Panthers head coach Dave Canales told reporters on Tuesday that Brooks and Hubbard will be in a committee to start the season, so Brooks has a chance to capture the lead back role.
A handful of backups or depth RBs have made a push this past week, including Jordan Mason (who I actually like over Aaron Jones Sr. as a draft selection), Braelon Allen (while Breece Hall deals with injury) and MarShawn Lloyd (with Josh Jacobs surrounded by question marks). One other riser I like as a sleeper right now: Texans tight end Dalton Schultz, who has cracked the top 150 on Yahoo and has an underrated chance to be a TE1 and a top target in Houston with Jayden Higgins out for the season.

It really seemed like Ashton Jeanty avoided a devastating injury over the weekend. The Las Vegas Raiders running back reportedly couldn't put weight on his leg on Sunday, but reports said it was a sprained ankle.
ESPN's Ian Rapoport provided more details as Mike Washington Jr. could be the RB1 for the Raiders for a bit: The ankle injury is "more low than high" (there would be bigger concern if it was a high ankle sprain) and it's not major.
On top of that, as he said on NFL Network Tuesday morning, "The reality is, there is a chance that Ashton Jeanty may not be on the field for Week 1. They are hopeful that he will be, there's a chance that he won't be."

The English landscape has been scorched by the multiple heatwaves this summer has brought, and it transpires that King Charles' beloved Windsor Castle hasn't escaped the devastation. A brand-new aerial shot, taken from an aeroplane window, has revealed the extent of the damage on the land surrounding the 956-year-old building.
The photograph was shared by Royal Collection trust on Monday, and the caption read: "If you're flying into Heathrow this summer keep an eye out for a special view of Windsor Castle that not everyone will get to see. These fantastic shots of the Castle, taken from a plane window, were shared with us recently.
"Did you spot the bird's-eye view of the Venus Garden with its perfectly laid out circular patterns?"
Royal fans were quick to point out the burned yellowing grass, with one simply writing: "I see drought..." and another adding: "Aside from everything being horribly dry, it really looks amazing from above." A third penned: "I just can't get over how DRY everything is!" with a fourth commenting: "it's strange to see it all parched."
Luckily, some of the trees and decorative hedges have retained their verdant nature, but the grass is clearly blanched.

When Deshaun Watson booed the boos that rained down from fans on Saturday, the Cleveland Browns quarterback questioned not only his fan base's actions but also their intentions.
"I think the whole world knows it has nothing to do with the performance," Watson told reporters after the 31-7 loss.
The line left plenty to unpack about the history between quarterback and fan base. It also seemed to gain further relevance Monday when the Browns named Watson their starting quarterback for their season opener. Because while Watson (accurately or not) believed fans' boos had "nothing to do with the performance," Cleveland's decision to name Watson its Week 1 starter has plenty to do with it. If the Browns' decision was about fan popularity or podium performance or medium- to long-term upside, 2025 fifth-round pick Shedeur Sanders would have received the nod Monday.

The Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF has been a compounding machine. The share price has risen at an average annual rate of around 10% since inception. Add in the high-yielding dividend (SCHD currently yields 3.1%), and the annualized total return is 13.4%. That's a fantastic return for a lower-risk, dividend-focused investment. A big driver of those returns is the rapidly rising dividend.
If the ETF's price continues to grow by more than 10% annually, it would approach $90 a share by the end of 2035. That's a more than 150% increase. Meanwhile, if the dividend continues to grow at its recent historical pace of more than 11%, it would rise from the current annualized rate of $1.05 per share to over $2.90 per share by the end of 2035. That's more than an 8% yield at the current cost.

Los Angeles Dodgers starter Blake Snell logged another quality start Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but he isn't satisfied just yet.
Snell came back from a procedure on his elbow Aug. 11, and has been fantastic in all three of his starts since returning. In his first appearance off of the injured list, Snell allowed just one earned run through six innings while striking out 10 batters.
He only allowed one run in his subsequent outing, striking out five batters through six innings on his way to his first win of the season. The southpaw made his third appearance of the month on Sunday, shutting out the Pirates through six innings with six strikeouts.
Despite his dominant three-game run, though, Snell still expects better from himself.
"There were a couple innings there where you get two quick outs and then a full-count walk," Snell said. "It's not acceptable. Especially with [how] I feel good, know I can command the ball. Honestly, it's lazy. It's me trying to get strikeouts instead of trying to go seven, eight, nine. So I definitely got to clean that up."

