Mark Ruffalo and Paramount are locked in an increasingly heated war of words over the company's proposed $110 billion merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. The media giant accused the "Avengers" actor of invoking "antisemitic tropes" after he connected the corporate transaction to Oracle technology used to **** ist the Israeli military. Ruffalo quickly rejected the allegation as "appalling" and insisted his criticism was aimed at political leaders and corporate executives, not Jewish people.
MEGA
Paramount issued a lengthy statement after Ruffalo posted a video featuring Safra Catz discussing technology Oracle reportedly made available to the Israeli military. "We are, as always, troubled when antisemitic tropes are invoked in purported service of a business dispute," the company said in a statement shared by CNN's Brian Stelter.
Paramount specifically objected to Ruffalo's use of the words "genocide" and "apartheid" while criticizing the proposed Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition. The company said the language was inappropriate when applied to a corporate transaction and argued that it diminished the suffering those terms are normally used to describe.
Paramount said "this brings us to a moment to lower the temperature, not raise it," adding that it would "rather build than further engage in such rhetoric." "This simply exposes the true motivation of some who have advocated opposition to this transaction," its statement continued.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Damon Sacco had never seen anything like the fish he and fellow anglers fought for hours in the waters off Massachusetts. As it rose from the depths, it looked like a glimmering blue ****** eship.
Sacco, a longtime Massachusetts charter fishing boat captain, saw the giant fin break the surface, and at first he thought he was dealing with an enormous shark.
"Then I got a better look at it and thought, dang, that thing's pointed," he said. "But that's too big for a marlin."
He was wrong. Sacco and his client Walter Chapman landed what they and others believe is the largest Atlantic blue marlin ever caught off the U.S. East Coast on Wednesday. The massive billfish, more than 11 feet (335 cm) in length, weighed 1,260 pounds (571.5 kilograms) when they got it back to land in Falmouth, Massachusetts.
That was just 142 pounds (64.4 kilograms) shy of the world record for an Atlantic blue marlin, caught off Brazil in 1992, according to records kept by the International Game Fish ****** ociation.

Max Holloway may lose a portion of his fight purse following his UFC 329 victory over Conor McGregor — and he's not alone. Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) will decide on Wednesday if the former featherweight and BMF champ, along with lightweight contender Paddy Pimblett and heavyweight newcomer Gable Steveson, will incur disciplinary fines for cage hopping during the July 11 fight card in Las Vegas.
Pimblett defeated Benoit Saint Denis, not long after Steveson steamrolled Elisha Ellison.
"For the record, this rule needs to be changed," Pimblett's manager, Graham Boylan told MMA Junkie. "Yes, it's the fight game, and systems need to be in play to make it all work, but this rule does nothing to support that. It's 2026. Apply a little common sense."
Diego Lopes was dinged $5,000 for a similar infraction at UFC 300.
NSAC has been cracking down on airborne fighters ever since Khabib Nurmagomedov's ****** bombed Dillon Danis at UFC 229 back in late 2018, a fight that also involved McGregor. Speaking of the "Notorious" ex-champion, he's currently sidelined after knee surgery to repair damage suffered in his loss to Holloway — just don't expect much sympathy from the "Blessed" Hawaiian.

U.S. shale billionaire Harold Hamm is making a multibillion-dollar bet on Argentina's Vaca Muerta, becoming the latest high-profile American investor to target the rapidly expanding shale basin.
Hamm's Continental Resources has agreed to acquire a 50% interest in Phoenix Global Resources, creating an equal joint venture with commodities giant Mercuria Energy Group. The partners plan to invest more than $4 billion over five years and increase Phoenix's production from more than 28,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day to over 100,000 boed.
The combined portfolio will encompass approximately 163,000 net acres across six Vaca Muerta blocks. The proposed transaction remains subject to definitive agreements, closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
Continental is no stranger to the formation. The company entered Argentina last year by acquiring **** ets from Pluspetrol and subsequently bought interests in blocks operated by Pan American Energy. CEO Doug Lawler credited President Javier Milei's economic reforms with helping create the conditions for Continental's latest investment.
Hamm isn't the only American billionaire taking an interest.

