks in recent years. Whether it's the inspired Hunter Schafer sci-fi moment at the 2021 Met Gala or that Zendaya hat, which has its own deep lore and so, so many memes, Roach knows a thing or two about putting a memorable look together.
But, what is it about the Southside Chicago native (and his eye for clothes) that's made him a household name? "He knows his worth," fashion writer Daniel Rogers told The Guardian. "He has fought hard to maintain that position: refusing to speak to journalists unless they use his name within a headline, and refusing to be a background figure to someone else's success," he added. "He brings real fashion capital — and entertainment — to an often staid celebrity landscape." So, let's take a look at the myriad ways this celebrated celebrity stylist has changed fashion forever.

What does it mean to be a stylist? It's looking at lookbooks, it's sourcing pieces, and it's presenting looks to clients. But, to Law Roach, it's so much more than that. All of the above notwithstanding, Roach is also a storyteller, an opinion-shifter, and a trendsetter. So, eschewing the stylist tag, Law Roach created a new job ***** le more befitting of his eclectic work that's about much more than just the clothes. In his words, he is an image architect.

Matthew Liberatore was his best self Friday afternoon as the St. Louis Cardinals entered the gauntlet of Wrigley Field to play the Cubs for the start of a crucial weekend series. The problem was that Cubs starter Clay Holmes was even better. The first 2/3 of the game was a scoreless and nearly hitless duel. Wheels would start to come off for the Cardinals in that last third of the game, though.
There are no offensive highlights to share with you from the first half of the game. However, there were a couple of defensive gems provided by the middle infield of the Cardinals. In the bottom of the 4th inning, Pete Crow-Armstrong was robbed by Masyn Winn. ROBBED!
The very next batter Suzuki was also denied base access, this time by future Gold Glove second baseman JJ Wetherholt. ROBBED AGAIN!
The Cubs would threaten to break through the scoring drought in the bottom of the 6th inning when Liberatore handed out a leadoff walk to Taylor. Dansby Swanson singled to center which gave Chicago runners at first and third with no outs. Matthew was able to get PCA to foul out to third for the first out, but that would be the end of Liberatore's strong outing Friday. George Soriano was brought in to face Suzuki. During his at-bat, Swanson stole second giving the Cubs two runners in scoring position. The stolen base wouldn't matter as Suzuki connected on an 88 mph changeup as it cleared the wall in left field traveling 390 feet and giving Chicago a 3-0 lead.
The Chicago Cubs 6th inning wasn't over yet as Soriano followed the Suzuki homer with a walk to Alex Bregman and a single to Michael Busch still with just one out. Fortunately, JJ Wetherholt and Masyn Winn combined on a double play on a grounder from Nico ******* ner to end the inning with the damage already being done. The final stat line for Matthew Liberatore would look less impressive than the eye test where he looked extremely sharp for the first 5 innings. Matthew tossed 5 1/3 innings striking out 6 and only walking 1, but those 2 earned runs that crossed the plate along with the 1 Soriano was responsible for were a killer.

The Coca-Cola Company (KO) has always had a knack for reinvention; that's why it has maintained its position as the global market leader for 140 years.
In recent years, as consumer tastes shifted toward healthier, sugar-free beverages, the company pivoted into bottled water, energy drinks, juices, coffees, and even dairy products, which allowed it to retain its roughly 40% share of the global beverage market.
But being seen in all the right places has always been one of ******* e's strongest marketing moves. Its presence at the FIFA World Cup helped propel another strong quarter, as the company reported net revenues of $13.4 billion, a 7% year-over-year increase. With EPS of $0.97, Coca-Cola beat Wall Street estimates by 4% and raised its full-year outlook to 5%.
Yet Coca-Cola didn't become the world's largest beverage company on its own. Behind its constant reinvention is a global workforce responsible for turning its strategy into sales.
Here's a look at Coca-Cola's employees in 2026, where they work, and how recent layoffs have reshaped its workforce.

