In Apple Inc. v. Liu, No. 5:26‑cv‑07078, Apple alleges that OpenAI Group PBC, OpenAI Foundation, io Products LLC, former Apple vice president Tang Yew Tan, and former Apple engineer Chang Liu engaged in a coordinated effort to obtain confidential Apple hardware designs, supply‑chain intelligence, and unreleased product specifications. Apple claims the misappropriation reached every level of OpenAI's hardware organization and seeks preliminary and permanent injunctions, compensatory damages, a reasonable royalty in the alternative, exemplary damages for willful misappropriation, and attorneys' fees*. The industry has seen versions of this before—emails encouraging departing employees to "bring what you know," or the more extreme mole scenario, as in Deel v. Rippling. These are not just operational failures; they are governance failures that should alarm any board member or investor expecting a clean exit or a stable competitive position.
The risk is accelerating. More than 1,500 federal trade‑secret cases were filed in 2025 – the highest ever – and still only a fraction of the true number. AI proliferation, high employee mobility, and limits on non‑competes ensure that trade‑secret litigation will continue to rise. Meanwhile, companies increasingly rely on trade‑secret protection (surpassing the long-favored patent-or-die approach) recognizing that patents disclose the playbook to competitors and nation‑state adversaries. In a world where competitive advantage is often driven by a process rather than the output it creates, trade secrets are often the most valuable and strategic IP ******* et.
But the governance question is always the same: Did the company actually have protectable trade secrets? That requires: a) legal ownership of the innovation, b) demonstrable uniqueness that creates value, and c) "reasonable measures" to protect it.

When Spirit Airlines collapsed into bankruptcy, the headlines focused on grounded planes and stranded passengers. But the most consequential part of Spirit's liquidation was invisible: the sale of its trade‑secret dataset; decades of operational intelligence, human decision‑making patterns, proprietary algorithms, and workflow histories sold to Google for just $10 million. The real value is at least 10x by any reasonable measure OTHER than what they sold for in a time of liquidation. I would argue that Spirit could and should have had those **** ets valued and kept a running tally long before bankruptcy and, in fact, as a matter of diligence.
Court filings show Google acquired more than 100 million internal emails, 500 million Teams messages, 7.5 billion de‑identified passenger records, 7.2 billion competitor pricing observations, and 30 million lines of code during the bankruptcy auction. These were not mere "data." They were (assuming they were actually owned by Spirit and protected properly) Spirit's trade secrets—the accumulated operational knowledge of a 17,000‑employee enterprise.
And Spirit was forced to let them go for pennies.
This should alarm every CEO, board member, investor, and lender. Spirit's failure wasn't the auction, though they should have been able to attract many more bidders than the two that participated. It was the years preceding it. From all appearances, the airline never formally inventoried its trade secrets, never valued them, may or may not ever have protected them with proper rigor, and never insured them. When the crisis came, Spirit had no idea what it owned or what it was worth.

Miley Cyrus faced a new bullying allegation from former Disney star Jordan Pruitt. Pruitt claimed Cyrus repeatedly mocked her during their younger years. She also alleged that Cyrus left nasty voicemails criticizing her appearance and dancing.
Pruitt made the allegations in an Instagram comment now shared on Reddit. She responded to an old involving Cryus and fellow Disney stars. Pruitt claimed Cyrus treated several people poorly during that period.
A fan then asked Pruitt to share more details about the alleged behaviour. Pruitt claimed, "Miley used to call me and leave me nasty voicemails with her and her friend named Mandy saying I needed a nose job, new teeth, and a choreographer lol. She was relentless."
The former Disney star described Cyrus as "relentless" in the comment. Her allegations appeared alongside a discussion about Cyrus' past behaviour. The post reportedly received more than 1000 likes when screenshotted.
The allegations remain unconfirmed by Cyrus or her representatives. The allegations surfaced after both singers worked within Disney's entertainment circle. Pruitt toured with acts including the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato. She also released music through Disney's Hollywood Records.

