I'm 67, my husband is 69, and we've been married 38 years. We've lived in the same four-bedroom colonial for 32 of those years. It's paid off and worth $1.5 million. We have another $1.8 million in retirement accounts and savings, plus Social Security and a small pension from his old job. No debt, and our kids are on their own.
So this isn't a money problem, but we can't talk about retirement anymore without it turning into a fight. He wants to buy something for $600,000 now that we are empty-nesters, and invest the rest. He has a spreadsheet. I've seen it open on the laptop at the kitchen table at 11 p.m., with property taxes, insurance and the lawn guy all in little columns.
My spouse was awarded $90,000 from my 401(k) in our divorce. How is that fair?

It's been a bloodbath for Hunter Biden's Laptop (LAPTOP) memecoin since its launch a week ago, far worse than that of President Donald Trump's memecoin in its debut week.
LAPTOP launched on Base, a Layer 2 blockchain developed by Coinbase Global Inc., at roughly $37, according to CoinMarketCap. Within minutes, it surged to a record high of $401.12, pushing its market cap to $50 billion.
However, the frenzy was short-lived.

Qualcomm (QCOM) has spent years telling shareholders it is becoming more than a smartphone chip company. What changed is where the new growth is expected to come from. Two years ago the big non-handset targets were automotive and IoT. Today, the newest leg of the story runs through the data center, and management has already put a number on it.
Qualcomm Once Told You The Laptop Chip Had Redefined Computing
The Snapdragon X Series was the flagship of that older story. Two years ago management said those platforms had redefined personal computing.
Management no longer leads with that story. In the fiscal Q3 2026 call, delivered on July 29, 2026, the PC gets two passing lines: a growing share of design wins in AI-first laptops and Project Solara, a chip-to-cloud platform being built with Microsoft for agent-first enterprise devices. Both are real. Neither carries a revenue figure.

Nvidia (NVDA) CFO Colette Kress told investors last week that the company is seeing "extreme pricing conditions in memory," that the increases have "exceeded our prior expectations," and that they are "headed even higher into next year." Colette Kress said this in prepared remarks on Nvidia's fiscal second-quarter earnings call on Aug. 26, and then delivered the line companies almost never say plainly: "As a result, we are resetting expectations today."
Memory is not an exotic part. It is the DRAM in a phone, the RAM in a laptop, the storage in a game console, and one of the most expensive ingredients in a graphics card… and three companies make nearly all of it. Kress was describing the market for AI server memory, not the shelf price of a laptop, and Nvidia said nothing at all about consumer devices. But those products draw on the same suppliers and the same fabs, which is why a chip company's margin guidance is worth reading even if you never buy a chip.

NEW DELHI: Anshuman Hooda bursts into laughter when asked to choose between his office laptop and his cricket ball. "My cricket ball is my best friend," he tells TimesofIndia.com.

His elder brother, Vikram Hooda, says their mother, Prem Lata Singh, a primary class teacher at a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) school, is happy to see Anshuman pursue cricket, especially now that he has a stable job. "Earlier, they used to say that he needed a job. Now that he has one and is doing well, she is happy," Vikram says of their parents.

Anshuman had a breakout 2026 Delhi Premier League (DPL) season -- emerging as the Purple Cap winner with 22 scalps -- which played a crucial role in South Delhi Superstarz's **** le triumph.

But there was a time when Hooda thought cricket had run its course. Two attempts at the Under-23 trials had gone by without success. There was no age-group cricket on his résumé, no traditional pathway through Delhi's junior system and no obvious route into first-class cricket. He had an engineering degree from Delhi Technological University (DTU) and a job at EY. The sensible thing, he thought, was to move on.

"I tried for Under-23 for two years, but I couldn't make it. I thought it would be very difficult because I hadn't played any professional cricket or age-group cricket. It would have been very difficult to directly get selected for the Ranji Trophy or first-class cricket," Anshuman recollects.
"So at that time, I thought I should quit cricket and pursue my career in engineering or something."

But just when he thought of walking away from the game, his coach Harish Dagar, who runs a cricket academy named Delhi Cricket Hub in Delhi's Paschim Vihar, and trains youngsters at DTU, stepped up.