There was no hangover for the Diamondbacks after their low-scoring series victory over the Dodgers. Indeed, the offense nearly matched the entire output there, in just the first four outs. That provided a nice, soft landing for Michael Soroka, in his return from the injured list, as he threw 4.1 scoreless innings, before being removed for pitch count purposes. Zack Littell made his D-backs debut, and was awarded the win for his 4.2 innings of relief. Arizona simply took care of business tonight at Chase Field, and as a result remain tied with the Phillies for the second wild-card spot, since Philadelphia also won, in St. Louis.
Before this season, the Diamondbacks had hit only five first inning grand-slams in team history – that's over a span north of 4,400 opening frames. The last came more than fifteen years ago, in April 2011, when Stephen Drew took Ryan Dempster deep. But the team has now done it twice this year, with Nolan Arenado the man responsible on both occasions. Amusingly, he has a Rockies appeal to thank for it. With two outs, Gabriel Moreno hit a triple that rattled around in the right-field corner. It looked he then scored on a wild pitch, but Colorado appealed, saying it hit Marte. A review confirmed this, so Gabi was sent back and Ketel took first. But instead of getting out of the frame, Lars Nootbaar drew a walk, which allowed Arenado to come up with the bases loaded. Just like on May 18 against Robbie Ray, this then happened.
View Link
Arizona put up another crooked number in the second inning. With one out, Ryan Waldschmidt singled, Geraldo Perdomo walked, and Corbin Carroll doubled home Waldschmidt for a 5-0 lead. A wild pitch added another run, and Marte drove in one more with a single. Through two innings, Arizona were 7-0 up, and they had made Colorado starter Gabriel Hughes throw 63 pitches. With Soroka having allowed one walk and no hits through two, it was a bit of a surprise that it was the D-backs starter who was the first to be replaced. Part of this was the Arizona offense taking a bit of a nap for the next few innings. Also, this was Soroka's first outing in the majors since June 19. He had only one rehab start, throwing 57 pitches for the Reno Aces.
Therefore, while it would have been nice to get him through five and qualify for the victory, a fairly long fourth inning (needing 22 pitches) put the dampers on that. After getting the first out in the fifth, Soroka threw an 8-pitch walk, and Torey Lovullo decided that was enough, at a total of 77 pitches. The final line: 4.1 shutout innings, on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Under normal circumstances, this might have been a bit of a problem. But new guy Zack Littell had been signed for exactly this, and had no pitch count limitation. He didn't make a great first impression, walking the first batter he faced on four pitches. However, he immediately dialed up a double-play to end the fifth. The DP was Arizona's friend tonight, with four being tu

A season ago, Kalani Sitake and BYU were on the precipice of making the College Football Playoff. The Cougars made it to the Big 12 Championship, where they fell to Texas Tech to just miss out on the 12-team bracket.
After an offseason that saw Penn State notably pursue Sitake for its head coach vacancy, the Cougars are now looking to keep the momentum with their headman returning to Provo. But as he looked ahead during a recent interview, he gave a lengthy response about the resources at the program's disposal.

However, he said the ability to be in that position could help keep BYU toward the top of the Big 12 and also play a role in a national ****** le push. Given the program's momentum, he called for more investment in the football program.
"I said before, I don't want to be the highest bidder," Sitake told CougarSports' Ben Criddle July 30. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — USA Swimming placed its chief financial officer, Cory Hilliard, on leave Monday after learning of his arrest on charges of theft and embezzlement at his previous job as an administrator in the University of Colorado athletic department.
The district attorney's office in Boulder said Hilliard is accused of misappropriating funds from the school's Nike Elite program for personal use. The DA said the school lost $9,510 due to Hilliard's actions.
Hilliard, 54, was hired last December as CFO of USA Swimming, which oversees the sport from the grassroots to the Olympic level in the U.S. The organization said it learned of his arrest Monday and "immediately placed Cory on leave and terminated all access to any company data and financial controls."
It said it was conducting its own investigation.
As the administrator for Colorado's Nike Elite program, Hilliard was "responsible for managing employee product benefit allocations," the DA's office said.

