Gianni Infantino has instructed FIFA's 211 member ****** ociations to approve his World Cup commercialization strategy by mid-September - or forfeit the possibility of nearly $7.5 billion in additional revenue.
The scheming FIFA president has dispatched a letter to the ****** ociations, stating: "Should you wish to proceed, this $10billion package will become available as of January 1, 2027, ushering in the next phase of our journey together. Should you wish to retain the status quo and reject this proposal we still have our planned expansion of the Forward programme (development money) of $2.7billion as previously presented."
Infantino has established a September 19 deadline for members to accept his proposal, which, he pledges, will deliver them $40 million for the 2027-30 FIFA cycle, beginning with a lump sum of $20 million in January 2027, as per The Mirror.

Jürgen Klopp has been handed advice on how his Germany side should set up, just days after accepting the role and threatening to walk away. The former Liverpool manager was the first name the German football federation (DFB) approached after Julian Nagelsmann stepped down following a disappointing FIFA World Cup that ended with a penalty shoot-out defeat to Paraguay in the Round of 32.
Klopp faces a considerable challenge, given it's been 10 years since the national team claimed victory in a knockout-round fixture at a major tournament. As Reds supporters will attest, Klopp operates on his own terms and won't tolerate any external meddling.
Nevertheless, that hasn't prevented German soccer icon and DFB sporting director Rudi Völler from offering Klopp his thoughts on how the team should operate. He believes Klopp's team should take their cues from world champions Spain, rather than runners-up Argentina, who have attracted widespread condemnation for their behavior in the Final, which saw them deploy cynical tactics before instigating a post-match confrontation, as per The Liverpool Echo.

PSG remains keen to keep Bradley Barcola this summer despite the player's reported interest in leaving the club, and the French champions are expected to discourage the ******* nal target from seeking a move when he returns to training.
Barcola is believed to be looking for a new challenge after winning back-to-back Champions League ******* les with PSG, even though he has found it more difficult to secure a regular place in the starting line-up. His situation has attracted interest from several clubs ahead of the new season.
The winger showed at the World Cup that he can perform at the highest level when he is given regular playing time, and ******* nal is eager to sign him during this transfer window. The Gunners believe he would strengthen their attacking options and add further quality to the squad.
However, PSG is unwilling to let Barcola leave without a fight and is determined to persuade him to remain at the club for at least another season. That stance could make it difficult for ******* nal to complete a deal despite its strong interest.
Liverpool is also in the race for the winger, increasing the competition for his signature. Even so, PSG's determination to keep the player may prove to be the biggest obstacle for any club hoping to secure his services this summer.

Liverpool have stepped up their interest in Paris St-Germain's Bradley Barcola and are preparing an opening bid.
Barcola, 23, has been identified as the primary option for Liverpool as they look to replace Mohamed Salah, who left at the end of last season.
The France winger is valued by PSG at around £145m. Such a fee would break the British transfer record but those at Anfield are keen on striking a deal closer to the £100m mark.
Barcola has two years left on his contract but is understood to be keen on a move to the Reds and a new challenge after falling down the pecking order at PSG.
Liverpool had initially wanted Yan Diomande but the RB Leipzig winger is now set to join Real Madrid.

Liverpool are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola this summer.
According to The Athletic, the Reds are set to make an official bid for the 23-year-old.

Barcola has significantly enhanced his reputation as one of the best young forwards since joining PSG in 2023.

The English Football ******* ociation has issued a statement declaring it is 'deeply concerned' by Gianni Infantino's proposals to commercialize the World Cup. FIFA announced on Tuesday — following leaked reports of its intentions — that it planned to expand 'football development funding' to more than $10billion by opening up its competitions, including the World Cup, to third-party investment.
Reports suggest that Infantino stands to personally profit substantially from private investors. European confederation UEFA released a strongly worded statement accusing FIFA of 'crossing the line', while UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham declared that FIFA had 'sold out'.
The FA have now weighed in with a statement published on Wednesday, via The Mirror, which read: "We were completely unaware of this proposal and have no substantive details, including what the proposition actually is, and what conditions are attached.

Jul. 29—GRAND FORKS — The Youngstown Phantoms' coaching search has taken an unexpected turn.
A little more than a week after Youngstown began working to finalize a deal to make Brad Berry its next head coach, the United States Hockey League team has relaunched its search.
According to a source, Berry decided to walk away from the job after contract negotiations with Youngstown's ownership/executive group.
Youngstown is looking to replace former coach Ryan Ward, who was recently announced as an **** istant for the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League.
The Phantoms had a strong pool of candidates when they initially launched their coaching search a couple of weeks ago.

