Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HE) has a potential valuation benchmark for its retained American Savings Bank investment. IPO terms reported September 9 imply approximately $1 billion of equity value at the midpoint. The proposed offering comprises approximately 7.5 million shares at $15 to $17 each.
Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HE) sold 90.1% of the bank in December 2024 and retained 9.9%. Mechanically, a 9.9% holding at a $1 billion valuation would be worth approximately $99 million, ****** uming that ownership percentage remains unchanged.
The base offering would total approximately $120 million at the $16 midpoint before fees. That amount represents shares being sold across the offering, not proceeds automatically attributable to the retained investment.
A public listing could make the minority ****** et easier to value. For Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HE), an observable trading price would give investors a clearer reference for estimating the holding's contribution to overall equity value.
The proposed transaction is entirely secondary, according to the detailed offering report. Existing shareholders are selling shares, so the offering itself does not dilute ownership through newly issued stock. Any change in the retained stake would depend on shareholder sales or other capital changes.

There's one obvious piece of advice for the Hawaii women's volleyball team three games into Joshua Walker's tenure as head coach.
Be ready.
All but one player saw the court during the season-opening Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic last week in which Hawaii went 1-2 to open the Walker era.
Nine of the 15 players on the roster played in at least 10 of the opening 12 sets in which UH defeated Georgia Southern and took then-No. 21 Baylor to five before getting swept by San Diego on Sunday.
Senior Tali Hakas was one of six players to play in all 12 sets. She did not start in Sunday's loss to the Toreros but was summoned off the bench quickly when the Rainbow Wahine got off to a poor start.

Max Holloway may lose a portion of his fight purse following his UFC 329 victory over Conor McGregor — and he's not alone. Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) will decide on Wednesday if the former featherweight and BMF champ, along with lightweight contender Paddy Pimblett and heavyweight newcomer Gable Steveson, will incur disciplinary fines for cage hopping during the July 11 fight card in Las Vegas.
Pimblett defeated Benoit Saint Denis, not long after Steveson steamrolled Elisha Ellison.
"For the record, this rule needs to be changed," Pimblett's manager, Graham Boylan told MMA Junkie. "Yes, it's the fight game, and systems need to be in play to make it all work, but this rule does nothing to support that. It's 2026. Apply a little common sense."
Diego Lopes was dinged $5,000 for a similar infraction at UFC 300.
NSAC has been cracking down on airborne fighters ever since Khabib Nurmagomedov's ****** bombed Dillon Danis at UFC 229 back in late 2018, a fight that also involved McGregor. Speaking of the "Notorious" ex-champion, he's currently sidelined after knee surgery to repair damage suffered in his loss to Holloway — just don't expect much sympathy from the "Blessed" Hawaiian.

On August 7, Hawaiian Electric (NYSE:HE) reported second-quarter net income of $123.2 million, or $0.71 per share, numbers that look strong at first glance. Much of that gain traces back to a non-cash Maui wildfire settlement adjustment, not the underlying business, and core net income actually dropped once it's stripped out. The quarter tells the story of a utility making real regulatory progress on wildfire recovery and grid investment while its day-to-day operating costs keep climbing.
Hawaiian Electric has cleared several regulatory hurdles this year. In June, the Public Utilities Commission approved recovery of roughly $350 million in Wildfire Mitigation Plan spending, and the company now plans to finance that spending through securitization under Act 258 rather than the more limited Exceptional Project Recovery Mechanism, a move it says lowers the cost to customers.
The commission also accepted the company's rate rebasing methodology in June, and Hawaiian Electric resubmitted its request last month seeking a total base rate increase of $170 million phased in over two years, with $125 million taking effect in 2027 if the commission issues an interim decision by December 18. On the generation side, the company submitted a request for proposals on July 17 ahead of the August 7 issuance date, seeking nearly 1,650 gigawatt-hours of renewable energy, one of the largest competitive procurements in state history. Credit agencies have taken notice, with S&P upgrading Hawaiian Electric one notch in July, following Moody's upgrade in April.
The cost side of the ledger tells a rougher story. Core net income and earnings per share fell to $22.5 million and $0.13 in the quarter, down from $35.4 million and $0.20 a year earlier, and utility core net income slipped to $32.6 million from $42.5 million. Higher interest expense from last September's high-yield debt issuance is part of the drag, along with increased spending on vegetation management, generation overhauls, and inspection and maintenance. The company also lost a deferral it used last year for roughly $28 million in wildfire-related expenses, including insurance premiums, and it is now absorbing storm response costs from the severe flooding that hit Hawaii in February and March.
Management expects to hit the maximum penalty under its Fuel Cost Risk Sharing Mechanism this year and to book a loss under its performance incentive mechanisms. Regulators are also pushing back in places. On August 5, the commission told Hawaiian Electric it needs to demonstrate a clear need before it can proceed with a proposed request for up to 500 megawatts of additional firm generation capacity on Oahu.

