It was Shondell's 513th career victory at Purdue, surpassing Hall of Fame men's basketball coach Gene Keady's total of 512. Shondell's achievement was announced and promoted as a Purdue record for most head coaching victories.

The White Sox disappointed in the first game of this four-game series in Houston, falling 6-3 to the Astros.
Things were calm until the third inning, when Anthony Kay saw a little base path trouble after a throwing error and a walk put two runners on. Yordan Alvarez sent Nick Allen in to score with a ground out, but a fly out straight to Sam Antonacci ended any further damage.
The White Sox knotted the score 1-1 right away, as Colson Montgomery doubled in the top of the fourth with one out, Chase Meidroth singlingand him home. Tristan Peters was plunked, and in a pickoff attempt, the ball got away, sending Meidroth to third. Antonacci picked up a walk (without being hit!) to load the bases with two outs. Houston starter Peter Lambert's command in the fourth drastically dropped, as he walked Munetaka Murakami to force in the lead run. Miguel Vargas left the bases loaded with a liner to second, but the Good Guys were up, 2-1.
Braden Montgomery got caught in-between on a Cam Smith liner to right, and as has happened too frequently that ball skipped past him for a triple. Kay was frazzled by the three-bagger, so much so that Nelson Velázquez crushed a home deep and high to left, making it 3-2, Astros.
It got worse from there, as the White Sox mustered no offense while Houston added on. In the fifth, three singles loaded the bases, with just one out. Instead of a pitch that would prompt a ground-ball double play to end the inning and keep the score tight, Kay walked in a run. Kay bounced back with a K, but with two outs was pulled in favor of Trevor Richards, who surrendered a double to Smith double and stretching the deficit to 6-2.

NEW YORK - Amid a troubling stretch for the Houston Astros rotation, an ace restored order. Fourteen games elapsed without an Astros starter finishing six innings before Hunter Brown took the mound at Citi Field on Friday. Half of those games saw their starter work 4 ⅓ innings or fewer, taxing a bullpen showing signs of strain. The rotation posted a 5.64 ERA in that span. Just two teams had a higher one.
The formula feels unsustainable for a team with playoff aspirations, but nor are solutions apparent for this team's pitching instability. Houston has three starters in which it shows trust. One, Peter Lambert, already is nearing a career-high innings total. Another, Hayden Wesneski, has not surpassed 91 pitches yet in six starts back from elbow surgery.
With both Cristian Javier and Tatsuya Imai - the two highest-paid starters on their roster - rested, the Astros will deploy an opener Saturday against the Mets. Bennett Sousa will draw the **** ignment, two days after a messy seventh inning at Yankee Stadium. Javier and Imai would ostensibly be available for bulk innings, but Imai has been on ice, appearing in three games this month.
Houston's bullpen has essentially been operating a man short as a result, magnifying the workload its regular relievers have shouldered. Steven Okert entered Friday with the third-most outings among AL relievers and AJ Blubaugh with the most relief innings in the majors. Okert, Enyel De Los Santos and Bryan Abreu were all among the 33 relievers in the league with at least 52 appearances.
Maintaining key arms for a playoff push is desirable, but the Astros' lack of cushion - a two-game lead over Texas in the AL West after their 3-1 win Friday - complicates strategic rest. So does the rotation's recent lack of reliability, forcing them to rely heavily on leverage relievers to secure wins. Getting more from that group seems critical over the final 27 games of their season.

The Chargers released their first unofficial depth chart of the 2026 season. While coaching staffs frequently remind fans to take early PR-generated depth charts with a grain of salt, this layout highlights several intense training camp position battles, personnel choices, and notable rookie standings.
Here are the key takeaways from each position group following the team's first depth chart release:
Justin Herbert firmly anchors the starting role. As no surprise, Trey Lance secures the direct backup QB2 spot over DJ Uiagalelei, setting expectations for how preseason game snaps will flow.
Omarion Hampton leads as the starting back. Behind him, Keaton Mitchell and Kimani Vidal are locked in a tight committee race for the primary RB2 role. Alec Ingold is the clear FB1, backed up by Scott Matlock. Matlock has also been getting reps at offensive tackle throughout camp.
Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston are listed as the primary starters alongside Tre' Harris. Camp standout Brenen Thompson, who is ahead of Derius Davis and KeAndre Lambert-Smith, is rapidly building momentum to push for meaningful reps by the regular season.

Christopher Lambert canceled his planned return to Steel City Con after collapsing while meeting fans at the Pennsylvania convention one day earlier.
The 69-year-old Highlander star became ill while signing autographs at the Monroeville Convention Center outside Pittsburgh on August 8. A witness told TMZ that Lambert suddenly collapsed before he was transported from the convention by ambulance.
His representative later said Lambert was "perfectly OK" and resting at his hotel, attributing the episode to low blood sugar after the actor had slept poorly and eaten very little. Steel City Con separately said he had become overheated and dehydrated.
Organizers initially announced that Lambert would return on August 9 for photo opportunities and a panel. That plan changed shortly before his scheduled arrival, when the convention said he was still not feeling well and needed additional rest.
Lambert was signing autographs during the second day of Steel City Con when he became ill. According to TMZ, a witness said the actor suddenly collapsed and was then taken from the convention hall by ambulance.

