Liverpool have an incredible African sensation at the club.
Pedro Marques is one of those figures behind the scenes who very few people talk about yet plays an imperative role in the structure of the club.
His official role is described as the Director of Football Development for FSG and Liverpool. Although without a second club for FSG, Marques has been just working for the Reds since he was appointed in 2024.
Marques came from an impressive background. He worked wonders at Benfica and has continued his excellent reputation at Anfield.
The Portuguese man isn't in charge of senior recruitment per say, but he plays a key role in the identification of talent across the globe and in bringing some of the best young players to the club.

Real Madrid closed out matchday five of La Liga with a 4-1 win over Rayo Vallecano at the Santiago Bernabéu, with Kylian Mbappé scoring twice against Rayo goalkeeper Emil Audero. The victory moved Real Madrid level on points with Barcelona at the top of the standings.
Mbappé opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 14th minute after Florian Lejeune fouled Alvaro Carreras in the area. Three minutes later, Carreras exchanged passes with Mbappé and finished to double the lead after Lejeune had lost possession under pressure from Vinícius Júnior.
Jude Bellingham made it three before the interval, converting Vinícius Júnior's cut-back after the Brazilian had driven down the left. Real Madrid therefore took a commanding three-goal advantage into half-time, with Mbappé also hitting the post late in the first half.
Rayo Vallecano reduced the deficit in the 51st minute when Sergio Camello scored after a turnover, and the visitors created further openings as they tried to work their way back into the game. Thibaut Courtois made saves during Rayo's improved second-half spell, while Pedro Díaz struck the post.
Mbappé settled the contest in stoppage time, finishing a move created by Arda Güler to make it 4-1 and complete his brace, as detailed in the original match report. The second goal took Mbappé to seven goals in six appearances in all competitions.

Xabi Alonso admitted he would love Chelsea to give him a "boring game" after their defensive woes allowed Hull to escape Stamford Bridge with a 2-2 draw on Saturday.
Alonso's side were cruising after Morgan Rogers drilled home in the seventh minute, but once again they paid the price for some sloppy defending.
Hull's Algerian winger Mohamed Belloumi blasted the equaliser after Chelsea failed to clear a long ball.
And Belloumi put the tireless Tigers in front when his deflected shot flashed in before half-time.
Cole Palmer's incisive run and cut-back in the 66th minute allowed Joao Pedro to bag Chelsea's equaliser.

Chelsea welcome newly promoted Hull City to the Bridge today, though Hull have not been playing like newcomers, earning seven points from their first three games, keeping three clean sheets along the way. Can they resist our free-scoring attack? Let's hope not!
Xabi Alonso has made a couple changes to the usual early mix, with Maxence Lacroix taking a seat on the bench after starting every single game so far and Malo Gusto deployed at nominal left wing-back, at least according to the published lineup.
Here we go!
Chelsea starting lineup (3-4-2-1)
Martínez | Hato, Colwill, Fofana | Gusto, Lavia, James (c), Neto | Rogers, Palmer | João Pedro
Substitutes from: Penders, Acheampong, Lacroix, Chavarría, Barco, Quenda, Gittens, Estêvão, Welbeck

Chelsea return to Stamford Bridge on Saturday looking to respond to last weekend's defeat at ****** nal, but Hull City will offer a very different kind of test.
Xabi Alonso's side have scored eight goals in their opening three Premier League games and followed that with a 6-3 League Cup win over Leeds in midweek. Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and João Pedro have already become the main attacking reference points, while Chelsea have scored inside the opening five minutes in all three of their league matches.
Hull, though, have built their impressive start in almost the opposite way.
Sergej Jakirović's newly-promoted side have taken seven points from games against Manchester United, Coventry and Aston Villa without conceding a goal. They remain the only Premier League team yet to be breached this season.
The clean sheets do not mean Hull have dominated games. They had just 26.5% possession against Villa and have regularly been happy to defend in a compact 5-4-1, give the opposition the ball and wait for opportunities to counter. Goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis has already played more passes into the opposition half than any other Hull player, which says plenty about their willingness to go direct.

