Chinese e-commerce giants such as Shein and Temu have reshaped the retail landscape amid economic uncertainty, higher prices, and cautious consumer spending by offering shoppers a wide range of products at extremely low prices.
Their growth has prompted established companies such as Amazon, Target, and Walmart to invest in strategies like third-party marketplaces, supply chain infrastructure, and digital tools to keep pace with changing consumer habits.
Now, one online-first fashion retailer is taking a different approach. While many established brands have been reassessing their physical footprints and closing underperforming stores, this e-commerce fashion company is moving in the opposite direction by expanding its brick-and-mortar presence in the U.S.
Founded in 2020 as an online-first womenswear brand, Cider has built its business around affordable, trend-driven fashion and a digital-focused shopping experience.
Cider opened its second permanent U.S. retail location on September 4, 2026, at Westfield Valley Fair in San Jose, California. The 11,269-square-foot store is located at 2855 Stevens Creek Blvd., ****** e No. 2411.

Major supermarket chains, including Kroger, Stop & Shop, and The Raley's Companies, are in the middle of a downsizing mode that began in 2025 and will continue for some companies through 2027.
Kroger said it expected to close approximately 60 stores across its portfolio by the end of 2026, according to the company's first-quarter fiscal 2025 earnings call. Giant Ahold Delhaize's Stop & Shop chain confirmed in July that it will close store locations in Basking Ridge and Westfield, N.J., also in 2026
And now Raley's has said that it will close another Northern California store located in Petaluma, Calif., on Jan. 26, 2027, affecting 48 workers' jobs.
The closures are part of Raley's regional downsizing plan that calls for seven store closings in California and Nevada. Raley's said it will offer transfer opportunities to as many affected employees as possible, KSRO radio reported.
The Raley's Companies cited local market conditions and long-term financial sustainability for the downsizing.

WESTFIELD -- Laurie Canter of the Majesticks Golf Club sits atop the leaderboard after Day 1 of LIV Golf Indianapolis at Chatham Hills.
Canter shot an 8-under par 62, sinking nine birdies and hitting the fairway 13 out of 14 times. Canter helped the Majesticks shoot a combined 17-under-par, giving the team a two-shot lead over Ripper GC and Legion XIII.
Cameron Smith (Ripper GC) and Richard T. Lee (Wild Card) are tied for second place at 7-under par.
The play on the course was just one of the hot topics surrounding LIV's final event of the season. With the tour facing financial uncertainty, buy-in from the top names of the tour could impact its future. One of the tour's biggest and most polarizing names, Bryson DeChambeau, had a strong Day 1 finishing 5-under par. Despite his strong round, DeChambeau said it's difficult quieting the outside noise and focusing on the round at hand.
"It's tough. It's not easy," DeChambeau said during a TV interview after his round. "We definitely have a lot against us. But I think behind the scenes we've got a lot of people that are working hard to make this possible for not only all the players that are out here but all the fans that have come out to these events and the economic impact that we've made in all these places, whether it's South Africa, here in Indy or Australia, numerous places across the world, the UK, all the different places we've been in the U.S. Even Nashville when we played a few years ago was unbelievable.

WESTFIELD, Ind. (AP) — Michael Penix Jr. went through his usual routine Wednesday and Thursday — quarterback drills, seven-on-seven work and mental reps as his Atlanta Falcons teammates squared off with the Indianapolis Colts during two days of joint practice.
Except there was nothing typical about this trip to Indiana for Penix.
The Indiana University graduate spent the week about 90 miles northwest of the Bloomington campus, throwing in front of some familiar fans and an old Hoosiers teammate, Wabash College safeties coach Noah Pierre.
To some in central Indiana, it was a reminder that Penix was supposed to be the quarterback who would revive Indiana football. Instead, his career and the Hoosiers' ascension was derailed by multiple injuries like the one he's now trying to overcome in his third season with Atlanta.
"I've got to talk to my doctor, and I know that call will be coming up soon," Penix said. "I've got to talk to my doctor to see where he thinks I am and see how he feels about everything. Then we'll go from there."

WESTFIELD – Keenan Allen is nothing if not self-aware but after 13 years in the NFL, the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver understands what he brings to a roster.
And what he doesn't.
"Starting out my rookie year, I was slow, so I guess I haven't lost any speed," the newest addition to the Colts receivers room joked Wednesday afternoon at Grand Park, moments after Indianapolis formally announced the franchise had signed the 34-year-old on a one-year, incentive-laden deal worth as much as $8.32 million.
"I'm just able to get open, and I haven't lost any speed. Nothing has really left me."

WESTFIELD — Keenan Allen has always worn No. 13.
Allen made the number famous with the Chargers, wearing it in both San Diego and Los Angeles, and when he went to Chicago in 2024, the No. 13 was waiting for him.
Veteran wide receiver Laquon Treadwell, who is battling for a roster spot right now, has No. 13 in Indianapolis.
But it doesn't sound like Allen is quite ready to give up on the idea of wearing the No. 13 with the Colts.
"I just talked to Laquon about it," Allen said on Wednesday. "We're just going to play it by ear. He's a vet, too, so I definitely don't want to come in stepping on toes."