It was set up to be a solid pitching matchup, with Astros SP Peter Lambert (entered game with 3.06 ERA) and Padres SP Michael King (entered game with 3.45 ERA) taking the mound today. Those two held up their end of the deal for a terrific matchup today at Petco Park.
The Astros offense, however, did not.
Houston's bats were held to just 5 hits while striking out 11 times in a game they were able to muster only 2 runs, as the fell to the Padres in San Diego 3-1.
Houston scored it's first run on a solo HR by Taylor Trammell in the 2nd. Trammell's 7th HR of the season tied the game at 1 after San Diego scratched a run against Lambert (L, 8-6) in the bottom of the 1st. It was the only run King (W, 7-8) would allow.
Two walks in the first inning sandwiching a hit let to a sacrifice fly by Jackson Merrill to score Fernando Tatis Jr. in the first to give the Padres the lead. Trammell's solo HR answered that run to tie the game at 1.

Italy's wine producers continue to struggle in export markets, with sales down again in the first four months of the year.
Citing data from government agency ISTAT, trade **** ociation Unione Italiana Vini (UIV) said sales fell 6.8% year on year to €2.34bn ($2.66bn) up to the end of April. Volumes slid 3.7% to 641 million litres.
"These results confirm the difficulties of the wine market and its trade, which is contracting across all producing countries," UIV president Lamberto Frescobaldi said. "An increased presence in emerging and export markets, along with reduced production, are the two directions that Italian wine must pursue."
The latest data underlines how the start of 2026 has offered Italy's wine exporters little respite after a year of declining sales. In 2025, export sales fell 3.7% to €7.78bn on the back of a 1.9% decrease in volumes, hit in the main by US tariffs.
According to the UIV's latest **** ysis of the export data, sales to the US did rise in April, growing 1.6%, although sales over the first four months as a whole were down more than 15%.

Not only were current Alabama Crimson Tide baseball players selected in the 2026 MLB draft, but a few committed to play for the program next season were as well.
Among those were a pair of transfer portal additions, the first of which was selected in the opening rounds Saturday night in Dylan Marionneaux. The Northwestern State transfer was selected in the fourth round, taken by the Chicago Cubs with the No. 126 pick overall.
In addition to Marionneaux, Garrett Lambert also came off the board early Sunday. The Mercer transfer was drafted by the Colorado Rockies, selected with the No. 165 overall pick in the sixth round.
Alabama also had one of their top high school commits selected as well in Hudson DeVaughan, who was drafted in the 19th round at pick No. 569 overall by the Kansas City Royals. DeVaughan is a right-handed pitcher out of Mooresville High School in Indiana, ranking as the nation's No. 125 overall player in the 2026 class by Perfect Game.
All three will likely be names to watch in the coming days and weeks to see whether they sign professionally with those teams or not. If they do not sign, each will then likely play a significant role for the Crimson Tide in 2027.

The Oregon Coast has had a long-term relationship with golf, and the Oregon Coast Invitational is a perfect example. Since its first tournament in 1910, the Oregon Coast Invitational has become a staple for West Coast golfers; only the Oregon Amateur Championship can claim a longer lifespan. The OAC held its 117th annual event on June 22 – 27 at the Riverside Golf & Country Club in Portland.
The Oregon Coast Invitational tournament is set to return on Saturday, July 18 for its 115th year at the Astoria Golf and Country Club, where it has been since 1951. The week-long tournament ends on Saturday, July 25. In a "baseball, mom and apple pie" way, the tournament creates a wholesome, family experience.
"This tournament is different because it really promotes the family aspect," Astoria Club Professional Jared Lambert said. "It's incredible talking to some of these families because you find out that maybe their grandfather came out here 70 years ago. It's been a yearly thing for some of them."
Lambert said that due to the make up of the tournament, many familiar players show up year after year. He said that can create camaraderie.
"Each of these players develop relationships," Lambert said. "Due to how the tournament works, many golfers will end up playing each other multiple years in a row. This opens the door to friendly competition between golfers. Some guys might be trying to get revenge from a loss a couple years ago. We also have cases where golfers are looking to continue their family's legacy of success at this tournament."