After leading the United States men's national team to its best World Cup finish in two decades, Mauricio Pochettino is likely sticking around to finish what he started. The USMNT head coach is "close" to finalizing a deal with the USMNT that would keep him under contract through the 2030 World Cup, according to The Athletic.
Financial terms of the deal — which has not been finalized just yet — are not known at this time.
Pochettino had been reportedly offered a four-year extension partway through a 2026 World Cup run during which the team won their group, scored more goals than they had in any previous tournament and picked up their first knockout win in 24 years. Pochettino's current contract was set to expire now that this summer's tournament is over.
Pochettino was hired by the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) in 2024 to take over after two failed Gregg Berhalter stints. Typically, federations try to hire international managers for a full World Cup cycle, which is every four years. But USSF's choice to re-hire (and later re-fire) Berhalter shortened the window by the time the federation landed on Pochettino to take over.
Still, in just two years, Pochettino was able to build one of the strongest U.S. squads in decades, capitalizing on the talent currently in the U.S. roster pool and putting unlikely players in the position to thrive. Though Pochettino did his best to downplay the USMNT's chances, hopes sailed high for the team coming out of the group stage.

A Grade II-listed house in Windsor Great Park, Royal Lodge served as a childhood country retreat for the late Queen Elizabeth. For Her Majesty, the Georgian-style estate, which boasts 30 rooms, a swimming pool, chapel, and several cottages, held many childhood memories, and to this day, Y Bwthyn Bach – the two-storey thatched playhouse gifted to Elizabeth in 1932 – stands on its 98 acres of land.

While the late Queen spent her final years at Windsor Castle, and of course, her beloved Balmoral Castle, Royal Lodge remained in use, and from 2004 to 2026, was the home of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.
The property has remained empty ever since King Charles' disgraced brother was evicted from his home of 24 years in February following a string of scandals, including concern over his friendship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Following his arrest on 19 February, Andrew, 66, is facing allegations of misconduct in public office, with police investigating claims that he shared confidential information during his appointment as the UK's trade envoy.

Keith Urban isn't beating himself up about Nicole Kidman's new man, a source tells the National Enquirer.
On Friday, July 24, Page Six published photos of the Big Little Lies star, 59, lounging by the pool in Portofino, Italy with private equity investor Michael Reinstein. One day earlier, the pair were also photographed at a hotel, per the outlet.
"Among their friends, it's common knowledge they've both been moving on in their own ways," spills the source. "They'd just been very stealthy about it."
As the Enquirer previously reported, Urban, 58, has gone to extreme lengths to keep his own post-divorce dating life on the down-low, refusing to meet dates out in public and even having them sign strict non-disclosure agreements.
"It's become this cat-and-mouse game because Keith does not want to be the one who goes public with someone before Nicole does," the source reveals.

Two starts are hashing it out to be Liverpool's new striker this season. But who will Andoni Iraola pick?
Liverpool are unfortunately light at centre-forward, despite spending over £200m on the role last summer. Injuries are the problem, naturally.
Alexander Isak endured an incredibly difficult debut campaign at Anfield where he struggled to find fitness before breaking his leg. It meant we never saw anything like the best of Liverpool's record signing and it's difficult to know what to expect in 2026/27.
A pre-season under his belt will surely help Isak enormously and perhaps fix all the problems. But it's still difficult to believe that Liverpool can entirely rely on him next season.
Which is a problem because Hugo Ekitike will miss around half the season at least. His achilles injury keeps him out long-term and, worryingly, we won't know what state he'll be in when he's back.

Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate and Andrew Robertson have all left, leaving a bit of a leadership and experience void in a squad that will undoubtedly be younger and greener this year. PSG want a record £145 million fee to sanction a sale. The Ligue 1 giants are citing recent deals for Elliot Anderson and Morgan Rogers as inflationary benchmarks for the Frenchman's valuation.
Barcola has emerged as one of the best young forwards since joining PSG in 2023.

Liverpool are still plotting big changes up top this summer.
We've seen Mohamed Salah move on - agreeing to rip up his £400k per week deal one year early.
That opens a gap at right wing - with Bradley Barcola the favoured candidate to arrive. The 2024/25 Premier League champions will still need to meet Paris Saint-Germain's asking price - currently set at £145m.
If that price doesn't come down we could see the Anfield side move on to other targets.
And now one intriguing opportunity has sprung up according to a report in Fichajes. Because Richard Hughes and Andoni Iraola are viewing Real Madrid's Endrick as a market opportunity as Los Blancos move closer to a deal for Yan Diomande.