Jon Gruden is back in the broadcast booth.
The former NFL head coach and "Monday Night Football" **** yst became a fan favorite for quirky personality and unapologetic love of football. While Gruden is no longer on the sidelines, he did make a one night cameo appearance in the broadcast booth for a Tampa Bay Buccaneers preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Gruden was cast as the play-by-play announcer alongside Bucs' legend Ronde Barber, which represented a departure from his traditional role as an **** yst.
It marked Gruden's first game on the mic since Jan. 6, 2018, when the Tennessee **** ans defeated the Chiefs in the wild-card round.
After that game, the broadcaster would exchange the mic for a spot back on the then-Oakland Raiders sideline as the team's head coach. Gruden eventually resigned from his post in 2021 after some disparaging emails he wrote came to light. During that time, he was also removed from the Buccaneers' Ring of Honor. He has since been reinstated.

On August 17, Google, a unit of Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL), agreed to buy internal business data from bankrupt Spirit Airlines for $10 million, outbidding a $7.5 million offer from AI data company Mercor. The haul includes employee emails, Microsoft Teams messages, spreadsheets, calendars, and marketing and operations records, all to be stripped of customer information before the sale closes at a bankruptcy court hearing. It is a tiny deal by Alphabet's standards. But it says something about how aggressively the company is hunting for raw material to train its AI models.
Google Cloud revenue grew 82% year over year to $24.8 billion in the second quarter, accelerating from 63% growth in the first. That pace dwarfs the 43% growth Microsoft reported for Azure and the 37% growth Amazon posted for AWS over the same period. Google Cloud is still the smallest of the three in dollar terms, but its operating income more than tripled, from $2.8 billion to $8.8 billion, pushing its margin from about 21% to 36%. Its backlog reached $514 billion, roughly five years of work at the current pace, and Alphabet expects to recognize just over half of it as revenue within 24 months. CEO Sundar Pichai said nearly 90% of the Fortune 100 now use its Gemini Enterprise model, with existing customers exceeding their original commitments by more than 50%.
AI is reshaping the advertising side of the business too. Gemini is helping Alphabet find relevant ads for longer, harder-to-monetize searches, while a tool called AI Max uses AI to expand keyword matches and rewrite ad copy automatically. Management has credited AI Overviews and AI Mode with lifting search revenue by making results more relevant, all built on top of a Chrome browser with 68% global market share and a Google Search engine that holds 91%.
Alphabet's headline numbers are less impressive up close. The company reported net income of $112.2 billion on revenue of $119.8 billion in the second quarter, but $98 billion of that came from "other income," driven mainly by a $94.1 billion unrealized gain tied to its early stake in **** eX. Alphabet invested $900 million in **** eX back in 2015 for roughly 7.5% of the company, a position that ballooned in value after **** eX's June IPO priced shares at $135 and closed the quarter at $170.86. Strip that gain out and Alphabet's net income falls closer to $18 billion, which works out to a 35% year-over-year decline in earnings per share. Because the gain is unrealized, it rises and falls with **** eX's stock price and could reverse just as fast as it appeared.

The Baltimore Ravens continue to process the loss of one of the franchise's beloved figures after learning of O.J. Brigance's passing at the age of 56. While many around the organization have reflected on Brigance's remarkable battle with ALS and his lasting impact on the franchise, stories about how special he was continue to pour in.
Jesse Minter, defensive line coach Lou Esposito, and Calais Campbell spoke with the media on Tuesday. Baltimore's head coach offered one of his more personal memories. When asked about Brigance following the team's closed walkthrough before departing for Minnesota, Minter didn't begin with football accomplishments or organizational ***** les. Instead, he recalled a simple gesture from years ago that helped establish a relationship he would never forget.
"To me, the biggest impact, like when I first got hired here the first time, O.J. Brigance sent me an email, and then we sort of started exchanging some emails every so often about different things throughout the season."