Xabi Alonso was asked to compare his main striker with the top number 9 in the world right now, and came up with a favourable conclusion.
If you enjoy Talk Chelsea coverage and want to see more of it, add us as a preferred source on Google to make us a favourite and see more of our content.
Joao Pedro just won the Premier League's player of the month for August, after a run of 3 games where he racked up two goals and two ******* ists.
That made it the perfect time to ask manager Xabi Alonso about him and where he sees the striker's ceiling. The big question was asked in yesterday's presser – is JP as good as Erling Haaland?
"I would say yes," replied Alonso when asked if the Brazilian could be put alongside the Norwegian in the very top category of striker.

I have happy memories of this fixture because one of my three goals for Chelsea came against Hull City in the FA Cup.
Hull haven't conceded yet and they are the team I have been most wrong about so far this season.
With every passing week, they are putting more egg on my face but it can't keep happening, can it?
It probably can, but I am still going for Chelsea to win this. The Tigers have defended brilliantly so far, but they are not going to keep out Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Joao Pedro.
Hull will defend ferociously but, as Chelsea showed in the Carabao Cup against Leeds on Wednesday, they have enough quality to play through teams who sit in; and, if they score first, then Hull will have to open up - that's my theory anyway.

Real Madrid host Rayo Vallecano in what should be a manageable game and a decent opportunity for José Mourinho to make some rotations, as he admitted during the pre-match press conference.
PREDICTED LINEUPS
Real Madrid predicted XI: Courtois; Dumfries, Konaté, Huijsen, Cucurella; Camavinga, Bernardo Silva; Güler, Bellingham, Vinicius; Mbappé.
Rayo Vallecano predicted XI: Cárdenas; Ratiu, Lejeune, Ciss, Pedrosa; Valentín, Bouaré; Tsitaishvili, Unai López, Álvaro García; Camello.
Camavinga, Bernardo Silva and Arda Güler will almost certainly feature in the starting lineup after being suspended for Real Madrid's match against Inter. Valverde could get some rest in this one.

The U-20 team secured qualification for the 2nd round of the Copa do Brasil on Thursday afternoon (10) by defeating Cuiabá 4-3 in a penalty shootout in a single-leg match held at CT Rei Pelé! In regular time, the game ended 1-1, with a goal by Contreras!
Rodrigo Cézar, Diego Matos, Guilherme Cruz, and Pepê Fermino converted Santos' penalties, while goalkeeper João Pedro came up with a huge save!
Santos opened the scoring just 4 minutes in after a corner kick taken by Vinícius Fabri. Contreras' first header was saved by the goalkeeper, but he got on the rebound and headed it home to put his team in front.
Still in the first half, the Santos side had more chances to extend the lead, but failed to turn them into goals. In the second half, despite Santos still controlling the match, Cuiabá managed to equalize right at the end, taking the fight for qualification to penalties.
In the next round, Santos FC will face Palmeiras in October, with the date still to be confirmed.

The Fantasy Premier League season is entering week four and plenty of managers will be getting itching fingers, with so many chips at our disposal.
Is it time to play a Free Hit or a Wildcard?
BBC Sport FPL expert Holly Shand looks at some of the biggest dilemmas facing FPL managers heading into gameweek four.
Chelsea striker Joao Pedro (£7.7m) is the most-owned player in the game, in 72.5% of sides. Given that Chelsea have scored eight goals already this season, and face promoted Hull City at home next, it feels like the right time to be moving towards a double up on their ****** ets.
Cole Palmer (£9.6m) and Morgan Rogers (£7.6m) came on as half-time substitutes in the Carabao Cup against Leeds United on Wednesday, with Palmer scoring a double including a penalty, and Rogers chalking up three ****** ists.