On August 13, Golar LNG (NASDAQ:GLNG) used its second-quarter earnings call to announce a fourth floating LNG unit, an order signed just hours before the call began. The Mark II vessel will be built at CIMC Raffles Shipyard in China and delivered within 2029, making it the earliest available liquefaction capacity anywhere in the world. Combined with an EBITDA backlog of $17 billion already locked in through Hilli, Gimi, and the FLNG Esperanza, the announcement reframes Golar as a company still adding capacity rather than one just running out its existing fleet.
The new order lifts Golar's controlled liquefaction capacity by 41%, from 8.6 million tonnes to more than 12 million tonnes once fully delivered. Management said that if the unit is chartered on terms similar to last year's Esperanza deal, annual earnings capacity could rise 50%, pushing run-rate EBITDA past $1.2 billion by 2030. That confidence rests on a shipyard bottleneck.
Samsung, the industry's biggest builder, isn't expected to have open capacity until 2031, and Wison in China is on track to book its next two large units, leaving it committed well into the next decade. Seatrium and CIMC, the only two yards actively converting FLNG units right now, have built exclusively for Golar. The operating record backs up the growth pitch. Hilli finished its eight-year Cameroon contract with 100% economic uptime and 156 cargoes delivered, Gimi produced 15% above its contracted volume in the quarter, and the Esperanza conversion is 74% complete and still on budget. Commodity-linked income is already showing up in the numbers: Hilli's contribution jumped to $37 million in the quarter from $10 million in the first quarter, helping push EBITDA up 20% sequentially to $127 million.
Growth at this pace isn't free. The CapEx budget for the fourth FLNG unit came in around $2.45 billion, roughly 10% above the $2.2 billion spent on Esperanza, a jump management tied to inflation in long-lead equipment like turbines and dual-fuel engines, parts now being bid up by AI data center and aircraft manufacturers too. That new unit also has no charter yet, so the 50% earnings boost management is pointing to is a target, not a locked-in number.
Meanwhile, Golar is still equity funding Esperanza, having put in $1.3 billion of its $2.2 billion budget, while carrying net interest-bearing debt of about $1.8 billion. Executives are counting on refinancing Hilli and locking in long-term financing for Esperanza to free up roughly $2.3 billion in liquidity, transactions that are still in progress rather than done. The commodity exposure that flatters earnings when LNG prices are high works the same way in reverse. Management's own sensitivity table shows EBITDA falling back toward $1.2 billion if prices settle near $8 per million BTU, well below the $1.9 billion implied by today's $15 forward price. And the disruption at Qatar's Ras Laffan facility, which knocked out an estimated 17 million tonnes of capacity for three

Charlotte Hornets general manager Jeff Peterson has explained why trading LaMelo Ball ultimately made moving Miles Bridges feel like the natural next step in the franchise's long-term plan
In a behind-the-scenes look detailing the Hornets' offseason decision-making, Peterson revealed that the front office knew the two moves were connected.
"If we trade LaMelo, we're probably trading Miles."
That line says a lot about where the Hornets were. Moving Ball was not supposed to be an isolated transaction. It was supposed to be a complete shift in a different direction altogether.
Peterson made it clear that Charlotte is no longer interested in short-term success. That philosophy explains why it all followed out of Charlotte.

The global media ******* ytics and digital advertising market is at a phase of rapid restructuring, as evidenced by Nielsen's definitive agreement to buy digital ad verification leader DoubleVerify Holdings Inc. (NYSE:DV) for $2.15 billion on August 6. Under the terms of the agreement, Nielsen will pay $13.60 per share in cash for all outstanding DV shares. The acquisition brings together Nielsen's cross-media audience measurement expertise with DoubleVerify's real-time digital ad verification, fraud prevention, and brand-safety tech stack. The merged company is expected to generate more than $4 billion in annual pro-forma revenue while targeting clients responsible for more than $300 billion in advertising spending.
Nielsen's operating approach is based on creating an all-in-one measurement and verification framework for advertisers around the world. By incorporating DoubleVerify's verification capabilities into the Nielsen ONE platform, the merged company will provide marketers with a single portal for measuring reach, frequency, viewability, and ad fraud all at once.
Domestically, the combined structure focuses on Connected TV (CTV) and retail media networks, where diverse viewing patterns and verification gaps have caused buyer friction. Internationally, the transaction could use Nielsen's extensive enterprise partnerships in Europe and Asia-Pacific to expand DoubleVerify's verification footprint into high-growth digital areas without incurring the costs of setting up independent sales units.
Following the transaction, prominent Wall Street firms reset ratings around $13.60, indicating limited upside and seeing the stock as a merger arbitrage trade with limited growth potential. Q2 2026 showed only 3% revenue growth but solid profitability, with a 34% adjusted EBITDA margin, substantial free cash flow, no debt, $210 million in cash, and adjusted EPS of $0.22 versus the $0.11 projected.
Meanwhile, other shareholder law firms are looking whether the $13.60 deal undervalues DoubleVerify Holdings Inc. (NYSE:DV) or comes with limited rights, which may lead to demands for better terms or further details. That said, hedge fund exposure for DoubleVerify Holdings Inc. (NYSE:DV) rose ahead of the transaction, increasing from 32 in Q4 2025 to 40 in Q1 2026. Also, Nielsen's private equity owners, Elliott Investment Management and Brookfield Business Partners, saw the drop in valuation as an attractive entry point to amass software-like recurring revenues and high-margin verification businesses.

The Detroit Lions are taking a look at some serious experience for an offensive line that suddenly could use more of it.
Detroit worked out veteran guards Will Hernandez and Laken Tomlinson on Thursday, according to the NFL transaction wire. Neither player had signed with the Lions as of Friday morning.
The timing isn't difficult to figure out.
Ben Bartch is in concussion protocol, cutting into what was already a shrinking opportunity for him to challenge Christian Mahogany at left guard. Detroit is also operating without center Cade Mays, whose wrist injury is expected to sideline him for roughly eight to 10 weeks.
Brad Holmes apparently decided it wouldn't hurt to have a couple of veteran guards stop by Allen Park.