Tight end is a difficult NFL position to predict. Players who make the leap to the pros have to juggle blocking and receiving duties in more complex schemes, against faster defenders, than they've ever faced before. Years of wear and tear can break an All-Pro candidate into an also-ran in a single play.
Thus, it's incredibly difficult to accurately rank each team's tight end units in the preseason. In 2019, I ranked the Raiders 32nd out of 32 teams... only for Darren Waller to suddenly and explosively reach his potential, kicking off a wave of angry/satisfied emails and social media mentions from Raiders fans that continues to this day (I apologized to Waller for the disrespect on Radio Row four years later. He seemed OK with it!).
This is all to say, these rankings are not only subjective, but immensely subject to change. Young prospects will rise up and claim their potential. Veterans will see a dropoff or stage impressive revivals. But going off the data we currently have, here's how the preseason 2026 tight end unit rankings look. Stats are from NFL Pro and Sumer Sports where applicable.
Gesicki turns 31 this season. He hasn't had a positive yards after catch over expected (YACOE) since 2020 and saw his numbers drop off after a successful Bengals debut in 2024. Sample is an unexciting but useful piece who gets where he needs to be even if he offers modest returns as a receiver.
All could be the guy who boosts this group into the top 20, but he's also the guy who's played only nine NFL games in two seasons. Until he proves he can fulfill his potential, Cincinnati is stuck here.

Former Raiders coach Jon Gruden wanted his claims against the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell to be resolved in court. Gruden won. And now he has to fully comply with the court's rules.
The presiding judge suggested on Monday that Gruden has not done so sufficiently.
"I remain concerned with Gruden's, Gruden's side's delays and lack of cooperation, lack of compliance with the rules," district judge Joe Hardy said, via **** le Brigham of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The NFL had complained that Gruden was dragging his feet in the discovery process **** ociated with his lawsuit alleging that the NFL deliberately leaked otherwise confidential emails in an effort to force him out as the Raiders' head coach in October 2021.
"No explanation was proffered by Gruden's side that would address the court's concern about the delays, particularly in light of months ago, when I said, in Gruden's favor and against the NFL's position, we're going forward," Judge Hardy said. "Gruden understandably at least represented to me that their side wanted to proceed expeditiously and has done the opposite of that."

The court has extended the protection order to Kylie, Kendall, Kim, Khloé, Kourtney, Rob, and Kris, meaning almost the entire Kardashian-Jenner family now has legal protection. As per the order, DeWick must stay 100 yards away from them. The court has also imposed a no-contact order, barring him from communicating through calls, emails, online platforms, or any other means.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal remains hopeful that India will travel to Bangladesh for the scheduled white-ball series in September 2026. The six-match series, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is, is still uncertain due to several factors. However, Tamim said discussions are underway with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and the Bangladesh board is making efforts to ensure the series takes place.

"Unfortunately, I don't have any news regarding the India series. I am in discussions with the BCCI and there's an exchange of emails happening between BCB members, and we are trying from all quarters," Tamim was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

"Bangladesh's series against India, the excitement is at a different level, I'm sure from journalists, from fans, cricketers, everyone," he said.

India last toured Bangladesh in 2022 for a two-match Test series, where they registered a 2-0 clean sweep.

The BCB president admitted that while he is working towards bringing India to Bangladesh, there are certain matters that are beyond his control.

"Bangladesh is an extremely safe country, and I am very hopeful that they will come. Whatever steps need to be taken from our side, we are trying," he added.

"I am the BCB president, and there is also a line that I should never cross. So from my position, whatever is possible to do within my responsibility, I am talking to people, I am trying to tell them what advantages there are with the India series and all those things," Tamim said.

"There are certain things that are beyond my control. The discussions I've had so far have been very positive discussions. They also have to make a decision. Very soon, perhaps, we will find out whether the series is happening or not. So we will know very soon," he added.

The proposed series comes at a time when cricket ties between India and Bangladesh have faced challenges.

India had decided against travelling to Bangladesh for the T20 World Cup due to security concerns during the previous government led by Muhammad Yunus. The decision had created uncertainty over future bilateral cricket engagements between the two nations.