"It was in 2023. He had just graduated. He had got the job through campus placement and was ready to move on with his life. I pleaded with him to give it one more year. I asked him to come to my academy four days a week for a year, and if nothing would pan out, I would let him pursue his corporate job," reminisces Dagar.
Then came the Delhi Premier League (DPL). And with it came a completely different possibility. For a young man who had arrived late to leather-ball cricket, DPL became the stage on which his raw pace, athleticism and appetite for fast bowling could finally be seen. The numbers followed. The attention followed, and now Anshuman is finally ready to become a full-time cricketer.

"I have seen some substantial progress in my cricket in recent months and in this tournament. So in the coming times, I might shift my whole focus to cricket and give it my all," he says.
Anshuman is 25 and, in cricketing terminology, he can be called a late bloomer. But the most unusual thing about Anshuman's story is perhaps where it began. Not with a cricket academy. Not with a junior tournament. Not with a childhood obsession with bowling. With roller skates.
Growing up, Anshuman was a national-level roller skater. Cricket e

A laptop arrived late. What was on it made things worse. And now Apple is asking a federal court to move faster, arguing that evidence in its lawsuit against OpenAI is being actively destroyed.
Apple filed a new brief on Aug. 31, escalating its legal battle against the ChatGPT maker. The filing accuses OpenAI of withholding key evidence and alleges that a former Apple engineer sent instructions to an OpenAI colleague to destroy documents. The colleague confirmed she would comply, Bloomberg reported.
The brief was filed Monday, Aug. 31, in support of Apple's motion for expedited pretrial fact-finding in its trade secrets lawsuit against OpenAI.
Apple's lawyers said OpenAI only recently provided a critical piece of evidence: an Apple-issued MacBook that former engineer Chang Liu had been using since leaving the company.
Initial forensic ***** ysis of the laptop found that Liu and colleagues at OpenAI "were well aware" of his continued unauthorized access to Apple's third-party cloud storage providers. The filing alleges Liu also "sent instructions for destroying evidence to an OpenAI colleague who confirmed she would comply."

A laptop used to be something you bought once. Apple just made it something you can pay for every month.
Instead of buying a MacBook or an iPhone outright, customers can now lease one through Apple for a recurring monthly payment. It puts the device itself alongside services such as iCloud and Apple Music in the growing pile of bills that never quite go away.
That same logic has quietly spread almost everywhere else. Tesla charges $99 a month for its Full Self-Driving feature, with Elon Musk warning that the price will climb as the technology improves. HVAC contractors are pitching homeowners on "comfort plans" that bundle a furnace, a compressor, and a decade of maintenance into a single monthly bill, with no upfront cost required.
Car washes have turned an inherently one-off transaction into a membership business. Restaurants are experimenting with drink clubs and meal passes.

An American Airlines flight landed safely in Dallas after a laptop battery caught fire on board, prompting flight attendants to contain the fire and emergency personnel to meet the aircraft, officials confirmed to Fox News Digital.
American Airlines Flight 2398 was approaching Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) on Friday after departing Atlanta when the crew reported a laptop battery fire, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Flight attendants contained the fire with a thermal containment bag, the FAA said.
The Airbus A321 landed safely at DFW at about 6:55 p.m. local time, according to the agency. The FAA is investigating the incident.

Coming home to find some of your belongings have been stolen can quickly turn an ordinary day into a stressful, emotional, and financially draining experience. Fortunately, renters insurance typically covers theft, helping to replace items stolen from your home, up to your policy limits.
However, not every theft-related incident is covered the same way. Here's a closer look at what renters insurance usually covers and where coverage may fall short.
Most standard renters insurance policies cover your personal belongings if they are stolen or damaged, whether the loss occurs inside or outside your home. Covered items can include everything from electronics and furniture to clothing and sentimental keepsakes.
For example, if you return home from a trip and discover that someone has broken into your apartment and stolen your laptop, TV, and jewelry, your renters insurance may help pay to replace those items, up to your policy's coverage limits.

If there's a fire in your apartment, renters insurance can help replace any damaged items. It may also help pay for smoke-damaged items, temporary hotel stays, and certain expenses if you can't live in your rental while it's being repaired.
The biggest thing to know is that renters insurance covers your stuff, but not the building itself. So your couch, clothes, laptop, mattress, and dishes may fall under your policy, but the walls, floors, roof, and built-in appliances likely fall under your landlord's insurance.
Depending on your policy, fire damage may trigger several different parts of your renters insurance coverage at the same time.
Personal property coverage helps pay to repair or replace any items you own that were damaged as a result of a covered fire.
