The King has stepped in to help reinstate Uganda's participation in Prince Harry's Invictus Games after the country withdrew from the tournament.
Charles, 77, was "moved" by General Kainerugaba's consideration of his opinion and encouraged the chief to proceed with preparations for the country's participation in the games, according to Sir Clive Alderton, the King and Queen's principal private secretary.
The General has now approved participation in the upcoming Games, which was founded by the Duke of Sussex in 2014 and will next be held in 2027 in Birmingham, following a telephone phone call with Sir Clive, it was revealed on Monday.
Chris Magezi, the spokesperson for Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), wrote on social media: "The decision follows a telephone conversation between General Kainerugaba and the Principal Private Secretary to His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen of the United Kingdom, the Right Honourable Sir Clive Alderton K.C.V.O."

It seems as though King Charles III's letter about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's involvement in the monarchy has already done some damage — whether it was meant to or not.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba declared on X that Uganda, which is part of the Commonwealth of Nations, did not want its participation in the annual Invictus Games to be "construed as being opposed to His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom, whom we deeply revere."
"We shall not participate in anything that does not have His Majesty's approval," Kainerugaba, who is the son of the Ugandan president and head of the country's armed forces, added.
After it was revealed that Uganda had dropped out of the international sporting competition, which the Duke of Sussex, 41, founded in 2014, a source told People that the king's letter issued by Lord Chamberlain was to blame.
"They made it very clear that the reason they pulled out was a direct result of perceived guidance from the Lord Chamberlain," a source close to the Spare author said in the Thursday, September 10, report.

The late Queen spent 70 years on the throne, during which time she carried out more than 21,000 public and official engagements. As such, there wasn't a lot that would phase Her Majesty.

Ebbsfleet United will be able to start their season on Saturday after the National League lifted the club's suspension.
The Kent club had their first six National League South games postponed while they addressed ongoing financial issues, which had led His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to issue a winding-up petition over unpaid debts going back to April.
A takeover of the club last month, by new owner John O'Leary, allowed Ebbsfleet to fully pay HMRC and players.
"We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding, as well as our players and staff for their exemplary conduct through this difficult period," the club said on Wednesday.
Ebbsfleet have been handed a suspended six-point deduction by the league's compliance and licensing committee, which will be triggered should they fail to comply with as yet unspecified "obligations".

The monarchy of Norway dates back to 872 and is currently helmed by the House of Glücksburg, which also fronts the Danish royal family, and the royal house has produced monarchs for the country since the time of King Haakon VII in 1905.
The family is currently in mourning after King Harald V passed away on 28 August 2026. In a statement, the Norwegian royal household said: "It is with deep sorrow that we announce that His Majesty King Harald passed away today. King Harald passed away peacefully at Rikshospitalet on Friday, August 28, at 06:35. He leaves behind his wife, Queen Sonja, 89, and children, Crown Prince Haakon, 53 and Princess Martha Louise, 54."

Born on 21 February 1937, King Harald was the youngest child of King Olav V and Princess Martha. His two sisters, Princess Ragnhild and Princess Astrid, were excluded from being in line to the throne at the time due to agnatic primogeniture rules. As the Norwegian royal family begins to consider funeral arrangements for King Harald, his widow Queen Sonja will be marking a very poignant milestone this weekend.
The royals would have marked their 58th wedding anniversary on 29 August, one day after it was announced that Harald had died aged 89. A statement from the Norwegian Palace read: "It is with deep sorrow that we announce that His Majesty King Harald passed away today. King Harald passed away peacefully at Rikshospitalet on Friday, August 28, at 06:35."
Sonja will likely be supported privately through the difficult time by their children, King Haakon VIII and Princess Martha Louise.

KAMPALA, Aug 28 (Reuters) - Oyo Nyimba, a Ugandan king, who became the world's youngest reigning monarch when he took the crown in 1995, has died aged ‌34, the prime minister of his kingdom announced.
Uganda is a republic, ruled by an ‌elected head of state, but it has several traditional monarchies that still preside over their kingdoms as they were constituted in the pre-colonial period. Their political power is largely symbolic, but they wield enormous cultural and social influence.
Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV was the King of Tooro, a small kingdom in Uganda's west near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
"It is with profound sadness ‌and a heavy heart that ⁠I announce the passing of His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV," the prime minister of the kingdom, ⁠Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, said in a post on X late on Thursday.
The king died at around 10:00 p.m. local time on Thursday, Akiiki said, without revealing the cause of his death.

