Most crypto wallets have functioned as a home for buying and selling speculative tokens. Caroline D. Pham, CEO of MoonPay Institutional and former acting chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), thinks they are about to do something far more important for most investors.
"I do think that wallets are going to become the future, where you're going to have almost everything in your wallet," Pham said. "It's going to be your checking account, your savings account, your stablecoin wallet, your tokenized fund wallet. It's going to be your brokerage account."

The first step came Sept. 17, when WisdomTree and MoonPay announced a collaboration to expand U.S. access to WTGXX, the WisdomTree Treasury Money Market Digital Fund, which holds short-term Treasuries.
WisdomTree said it is building an access point for its tokenized funds on MoonPay's technology, which reaches more than 35 million users. MoonPay also plans to use the fund in its stablecoin reserves.

XRP ranks last for Q4 after the CLARITY Act's Senate failure removed every legislative catalyst and invalidated year-end targets built around the bill.
Ethereum leads the Q4 outlook as the only coin carrying a dated technical upgrade still on the calendar, edging out Bitcoin and crushing XRP.
Bitcoin reclaiming $80,000 before the November midterms is the single falsifiable trigger that tightens the base scenario for all three coins.

The U.S. Senate voted 49-50 against advancing the CLARITY Act on September 15, falling eleven votes short of the 60 needed to end debate. The defeat leaves crypto's market-structure rules in the hands of the SEC and CFTC rather than Congress, at least for the remainder of 2026.

Polymarket has hired Jacob Horne, the co-founder of Zora, the app behind Coinbase's failed creator-coin experiment, to rebuild its onchain trading product. Chief executive Shayne Coplan announced the move Thursday.
Horne left Zora eight days ago after more than six years running it. His new job sets him against Kalshi, the exchange that now powers Coinbase's own prediction markets across the United States.
Polymarket runs two venues:
Traders outside the US use a market that settles on the Polygon blockchain, a corner of the industry known as Decentralized Finance (DeFi).
Americans use a separate exchange licensed by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

The Commodity and Futures Trading Commission on Thursday paved the way to expand prediction markets and cryptocurrency trading on certain online platforms. DraftKings led a retreat for sports betting stocks Thursday.
The CFTC's Market Participation division issued a no-action letter, saying it will not take enforcement action against providers of what the agency called "passive software."
These passive software providers include companies and developers that offer prediction market, derivatives or crypto trading services, but do not take custody of user ***** ets.
"Subject to certain specified conditions, MPD will not recommend the Commission take enforcement action against any such provider or their relevant personnel for failure to register as an introducing broker or an ***** ociated person of an introducing broker," the regulator said in its announcement. However, this only applies to the "provision and marketing of software to facilitate trading" between users and registered futures commission merchants, introducing brokers, and designated contract merchants.
The decision follows a similar no-action letter from the CFTC in March, which responded to a request from self-custody crypto wallet provider Phantom Technologies, Bloomberg reported. Phantom Technologies partnered with Kalshi to offer predictions market trading to its more than 20 million crypto wallet holders.

Bitcoin faced this week's second major Washington catalyst on Sep. 16, with the Federal Reserve hiking the interest rates after the Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act a day earlier.
The Federal Open Market Committee voted 12-0 to raise the federal funds target range by 25 basis points to 3.75%-4.00%, its first increase since 2023. The Fed said inflation "remains elevated" and that the move would support a timelier return to its 2% target.
The unanimous hike puts the central bank directly at odds with President Donald Trump, who has called for lower borrowing costs and said earlier this month that the U.S. "should be paying the lowest interest rate in the world."

Robinhood (NASDAQ: $HOOD) is expanding its prediction markets business by partnering with Crypto.com and its newly independent derivatives platform, OG.com, as demand for event contracts continues to surge.

Robinhood will also receive equity stakes in Crypto.com and OG.com following OG.com's planned spin-off as an independent trading platform. Ondo Finance has filed three comment letters with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), arguing that existing U.S. regulations already have room for products built on blockchain technology, they just need to be applied differently.
The letters, published Sep. 2, cover three separate rulemaking areas: perpetual futures product definitions, portfolio margining, and market data reporting.
Each letter addresses a different rule, but the underlying argument is the same across all three: regulators should judge whether a system works, not whether it looks like the one it's replacing.