Anyway, after years of experience, here's how I attack building a roster that allows us to start a couple of passers each week.

Ceiling: If things fall in their favor, how big can they hit in 2026?
Risk: A subjective ranking based on injuries, surrounding injuries, coaching changes, how proven a player is, age, and other factors that bring on uncertainty
Over the last four seasons, when Burrow has been healthy, he's been a top-four fantasy QB. Being healthy has been more of a challenge for the Bengals QB, however. Last season showed both. He dealt with injury from Week 2 to 12 before ripping off five QB1 games in his last six weeks. Cincinnati is a pass-first team, and has shown to be no matter how good or bad its defense has been. Burrow still averaged 38 passing attempts with a top-10 defense in 2022 and since 2021, averages 0.1 fewer PPG when his team holds the opponent under 25 points, compared to when they allow over 25. Volume and skill shouldn't be a problem; it's more about health and how cautious he is on the ground coming off another lower-body injury.

Over the past two seasons, Marvin Harrison Jr. has been a name that plenty of NFL fans have paid attention to. Naturally so, as the Arizona Cardinals selected him fourth overall in 2024. It is now the dawn of the 2026 season, and Harrison Jr. still hasn't proven why he was picked that high. He's dealt with injuries, which makes it tough to gain traction. Not only that, but he's also had multiple quarterbacks.
Harrison Jr. has shown flashes, but he has struggled to stay consistent. A player with that talent, though, is destined to break out at some point. Over training camp, he has looked fantastic, no matter who is throwing to him. He's finally starting to develop the confidence that he's been missing over the first couple of seasons of his career.

Yahoo Fantasy Football is offering something I've never seen before: the option to include a Team Offense position in your league. We can now draft an offense, just how we do with defense/special teams spots in fantasy football. Except, we're rooting for scoring and yards, rather than sacks and turnovers. Again, this position is completely optional, but I don't see a reason to include a fantasy defense spot and not include a fantasy offense spot. It's good fun, and I'm here to provide some **** ysis on the scoring settings:

At a key time in the fantasy baseball calendar, we are unfortunately saddled with possibly the worst two-start pitcher group of the season. In fact, once we get past the top option, every other hurler may be best left for those in deep formats. On the hitting side, managers should load up on Rockies for the first half of the week.
Zac Thornton, Mets, 20% (vs. MIL, vs. HOU): Thornton continues to establish himself as a reliable major league rotation member and now sits at 3-4 with a 3.04 ERA and 1.13 WHIP after nine starts. The rookie struck out seven Padres in his most recent outing, which is a great sign from someone whose only weakness thus far has been an inability to accumulate whiffs. He unfortunately has a pair of matchups against top-10 teams in OPS versus righties, but at least both starts will take place at his pitcher-friendly home park.
Andrew Alvarez, Nationals, 7% (vs. COL, vs. MIA): Although Alvarez has enjoyed his best stretch of the season during August (2.42 ERA, 0.90 WHIP), the advanced stats (16:8 K:BB ratio, .169 BABIP) don't back up his success. In fact, the left-hander's strikeout rate this month (6.5 K/9) is notably lower than his season-long mark (8.3). Alvarez deserves credit for consistency, as he has allowed more than three earned runs in just one of his 19 appearances. However, most of his outings last less than five innings. He has reasonable matchups and the two-start options are poor this week, which makes him worth consideration as a low-floor, low-ceiling option in deeper formats.
Max Scherzer, Blue Jays, 6% (vs. KC, vs. SEA): After enjoying three consecutive strong starts, Scherzer faltered (4 IP, 7 ER) last time out. The outing wasn't quite as bad as the stat line indicates, as a pair of misplayed fly ***** by Jesús Sánchez ruined the right-hander's chances. Scherzer wouldn't normally rank as a viable two-start option, but he has had enough success of late to warrant consideration for two home starts against teams that rank 22nd (Royals) and 30th (Mariners) in runs scored.
Seth Lugo, Royals, 24% (@ TOR, @ CLE): Lugo opened the second half by posting a 2.37 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over three starts, but his 10:6 K:BB ratio in those outings showed that he hadn't truly turned around a poor season. Sure enough, the 36-year-old came crashing back to earth with a 7.48 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in his past four outings. Lugo has favorable matchups this week, as the Blue Jays (28th) and Guardians (26th) sit near the bottom of baseball in runs scored. That's the only reason to select him over those who trail him on this list.