An exciting African star is ready to make his move to Liverpool.
The Reds are without a sporting director at the moment after Richard Hughes left the club. But it doesn't mean they are in disarray.
Behind him, Liverpool have a lot of experienced key decision makers when it comes to recruitment. Pedro Marques has done a brilliant job identifying young talent and bringing them to Anfield.
Meanwhile, Julian Ward and David Woodfine have been essential to the club's brilliant recruitment behind the scenes for many years now.
Liverpool may look to promote from within in order to fill Hughes' vacancy or they could look to bring in an external candidate.

Martin Odegaard said ***** nal have proven they will always 'keep fighting' after a comeback win against Chelsea at the Emirates.
Arsenal fell behind inside two minutes when former transfer target Morgan Rogers volleyed Chelsea ahead, with the £117m signing striking low into the bottom corner after the Gunners failed to deal with a set piece.
The champions came back into the game and had a Riccardo Calafiori effort for an offside, but levelled when Kai Havertz drilled inside Emi Martinez's near post on 25 minutes.
An entertaining London Derby continued at a frantic pace, with Pedro Neto striking the woodwork for Chelsea before half-time.
Odegaard ultimately settled the game after a beautifully worked ***** nal goal five minutes after the restart. The Norwegian's call for Kai Havertz to leave Christos Tzolis' pass was granted, with Odegaard emphatically slamming in the winner for the champions.

Arsenal needed to come from behind to win a breathless game 2-1 against Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium as Kai Havertz scored for the third time in the Premier League against his former club.
Havertz netted midway through the first half to equalise after Morgan Rogers, who the champions missed out on signing during the transfer window, had stunned home fans with a volleyed goal after 77 seconds.
The Germany international was instrumental too in Martin Odegaard's 50th-minute winner, executing a delightful dummy to leave Chelsea's defence flatfooted and create room for the captain to rifle home.

It may still be just the start of the new season, but some clear lineup preferences have already emerged — presumably not just for the WAGNH Community but for Xabi Alonso as well. Namely, we know that our best front-three at the moment are Cole Palmer, João Pedro, and Morgan Rogers. And we know that we have to have Maxence Lacroix alongside Levi Colwill in defense. And we know that we want Reece James on the pitch in some way, shape, or form.
So the major decisions in the lineup choices currently revolve around midfield, wing-backs, and the third defender.
For the latter, the WAGNH Community prefer Josh Acheampong over Wesley Fofana by a 49-39 margin.
For the wing-backs, the voters want Jorrel Hato and Pedro Neto, with Pep Chavarría garnering only 27% and Marco Palestra still out injured. Malo Gusto checks in at 43 per cent, not nearly enough at this position, or midfield.
For the midfield, perhaps most crucially, the vote favors Roméo Lavia alongside James. Moisés Caicedo's unknown injury status is reflected in his measly 24 per cent vote share. Still ahead of Valentín Barco, at just 20.

Argentinian dynamo Hector "La Arana" Almonacid has spent years building toward his ONE Championship debut, and it has finally arrived.
The 24-year-old makes his promotional bow against Brazilian standout Pedro "Guerreiro" Dantas in a featherweight MMA battle, which opens ONE Fight Night 47: Stamp vs. Flores on Prime Video, airing live in U.S. primetime from Bangkok's Lumpinee Stadium this Friday, September 4.
Long before any of that, though, it all began much closer to home.
Almonacid was born and raised in Rio Gallegos, Argentina, and by his own account, life among his friends in the neighborhood was a good one growing up. He practiced taekwondo as a kid during that stretch, eventually working his way up to a red belt.
At 8 years old, his parents separated, and he was raised by his mother alongside his younger brother. It was not always an easy road from there, but the structure he had already found on the mats gave him something steady to return to.

