In less than two weeks, Louisiana football will be gearing up for its 2026 season opener vs Lamar on Sept. 5, and the anticipation only continues to grow.
The Ragin' Cajuns wrapped up fall camp on Aug. 22, using the majority of their final scrimmage to work on situational plays, goal-line sets and redzone drives. Now fifth-year head coach Michael Desoremeaux and his staff will try to continue to put the pieces together as they hope to outdo 2025's 6-7 overall finish.
The biggest positive heading into this final offseason stretch for UL is the impending return of wide receiver Shelton Sampson Jr., who missed the entire preseason camp due to a knee injury. Sampson's return, however, doesn't put an end to the injury bug that lingers on the Cajuns roster.
"Injury-wise, we got some good and bad news, Brock Chappell and Broderick Stewart didn't finish the scrimmage," Desormeaux said. "They're going to go see the doctors today and we're hoping that it's not a long-term deal. They feel like Brock's is probably not. Broderick, we're gonna wait and see the image and what it looks like.
"Maxie [Baudoin IV] did miss the scrimmage last week, it's nothing major just some stuff that he's kind of having. Just a little bit of aggravation in his arm so I'll feel good about getting him back."

David Bailey is officially on the board.
The highly-touted first-round pick had a pretty quiet first preseason showing against the Bucs, but he was able to make his presence felt early in Pittsburgh on Saturday night.
With the Steelers lining up for a third-and-eight on the brink of field goal range, Bailey flew past OT Broderick Jones and brought down QB Will Howard for an 11-yard loss.
It was (unofficially) the first of what figures to be many sacks in his NFL career.
"It felt amazing, it was a sense of relief," Bailey told Brian Costello of the NY Post postgame. "It felt good knowing that my interior line did their job and the coverage did their job and just allowed me to capitalize."

Kristen Doute shared a photo of Kaia with whom she welcomed with fiancé Luke Broderick in June 2025, informed her followers that her baby girl wasn't feeling well. She shared a photo of her daughter asleep in bed alongside a caption about her welfare.
"Little angel had a super high temp last night and we took her to the ER. this is the scariest part of being a mama," she wrote on Monday, Aug. 17.

The largest indoor pickleball event held anywhere in the world was held last weekend, with 3,400+ players descending into Birmingham, England for the 2026 English Open, powered by the ****** ociation of Pickleball Players (APP) and continuing a multi-year relationship between the US-based tour and the biggest European organization out there.
Let's do a quick recap of the results, highlighting the winners, the upsets, and the top International players who made waves. The event featured a slew of pros from the US, joined by some of Europe's top players and even some visitors from the East.
Ignasi De Rueda, who plays out of Barcelona and is one of the top Spanish players who plays primarily out of the continent survived the massive draw to take gold. In the final, he topped APP Next player Jake Bower. Bower had taken out top APP player Livornese in the quarters and Poland star Mateusz Matysik to earn his finals spot. Meanwhile, De rueda crushed another APP Next star Jayden Broderick in the semis before a tight 11-9 third game win for the ****** le.
In a great display of the spread of the game, the semis of the Women's draw featured players from Spain, Croatia, Netherlands, and the USA. Of course, the Croatian actually plays in the States, while the Dutch player primarily plays in Australia, so you just can never tell. Dutch star Roos van Reek topped APP next star Brooke Revuelta in one semi, while Croatian-born Domenika Turkovic (currently No. 4 on the APP tour) made fast work of Barcelona-based in the other. In the final, Turkovic outlasted van Reek for the ****** le.