Liverpool want Yankuba Minteh from Brighton. He's not the one they should be chasing, however.
Liverpool will reportedly hold transfer talks with Brighton tonight as they try to sign Yankuba Minteh. The Reds have already seen two offers rejected for the winger but believe there's a real chance they get over the line with a third.
Now, Minteh is a talent and could become a great player. But people paying attention will notice that the currently-injured star wasn't exactly missed by the Seagulls on Sunday as they smashed Aston Villa 4-0.
Instead, they played Diego Gomez from the right, as they often did last season. The Paragauayan was fantastic and so here's a prediction: Gomez gets a big-money move in 2027.
Unless Liverpool can sign him first.

The TJX Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TJX) and Ross Stores, Inc. (NASDAQ:ROST)'s shares have diverged in performance in 2026. Year-to-date, the former is down by 8.9% and the latter is up 30%. Cramer, on August 17th, discussed the divergence in the share price. He lamented the fact that The TJX Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TJX) was suffering despite performing well and discussed the firm's CEO in relation to the share price movement. On the flipside, the CNBC TV host attributed Ross Stores, Inc. (NASDAQ:ROST)'s price performance to its CEO:
"Walmart and TJX, which are the acknowledged two best, have been the worst. And it's really rather interesting to see the best trade, not really as well, like Ross Stores has a fantastic CEO, I don't know if anyone remembers him from when he was at Boot Barn, Jim Conroy. But holy cow, is he good. And he has moved that stock up. . .Jim Conroy's come in there and he's just crushed it. In the meantime, TJX, which is doing so well as a company, people don't like. So there's a lot of front seat, back seat, Lowe's better than Home Depot, Target better than Walmart, Ross better than TJX. Almost a change in the guard except for the fact that the guard isn't as good."
On the 19th, The TJX Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TJX)'s shares closed 4.2% lower after the firm reported its fiscal Q2 earnings in the morning. As is the case with other retailers, the firm's narrative also surrounds the question of whether the current consumer weakness will affect its operations. During its fiscal Q2, The TJX Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TJX)'s comparable same-store sales grew by 4% and the firm also hiked its full year profit margin guidance to 11.2% and EPS to $4.09 to $4.13.
However, while the full year margin guidance was hiked, The TJX Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TJX)'s Q3 margin guide of 11.8% to 11.9%, which was rather tight and generated speculation about the possibility of heightened global shipping tightness and higher domestic wages affecting the firm's stock. Additionally, the year-to-date price gains have also led to a forward P/E multiple of 27 which is at the high end of the historic range to leave little room for error. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin, also known as "Scary Terry," could be a scary addition to your fantasy lineup this season. He has put up elite numbers over the course of his career, especially in 2024 when he had over 1,000 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. While McLaurin missed seven games last season, ESPN fantasy ****** yst Eric Moody believes he is a great fantasy option this season. Here is what Moody had to say about McLaurin:
"McLaurin is one of my favorite values at wide receiver. In 2024, he scored 13 touchdowns, finished as the WR7 and topped 1,000 yards for the fifth straight season. Last season was basically lost, with McLaurin missing seven games and QB Jayden Daniels missing 10. New OC David Blough has talked about getting McLaurin 10 targets per game, a significant jump from the 7.3 he has averaged over his career, while also moving him around the formation. New signing Stefon Diggs adds competition, but I'm getting a receiver who has already shown WR1 upside at a back-end WR2 price. That's a discount I'm willing to bet on."
Diggs may provide some competition, but he could actually help McLaurin's fantasy stock in a way. Without Diggs, McLaurin was the clear No. 1 receiver on Washington's roster, making him more likely to get double-teamed and have fewer fantasy points. With another elite wide receiver for defenses to worry about, this should lead to more opportunities for McLaurin.
As Moody notes, McLaurin has a current average draft position (ADP) of No. 23 wide receiver. Therefore, you do not have to spend a first or second round pick on him even though he has the potential of a WR1, allowing you to build up other positions on your roster.
The biggest concern with McLaurin is Daniels' health. Some may be worried about McLaurin's health given he missed seven games last season, but he is not injury-prone. In fact, last season was the first time McLaurin missed any time since 2020. Daniels, on the other hand, missed 10 games with three different injuries last season. If he goes down, McLaurin's fantasy production could suffer. But if Daniels is able to remain healthy as he did in 2024, McLaurin could have a monster fantasy season.