Detroit — Red Hawaiian shirts took over Comerica Park on Sunday with over 900 people traveling across the world for the 17th annual "Magnum P.I." Day.
Known as the "Magnums," the group partnered with the Brain Injury **** ociation of Michigan in 2025, and a portion of Tigers game tickets bought through their group link are donated to help the **** ociation.
"I get emotional talking about it," said Aaron Klassen, the primary organizer for the event. "Who knew what started as just a bunch of hooligans having fun would turn into something of this caliber to be able to make such an incredible impact and give back to the community."
Founded by Shana Smail, Shaun Smail and Kevin Stephenson in 2009, the first event was minuscule compared to now, with only about 12 people in attendance and any color Hawaiian shirt worn. The group is inspired by the 1980s show "Magnum P.I.," and fans are dressed like Detroit native Tom Selleck, who stars in the show as Thomas Magnum.
Nowadays, they have thousands of members in a Facebook group and had fans, workers, and even PAWS, the Tigers' mascot, dressed in the signature Magnum look: an Aloha "Jungle Bird" shirt, sunglasses, real or fake mustaches, and a Tigers hat to top off the outfit.

As Hurricane Lala drenched parts of the Hawaiian Islands, the calm remained at sunny Father Bray Athletic Complex.
By 1:30 p.m., Edison kicked off to host 'Iolani, and the Chargers from Huntington Beach, Calif., put a jolt into the Raiders with a 41-27 win at Eddie Hamada Field. Sam Thomson threw three touchdown passes, while running backs Brett Dempsen and Gavyn Degiacomo combined for 183 yards and three TDs on 21 carries.
It was a 27-0 lead before the home team began to find its footing. Edison played a mix of reserves and starters from beginning to end. 'Iolani coach Patrick Samsonas found solace in his team's in-game resilience.
"I feel wet. It's a wet game," he said of the gusty, rainy conditions by game's end. We battled in the second and that was the test. They answered some of the calls. That's a really good team in the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation). I'm proud of our guys for battling. We've got a bye week before we get another mainland team."
'Iolani (1-1) hosts Westview (San Diego) on Aug. 29.

The PGA Tour isn't leaving Torrey Pines any time soon.
As expected, the La Jolla, California, stop will remain on the calendar, though under a different – albeit familiar – name beginning in 2027. The Sentry, which transitions from its former home at Kapalua, will be contested Jan. 27-30, 2027, a week after the season-opening American Express, and then become part of the Championship Series in 2028.
The PGA Tour has already announced two other Championship-level tournaments: the longstanding Travelers Championship and a new event sponsored by Sompo, which will be played in Napa, California, next summer before relocating to another market.
A complete 2028 Championship Series schedule is expected to be released in late January and include 23 to 24 events, including the majors, Players Championship, reimagined playoffs and Cup events.
This season's Sentry at Kapalua was canceled due to ongoing drought conditions, though the PGA Tour has since scrapped its Hawaiian Swing while repurposing the Sony Open as a PGA Tour Champions event.