WESTFIELD — Colts special teams coordinator Brian Mason will coach the two remaining preseason games from the press box on the orders of head coach Shane Steichen.
Mason suffered multiple torn ligaments in his left knee when two players rolled up his leg on the final play of the Colts' preseason tie against the Patriots. Indianapolis team doctors realized immediately that Mason was dealing with something significant.
But the Indianapolis special teams coordinator waved off the cart and walked off the field at Gillette Stadium, and he immediately returned to practice when the Colts were back on the field Saturday. From the sounds of it, Mason is not planning to have surgery on the joint.
"He's pretty tough," Steichen said. "Obviously, he's back out here in a brace. I think, right now, he's going to let that thing heal. He has some serious injuries, which is wild, but he's going to be up in the box for these next two preseason games, just for precautionary reasons."
Mason has coached from the field the last two days, wearing a sizable brace on his left leg.

FORT WAYNE — One day and two matches into the 2026 Indiana high school volleyball season and I must admit: I drastically underrated Fort Wayne Carroll in my statewide preseason rankings.
I slotted the two-time defending Class 4A state champions third behind No. 1 Westfield and No. 2 Plainfield based on who everyone had returning. But after traveling to Fort Wayne and watching those Chargers dismantle both teams Saturday, I can say with full confidence that Carroll is the best team in the state.
And with ample room for growth and a stronger regular-season schedule, it may end up not being very close.
The Chargers, ranked 21st nationally, opened the season with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 27-25) win over Plainfield in a rematch of last year's state final, then dominated 2025 semistate opponent Westfield, 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-16).
Carroll (2-0) has won 52 matches dating back to Sept. 30, 2024, and boasts a 148-10 set differential during that stretch.

WESTFIELD – The Colts held a five-player tryout on Saturday, taking a look at an undrafted free agent rookie quarterback, three veteran wide receivers and an undrafted free agent cornerback.
The quarterback in question, Iowa grad Mark Gronowski, played a single season of Power Five football at Iowa in 2025 after winning a pair of FCS Division I national championships in 2022 and 2023 with South Dakota State. Gronowski spent four seasons with the Jackrabbits (including one red shirt campaign) and finished with a 49-6 record – tying the all-time FCS mark for wins by a quarterback. After his 9-4 campaign in Iowa City in 2025, Gronowski's 58 all-time victories make him the winningest quarterback in NCAA history at any level.
The dual-threat quarterback logged 12,049 passing yards and 103 scores through the air to go with 2,312 rushing yards on 515 carries and 53 more touchdowns. In his lone season with the Hawkeyes, Gronowski finished 166-for-262 (63.4%) with 10 passing touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 545 yards on 130 attempts and logged 16 more scores.
The Miami Dolphins signed Gronowski soon after the end of the NFL Draft in April, but he was cut just over a week ago from Dolphins training camp. The Colts already have four quarterbacks in training camp – having most recently signed veteran Easton Stick for the No. 4 slot during OTAs as Anthony Richardson Sr. and Riley Leonard compete for the backup job behind starter Daniel Jones.
The Colts also took a look at three journeyman receivers, the most veteran among them Josh Reynolds, who the Rams selected in the fourth round in 2017. In nine NFL seasons, Reynolds has played for six different teams – most recently the Jets, where he appeared in five games (with three starts) last fall, grabbing 11 catches for 101 yards before he was placed on injured reserve for the rest of the season with a hip injury. He appeared in nine games with the Broncos and Jaguars in 2024, finishing with 13 catches for 194 yards and a score. Reynolds started all 17 games in 2023 with the Lions, where he recorded 40 catches for 608 yards and five touchdowns.

WESTFIELD — Justin Walley remains the unknown in the Colts' trio of starting cornerbacks.
Sauce Gardner has two All-Pro nods to his name. Charvarius Ward has the accolades and played in Super Bowls.
Walley is still waiting to play his first snap in an NFL game but he's already so important to the Colts that Indianapolis held him out of Thursday night's preseason game against the Patriots, two days after the young cornerback played a heavy complement of snaps in a joint practice with New England.
When Walley got back into the lineup for Saturday's short practice at Grand Park, he showed why the Colts are so high on him. Walley broke up two passes in the end zone, making an impact in a practice that was entirely geared toward the red-zone passing game. On one, Walley went up high to deny veteran receiver Laquon Treadwell; the other came on a play where Walley covered Treadwell's initial route, then cut off the veteran receiver coming back to knock it away.
How the Colts use Walley will likely depend on the health of Ward, who suffered a back injury last week and did not travel with the team to New England. If Ward — or any of the Colts' top trio, for that matter — is forced to miss time, the next player up will likely be former Bengals cornerback Cameron Taylor-Britt, and the Colts could use Walley or Taylor-Britt in the slot. From the looks of it, Walley got some work on the outside in Saturday's practice.

