Detroit Tigers fans who paid good money to be at Comerica Park on Monday night has reason to be upset. Their hometown team allowed the visiting Baltimore Orioles to score a bunch of early runs, which eventually sealed a third consecutive defeat for A.J. Hinch's team. Time is slipping away for the Tigers to make a run at the American League Central crown or, failing that, an American League wild card spot. And oh yeah, the latest stumbles might be just enough to convince the front office to send Tarik Skubal out of town at the trade deadline.
But all those frowns turned upside-down thanks to one uninvited guest who caused all types of chaos on the playing surface.
As hope began dwindling for the Tigers in the seventh inning, a squirrel made its way onto the diamond. It did not possess any type of healthy fear and therefore got really close to players and explored **** es that could have put it right in the center of the action. Orioles third base coach Buck Britton certainly did not help when he decided to feed the uninvited guest.
Eventually, everyone had enough of the squirrel and the decision was made to remove it from the premises.

Comerica Park has always been a special place for Grant Wolfram.
As a kid, the Holland native and Hamilton High School graduate, grew up watching the Tigers.
It took a big step last year when Wolfram made his major league debut at Comerica Park, pitching for the Baltimore Orioles.

A squirrel caused quite a bit of chaos on Monday at Comerica Park.
A black squirrel managed to break onto the field during the Detroit Tigers' 8-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles, and it led the grounds crew on a chase in the outfield. Orioles outfielder Leody Taveras even had to get in on the action, though he couldn't quite catch the elusive animal with his glove.
Perhaps the best part of the loose squirrel was Jason Benetti's call of the scene from the booth.
"No, I won't be hemmed in! I have freedom on my mind!" Benetti yelled.
Eventually, the crew managed to track the squirrel down and got it out of the stadium so the game could continue.

The Royals (43-61) and the Tigers (49-54) continue their four-game AL Central series tonight at Comerica Park in Detroit.
Detroit rallied late last night to earn a 4-3 victory over Kansas City in the series opener. It was Detroit’s fourteenth win in their last nineteen games. The Royals carried a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning thanks to a two-run homer from Isaac Collins and five scoreless innings from Randy Dobnak. However, the Tigers answered when James Outman blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to put Detroit ahead. After Kansas City tied the game 3-3 in the eighth on Josh Rojas' RBI single, Dillon Dingler delivered the game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the inning. Drew Anderson earned the win and Kyle Finnegan recorded the save. With the win, the Tigers pulled to within six games of first in the AL Central.
Tonight is a bullpen game for the Royals. Beck Way (1-0, 3.22 ERA) gets the start but probably will go no more than two innings. That said, the 26-year-old right-hander has made a strong impression in limited major-league action, striking out 21 batters over 22.1 innings. He has allowed two earned runs over 7.1 innings this month. Beck’s opponent on the mound for the Tigers is arguably the best pitcher in baseball, Tarik Skubal (6-5, 2.83 ERA). The Cy Young winner has 98 strikeouts in 82.2 innings. In his last start, July 18 against the Angels, Skubal was dominant allowing just five hits over seven scoreless innings. Skubal has allowed just four earned runs across his last four starts while recording 32 strikeouts in 23 innings.
The Royals continue to be without the left side of their infield with Bobby Witt Jr. (back) and Maikel Garcia (hand) sidelined with injuries.

The MLB trade deadline is less than two weeks away. As teams look to fortify their rosters for the stretch run, fantasy managers can help their squads by scouring the waiver wire for reinforcements. Let’s highlight five players to consider adding who are still available in the majority of Yahoo leagues.
Torres has been limited to 46 games this season because of injury. He recently missed over a month with an oblique ailment. Across three games since making his return, he is 3-for-11 with two walks and a run scored. He continues to show a good eye at the plate, recording a 15.3% walk rate and a 19.2% strikeout rate for the season. That has enabled him to record a .351 wOBA. The Tigers will play six games next, including three at the Athletics’ hitter-friendly park. Don’t hesitate to add Torres if you need help at second base.
Sasaki is coming off a good start against the Yankees in which he gave up one unearned run over 5 2/3 innings. The most encouraging stat from that outing was that he didn’t give up a home run for the first time since the middle of May. In Week 19, he is lined up to make a start at home against the Mariners. He has been good there, recording a 3.69 xFIP, 1.29 WHIP and 26.4% strikeout rate in Los Angeles. Consider him one of the better streaming options to target.
Ewing is swinging a hot bat, hitting 17-for-53 (.321) with two home runs and four doubles across his last 12 games. He even stole three bases during that span, giving him a total of 11 steals over 63 games. After showing an adept skill of getting on base throughout his time in the minors, he is batting .274 with a .345 OBP with the Mets. New York is slated to play seven games next week, so Ewing will have plenty of opportunities to provide fantasy value.