A year ago, one of the stars of the NFL preseason was undrafted rookie center Willie Lampkin, who was playing for the Rams and putting on a show, repeatedly knocking opposing defensive linemen on their backs. Unfortunately for Lampkin, he was injured before he could earn a roster spot, and the Rams waived him with an injury designation with the hopes that he would clear waivers and end up back in Los Angeles.
The Eagles, however, recognized Lampkin's talent and made the rare decision to claim the injured undrafted rookie off waivers. That meant Lampkin spent last season rehabbing his injury and developing in Philadelphia, and now he's impressing again in the preseason, with the Eagles.
Lampkin looked great in the Eagles' preseason opener and is drawing attention in particular for one particular play: On a third-and-15 pass, Lampkin kept Ravens defensive tackle Broderick Washington far away from Eagles quarterback Andy Dalton. Some offensive linemen think their job in pass protection is done once the ball is thrown, but the tenacious Lampkin kept blocking Washington, driving him down the field and ultimately throwing him to the ground.
Lampkin was a starting guard for five years of college football, and at North Carolina he was a first-team All-American and won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the best offensive lineman in the ACC. With that kind of résumé, you'd think he would have been a top draft prospect. But at North Carolina's Pro Day, Lampkin measured at just under 5-foot-11, and he weighed 279 pounds. NFL teams don't want offensive linemen who are that small. Lampkin went undrafted.
His size hasn't seemed to matter, however, as he's routinely getting the better of much bigger defensive linemen. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said last week that every time he watches the offensive line practice tape, he sees Lampkin doing well.

Aug. 6—GRAND FORKS — The UND football team wore full pads and brought in local officials on Thursday morning as the Fighting Hawks went through fall camp Day 8.
Here are five observations from practice.
Although the offense has had the better of the defense the last few days, UND's true freshmen defensive tackles — twins Mason Beaver and Isaac Beaver of Kearney, Mo. — have shown a knack for getting into the backfield.
Early during live hitting, Mason brought down UND hard-nosed running back Griffin Broderick. Later, Isaac had a five-play stretch in which he was in the backfield twice — the second time he flushed quarterback Jack Sulik for what might have been a quarterback sack.
UND has shown at fall camp it's planning to start Logyn Eckheart and Albany transfer Kylyn Macklin at tackle, but the Beaver twins are pushing the next mix along with Eastern Illinois transfer Kefa Pereira (6-1, 305) and Tyler Henry.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Andrus Peat has announced his retirement after 11 seasons in the NFL.
Peat, 32, spent the 2025 season with the Steelers. He played in six games and made three starts, mostly filling in at left tackle after Broderick Jones suffered a season-ending injury.
Peat was injured himself, suffering a concussion against the Baltimore Ravens that allowed Dylan Cook to seize the left tackle job. Peat returned for three final games as a reserve and also dressed by did not play in the playoff loss to the Houston Texans.
He became a free agent this March when his contract with the Steelers expired and he did not sign with another team.

On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers will report to Saint Vincent College for training camp. It will be the 59th year the Steelers have held camp at Latrobe, missing only during COVID. We already gave you the rundown of five storylines to watch and now we offer up four more storylines we have to keep an eye on.
Despite the addition of veteran Michael Pittman Jr., the Steelers still need to see a significant ***** p in production from the team's slot receiver. This will come down to rookie Germie Bernard and veteran Roman Wilson. We want to see the two of them duke it out in practice reps and in the preseason and see if the rookie can hold off the veteran with something to prove.
We had hoped the Steelers and Porter would have already agreed to terms on a contract extension but unless they announce something on Monday, we expect Porter Jr. to "hold in" at training camp until the two sides agree, even if it means the Steelers have to restructure some contracts to get it done.
We know that defensive coordinator Patrick Graham has said he plans to move Jalen Ramsey back to a slot cornerback, hybrid linebacker in his defense but we want to see if the lack of depth at safety shows itself and forces him back to safety again in 2026.
There's no doubt offensive tackle Broderick Jones will start training camp on the PUP list and we wonder if he will be available at all, but there is speculation that defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day will also be on the PUP when training camp kicks off, which shuffles the defensive line rotation.

