Leeds United have now ended their academy transfer story, with 16-year-old winger Silva Mexes now across the Pennines after leaving Manchester United. MOTLeedsNews reported that the long chase was over once the summer window closed, ending speculation around the Thailand youth international and his next step.
Mexes joined United from Ipswich Town in 2024, aged 14, but he did not make a competitive senior or formal U18 league appearance during 2025/26, spending much of that period with the U16 group. West Bromwich Albion left-back Callum Styles has said he has taken on more of a leadership role in the side after the departures of several experienced players and the arrival of younger talent during the summer transfer window.
Seven new arrivals at The Hawthorns were aged 23 or younger, while three players aged over 30 made their exits this summer alongside Karlan Grant and Kristian Bielik, both 28, and 27-year-old Josh Maja.
The plan to bring more youth into the team means Styles, 26, is one of the older members of the squad.
"I think that's natural [to step into leadership] when you've played a lot of games in the Championship and you're getting older season by season," Styles told BBC Radio WM.

Oxford United have signed winger Luka Lynch from Aston Villa on loan until January.
The 19-year-old arrives having been part of the Premier League club's academy since he joined from West Bromwich Albion aged 14.
Lynch featured 11 times for Villa's under-21s last season, scoring four goals. During the 2024-25 season he was a part of the under-18s squad which won the FA Youth Cup, and the U18s Premier League ****** le.
Oxford head coach Aaron Ramsey described Lynch as "an exciting young winger".

One of the most significant moves for Real Madrid on the deadline day of the summer transfer window, surprisingly, had nothing to do with a direct departure or arrival from the club.

Albeit they've conceded five goals from their opening two Premier League matches, Xabi Alonso seems to have Chelsea back on track after a dodgy 2025/26 campaign as the Blues have opened their season with three wins on the bounce. They beat Fulham 3-2 for their Premier League opener, topped Luton Town 2-0 in the Carabao Cup, and most recently beat Brighton and Hove Albion 4-3 in the league. While the former Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid manager will certainly be hoping for more solidity in his defense, three straight wins is not a bad start to life in the English top flight at all.
Per statistics provided by OptaJoe, Alonso has become only the fourth manager to have his side open up the season with seven or more goals in his first two Premier League matches, and that's not even counting the scored against Luton Town in the EFL Cup. The other three managers to have done this are Bobby Robson in 1999 with Newcastle United, Michael Laudrup with Swansea City in 2012, and Marcelo Bielsa with Leeds United in 2020. Alonso joins an elite list of managers in a start that's breathed an air of reassurance after there was heavy speculation as to whether or not he made the right decision to join Chelsea in hi post-Real Madrid job search.
After his unprecedented Bundesliga ****** le campaign with Bayer Leverkusen in the 2023/24 season, Alonso was a man in HIGH demand throughout Europe and he was someone who was even on Bayern's radar at the time when it became clear they'd need to replace Thomas Tuchel. The who's who of European giants were all keen to try to line him up as their next manager, but Alonso had made the decision to stay with Leverkusen for the 2024/25 season and then ultimately wound up at Real Madrid to replace Álvaro Arbeloa.
Ironically enough, the pair of Spaniards will not be competing against one another in the Premier League as Arbeloa is currently serving as Fulham manager, though his start to life in England has not gone as swimmingly as it has for Alonso as Fulham lost their opening two league matches of the season, the first of which to Alonso's Chelsea and the second of which to Sunderland.

Swindon Town have signed forward Antwoine Hackford from AFC Wimbledon on a two-year deal, brought in Stevenage's Dan Butler on loan, and handed striker Aaron Drinan a new contract.
Hackford, 22, arrives at the Robins for an undisclosed fee after scoring six goals in his only full season at Plough Lane, and becomes manager Ian Holloway's 10th signing of the summer transfer window.
He started his career at Sheffield United, enjoying loan spells at Alfreton Town, Burton Albion and Port Vale, before his permanent switch to AFC Wimbledon last summer.

We lost the possession battle last Monday, too, against Fulham, though that was a bit more even, at a roughly 40-60 split. But Alonso disagrees with the notion that this is part of any sort of overriding tactical approach. In an age when practically every top team wants to play possession-based high-pressing football that struggles against compact low blocks with endlessly boring u-shape passing around the box, it's been quite refreshing to see Chelsea go more direct. Turns out, you can pass forward whenever you want! And you probably should! And you also don't need to play it short from a goal kick either just to invite all the pressure; you can simply bypass all that and boot it up to your complete striker to knock it down or create for himself. Football doesn't have to be complicated: if you can be faster and stronger than the other guy, you already have an advantage.

The 22-year-old, who has signed a four-year contract, spent the first half of last season at The Hawthorns, making 12 Championship appearances before moving to Hull City and helping them win promotion to the Premier League.

Hull City have established their interest in signing Toby Collyer, despite the Manchester United youngster being on the verge of joining West Bromwich Albion.
That's according to Alex Crook, who adds that Hull are keen on bringing the midfielder back to the MKM Stadium following his brief loan spell last season.

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has apologised to Blues fans on the back of Tuesday's 6-1 Carabao Cup exit at home to Brentford.
It was Blues' heaviest defeat since losing by the same 6-1 scoreline at Hull City under then caretaker boss Lee Carsley following Harry Redknapp's departure in September 2017.
And it was the worst at St Andrew's since the club record 8-0 home defeat by Bournemouth in October 2014, another performance under a caretaker boss, Malcolm Crosby, who had taken over in the wake of Lee Clark's departure.
"I can only apologise to the fans that came and spent their money coming to the club to watch their team tonight," Davies told BBC Radio WM. "That's not what any of us want."