Corn price action is kicking off the final trade day of August with modest losses of fractionally to 1 ½ cents. Month end pressure could play a role today. Futures held onto the Friday gains into the close, with contracts settling 1 to 4 cents higher. September rallied 28 ¼ cents last week, with December 28 up cents. Open interest was up 35,585 contracts on Friday. There were 90 deliveries issued against September corn on First Norice Day. The CmdtyView national average Cash Corn price was back up 2 1/4 cents at $4.84 1/4.
Friday's CFTC data showed managed money in corn futures and options adding a total of 126,008 contracts to their net long as of August 25. That net long was tallied at 376,513 contracts, which was the largest since April 2022, but still over 52,000 contracts shy of the Tuesday record going back to 2006. Specs held a total of 465,500 contracts of outright longs by Tuesday, the largest on record.

Circle Internet Group (NYSE:CRCL) share price surged amid a broad cryptocurrency rally following a White House meeting with industry executives, with lower Treasury yields and expanded government bond buybacks also supporting risk ***** ets. President Donald Trump urged Congress to pass a "fair version" of the CLARITY Act.
The meeting strengthened the policy narrative without changing Circle's immediate economics. Circle Internet Group (NYSE:CRCL) ended the second quarter with $73.3 billion of USDC in circulation, up 19% year over year. Reserve income still represented $668 million of its $701 million in total revenue and reserve income.
The central question is whether clearer rules can expand USDC adoption quickly enough to reduce Circle's dependence on short-term interest rates.
USDC activity continues to expand faster than Circle Internet Group (NYSE:CRCL)'s reported revenue. Onchain transaction volume increased 151% to $14.8 trillion during the second quarter, while average USDC circulation grew 25% to a record $76.5 billion.
The CLARITY Act would complement the GENIUS Act, the federal payment-stablecoin framework enacted in 2025, by addressing broader digital-asset market structure and SEC/CFTC jurisdiction. For Circle Internet Group (NYSE:CRCL), more predictable rules could make banks, payment companies and ***** et managers more comfortable building products around USDC.

Coinbase Global, Inc. (NASDAQ:COIN) jumped 10% on August 19 as Bitcoin gained approximately 6% as of writing and traded at its highest level since early June. The rally followed a White House meeting where President Donald Trump urged Congress to pass a "fair version" of the CLARITY Act. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong joined other cryptocurrency executives and financial regulators at the meeting.
The stock move combined two powerful drivers: cryptocurrency prices and regulatory expectations. Yet the latest results showed why Coinbase Global, Inc. (NASDAQ:COIN) still needs both. Second-quarter revenue declined 19% to $1.22 billion as weaker crypto prices and trading activity pressured results. The company reported a $359.5 million net loss that included a $209.5 million loss on crypto **** ets held for investment and $52.4 million of restructuring expense.
The question is whether Washington can give Coinbase Global, Inc. (NASDAQ:COIN) enough regulatory operating leverage to reduce its dependence on the next Bitcoin rally.
The CLARITY Act would establish clearer jurisdiction between the SEC and CFTC while creating a federal registration framework for digital-commodity exchanges, brokers, and dealers. For Coinbase Global, Inc. (NASDAQ:COIN), clearer classifications could reduce uncertainty around **** et listings and make institutions more comfortable with trading, custody, and tokenized products.
The platform is also broader than it was during earlier cryptocurrency cycles. Coinbase Global, Inc. (NASDAQ:COIN) said its company-defined crypto trading-volume market share reached a record 10.3% in the second quarter, up from 9.1% in the first quarter. Subscription and services revenue totaled $555 million and represented 48% of net revenue, while average USDC held in Coinbase products reached a record $20 billion.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proposed its first permanent digital-asset rule to govern the crypto industry on Aug. 18, and the next day, President Donald Trump held the chief executives of the industry's biggest companies, specifically Coinbase Global, Ripple -- with its XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) -- and Robinhood Markets, at the White House for a summit. That gathering came on the heels of the Senate leaving town on Aug. 8 without voting on the Clarity Act, which many had **** umed would lead to the bill's chances of passage in 2026 becoming very slim.
In some sense, the summit might even have been a response to the sluggishness of Congress. White House crypto advisor Patrick Witt claimed that regulators in the executive agencies -- specifically the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) -- will "break glass" (i.e., use emergency mechanisms) if Congress didn't deliver on the Clarity Act. That could be imminent, so let's break down what's happening with crypto regulation outside of what's being debated in the Capitol.