The Detroit Tigers spent the trade deadline loading up on young pitching.
Less than three weeks later, a frustrating pattern has developed.
Right-hander Brady Smith, one of the three prospects Detroit acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers for Tarik Skubal, was placed on the seven-day injured list by High-A West Michigan on Thursday. Minor League Baseball's official transaction log confirmed the move after Smith left his Aug. 15 start with an apparent issue involving his throwing arm.
The Tigers have not announced the specific nature or severity of Smith's injury.
That distinction matters. An IL placement is concerning. It is not an invitation to diagnose an arm injury from the couch.

In the second quarter of 2026, **** eX's (NASDAQ: SPCX) revenue surged 92% year over year to $7.8 billion, and it narrowed its net loss from $1.01 billion to $541 million. However, its total capex surged more than sixfold year over year, from $2.83 billion to $18.37 billion. It allocated $15.8 billion of that capex to expanding its AI business. Let's see where all that money went.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
SpaceX originally operated two main businesses: its Starlink satellite internet services and its rocket launch services. But in Feb. 2026, it acquired xAI -- which owns Grok, X, and its other AI **** ets -- in an all-stock transaction to form its new AI business. It also acquired the AI start-up Cursor earlier this month. Elon Musk believes its AI revenue will jump from $3.5 billion in 2025 to $700-$750 billion in 2030.
To sow the seeds for that expansion, **** eX spent most of its second-quarter capex on Nvidia's (NASDAQ: NVDA) data center GPUs and other AI accelerators. The rest was used to deploy, acquire, and build more high-power data centers to increase its active capacity from 1.4 GW today to its target of 10 GW by next year.
That would give it a lot more bandwidth to handle its multi-billion-dollar compute hosting contracts with external enterprise clients. However, the expansion of that unprofitable AI business could offset Starlink's profits and keep its bottom line in the red.

HOUSTON, Aug 19 (Reuters) - Crude oil prices rose on Wednesday and settled at the highest in nearly four weeks, as investors worried about escalating tensions in the Middle East after ‌the United Arab Emirates decided to suspend all financial and economic transactions with Iran, and as ship ‌traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remained slow.
Brent crude futures settled at $91.62 a barrel, up 60 cents, or 0.7%. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 89 cents, or 1.1%, to settle at $85.83 a barrel.
Both benchmarks closed at their highest since July 24.
"Crude futures remain supported by the geopolitical tensions that remain in the Middle East, now with the UAE stating they have cut off all financial ties to Iran due to the latest missile attacks," said Dennis Kissler, senior vice president of ‌trading at BOK Financial.

FR8 Solutions and 22 independent drivers have reached a settlement in a federal civil RICO lawsuit. The drivers accused the company of altering rate sheets and hiding revenue from hauled loads. On July 28, a Florida court dismissed the case with prejudice. The court filings do not disclose the settlement's financial terms.
Plaintiffs and defendants filed a joint notice of settlement on July 27. They told the court they had resolved the matter and were finalizing their agreement. Judge Wendy Berger closed the case the following day. Her order allows either side 60 days to request a final order or reopen proceedings.
FR8 and the drivers worked under agreements that promised drivers 88% of each load's linehaul rate. The complaint claims company records showed smaller rates than FR8 actually received. Drivers claimed FR8 supplied settlement statements and dispatch documents that understated the company's revenue. The lawsuit says those documents reduced their percentage-based payment on individual loads.
One disputed shipment ran from Wood Dale, Illinois, to Gaffney, South Carolina. FR8's system showed a $2,400 rate, while the complaint claims FR8 received $2,500. Another shipment ran from Del Rio, Texas, to Kansas City, Kansas. For that move, the drivers claim FR8 showed $8,000 but received $15,000.
The $7,000 difference represented $6,160 under the drivers claimed 88% formula. Drivers also identified Ascent On-Demand, Active On-Demand and Landstar in disputed transactions. They claimed another company operator revealed different rates during June 2023. FR8 then ended their contracts and locked them out of its mobile application, the lawsuit states.

The Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints could not seem to stop fighting one another during their scrimmage on Tuesday, and now they are paying for it.
The NFL announced on Thursday that Dallas and New Orleans have each been fined $500,000 for the "actions" that took place. This is obviously not a good look for anyone involved.
It was documented as the scrimmage wore on how the Cowboys and Saints simply could not stop fighting each other. There was never any specific culprit named from the "action", but Donovan Ezeiruaku was ejected in terms of transactional outcomes.
Brian Schottenheimer has said at many turns that the Cowboys need to be more disciplined this season, and this is certainly a step backwards in that effort. Obviously this was not an actual game and things can be said about who started what, but the facts are now that Dallas has literally been fined for improper activity of this sort.
Hopefully it is a learning opportunity moving forward.