DETROIT (AP) — Tarik Skubal said his preference is to finish the season with the Detroit Tigers and compete for a championship, though knows his next start could be his last with the team.
"I think we have a chance to win World Series," Skubal said Thursday. "I've said that since spring training. That's never changed. That belief in this team has never changed throughout the season. Obviously we put ourselves in a tough situation, but I think we've come out of that situation playing really good baseball.
"Going into spring training and the whole offseason, I've never been more motivated to try and win a World Series for this city, the team that drafted me and helped develop me. That's always been the goal, and that will never change unless I'm told I'm on a different team."
The Tigers have until Aug. 3 to decide whether to keep Skubal, who can become a free agent after the World Series, or to deal the two-time Cy Young Award winner in a blockbuster trade to perhaps bolster their future with players and prospects.
Skubal (6-5. 2.83 ERA) is scheduled to pitch against the Kansas City Royals on Friday night at Comerica Park and acknowledged it might be his last start for the Tigers.

Casey Mize didn’t have his best outing, and the opposing pitcher was a tough test in this one. Cristopher Sanchez won that contest, and while the Tigers actually swung the bats reasonably well, they fumbled a few opportunities and the Phillies won 4-2 to even the series at a game apiece.
This was going to be a tough matchup no matter what as Casey Mize squared off against ace lefty Cristopher Sanchez. The Tigers did have some good news pre-game as Dillon Dingler was cleared to DH in this one. Eduardo Valencia was set to make his debut behind the plate as well.
Things started off auspiciously as Mize walked leadoff man Trea Turner, popped up Kyle Schwarber, and then allowed a double down the right field line from Bryce Harper. Mize dug in and got Brandon Marsh to ground out, and Alec Bohm popped out to Hao-Yu Lee at second. When Mize struggles through the first but escapes, typically things go well the rest of the way.

Detroit — Tarik Skubal has been a headliner at the All-Star Game the last two years. But if you think he’s looking forward to a few days away from that particular spotlight this year, you are incorrect.
“I would rather be there,” he said before the game Saturday. “I don’t think you take any All-Star Game for granted. Just being in that room with that type of talent and being around those types of guys — yeah, they are extremely talented but they also have some sort of edge that you can take away from them.
“I’d much rather be there, for sure.”
Missing five weeks after having a loose body removed from his elbow is the only reason he wasn’t selected for a third time. Instead, after he pitches in the finale against the Phillies Sunday, he’s going to stick around and maintain his routine at Comerica Park.
He's likely to start the first game back after the break in Anaheim.

Detroit – Most of the drama for the first five innings Friday night was atmospheric.
Rain clouds gradually creeped through the area in the fourth and fifth innings, scattering the fans but not stopping play.
But in the bottom of the sixth, it was the Tigers' offense -- sparked again by rookie Eduardo Valencia – that provided all the entertainment the festive crowd of 34,084 at Comerica Park could want.
The Tigers broke a 2-2 tie with a five-run ****** ault and went on to enjoy a 10-2 romp over the Philadelphia Phillies Friday night.
That's six straight wins for the Tigers (44-50), nine of 10 and they have the best record in baseball since June 1 (22-12).

The Detroit Tigers may have avoided a worst-case scenario with All-Star catcher Dillon Dingler.
Dingler exited Wednesday night's game against the Oakland Athletics after taking a 95 mph sinker off his right throwing hand in the top of the second inning. The frightening moment immediately brought concern inside Comerica Park, especially considering the breakout season the 27-year-old has been putting together.
After being struck by the foul tip, Dingler remained behind home plate while manager A.J. Hinch and the Tigers' training staff examined his hand. He attempted several warmup throws and finished the defensive half inning before Detroit elected to remove him from the game prior to his next plate appearance.
Television cameras later showed a noticeable imprint of the baseball's seams on the top of Dingler's hand near his thumb.
Following the game, Hinch delivered what appears to be encouraging news.

The Tigers' backup catcher had to spring to action in the bottom of the second inning after All-Star Dillon Dingler exited with an apparent right-hand injury.
Rogers quickly turned on a 91 mph fastball from Athletics starters Jeffrey Springs for a two-run home run, his second of the season.
The Tigers added three more insurance runs on a three-run blast from first baseman Spencer Torkelson in the fifth inning. The two long ***** were more than enough run support in a strong start from right-hander Troy Melton for a 6-1 win for the Tigers over the Athletics at Comerica Park.
Melton gave up one unearned run with nine strikeouts and one walk issued across 5⅓ innings. He is 5-1 and lowered his season ERA to 1.82.