Max Holloway is currently receiving all the attention after his fight with Conor McGregorended disappointingly at UFC 329, after the Irishman injured his knee in the first round. Amidst that, his personal life recently came into the spotlight after the Hawaiian star's wife, Alessa Quizon, opened up about how they first met.
Last year, Holloway and Quizon appeared on the Brotherlee Time podcast, where they shared the story of their relationship. That clip now resurfaced and went viral on social media for all the wrong reasons, prompting Holloway to clarify that her comments had been taken out of context.
"Here's the context: 1. She was engaged while leaving me on read for 5 years," Holloway wrote on X."Lol. So if anything, I'm an ******* that kept reaching out. I lived by a code, though if you have a bf and he can't defend your honor, you have a girlfriend hahaha. 2. She was a professional surfer and actually really good at it. She has her own money. Get the full story before just watching clickbait and edited parts."
During a conversation a year ago, Holloway's wife revealed that Holloway had romantically pursued her for five years. After that, she revealed being interested in him after realizing Holloway was a "big deal" in the MMA world and seeing fans ask to take photos with him. However, Quizon finally clarified what really won her over.
""I respected Maxwell. I knew he was a great athlete from what I'd heard. Again, I never watched nothing," she said. "I didn't see that. I saw he was a really nice guy and again, very persistent. He wasn't creepy or anything. But I was like, 'Man, he doesn't (give up).'"

They also want to see that travel demand stays strong before the airline stocks move higher.

An apparent knee injury snuffed out whatever magic Conor McGregor planned to rekindle in his first Ultimate Fighting Championship ****** ignment in five years.
Max Holloway was awarded an anticlimactic technical knockout over the SBG Ireland cornerstone in the first round of their UFC 329 headliner on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. A disappointed and dejected McGregor (22-7, 10-5 UFC)—who had beaten the Hawaiian by unanimous decision in their first meeting in 2013—bowed out 1:09 into Round 1.
It was essentially over before it began. McGregor appeared to suffer the injury while throwing a jumping round kick inside the first 10 seconds. He collapsed on multiple occasions afterward, unable to put any weight on his right leg while he attempted to engage Holloway (28-9, 24-9 UFC). It soon became clear to all involved that McGregor was compromised to such an extent that he could not move forward with the match.
Meanwhile, former Cage Warriors champion Paddy Pimblett put Benoit St. Denis to sleep with a Peruvian necktie in the first round of their lightweight co-main event. St. Denis (17-4, 9-4 UFC) lost consciousness 52 seconds into Round 1.
Pimblett (24-4, 8-1 UFC) survived the initial burst of offense from the Frenchman and made him pay for an ill-conceived takedown attempt. The Next Generation MMA star zeroed in on St. Denis’ exposed neck, bullied him to the canvas and proceeded to tighten the strings on the necktie. Pimblett then moved to a seated position—with one leg over the back, the other over the head—and maximized torque until the onetime French Special Forces operator lost his grip on reality.
It was the second sub-minute finish for Pimblett in 28 professional appearances.
Further down the main draw, Mario Bautista avenged a January 2019 submission defeat to Cory Sandhagen and laid claim to a unanimous decision over the Elevation Fight Team rep in their three-round bantamweight rematch. All three cageside judges scored it the same: 29-28 for Bautista (18-3, 12-3 UFC).
Sandhagen (18-7, 11-6 UFC) was undone by two key moments. Bautista appeared to damage his left leg with an attempted Suloev stretch kneebar late in the first round and dropped him with a sweeping left hook in the third. The rest of their 15-minute battle was marked by give-and-take action—Sandhagen opened a cut near the MMA Lab export’s right eye in the second round—in which neither man gained a discernible advantage.
Bautista, 33, has won 10 of his past 11 bouts.
Elsewhere, Factory X mainstay Brandon Royval rebounded from back-to-back losses to Joshua Van and Manel Kape, as he dismissed Lone’er Kavanagh with a rear-naked choke in the third round of their flyweight barnburner. Kavanagh (10-2, 3-2 UFC) waved the white flag of surrender 3:40 into Round 3.
Royval (18-9, 8-5 UFC) leaned into his jab and struck for a takedown in the first round, then averted disaster in the second. There, Kavanagh set him on rubber legs with a clean right hand ov