However, recent geopolitical developments have renewed hopes that India's tour of Bangladesh could go ahead as scheduled.

The World Baseball Classic has been an exciting showcase for baseball on the international stage, but some MLB players, including Bryce Harper, have lamented their inability to taste a gold medal on an Olympic podium.

Last year, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred opened the door to MLB participation in LA28, provided the ballclubs agree. You might've noticed that this year's World Cup broadcasts have featured a heavy dose of on-screen cameos from celebrities, politicians, and the omnipresent FIFA president Gianni Infantino. And that's by design.
According to a recent report by Adam Crafton in The Athletic, FIFA mandate that its production partner, Host Broadcast Services, the company that produces the so-called "world feed" that every broadcaster across the globe uses for World Cup matches, air what's called a "dignitary shot" in each half of each match that showcases "the highest-ranking officials present at a game, as well as those described by FIFA in its accreditation system as "VVIPs" (Very, Very Important People)."
These VVIPs can include "heads of state, confederation officials, celebrities or members of soccer federations," Crafton reports.
The chief VVIP, it would appear, is Infantino, who reportedly made it a goal of catching two matches per day during the World Cup's group stage. Infantino reportedly used a private jet provided by Qatar Airways, a FIFA sponsor, to zip between multiple matches in a day.
The practice of showing Infantino on the broadcast apparently dates back to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, when emails were sent to television crews mandating the FIFA president be shown during the game. Later guidance would specify Infantino should not be shown while using his cellphone.

South African midfielder Jayden Adams has died at age 25 less than three weeks after helping his country advance out of World Cup group play for the first time.
The Mamelodi Sundowns player started South Africa's first two games, a 2-0 defeat against host Mexico and a 1-1 draw against Czechia. He then came off the bench in the 1-0 upset victory over South Korea that sent South Africa to the round of 32.
"The South African Football Players Union is devastated by the untimely passing of Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder, Jayden Adams," the SAFPU said in a statement Saturday. "Jayden had only recently represented South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, carrying the hopes of the nation with pride, courage and distinction. His passing is an immeasurable loss to his family, teammates, clubs, the football fraternity and the country at large."
Neither the SAFPU nor the South African Football ***** ociation immediately returned emails from Yahoo Sports seeking further information on the timing or cause of Adams' death.
Adams came through the youth system of South African club Stellenbosch FC, becoming their first academy product to sign a professional contract. He made 139 appearances for Stellenbosch before joining Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2025.

Most players who will have their name called in the first 50-100 picks have already had their parties express their bonus demands, and the real wheeling and dealing started right after the MLB Draft Combine where most (not all, or close to it) turned in their medicals and there has been some financial maneuvering on all fronts to turn the draft into a more "open market" to some degree.
Add in finances with peak data, performance across all forms of amateur ball, age relevance, development windows, makeup, variance and private workout data; and suddenly, everyone has an internal model to lean on. While you can never say it's an end all item, models have taken over the draft heavier than in-house opinions which means some players have made serious leaps and bounds no matter what the previous feeling or connection was from club-player-agent.

Former NFL defensive end and ESPN/Fox personality Marcellus Wiley has found himself in a very public, and very ugly, divorce. It started over the weekend with his arrest for domestic battery and it continued on Monday, when his wife Annemarie filed for a divorce and sought a restraining order against him.
Her court filings made multiple allegations of rape against Wiley.
"I love my children with everything I am," Marcellus Wiley posted on Twitter. "My highest priority has always been protecting them and preserving the relationship they have with both of their parents. Because of the public allegations made against me by Annemarie, I have been forced to respond with evidence rather than emotion. More importantly, I owe it to my children to truthfully document what they and I have endured.
"To do that, I must address the lies Annemarie has told about me by telling the truth about her and our marriage. Over the years, I have compiled videos, photographs, text messages, emails, and other evidence that directly contradicts those baseless claims and provides a factual record of our family and the events leading to this unfortunate divorce. WASHINGTON, July 6 (Reuters) - The U.S. cyber defense agency CISA is using Anthropic's AI model Mythos to audit government software, three people familiar with the matter said on ‌Monday, another sign of government enthusiasm for adopting the AI startup's tools even as the company ‌navigates an ongoing standoff with the White House.
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency is using Mythos to scan government code repositories for bugs that could leave the door open for foreign spies and cybercriminals, the sources said.
Anthropic did not respond to questions about the initiative. A CISA representative said last month that he would check to see if there was anything to share about the matter but did not respond to further emails.
The scanning is being done by ‌CISA's Attack Surface Evaluation team, according ⁠to one of the sources. The team is a group within CISA that conducts digital security ***** sments and hacking exercises across government.