HOUSTON — Christian Walker and Isaac Paredes hit solo home runs, and four pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout, and the Houston Astros beat the Tampa Bay Rays 2-0 on Sunday.
Walker led off the fourth inning with his 20th home run of the season, giving him five consecutive 20-homer seasons. Paredes hit his 12th homer to leadoff the sixth.
Peter Lambert (7-5) struck out six while he allowed three hits and walked one over 5 2/3 innings. He was removed with a runner on second base, but Steven Okert got pinch-hitter Ryan Vilade to fly out to end the threat.
Okert pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning, and Bryan King worked around a leadoff single in the eighth before Josh Hader overcame a leadoff walk in the ninth for his ninth save. Hader has allowed one run and two hits over 15 innings this season.
Mason Englert (0-2) allowed the two runs and five hits with a career-high nine strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings after being recalled from Triple-A Durham before the game. Cam Booser and Craig Kimbrel followed and combined to hold the Astros scoreless for 2 1/3 innings.

Harry Styles has reportedly been invited to Taylor Swift's wedding, but will not attend.
The pair dated from 2012 to 2013. Styles is reportedly the inspiration behind Swift's track, Out of the Woods.
Swift invited Styles to her New York nuptials this weekend, according to Variety. However, he won't be attending because he is in the middle of his Together, Together tour in London.
However, reports claim that Styles' fiancée Zoe Kravitz will be there without him. Swift and Kravitz are longtime friends, and Kravitz is a credited songwriter on Swift's song, Lavender Haze.
Other high-profile guests are believed to include Bella and Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez, Sabrina Carpenter, Ed Sheeran and Ice Spice. Miranda Lambert, Kelsea Ballerini and Jack Antonoff are also expected to be there.
According to Variety, official digital invites all contained watermarks with guest names. Each invite came with an NDA. It's believed guests have been told to be in New York City by the morning of July 3 and await further details.

We asked. You answered.
The answers seem to indicate a common thread: Astros fans have more faith in Hunter Brown to have a dominant 2nd half than they do in Mike Burrows, Tatsuya Imai or Spencer Arrighetti to be even decent the rest of the season.
The poll was fashioned in such a way to flesh this out. Arrighetti leads the team currently with 7 wins, but he has struggled badly for a month. Imai has 5 wins, but it seems every time fans feel they are ready to trust his electric stuff that he suddenly has a complete loss of command and lays an egg. Lambert has 6 wins, has clearly been the most consistent of the pitchers not named Brown, but also has never had his current level of success at the major league level and it seems many fans are simply waiting for the bottom to fall out.
Meanwhile, Brown only has 1 win this season in the 25.1 innings that he has pitched this season.
Yet it was Brown most fans believed will finish the season with the most wins. That is a big indictment on fan sentiment towards an overwhelming majority of the rotation, and underscores the idea that despite the outfield’s offensive meekness, adding an impact starting pitcher at the deadline should be the team’s first order of business.

After taking a series from the Colorado Rockies, the Twins are heading to Houston to face the Astros. An up-and-down season has Astros in a similar spot as the Twins: just below .500 and fighting to cement themselves in the playoff race. Also like the Twins, Houston has pretty much one good hitter who is among the best players in baseball (Byron Buxton/Yordan Alvarez) while the rest of the lineup is pretty suspect despite decent numbers as a team.
The Twins already took a series from the Astros in mid May but have been very good since then, going 22-12 while winning five straight series. The Twins, meanwhile, have gone 17-18 since their last matchup while winning four their past five series (and who counts the Dodgers anyway).
Tonight it’s Zebby Matthews vs Peter Lambert in a matchup of pitchers that makes you ask, “are either of these guys actually good?” We likely won’t get an answer but the parallels between these teams simply never end.

Taylor Swift is one of the biggest celebrities in the world, selling out stadiums and always in the headlines. Swift and Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce have grabbed the spotlight since they began their relationship in 2023, and now the power couple is heavily rumored to tie the knot in New York next weekend.
However, days before the highly anticipated wedding, Swift made a virtual appearance at the farewell concert for country icon Alan Jackson, and she got a somewhat surprising reaction from the crowd.
Jackson announced his plans to retire from performing ahead of this tour, which was labeled "Last Call: One More for the Road – The Finale." Swift, who started her career in the country genre, paid homage to a legend by making a video appearance during the show at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
She was one of many celebrities, including Keith Urban, Lainey Wilson, Miranda Lambert, and Luke Bryan, who paid tribute to Jackson with a live performance or a video.
However, unlike the other celebrities, Swift was not greeted particularly kindly by the crowd, as the pop icon was booed at the show.

We live in a college football world of lists, rankings, and countdowns. Many players on Notre Dame’s roster have been talked about and written about over the last few months — so let’s fall in line.
This will be my official Top 20 Notre Dame Football Players ranking. I will unveil each player, and list the three things I like about them. It seems simple enough, but I have no doubt that some of these ratings will be highly criticized, but you can always share your thoughts in the comments below.

In the game of football, size definitley matters. Well… it matters most in the trenches, where it’s the clash of the ******* ans on just about every play. At 6’7” 325 pounds, Lambert is one of those “get off the bus furst” guys that you want. The thing is though — he still looks like he could gain another 20+ pounds and still be effective. He’s huge now but could be his very own ******* an later.
