During the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, Michael Strahan was a defensive end for the New York Giants
The athlete-turned-broadcast host is a narrator of 9/11: United We Stand — 25 Years Later, a documentary that looks back on the tragedy and two and a half decades of healing
Strahan forged a close friendship with Pete Davidson, whose father died in the line of duty while helping evacuate people from the Twin Towers
When two planes flew into New York City's Twin Towers on Sept. 11, 2001, Michael Strahan was at his home in Montclair, N.J., having gotten in late the night before from Denver after a Monday Night Football game. He was trying to catch some sleep that morning when he got a call telling him to look out of his window, where he had an enviable view of the New York City skyline.
That day, he tells PEOPLE, "the skyline changed forever."