A fast finish and an action-packed flyweight bout were among the UFC 329 bonus winners.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship handed out a pair of Performance of the Night awards and a Fight of the Night bonus, with each recipient pocketing an extra $100,000 over their contracted fight purse. The fight card featured 11 finishes in total, but a couple of bouts concluded in anticlimactic fashion, with the main event ending via an unfortunate injury.
Paddy Pimblett secured a $100,000 POTN bonus for his submission of Benoit St. Denis in the co-main event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It took Pimblett under a minute to put away his French counterpart, sealing one of the quickest and most emphatic victories of his UFC tenure.
King Green also earned a $100,000 POTN bonus following a dramatic first-round comeback against Terrance McKinney. Despite initially facing an early barrage from McKinney and a submission scare, Green survived and earned a first-round victory with one second to spare.
Brandon Royval and Lone’er Kavanagh bagged FOTN honors and $100,000 each for their back-and-forth flyweight clash. Kavanagh looked sharp in the early frames, but Royval showed his experience to rally back and find a third-round rear-naked choke.
As mentioned earlier, the headliner ended in disappointment as Conor McGregor suffered a knee injury just seconds into his rematch with Max Holloway, resulting in a victory for the Hawaiian.

Conor McGregor will make his long-awaited return to the UFC this week, as he takes on Max Holloway in a rematch 13 years in the making.
McGregor has not fought in five years, having broken his leg in his last outing in the Octagon, a 2021 loss to Dustin Poirier. As such, it’s hard to know which version of the Irishman will appear at UFC 329, where he fights Holloway in Las Vegas.
McGregor vs Holloway LIVE: Fight updates and results from UFC 329 tonight
Holloway has been much more active than his old rival, who outpointed him in 2013, but the Hawaiian enters this fight on the back of a defeat – a one-sided decision against Charles Oliveira in March.
Still, the 34-year-old is a former champion like McGregor, 37, and is deemed one of the greatest featherweights of all time. He has also had success at lightweight, although he will fight McGregor at welterweight, where the Irishman has experience and Holloway does not.

McGregor is not only aiming to come back from his broken leg; in 2024, a civil jury found him liable for rape. The Irishman continues to deny all allegations against him, although his appeal against the verdict failed last year.

Paddy Pimblett suggests Conor McGregor would be the “perfect fight” after UFC 329.
It seems the sportsbooks agree, as BetOnline.ag just opened “The Baddy” as the -150 favorite for a proposed showdown at Madison Square Garden later this year. As for McGregor, he starts out as the +130 underdog. That’s not a particularly huge spread by any means and could easily flip once money starts trickling in.
No doubt the performances from each combatant at this weekend’s UFC 329 event in Las Vegas will determine the direction of their current betting line. McGregor is tasked with rematching Max Holloway in the main event, while Pimblett co-headlines the T-Mobile Card opposite French sensation Benoit Saint Denis.
I guess we’ll have to put his fight against this “fat featherweight” on hold.
McGregor is also an underdog against Holloway, despite defeating the Hawaiian back in 2013, after a five year layoff and a broken leg. A lot of questions will be answered when “Notorious” takes the cage on July 11 in Las Vegas but some of them may have already been answered long before UFC 329.

Max Holloway believes the upcoming Ultimate Fighting Championship headliner is the perfect opportunity to remind fans why he remains one of the sport's biggest stars.
In a recent interview ahead of his rematch with Conor McGregor, Holloway claimed that his goal is to deliver a memorable performance for fans and leave behind an enduring impact on the sport.
Holloway and McGregor will collide at UFC 329, slated for Saturday, July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. “Blessed” lost to the Irishman 13 years ago and sees the rematch as the ideal platform not only to settle the score, but also to return to the win column and add to his legacy.
“All you have to do is win in this sport and win excitingly,” the Hawaiian said ahead of the fight. “I’m going out there… I’m going to put on a show. We are in the entertainment business… We are prize-fighters.”
The former featherweight and BMF champion then highlighted that a win over McGregor would set up big fights down the line.
“I’m going to go out there and remind the world who I am,” Holloway added. “Who knows? I have history with the 155-pound champ, and everybody keeps saying the 170-pound champ’s for Conor. So, if I just fit myself right in there, it would be nice.”
Revealing that he’s motivated by the prospect of setting records that future generations will attempt to surpass, Holloway wants to further cement his legacy with more accolades.
“I am chasing for moments, I am chasing for records, and a lot of people tell me that I got a lot of them, but I want to make it more,” he said. “Unreachable, you know, so the next generation come in, and they see those goals, and they try to break it. It’s all about pushing the next generation,” he concluded.