Queen Camilla's reported stance toward Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has emerged as the Sussexes prepare for an extended return to the UK. The development follows their quiet but significant reunion with King Charles and Camilla at Highgrove House, the monarch's private Gloucestershire residence, last month.
Despite being targeted in Prince Harry's memoir "Spare," Queen Camilla is said to have shown generosity during their recent meeting. The Queen Consort featured in several of the Duke's claims in the book, which was released in 2023.
In "Spare," Harry reportedly referred to Her Majesty more than 60 times, calling her "the Other Woman" and his "wicked stepmother." The remarks were reportedly deeply upsetting to King Charles. Yet, according to the Daily Mail, the Queen reportedly greeted Prince Harry warmly with a smile and offered him tea during their private family gathering in Gloucestershire. The gesture of goodwill is said to have eased some of the Sussexes' concerns about returning to the UK.
However, the report suggested that a similarly warm reception may be unlikely from Prince William and Kate Middleton. The heir to the throne remains estranged from his brother following a series of accusations Harry has made against the Waleses, Charles, and Camilla since the "Megxit" crisis in 2020.

One of King Charles'most senior staff members, Bernie Flannery, is to stand down this weekend after being by the monarch's side for 40 years.
The news was revealed by royal author Robert Jobson on his Substack page. "Bernie Flannery leaves the King's personal staff this weekend," he wrote. "The loyal butler is the latest of His Majesty's team to leave his side, after more than forty years at his beck and call."
Bernie joined Charles' staff in the early 1990s after serving aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia. He clearly made an impression on both Charles and his then-wife, Princess Diana, as when the royal couple split, it was revealed that both wanted him to continue serving them. Bernie chose Charles on the royal's insistence.
Robert concluded his post by saying: "He is the most loyal of the loyal. Happy retirement Bernie. I raise a glass to you."
During his years with the King, Bernie has mostly stayed out of the headlines, although in 1999, he was involved in a car crash after picking up a new car for the Royal Household.

A Grade II-listed house in Windsor Great Park, Royal Lodge served as a childhood country retreat for the late Queen Elizabeth. For Her Majesty, the Georgian-style estate, which boasts 30 rooms, a swimming pool, chapel, and several cottages, held many childhood memories, and to this day, Y Bwthyn Bach – the two-storey thatched playhouse gifted to Elizabeth in 1932 – stands on its 98 acres of land.

While the late Queen spent her final years at Windsor Castle, and of course, her beloved Balmoral Castle, Royal Lodge remained in use, and from 2004 to 2026, was the home of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.
The property has remained empty ever since King Charles' disgraced brother was evicted from his home of 24 years in February following a string of scandals, including concern over his friendship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Following his arrest on 19 February, Andrew, 66, is facing allegations of misconduct in public office, with police investigating claims that he shared confidential information during his appointment as the UK's trade envoy.

Queen Elizabeth II was inseparable from her beloved corgis, and her cherished pet pooches even travelled by helicopter if required to accompany Her Majesty wherever she went. It was no secret that she spoiled the pets, treating them to chef-prepared meals and having their sheets inside their baskets changed daily, but Prince Harry has revealed another way they lived the high life…
In his memoir, Spare, the Duke of Sussex revealed that the dogs would happily join the Queen in her private lift up to her bedroom on a nightly basis. He wrote: "In the heart of this main chamber was the grand staircase. Sweeping, dramatic, seldom used. Whenever Granny headed up to her bedroom on the second floor, corgis at her heels, she preferred the lift. The corgis preferred it too."
The Queen owned more than 30 corgis in her lifetime and at any given point, she had up to ten! Princess Diana is said to have said the gathering of dogs around her feet was like "a moving carpet".
After the Queen died in 2022, her pets were bestowed to her son, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson. They were given to them for a very specific reason, because it was their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, who originally purchased the dogs. The princesses reportedly gifted their grandmother with Muick and Sandy to distract her from the stress of her husband, Prince Philip's, hospital stay in 2021.
After taking on the dogs, Sarah revealed that she felt they had psychic powers. "I have her dogs. I have her corgis. So every morning they come in and go, you know 'woof woof' and all that. I'm sure it's her talking to me."

Queen Elizabeth II was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and she often spoke affectionately about her great-grandchildren, including the Prince and Princess of Wales's three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Her Late Majesty shared an insight into the bond between George and Charlotte during a church service in Sandringham in January 2018.
Speaking to Ellen Clay at the time, who watched her daughter Emily, then ten, receive a Bible from the monarch, she asked her if she "looked after" her little sister, to which Ellen responded that it was the "other way around". The late Queen replied: "It's like that with Charlotte and George."

There was the moment of absolute cinema as directed by Wes Craven, the slow-motion piece of horror that got star striker Folarin Balogun ejected from this game – and, most unfortunately, the next – for a foul that almost certainly was not his fault.

A recent appearance by Queen Camilla alongside J.K. Rowling has sparked strong reactions online. The photo, taken at an event to promote the importance of reading, was shared by The Royal Family on social media. Supporters of the women praised the collaboration, while critics questioned the Queen's decision to pose with the author amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Rowling's public views.
On June 30, the last day of Pride Month, the Royal Family social media accounts posted a photo of Queen Camilla smiling for the camera alongside controversial Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.