Well, the 24-year-old is back, and it would be irresponsible to get carried away with his five-inning, one-hit shutout performance here at Oracle Park Saturday, Aug. 8. So, we won't. But no one is saying you can't.
Or shouldn't – no one would blame you. Here was the third-overall pick from the 2021 draft showing why he was the third-overall pick in the 2021 draft.
A 100-mph pitch in the first inning? To the first batter? To get his first strikeout of the season?
Yes, yes, and yes, and it'd be silly to suggest it was anything other than electric, and also poised, for this isn't just a flamethrower. Jobe is a pitcher, with a four-pitch ***** nal, an ***** nal that should keep expanding, too.

A Disney animator behind classics such as "The Little Mermaid" and "Tangled" just got the opportunity to thank the first responders who saved him from a mountaintop during a hike.
About a week after the incident, Glen Keane, 72, said he was grateful for the team that made it happen.
"I think it's the most difficult thing for somebody to say: I can't, I need help. And I got to that point, and I was so thankful there was somebody I could call," Keane told KPNX in Phoenix. "I've done a lot of animated fairytales, but this was a real life one, and I really wanted to see the crew who were responsible for that."
Keane also presented the department with a tribute to his rescuers. It was a drawn picture of the rescue, showing all of the first responders, helicopters and reads "Our family helping your family."

Former President Barack Obama gave his infamous tan suit a comeback for a segment in Larry David's limited HBO series Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness.
"People always ask me where the tan suit came from. I think it's time the truth finally came out," Obama posted to X on Saturday, sharing part of the scene between him and David.
In the sketch, it turns out David is the one responsible for the fashion choice, which ignited a media firestorm after he wore it during a 2014 press conference. Obama received backlash from critics who felt the color choice was unpresidential. Today you the entire ordeal has its own Wikipedia page.
In the scene, Obama is getting ready for his press conference and David asks for a sip of his smoothie, a request Obama refuses.
When the president leaves the room, David sneaks a sip and ends up ruining the navy blue suit that Obama planned to wear. He then tries distracting Obama by recommending the tan suit because it's "casual Friday."

Aug. 8—BEMIDJI — By Week 6 of the 2025 Bemidji State football season, the Beavers finally found a winning recipe at the quarterback position.
For the first four weeks, the Beavers shifted between QBs Connor Carver and Zach Romak as starters. Carver's biggest weapon is his legs, and while he would be responsible for electric plays, he became ineffective as games went on, as defenses figured out how to contain him.
The Beavers didn't fare much better with Romak, who's more of a pocket passer. Drives routinely stalled with him under center, and his completion percentage rarely rose above 50%.
That's when BSU decided to turn to redshirt freshman Bart McAninch. After rookie mistakes cost him leading a game-winning drive in his first career start against Minot State, things turned around in Week 6 against Northern State.
McAninch appeared more comfortable in the pocket, and the Beavers secured their long-awaited first win of the season at homecoming, 24-21.

Angel Reese had one of the worst shooting games of her career on Friday against the Washington Mystics. The Atlanta Dream and Team USA star scored seven points and grabbed 16 rebounds, but shot a measly 1-for-12. All of Reese's attempts were within five feet of the rim.
Reese also had four clean blocks against her, with Shakira Austin responsible for most of them. Sonia Citron also came up with a highlight defensive play against the Dream star. Reese scored five of her points at the free throw line. The Dream lost 79-74 and Reese's performance had an impact on the game.
Critics had a field day and poked fun at Reese. Several fans questioned her inclusion in Team USA's squad for the FIBA World Cup.
"Idk how she made team USA," one X user wrote.
Shakira Austin was the primary force that stopped the in-form Angel Reese on Friday night. Before this matchup, Reese had registered three 20-point games in her last four outings and had shot 50.0% or better three times. However, Austin ensured that didn't happen against the Mystics.