Let's play a thought ******* ociation game with the John Deere Classic, a tournament that is easy to sneer at but has been a mainstay on the PGA Tour, in some form, as long as I've been alive, and in fact is now more than 50 years old. Here are a few things that come to my brain if you say the words "John Deere Classic" at me:
1. It's at TPC Deere Run, which is either in Iowa or on the border of like four different states2. Zach Johnson and Steve Stricker have combined for at least 27 wins3. It's close to the Open4. The winner is always a million under par5. Spieth
How'd I do? Well first, TPC Deere Run is in Illinois, and while it is very close to the border with Iowa (it was actually in Iowa in the very early days), it is not near four states. I was thinking of the "Quad Cities area" by the Mississippi River, which is right by the course. Zach Johnson and Steve Stricker have combined for four wins (Stricker did a three-peat between '09 and '11), the winner is indeed a million strokes under par, the Open is two weeks away and Spieth has won twice. Not bad!

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Thursday released a tranche of Health and Human Services (HHS) emails that appear to show HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. pressuring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) over its vaccine messaging.
Emails indicate that Kennedy directed the CDC's vaccine advisory panel to restrict access to vaccines, allowed researchers to access "confidential data" to indicate the disproven claim that vaccines cause autism and changed recommendations for the public to receive COVID-19 shots without input from the CDC.
Other emails also show that Kennedy's then-chief of staff, Matthew Buckham, emailed former CDC Director Susan Monarez in August 2025 about the need for a "political review of major decisions at CDC … to ensure that [the Immediate Office of the Secretary] and the CDC political leadership all have eyes on the decisions for approval/changes before they go into effect."
Less than a week later, Kennedy fired Monarez "for failing to rubber stamp recommendations from" the CDC's vaccine panel, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, Sanders said in a statement.
Sanders, the ranking member on the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), blasted Monarez's firing as "outrageous," accusing Kennedy of firing her "for her commitment to public health and vaccines." Sanders requested a bipartisan investigation into her firing and called on Kennedy to resign.

Nine months after he was fired from his position as the boys basketball coach at Garfield High in Seattle, former Portland Trail Blazers all-star Brandon Roy is back.
In a KOMO report, it was announced that Roy had been rehired to his old position.
Roy, a Garfield alum, was fired last September following allegations that he had been a part recruiting push that involved an NBA agent who offered a student a car, money and an apartment if he transferred to Garfield.
While Roy denied those allegations, he was fired two days later.
The Seattle Times reported in March that emails and other records had been obtained detailing why Roy had been fired. Roy also sent a letter to the paper pushing back that he had been fired and would be able to reapply to his old position down the line.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Comedian Carlos Mencia has pleaded not guilty to 12 felony charges alleging he failed to report or pay taxes on more than $8 million in earnings.
The 58-year-old Mencia appeared behind glass in a custody area of a Los Angeles County court at his arraignment on Monday, when a judge also reduced his bail from $250,000 to $50,000.
Mencia had been in jail since his arrest on Thursday. Court documents show that he has now posted bail, but it's not clear whether he has been released.
Emails seeking comment from an attorney representing the comedian were not immediately answered.
He was charged with six felony counts of failure to file personal income tax with the intent to evade taxes — one each for the years 2019 to 2024 — and six similar counts for corporate taxes.
