Barclays Women's Super League fixtures for the 2026-27 season have finally been released.
The schedule is always published later than many supporters would like because a number of clubs share stadiums with men's teams. The league therefore has to wait until the fixture lists for the top five tiers of the men's game have been finalised before confirming dates.
It should be a slightly less congested campaign for ***** nal than last season. The club are not involved in the FIFA Women's Champions Cup, avoiding a trip to Miami, while there is no Subway Players' Cup either, as clubs competing in the UEFA Women's Champions League are exempt on player welfare grounds.
The previous format, which awarded Champions League clubs a bye to the quarter-finals, provided a significant advantage. The fact that only ***** nal, Chelsea and Manchester City have ever won the competition suggests that format may not have helped competitive balance. With none of those three clubs involved this season, a new name will be added to the trophy.

According to a report from L'Équipe, Mamadou Sangaré (24) has left RC Lens's squad as he closes in on a move to Brentford FC.
The Mali international was with the Lens squad in Italy as they participated in the Como Cup, albeit he was not involved in the two matches on Tuesday. Saudi Arabia government official Turki Alalshikh's investment deal into Derby County could be finalised as early as next week.
Alalshikh, co-founder of boxing promotion company Zuffa, is interested in buying a stake in the Championship club and there has been a deal on the table with English football's independent regulator since May.
With final checks set to take place, his investment is expected to be given the green light in the coming days, BBC Radio Derby reports.
The proposed deal had raised concerns among human rights campaigners, including Amnesty International, which last month said the independent regulator faced a "defining test" over the investment.
Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority - and someone who is close to the Kingdom's de facto ruler Mohammed bin Salman - has been criticised by human rights groups for his role in alleged 'sportswashing'.

Gianni Infantino is billing it as the democratisation of football.
But Fifa's announcement that it aims to sell off stakes in its football competitions - including the World Cup - to private investors via ***** ociates of US President Donald Trump has been met with incredulity and rage from fans, politicians and regional governing bodies.

ACCIONA Energía has finalised the sale of a 361MW portfolio of operational wind farms in Spain to Galp New Energies in a deal valued at €432m ($491.2m).
The transaction, which covered ***** ets with no financial debt, was signed and closed simultaneously, with all proceeds received at closing.
The portfolio comprises 15 wind farms in the provinces of Ciudad Real, Guadalajara, Navarra, Palencia, Seville and Zaragoza.
The wind ***** ets have an average operating age of 21 years, with an average commercial operation date of 2005.
They are expected to generate around 800GW-hours of electricity annually and currently operate on a merchant basis.

Ireland have announced a 14-member squad for the first three ODIs of their five-match series against Afghanistan, beginning on August 5, with several first-choice players unavailable due to injuries. Manchester City have confirmed that Josko Gvardiol has signed a new long-term contract.
The new deal will keep the Croatian centre-back at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2031, with the option of a further one-year extension.
The new agreement ends speculation over Gvardiol's future. Several clubs across Europe were interested in Gvardiol but verbally agreed to remain at City before jetting off for the World Cup.

Real Madrid are hoping to complete a blockbuster double transfer in the next few days, as they aim to finalise Jose Mourinho's squad ahead of the 2026-27 La Liga season getting underway in a few weeks' time. In recent weeks, Real Madrid have turned their attention back to Rodri. Despite already having an agreement on personal terms in place with the former Atletico Madrid and Villarreal midfielder, they have been quoted €80m to get a deal done now, whereas they are presently only willing to pay €50-60m.
It will be interesting to see how the Rodri situation develops over the coming weeks. Real Madrid will hope that Man City relax their stance sooner rather than later, knowing that they are unlikely to be able to agree a new contract with the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner.

The Saudi Pro League (SPL) has confirmed the fixture schedule for the 2026-27 Roshn Saudi League season, with the campaign set to begin on August 13, 2026, and conclude on May 29, 2027.
The 34-round season will feature 306 matches, with the fixture list finalised on Friday following a workshop attended by all clubs. During the session, the SPL presented the scheduling methodology and the wider sporting calendar, while clubs were also invited to submit requests regarding match sequencing and scheduling before the fixtures were approved.

A consortium led by British-Indian millionaire businessman Amit Bhatia has expressed an interest in buying a minority stake in Liverpool.
Bhatia, the son-in-law of the Indian billionaire businessman Lakshmi Mittal, was director and co-owner at QPR for 18 seasons but stepped down from the board and relinquished ownership of the club on Tuesday afternoon.
In a statement, Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) told BBC Sport: "An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club."
BBC Sport understands that the deal has not yet been finalised with FSG.
If the investment was to proceed, it would follow a similar structure to deal made in 2023, when FSG sold a minority stake in the Reds to global sports investment firm Dynasty.