For most athletes at these Commonwealth Games, winning a gold medal on the opening night could not be eclipsed.
But when Scotland's Faye Rogers returns to the pool at Tollcross on Wednesday, what happens next is something she will cherish just as much as standing on top of the podium last Friday.
The 23-year-old didn't just win the S10 200 individual medley - she owned it. A winning margin of just over 2.5 seconds is an eternity over four lengths of the pool.
But when she stands on the block for her next event, it will be an entirely different challenge, because Para-athlete Rogers will race the 200m ****** erfly.
Five years ago, that was her event. And she was good at it. She'd qualified for the Team GB Olympic trials and was set to move to Aberdeen to study as well as train under Patrick Miley, father of Olympian Hannah.

Arsenal have an incredibly bold plan. It's one that should send a £100m winger to Liverpool.
Liverpool desperately need a new winger after Mohamed Salah's exit. They needed one anyway, given no one replaced Luis Diaz - though, the hope is that Victor Munoz will now do that.
But replacing Salah is another matter entirely. He was the main attacking output in the team, both for goals and ***** ists. Yes, he had a down year last term but his numbers remained higher than just about every potential replacement.
It's why Liverpool are trying to shop in the elite bracket right now. That started with a move for Yan Diomande but despite initially believing it was on, the player rejected them for Paris Saint-Germain (and subsequently rejected them for Real Madrid).
Now the main target is Bradley Barcola, a player Anfield Watch initially reported was a target back in April. He was viewed as a 'market opportunity' back then - though, it's now debatable how correct that was.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A former Olympian charged with deliberately damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool is seeking access to all of the closed-door testimony that led to his indictment, pointing to "irregularities" in those grand jury proceedings.
In a court filing Monday, David Hearn's attorneys requested an order for the government to turn over a complete transcript of all grand jury proceedings. They also want prosecutors to disclose the legal instructions they gave to grand jurors about the elements of Hearn's alleged crime.
Hearn pleaded not guilty earlier this month to one felony count of property destruction and has a trial scheduled to start Sept. 28 in D.C. Superior Court. The charge, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years upon conviction, accuses Hearn of causing at least $1,000 in damage to the pool.
But his lawyers question whether prosecutors properly presented the grand jury with adequate evidence to support the amount of damage alleged in Hearn's indictment. A National Park Service official testified that the pool already was damaged before Hearn allegedly touched it, couldn't quantify any damage attributable to Hearn and said the same repairs would have been required regardless of his conduct, defense attorneys said.
"The witness's testimony established that the pool had substantial preexisting damage requiring repair before any alleged conduct by Mr. Hearn," his lawyers wrote. "According to the witness, the pool was leaking more than one million gallons of water per week; its expansion joints had exceeded their service life; and the liner already contained a rip."

Tiger Woods went to the top of the PGA Tour career money list when he was runner-up at Torrey Pines on Feb. 13, 2000, and he has stayed there ever since. His last check for finishing last at the 2024 Masters ($44,400) pushed his career earnings to $120,999,166.
Being passed is inevitable and now is in clear view. It's just a matter of who tops him first.
Rory McIlroy, who lost in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Match Play in his PGA Tour debut, is second on the list at $116,446,772. Scottie Scheffler, who cashed his first PGA Tour check in 2018, moved to $116,364,411 with his runner-up finish in the 3M Open.
That leaves both of them just over $4 million away from Woods coming into the lucrative FedEx Cup postseason — $20 million purses at two playoff events, and the Tour Championship with its $40 million bonus pool that now counts as official money.
Scheffler became the third player in history to earn nine figures in their career earlier this year, when he won the American Express. Since then, the world's top-ranked player has finished second five times.

In a recent report, Tuttosport mentioned that Liverpool are showing interest in Juventus winger Francisco Conceicao. It has been mentioned that the Reds are prepared to launch a €50m move to sign the Portuguese wide player this off-season.
The 23-year-old managed to shine at times with his performances on the right side of Juventus' attack in the previous campaign. Conceicao scored four goals and picked up five ***** ists in 42 appearances for the Turin outfit last season on all fronts.
The Portuguese talent is currently among the most talented wide players in Serie A. Hence, it is no surprise that the Reds are hoping to sign him in this transfer window.

Liverpool's planning at centre-back has taken an uncomfortable turn after Joe Gomez suffered an injury in the pre-season friendly against Sunderland, a development that further narrows Andoni Iraola's options before the new season begins.
As reported by BBC Sport, Gomez went off after only eight minutes and was then absent from training in Chicago on Sunday. There is still no confirmed timescale on the issue, but the immediate picture is clear enough. Liverpool are short in a key area of the pitch, and that shortage is sharpening the focus on both recruitment planning and existing contingency measures.
Photo IMAGO
At present, Virgil van Dijk stands as the only fit senior centre-back available. For a side preparing for another demanding campaign, that is far from ideal. Van Dijk's status as captain and defensive leader remains central, but relying so heavily on one established figure at this stage of pre-season leaves little margin for error.
The problem has been compounded by the unavailability of summer arrivals Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni. Jacquet's issue is understood to be minor, yet the timing leaves Iraola with an undeniably thin group in central defence. It is the sort of situation clubs prefer to avoid in July and August, because even short absences can disrupt rhythm, partnerships and tactical work.

Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg reports on X (formerly Twitter) that 'nothing is advanced' as far as negotiations with PSG are concerned.
The Ligue 1 champions are thought to be looking for a fee well in excess of £100m.
From our perspective, it's difficult to imagine Liverpool's decision-makers having much in the way of wiggle room beyond the £100m – at the very least, not significantly beyond that price point.

Liverpool's pursuit of Bradley Barcola is moving with real purpose, with DaveOCKOP reporting that the club is ready to place a huge offer on the table for the Paris Saint-Germain winger. After the World Cup, attention inside Anfield appears to have sharpened quickly, and the 23-year-old has emerged as the leading attacking target.
The report states that Liverpool's chase "has heated up since the World Cup came to a close earlier this month", and that Barcola "quickly became the priority for the Reds" once Yan Diomande looked set for a different destination. That shift matters, because it suggests planning at senior level has already narrowed onto one preferred option.
There has been no shortage of noise around the numbers. "Widespread reports suggest that PSG will hold fast on their valuation €170m," while it has also been claimed that Liverpool may have room to negotiate. The latest line is clearer. Liverpool "is set to submit a huge proposal to Paris Saint-Germain worth a staggering €110 million (£94 million) upfront." On top of that, "the structure of the deal also includes performance-based bonuses, with an additional €20 million tied to domestic league success and a further €20 million linked to Champions League achievements."
Photo: IMAGO
That would bring the total package to €150 million, still below the figure most often attached to PSG's stance. Even so, this is serious money and, more importantly, serious intent. Liverpool would be presenting a deal that gives the French club immediate value and the prospect of more if the player helps deliver major honours.

Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola (23) is reported to have reached an agreement in principle to join Liverpool, according to information from L'Équipe.
Having made it clear to his club's management that he does not wish to extend his contract – which runs until 2028 – with Les Rouge et Bleu, the French winger is said to have recently spoken with the Reds' new manager, Andoni Iraola, to discuss a potential move.
Although they are far from having reached an agreement on the terms of a transfer at this stage, Liverpool and PSG are indeed in talks to find common ground. The outcome of the deal could hinge on a fee in excess of €120m.
At 23, and after three successful years in the French capital, Barcola is now keen to take his career to the next level and establish himself as a potential first-team regular at a major European club. Often relegated to the role of 12th man in PSG's key fixtures in recent months, the Lyon-born player now seems determined to spread his wings, having reportedly identified Anfield as his preferred destination should a transfer go ahead.

Here we will be keeping track of each draftee taken by the Tampa Bay Rays over the course of the draft, their projected signing amount, and how much they actually signed for.
The Rays have a bonus pool of $19,09,300 that they are alloted to spend on the selections they made over the first 10 rounds of the draft; for every pick after the 10th round, any amount over $150,000 will be counted towards a team's pool. Liverpool's summer has reached the point where the shape of the squad starts to come into view, and the message from The Athletic is clear enough. The headline issue is at the top end of the pitch. Bradley Barcola is the one they want, the one they rate highest, and the one who would signal ambition at the beginning of Andoni Iraola's reign.
That matters, because this is not a normal reset. Liverpool are trying to recover direction after a turbulent campaign, move on from the post-Arne Slot fallout, and hand a new head coach the tools to build something that looks fast, aggressive and dangerous. There is no point dressing it up. They need quality, they need depth, and they need clarity.
According to the report, "Bradley Barcola remains Liverpool's top target as they look to recruit an elite replacement for Mohamed Salah." That line lands heavily because it frames the whole market for Liverpool. Replacing Salah is not a standard bit of squad maintenance. You do not replace years of goals, ******* ists, fear factor and reliability with a hopeful punt. You need a player with real pedigree, and Barcola clearly fits the bill in Liverpool's thinking.
There is a seriousness to this pursuit. The report states, "Signing the 23-year-old France international would represent a major statement of intent at the start of new head coach Andoni Iraola's reign, but agreeing a deal with Paris Saint-Germain won't be straightforward." That feels like the truth of it. Liverpool can identify the right player, they can make him a priority, but getting him away from Paris Saint-Germain is another matter entirely.
The wider market context in the same report explains why. PSG have set an eye-watering valuation and Liverpool are far from alone in coveting elite attacking talent this summer. Even so, if Liverpool are serious about refreshing the frontline properly, there is no use blinking at the hard part. You either pay for top-class potential and production or you settle for less and hope. Liverpool have done enough hoping over the years to know how risky that can be.