The Buffalo Bills used multiple kickers last season thanks to a variety of injuries at the position. For the majority of the season, it was veteran Matt Prater handling the duties, and the 41-year old was fantastic. He hit on 90% of his tries during the regular season, nailing 18-of-20 field goals over the course of 15 games. He did miss time thanks to a quad injury, but he returned in time for the postseason. Prater made all five of his field goal tries and all six of his extra points.
Michael Badgley also kicked in two games for the Bills, and while he made his only field goal try, it was his PAT misses that led to his dismissal. Even running back Ray Davis had a go, as he made an extra ppoint during the preseason and attempted an onside kick during the regular season.
It's unlikely that any of the aforementioned players will attempt a kick for Buffalo this season, as the man whom the team expected to handle the kicking last year is now back and available. If you are in the process of deciding who you want on your fantasy roster this season, Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jakobi Meyers is someone who should be on your radar, according to ESPN fantasy ***** yst Eric Moody.
Here is what Moody had to say about Meyers:
"Meyers is one of the better late-round values at wide receiver. He has topped 800 receiving yards in five straight seasons -- including his first 1,000-yard campaign in 2024 -- and finished no worse than WR32 during that span. After arriving in Jacksonville midseason, Meyers drew 61 targets in nine games while quickly earning quarterback Trevor Lawrence's trust with his route running, feel for coverage and reliable hands. Now he gets a full offseason with Lawrence. Meyers, Brian Thomas Jr. and Parker Washington are all projected for 100-plus targets, yet Meyers is going a round later than the others. I'd rather wait and take the discount."
First, chances are that Thomas, Washington and Meyers won't have at least 100 targets each this season; none of them had 100 targets last season with the Jaguars. However, it was clear watching Meyers last season that he and Lawrence had chemistry right away.
Meyers led all the receivers with Jacksonville in receptions per game with 4.7 and his midseason addition altered the trajectory of the Jaguars' offense.

Aston Villa's search for attacking reinforcement appears to be gathering pace, with Jean-Philippe Mateta emerging as a name of genuine interest as the summer window moves into a decisive phase. Credit to Tom Collomosse of the Daily Mail, who has reported that Villa have made an enquiry for the Crystal Palace striker, though there has been no formal offer at this stage.
The timing is significant. Villa's need for clarity in the centre-forward position has become more pressing amid continuing uncertainty around Ollie Watkins. Saudi Arabian interest has created an obvious layer of doubt, and Unai Emery has been notably open in discussing the situation. As he put it, "We have an issue with him, it's clear. He is our player. We have had offers for him. I don't want to sell him but it can change because if it's a good option for him and the club and I can replace him in the squad, this is the routine we have and we did before with the players who are leaving.
"With Ollie, he is here, for me he is a fantastic striker, we have always believed in him. Now he is our player, there are 10 days more or less to finish the transfer window, we will see what happens, I'm happy with him, if he is staying with us he will continue playing his level. If he leaving it's because it is good for three ways, one is him, another is the club and another is the team."

Mateta fits the description of a striker who could offer Premier League-ready output without needing a long adaptation period. Last season, he made 32 league appearances and scored 12 goals, while also posting strong numbers in the air and providing a consistent physical reference point. He can occupy centre-backs, compete directly, and still threaten ****** e beyond the line, a combination Villa would value if they are reshaping the balance of Emery's front line.

Lucy Davis, the actress, has said she is grateful for the support she has received since revealing she has incurable breast cancer.
The 53-year-old star of The Office appeared at the For The Love of Fantasy and Sci-Fi convention at Excel London on Saturday to talk about Shaun of the Dead, the 2004 zombie comedy in which she played Dianne.
It was her first public appearance since announcing on Aug 11 that she had incurable stage-four cancer that had metastasised to her bones since a diagnosis a year and a half ago.
Speaking on a panel with Edgar Wright, the film's director, and Simon Pegg, its main character, Davis thanked an audience of hundreds for their support.
Saying she had been signing autographs and posing for photographs at the convention, she added: "It's like this whole second family you never knew you had, everyone is like a community, friendly, supportive of not only us but you guys and each other.

The Toronto Raptors head coach recently sat down for an interview in his native Serbia, during which he likened the franchise star to one of the all-time greats.