Kalshi filed with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission on Tuesday to launch perpetual futures contracts tied to U.S. equity indexes and copper, the company's latest effort to expand beyond its prediction market roots into traditional derivatives territory.
The equity index filing seeks to list a perpetual futures contract — known as a "perp" — on the MerQube U.S. Large Cap Index, which tracks the 500 largest companies listed and based in the U.S., according to CNBC. SEC approval is not required for the equity index contracts, Reuters reported, because broad-based equity baskets fall within the CFTC's regulatory purview rather than the SEC's.
The copper contract, designated COPPERPERP, would be a cash-settled perpetual futures contract referencing the spot price of copper in U.S. dollars per pound, using the Pyth Network XCU/USD price feed as its underlying price index, Kalshi said. Each contract would represent 1,000 pounds of copper, with a minimum tick of $0.0005 per pound. The contract would trade continuously from 6:00 PM Eastern Time on Sunday through 5:00 PM Eastern Time on Friday, with a funding payment calculated daily at 10:00 AM Eastern Time on weekdays to keep the contract price aligned with the spot reference price, Kalshi said.
Unlike standard futures, perpetual contracts have no set expiration, meaning traders can maintain a position for as long as they choose. To keep the contract price close to the spot market, the structure relies on periodic funding payments exchanged between opposing sides of the trade.
A month earlier, Kalshi had submitted a CFTC proposal for perps on precious metals such as gold and silver, according to CNBC. The equity index and copper filings extend that push into additional ****** et classes as the company works to position itself as a multi-asset derivatives exchange competing with established operators.

L1 Capital, an investment management firm, released its "L1 Capital International Fund" (unhedged) second-quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. The letter discusses the current investment environment as a 'two-speed' but resilient global economy, accompanied by an uncertain future. The letter explores the potential of an AI bubble, distinguishing between strong fundamentals and speculative momentum. Additionally, the market displays a 'narrow' character, marked by high exuberance and ****** ounced over-pessimism. Against this backdrop, the Fund returned +2.6% (net of fees) during the June 2026 quarter, compared to the benchmark return of +12.5% (all in A$). The underperformance was driven more by which investments were not held in the Fund. The Fund remains focused on quality, valuation and the avoidance of permanent capital loss, and believes the portfolio is positioned to deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns for patient investors. In addition, you can check the Fund's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
According to L1 Capital International Fund's Q2 2026 investor letter, Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (NYSE:ICE), a US-based financial services company that provides technology, data, and market infrastructure to financial institutions, corporations, and government entities, detracted from the performance. On July 17, 2026, Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (NYSE:ICE) closed at $139.65 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $78.97 billion. Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (NYSE:ICE) posted a one-month return of 6.33%, and its shares lost 22.76% over the past 52 weeks.
L1 Capital International Fund stated the following regarding Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (NYSE:ICE) in its Q2 2026 investor update:
"Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (NYSE:ICE) is an example of a high quality business that is not particularly AI-sensitive (positively or negatively) that we ****** s to be trading at a compelling valuation. ICE is trading on a forward price to earnings ratio of around 17x, a level we have not seen since the GFC.
ICE has been a long-term holding of the Fund, and we have discussed the investment on many prior occasions. In our view, not much has changed. There are some market concerns around the impact AI may have on the number of people using ICE's proprietary data and ****** ytics. We think this is a peripheral issue and unlikely to materially impact ICE. The larger market concern is that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), which regulates many of ICE's markets, may authorise 'perpetual' derivatives and encourage competition in products such as crypto that could compete with established regulated exchanges.

The Digital ***** et Market Clarity Act is major crypto legislation and its primary goal is to establish a regulatory framework for virtual ***** ets in the United States by clarifying the jurisdiction of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
But the legislation has proven to be controversial because of the stalemate between the banking and crypto industries over a provision concerning stablecoin rewards.

Related: Explained: What is a stablecoin?
A provision of the bill allows limited rewards for stablecoin holders in which users can earn yields on stablecoin payments, transfers, settlements, etc. However, a user can't earn rewards simply for holding stablecoins.

Earlier this month, Meta Platforms (META) announced several ways to monetize its AI capex, including a new smart glass starting at $299. Reports suggest that it plans to release a prediction market app, which would be powered by what else but artificial intelligence (AI). On paper, the move appears to be a good one. Prediction markets are growing fast, and so is AI adoption. Moreover, tech companies, Meta included, have been looking at ways to monetize, or should we say justify, their AI capex at a time when markets are getting restless with the ever-rising budgets. I would argue that Meta has finally shown some sense of urgency amid an underperforming stock. Let's see what these measures could mean for Meta.
Talking of prediction markets, currently, the legal and regulatory landscape is complicated. While the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has been ***** erting its authority to regulate these platforms, states argue that regulating prediction markets is within their ambit. We are now in a situation where practically everyone is suing everyone else. So, several states have sued Kalshi and Polymarket, leading to counter lawsuits from these platforms. The CFTC has also gotten into the lawsuit game and has sued states that have acted against prediction markets.