CBF president Samir Xaud visited Pedro Pedrossian Stadium, known as Morenão, in Campo Grande on the morning of this Wednesday (2), on the eve of the inauguration of the Football Development Center of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul. Opened in 1971 and with a capacity of more than 40,000 fans, the main stage of football in Mato Grosso do Sul is receiving an investment of around R$ 1 million from the CBF to revitalize the pitch.
Xaud was accompanied by the president of the Mato Grosso do Sul Football Federation (FFMS), Estevâo Petrallás, who presented the stadium's history and detailed the progress of the work, as well as the president of the Mato Grosso Football Federation (FMF), Diogo Pécora, and the State Secretary of Tourism, Sports and Culture (Setesc), Alessandro Menezes.

In an interview with CBF TV, the CBF president commented on the importance of the institutional agenda in Mato Grosso do Sul and praised the history and renovation work at Morenão. The stadium has also hosted Brazil national team matches: a 1-1 draw with Paraguay on February 27, 1991, in a friendly; and a goalless draw with Venezuela on October 14, 2009, in the qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup.
"Today we began our institutional visit to Mato Grosso do Sul, continuing our work toward more participatory management and closer ties with the federations. We are here at Morenão, a stadium with a history shared by the entire state population, and where the CBF has provided funds to help revitalize the stadium, including replacing the pitch, irrigation and drainage. For us, it is another joy to work to help Brazilian football as a whole and the smaller federations," he said.

Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski has taken the big leagues by storm and, in his first full season, is the favorite to win the National League Cy Young Award.
Misiorowski draws a ton of eyes and national media attention, which is very rare for a Brewers player. He has caught the eye of nearly every baseball fan with what he does to the radar gun, and Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martínez sent him a message on X.
"Misiorowski: Keep trusting what you have and don't fear anyone!" Martínez wrote on X before the Brewers took on the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. "I trust you, so trust yourself!"
The Brewers and Cubs played on TBS on Tuesday night, so Martínez was part of the crew breaking down the game. Misiorowski will take the mound on Wednesday in Game 3 of the four-game series, and surely every fan will be tuned in to see what he does against MVP frontrunner Pete Crow Armstrong.

Chelsea made more than £500m in player sales this summer and improved their squad – but it's a little more complicated than that.
If you enjoy Talk Chelsea coverage and want to see more of it, add us as a preferred source on Google to make us a favourite and see more of our content.
Nizaar Kinsella has been looking back at Chelsea's summer transfers now the English window is shut.
As he points out, according to the club's own numbers, Chelsea spent £349.2m and received 437m. That means a net profit of £87.8m. There were a number of really good sales, and the squad is without doubt better now than it was a few months ago. The club think the amount received will eventually reach £500m when add-ons, loan fees and sell-on clauses are considered, improving their standing further.

Alonso sprang a surprise by naming Martinez in the starting line-up - less than four hours after his £7.5m move was confirmed by the club.
It is a lifeline for Martinez, who turns 34 next week and fell out of favour at Aston Villa following a failed move to Juventus and the arrival of **** an's Zion Suzuki as Unai Emery's first-choice keeper.
The World Cup winner's every catch was cheered on by the Stamford Bridge faithful during an **** ured display in goal, though he was unlucky to concede two of Brighton's three goals, his save landing on the feet of Yalcouye for the opener and then getting undone by Joao Pedro's own goal.
His best moment came just before Brighton's second when he made a sharp diving save from Diego Gomez and he also denied Olivier Boscagli and Brighton a third, which would have levelled the score.
Chelsea have spent heavily across the pitch under their new ownership, but for many, a reliable goalkeeper was the missing piece.

Newcastle United earned its first Premier League victory under Matthias Jaissle with a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, as Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa struck after halftime, while Lukas Hornicek also played a major role in net, producing several first-half saves before Newcastle took control.
The Magpies were the better side to start the game, although Tottenham slowly but surely turned into the stronger side through the whole first half and created the better chances past the midway point of the first frame.
Pedro Porro saw one close-range effort blocked, while Mathys Tel and Jan Paul van Hecke both forced good saves from Hornicek. Newcastle struggled to create clear openings, but Amar Dedic and Elanga showed occasional promise down the right.
Newcastle remained compact enough to reach halftime level, with Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman handling Tottenham's central threats well. Nico Gonzalez, making his debut after joining from Manchester City, also settled quickly in midfield and showed his passing range, though he needed time to adjust defensively.
The game shifted after the break. Just past the hour, Gonzalez launched a superb diagonal pass toward Dedic, whose cushioned header found Elanga inside the box. The winger controlled, spun away from Sandro Tonali and drilled a left-footed finish across Antonin Kinsky and in off the far post for his second goal in two league games.