Perhaps they should rename Comerica Park to Rogers Center after Jake Rogers' pinch performance helped the Tigers beat the A's 6-1.
The Tigers have been pretty good lately, 7-3 for their last 10 games, and as we know, performing well against teams with much better records than theirs. So naturally, against another fourth-place team, they're going to potentially struggle. However, they did take the first game of the series against the A's, so how this series will play out is anyone's guess. The Tigers had Troy Melton on the mound up against Jeffrey Springs for the A's.
The A's went 1-2-3 in the top of the first. The home half took considerably longer to work through. With one out, Dillon Dingler singled and was able to advance to second on a throwing error by the A's third baseman. Kevin McGonigle walked, then Spencer Torkelson walked. Springs was having a heck of a time finding the zone, and that didn't change when Riley Greene came up to bat, and both Greene and the catcher challenged pitches, both of them ****** , before Greene singled to score Dingler and put the Tigers on the board first. Two outs followed, but they had certainly worn Springs down early.
After the first out of the second inning, there was a pause in play. A foul tip hit Dingler in his exposed hand, and while he stayed in through the top of the inning, he did ultimately leave the game. No current status updates. The Athletics took on the Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit today, hoping to end a three-game skid. J.T. Ginn got the start today against reigning Cy Young Award winner Tarek Skubal for Detroit.
After a walk to lead-off batter Kevin McGonigle, Colt Keith homered to deep right center field giving the Tigers an early 2-0 lead.
After Skubal struck out five of the first eight batters he faced, Henry Bolte launched his third homer of the season into left field bleachers. That cut the Tigers lead to 2-1.
Through four innings, both pitchers have allowed base runners, but since each gave up a homer, they’ve battled through, keeping the opposing team from scoring. Skubal left the game after five innings. He gave up just one earned run on five hits and two walks. He struck out nine.
Jacob Lopez replaced J.T. Ginn in the bottom of the sixth. Lopez was recalled today from AAA Las Vegas. Zach McKinstry walked and Spencer Torkelson singled. Pinch hitter Ben Malgeri doubled on a misplayed fly ball to right fielder Lawrence Butler. McKinstry scored. Matt Vierling doubled to right field, driving in Torkelson and Malgeri. Detroit – It doesn’t have to be a big swing that changes a game. The Tigers, when they are playing at their best, prove this time after time.
And they did so again Tuesday night in a spirited, 6-2 win over the Athletics in the first of three at Comerica Park. Sometimes a simple walk can turn the tide.
It was a tight, 2-1 game when lefty-swinging Zach McKinstry stepped in with two outs and ***** ody on against lefty reliever Jacob Lopez in the sixth inning.
McKinstry battled his way to a walk, which set up a run of three straight right-handed hitters who broke the game open.

The Houston offense got untracked early and surged late to lead the Astros over the Detroit Tigers (35-48) 8-6 this afternoon at Comerica Park.
Facing former Astro Framber Valdez, Houston got on the board first in the top of the second on a 2-run homer by Cam Smith. It was Smith’s 9th HR of the season, matching his total from all of 2025.
They would tack on another in the top of the 3rd when Jeremy Pena (3×5, 2R, 2RBI) scored on a Jose Altuve double-play groundout. The Tigers conceded the run in exchange for the two outs. It was 3-0 Astros.

Detroit Tigers fans were treated to a pitcher's duel, but probably not the kind they wanted to see.
Wasting a quality start from righty Troy Melton, the Tigers (34-47) kicked off a four-game series with a 2-1 loss to the Houston Astros on Thursday, June 25, at Comerica Park in Detroit. Astros starter Tatsuya Imai struck out 10 batters through six shutout innings, taking advantage of a punchless Tigers lineup as Melton was throwing a gem of his own.
Melton pitched the first five innings without having allowed an Astros batter to reach base, but center fielder Taylor Trammell broke up the perfect game (and the no-hitter, and the shutout) with a one-out solo home run off Melton in the sixth.
The Astros scrapped home a run in the top of the ninth for a 2-0 edge that proved key.
Designated hitter Dillon Dingler blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to bring the Tigers within 2-1, and left fielder Riley Green followed with a line drive single on the next pitch. But third baseman Colt Keith grounded into a 3-6 double play to end the game for a third straight loss.
Wasting a quality start from righty Troy Melton, the Tigers (34-47) kicked off a four-game series with a 2-1 loss to the Houston Astros on Thursday, June 25, at Comerica Park in Detroit. Astros starter Tatsuya Imai struck out 10 batters through six shutout innings, taking advantage of a punchless Tigers lineup as Melton was throwing a gem of his own.
Melton pitched the first five innings without having allowed an Astros batter to reach base, but center fielder Taylor Trammell broke up the perfect game (and the no-hitter, and the shutout) with a one-out solo home run off Melton in the sixth.
The Astros scrapped home a run in the top of the ninth for a 2-0 edge that proved key.
Designated hitter Dillon Dingler blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to bring the Tigers within 2-1, and left fielder Riley Green followed with a line drive single on the next pitch. But third baseman Colt Keith grounded into a 3-6 double play to end the game for a third straight loss.