WESTFIELD -- Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson told reporters Sunday he's uncertain of the status of his request to seek a trade from February.
"I haven't really talked to my agent about that recently," he said in his first interview since the start of training camp. "I haven't really talked to anyone about that recently, so I'm not necessarily sure what's going on with that."
Richardson earned the starting quarterback spot as a rookie and in his second season but lost a competition with Daniel Jones last season. He is now competing with Riley Leonard to be Jones' backup. Richardson and Leonard will split snaps in Thursday's preseason opener against the New England Patriots, through coach Shane Steichen has not said who will start.
Richardson triggered a $4.2 million roster bonus Aug. 1, leaving just his $1.145 million base salary as the final cash owed to him on the final year of his rookie contract. That makes Richardson a more appealing option for a team in need of an addition to their quarterback room. Whether that might happen is anyone's guess – Richardson included.
"If that's what the team wants, that's what I want," said Richardson on Sunday when asked if he expected to be on the Colts' regular season 53-man roster. "I just want to be able to help the team, and if it's this team, then I thank God for it. I'm just ready to showcase what I can do and be a winning piece to help this team win."

WESTFIELD – It's been close to 600 days since Anthony Richardson Sr. has played a meaningful NFL snap, and for former fourth-overall draft picks entering their fourth season, preseason games wouldn't typically fit that bill.
But Richardson's situation is unique, as a quarterback who started 15 times for the Colts in his first two seasons and finished with a winning record, lost the starting job entering Year 3, nearly lost his right eye to a freak pre-game accident last October and hasn't taken the field since.
For Richardson, who told reporters Sunday he's uncertain of the status of his request to seek a trade – "I haven't really talked to my agent about that recently. I haven't really talked to anyone about that recently, so I'm not necessarily sure what's going on with that," he said – Thursday's road preseason game in Foxboro, Mass., against the Patriots represents a chance for Richardson to show the world what he still can do.
Barring injury to Colts starting quarterback Daniel Jones, Richardson's next regular season start in the NFL will come elsewhere.
"(Thursday) is just about continuing my repetition and the work I've been putting in. I feel like being out there managing the game and processing the live action plays, that can help me get back into the groove and feel everything out," Richardson said. "I'm excited for it. I've been preparing for it.

WESTFIELD — The Colts were treated to a familiar sight in Sunday's practice.
A sight Indianapolis sorely missed in the second half last season.
DeForest Buckner looked like the game-wrecking nightmare that he's been for most of his career.
"Whenever Buck's out there, you can feel him," Colts head coach Shane Steichen said.
Buckner hasn't been on the field as much as usual through the first nine practices of training camp. The Colts defensive captain's season ended prematurely due to a herniated disc in his neck, an injury that forced Buckner to undergo surgery on New Year's Eve to repair the issue. Indianapolis team doctors cleared Buckner right before the start of training camp, but the Colts coaches have been careful with him, limiting his participation in the first two weeks.

WESTFIELD – Veteran All-Pro defensive tackle DeForest Buckner is still coming to terms with spending the bulk of the Colts' 11-on-11 reps on the sidelines but the 32-year-old said he's just happy to be back breaking a sweat with his teammates and working toward a far more important goal of making an in-game return in Week 1.
After suffering a pinched nerve and herniated disc in his neck during the Colts' Week 9 game in Pittsburgh last season, Buckner missed seven of the final eight games and had surgery to repair his neck on New Year's Eve. There were days early in his rehab process where Buckner couldn't lift more than 10 pounds – a tough realization for the father of three, including a 1-year-old daughter.
Last week, Buckner told reporters he'd been cleared to return to on-field action just in time for the start of camp, but the Colts made clear their team captain would be ramped up gradually. The starting defensive tackle saw his first 11-on-11 reps during Friday's practice and participated in individual drills during the team's first day in pads Monday but was only a spectator during full team action.
He said Monday he hopes to resume his work with the full defense Tuesday.
"It's coming along good. The neck is doing really well. Obviously, a little muscle soreness here and there as expected with the first time getting back out there, but all in all, everything's great," Buckner said. "Just gradually increasing my reps throughout training camp."

WESTFIELD, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts will hold their first padded practice of training camp Monday. That will mark another milestone in the returns from injury for quarterbacks Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson, and cornerback Sauce Gardner.
Jones fractured his left fibula and then tore his right Achilles tendon in games last season. Richardson fractured his orbital bone (eye socket) in a pregame warmup. Gardner strained his left calf after the Colts traded for him in November.
Play Yahoo's new College Fantasy Football game: Create or join a league now!
Where are each of them and what else is worth watching from Colts camp? Here are four takeaways from Yahoo Sports' Sunday training camp visit to Grand Park Sports Campus, where Colts camp is well underway …
Doctors cleared Jones to fully participate in training camp practices. That doesn't mean he's back to 100 percent of his health and mobility before the December Achilles tear, an injury the NFL has historically viewed as requiring a nine-month recovery period (though some players have beat that timeline in recent years). Padded work will help clarify his progress more than last week's shells work.