Vasco and Cruzeiro face off this Saturday (29) at São Januário, at 9:20 p.m. (Brasília time), in a match valid for the 25th round of the 2026 Brasileirão.
Raposa sit fifth in the table with 39 points and are looking for their fifth straight win in the league to move into the top four.
Cruz-Maltino, meanwhile, are second from bottom with just 22 points and need to return to winning ways in the competition to avoid getting into even more trouble in the relegation battle.
This Saturday's game comes right between the Copa do Brasil quarterfinal deciders.
Compared to the last match (a 1-0 win over Vitória in the Copa do Brasil), coach Pedro Emanuel chose to start Paulo Henrique, Lucas Freitas, Sosa, Tchê Tchê and Adson in place of Pumita Rodríguez, Robert Renan, Cauan Barros, Ramon Rique and Spinelli, respectively, for Vasco.

On August 13, dLocal (NASDAQ:DLO) reported second-quarter results that were hard to poke holes in. Total payment volume hit $17.7 billion, up 92% year over year, its best pace in more than four years. Revenue climbed 56% to $399.7 million, and gross profit reached a record $127.2 million. For a company whose whole business is moving money faster and cheaper across emerging markets, this was about as strong a quarter as it gets.
Behind the headline number is a business that keeps getting stickier with the merchants it already has. Net revenue retention landed at 153%, the fifth straight quarter above 140%, and TPV retention hit 188%, meaning existing clients are adding countries, payment methods, and products rather than just processing more of the same volume. CEO Pedro Arnt called it "the highest growth rate since the first quarter of 2022."
Brazil and Argentina did the heavy lifting on profitability, with gross profit hitting records of $40 million and $20 million, powered by ride-hailing, travel and e-commerce merchants ramping up. Local-to-local transactions, where money moves within a single country rather than across borders, climbed to 61% of volume, up 6 percentage points from the first quarter, as ride-hailing and on-demand delivery merchants scaled fast.
dLocal is also pushing beyond core processing. Buy now, pay later is now live in eight markets, and the company plans to launch dMore, a merchant of record service that takes on the legal and tax headaches of entering new countries. It's also landing new categories of customers, including artificial intelligence companies and digital **** et exchanges, on top of a base that already includes four of the largest ride-hailing companies in the world.
Not every market moved in the same direction. Mexico's revenue grew 64% year over year, but sequential gross profit slipped as pricing tiers on large merchants matured and dLocal struggled to bring local processing costs down as a share of volume. CFO Guillermo Perez flagged that the company expects upward pressure on its effective tax rate starting in 2027 as countries adopt the OECD's Pillar 2 minimum tax framework, though he said it's too early to size the impact.

Friday practice at MotorLand Aragon produced the closest top three ever recorded on a MotoGP Friday, with Marco Bezzecchi, Alex Marquez and Marc Marquez trading fastest laps in the final minutes of a session that saw the circuit lap record fall three separate times, according to MotoGP.
Marc Marquez had controlled the running from the outset, exactly the kind of dominance his record at Aragon suggests. He owns seven MotoGP wins at the venue, and for most of the session he sat comfortably ahead of ****** le rival Bezzecchi, with Fabio Di Giannantonio in third after recovering from an FP1 crash. That control held until the final quarter of an hour, however, when time-attack runs turned the timing screens red.
Fermin Aldeguer was the first to unseat the #93 , briefly taking P1 before Jorge Martin, Bezzecchi and Pedro Acosta all fired in quick laps. Marc responded with a 1:45.493 to obliterate his own lap record. But the mark did not stand. Instead, Bezzecchi produced a 1:45.455 to ****** top spot from the home hero by just 0.038s, per MotoGP's timing.
Alex Marquez, on Gresini machinery, had been chasing throughout. He got within a few hundredths of the old record on his first attempt and was 0.273s off P1 heading into the closing minutes. His final effort was enough to leapfrog brother Marc but fell short of Bezzecchi and the top spot, leaving the two ****** le contenders separated by that slender margin at the head of the timesheets. As a result, the Marquez brothers were denied what would have been a perfect homecoming on a circuit that has long favored the family.