Former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor will be making his Octagon return against Max Holloway atop the UFC 329 fight card this Sat. night (July 11) in Las Vegas. A second win over the Hawaiian will get “Notorious” right back into the thick of things and resurrect a career that has been on ice (and a few other things) since summer 2021.
Paddy Pimblett will be waiting.
“The perfect fight for me would be Conor,” Pimblett said. “It’s mad to be honest because I think … obviously I won seven fights in a row and I don’t think that my stock went up as much as losing my last fight. You know, I beat people like Michael Chandler, Bobby Green, Tony Ferguson and people are just like, meh, and then I’ve got me head punched in five rounds and my stock went up. I lost but my stock went up because I had a five-round war with a legend like Justin Gaethje but I want that back, you know what I mean? I want to fight him again before he retires. It’s time to get back in the win column.”
Pimblett will also compete at UFC 329, going to war with fellow lightweight contender Benoit Saint Denis in the Paramount+ co-main event. Like McGregor, a highlight-reel finish will go a long way in erasing “The Baddy’s” last performance, a five-round ****** whooping at the hands of newly-crowned lightweight champion Justin Gaethje.
“Benoit moved above me in the rankings for beating Dan Hooker which I thought was quite silly because Dan Hooker’s terrible,” Pimblett added. “He went above me for beating Dan Hooker so I thought that’s the perfect fight. I’m [ranked] six, he’s five. I think I’m better than him everywhere the fight goes. I’ll prove that on July 11th. Mad being on the same card as Conor McGregor, you know what I mean? The biggest name in the sport. It’s nice for him to be back. This is probably going to be the most watched UFC of all time. I’m not going to be the star of the show on this one, definitely not. Conor is, but I’ll probably be the second star of the show.”

Tanner Kagimoto and Josyah Napoleon-Umeda don’t let the giants get their way.
Instead, they let their bats do the talking. Kagimoto, a Kaiser standout, belted a two-run inside-the-park homer and a bases-clearing triple, and scored the game-winning run as the Hawaiian Stars rallied to edge the Aloha Stars 12-11 in 10 innings at the SportStan Sporting Goods Chace Numata Senior Classic on a sunny Friday afternoon at Hans L’Orange Park in Waipahu.
Napoleon-Umeda had the game-winning, walk-off single to score Kagimoto. Napoleon-Umeda finished 3-for-4 with a walk, a sacrifice fly, a home run, two RBis and a stolen base, and also pitched a scoreless third inning, allowing one hit. He was named the game’s MVP, and collected a pristine glass trophy tinted in purple. That capped a superlative senior year. In May, Honokaa captured its first Division II state championship.
Kagimoto, a Hawaii Pacific signee, was named the offensive player of the game and was gifted a new bat. Another Cougars senior, Noah Sham, was named defensive player of the game and received a new glove.
On Friday, Napoleon-Umeda and his mother, Ui, were up before 4 a.m. to make the drive to Kona International Airport along with two Dragons teammates. They departed just after 6 a.m., landed in Honolulu and made their way to Waipahu.

Thirteen years ago, at UFC Fight Night 26 in Boston, future legends Conor McGregor and Max Holloway fought in a featherweight bout on the preliminary card. McGregor defeated "Blessed" via unanimous decision. It was the Irishman's second octagon appearance.
The two will rematch in the UFC 329 main event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on July 11 and neither are the same fighters they were standing across from each other at TD Garden in 2013.
McGregor hasn't fought since UFC 264 in July 2021 when he lost to Dustin Poirier after suffering a gruesome leg injury. It was his second consecutive loss to "The Diamond" and the Irishman has been on the sidelines since. While McGregor was out, Holloway was fighting the best in the world in two different weight classes.
After the loss to McGregor, Holloway went on to win the undisputed featherweight championship. He successfully defended the belt three times. The Hawaiian also captured and defended the BMF ****** le. In the rematch, Holloway intends to take the Irishman into the later rounds and outlast him.
"We drown him. We down him. We're going to give him an old Hawaiian style beating and drown him. We're taking him to deep waters," Holloway said on his YouTube channel. "Come Saturday night, Holloway versus McGregor 2, it's going to be fireworks, man. The 4th of July ain't nothing compared to come July 11th."