The Baltimore Ravens do not lack star power on defense.
Trey Hendrickson gives Baltimore a premier edge rusher. Roquan Smith remains the centerpiece at inside linebacker. Kyle Hamilton and Malaki Starks could form one of the NFL's most versatile safety duos, while Marlon Humphrey, Nate Wiggins, and Chidobe Awuzie give the secondary established names at cornerback. Nnamdi Madubuike, Travis Jones, Calais Campbell, and Broderick Washington headline a defensive front with power, experience, and proven production.
Training camp, however, is rarely defined only by the stars. Baltimore's championship hopes could also depend on the players fighting for rotational roles, special teams spots, and final roster positions. Those names will not receive the same daily attention, but they could shape the depth chart once pads come on.
Here are under-the-radar defensive players to watch when Ravens training camp opens.
Peebles is one of the more intriguing defensive linemen on the roster because his path is tied to Baltimore's depth up front. The Ravens have high-end talent on the defensive line, but Anthony Weaver's group will need more than four trusted players to survive a full season. Peebles has an opportunity to show he can provide interior quickness, disruptiveness, and energy behind the established rotation. If he flashes during one-on-one periods and holds up against the run in team drills, he could force the Ravens to think hard about keeping another young defensive lineman.

Championship teams aren't built by stars alone. We've seen this yearly from the Baltimore Ravens and each of the other 31 franchises. For every Lamar Jackson, Kyle Hamilton, or Roquan Smith, there's another player whose importance only becomes obvious when he's asked to shoulder a larger workload.
Those players rarely dominate headlines, but they often determine whether talented rosters reach their potential. Broderick Washington could become one such player for the Ravens in 2026.
After missing most of last season while recovering from a torn Achilles, he enters training camp healthy and with an opportunity to reclaim a key role along Baltimore's defensive front. It's a position that may carry more significance than many realize.

In 2025, Washington missed all but three games due to injury and was in the starting lineup only once. The reality is, the Steelers like Iheanachor a lot and taking him tells us a lot about where the team is with Broderick Jones. Our prediction is that as a rookie, Iheanachor is going to eventually supplant Dylan Cook as the team's starting right tackle.
We love Bernard's versatility and expect him to slide into the WR3 slot immediately. He's going to get plenty of snaps but probably not a ton of targets as a rookie. We do like the idea of him being able to move around the formation and free up the other receivers to move around.
Once Aaron Rodgers signs, the clock starts for Mason Rudolph and the battle between Will Howard and Allar. Realistically, Allar ends up the No. 3 quarterback and is inactive most weeks.
Everett is an ultra-athletic football player but is very raw. He's been tremendous in minicamps and is quickly climbing the depth chart to the point he could be the first outside cornerback off the bench.
Of all the rookies, Dunker might be the player who ends up fast-tracked into the starting lineup. He might not be the starting left guard Week One but we do expect him to take over the job at some point during the season.

Austin Reaves is expected to decline his $14.8 million player option this summer and sign a new contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers. Reaves finished the 2025-26 season averaging 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.5 ******* ists on 49.0% shooting. Because of the effort he produced this season, many people thought he was an All-Star.
Because he's now viewed as an All-Star, Reaves believes that he should be paid like one. According to reports, the undrafted guard is projected to sign a five-year, $241 million contract extension. That offer can only be given by the Lakers. That possible contract extension reduces to a four-year, $178 million agreement if he decides to join a different team, such as the Brooklyn Nets or the Chicago Bulls.
According to Broderick Turner of the LA Times, Austin Reaves still wants to stay with the Lakers and sign the maximum contract extension.
"He bet on himself. He stands to make a five-year, $241 million deal for the Lakers if they offer him that deal. Or if he goes to a team like Chicago, a team like Brooklyn, he can get four years, $178 million. Those teams will kind of lurk around. But based on what I understand, what I keep hearing, Austin wants the max," Turner said.
"Is he willing to give the Lakers a hometown deal? How? I'm not so sure about that. Maybe he does, but maybe his reps don't want him."