Where do you start? How do you catalogue the insipidness of Derek McInnes' Rangers team in Jablonec?
How do you catalogue the Pedro-Caixinha-in-the-bushes level embarrassment that the club experienced in their exit from European football on Thursday?
In Jablonec, Rangers were unspeakably awful, devoid of any cohesion, desire, threat, their manager reduced to saying how embarrassed and mortified he was multiple times post-match.
They had one shot on target the whole night, one goal scored in 210 minutes. Rangers fans in the stadium gave it to them with both barrels at the end.
McInnes apologised. The whole scene was cringe-making. He tried to explain what he was trying to do with his multiple switches of formation and attempted to explain why his side were "miles off it".

True entertainers can charm the pants off even the toughest of critics. Although anyone with good Wi-Fi and a clean iPhone lens can go viral, it takes hard work, genuine talent, a whole lot of perseverance, and, of course, innate magnetism to cut through the algorithm and catch the attention of industry gatekeepers and fickle fans alike. And all 31 honorees selected for our 2026 Breakthrough List have done just that.

Actor-writer-director Eva Victor, for instance, went from posting (respectfully) goofy pandemic-era TikTok sketches to darling of last year's Sundance Film Festival with her debut feature Sorry, Baby; now, she calls Pedro Pascal and Olivia Wilde co-stars. For FLO, "Leak It" has established the British trio as one of music's most sizzling R&B acts, while campy duo Haute & Freddy's synthy whimsy and thoughtful lyricism earned them the stamp of approval from a certified pop icon: Lady Gaga. After cutting his teeth with one supporting role after the next, The Shards standout Igby Rigney proves he has what it takes to be one of TV's leading men. Meanwhile, Mexican actor Diego Calva has one Golden Globe nomination to his name, and we predict another coming his way for his tender performance in Jordan Firstman's already-buzzy Club Kid.

Whether they're topping charts with tomorrow's Grammy-winning earworms, delighting audiences in mega-viral social media series, or breathing new life into beloved franchises like Legally Blonde and Baywatch, these artists will remain at the top of our feeds, queues, and playlists for years. Below, meet this year's breakthroughs.

Calling Jon Hamm, Olivia Wilde, and Amanda Peete co-stars is no small matter, but that's reality for Aimee Carrero, a scene-stealer in Apple TV+'s Emmy-nominated Your Friends and Neighbors. A featured player in dozens of IMDb credits thus far, the Dominican-American actress from Miami has a starring role in the comedy One Attempt Remaining (with Jennifer Garner, Kate McKinnon, John Cena, no less) coming down the pike. As for who Carrero thinks will have a banner year? Inde Navarrette: "I love seeing a young Latina woman out there doing her thing."

What was your first job?
Working in a furniture store—West Elm. A celebrity who will remain unnamed came in and ordered a ton of sh*t. It was gonna be a huge commission for me. I went to ring her up, and the card declined. She says, "I'll be back tomorrow." Never came back.

Who should play you in your biopic?
Olivia Rodrigo. You want someone younger and more beautiful than you to do it.

What's the most underrated movie, TV show, song, or album of all time?
Well, it wasn't underrated at the time, but I do think this new generation needs to get into The X Files. Gillian Anderson was my first celebrity crush. There's a new one coming out—Ryan Coogler's—it's gonna be amazing, I'm sure.
