Two days into training camp at St. John Fisher University, the most impactful thing that new Buffalo safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson has done in a Bills uniform didn't happen on the field.
It happened Thursday night, on his own livestream, when the veteran safety told a seasonal training camp staff member that his foundation was donating $20,000 toward her student loans.
"I'm helping someone who is helping me," Gardner-Johnson said on the stream. "She helps us on the field, right? Keep us fresh. Only here with us for camp, so why not pay it with respect because you don't know what people are going through."
She isn't an NFL or Bills staff member, but a temp for six weeks. Gardner-Johnson wanted her to know she was as valued as anyone else on the field or off it.
Gardner-Johnson has been broadcasting his camp days since he reported, which is exactly the kind of thing a first-year head coach has to decide how to handle in Week 1 of his tenure.

Hedge fund giant Citadel on Thursday purchased a distressed portion of AI protege hedge fund Situational Awareness. The move sent a bullish shock through the U.S. stock market and was broadly credited with triggering Friday's positive market action. Situational Awareness, run by former OpenAI employee Leopold Aschenbrenner, had swelled to more than $20 billion in **** ets in the two years since its founding.
That ramp up required heavy leverage, funded by banks. And as artificial intelligence-related stocks came under recent pressure, Situational Awareness could not keep up with margin calls forcing it to raise cash. Reuters reported that the California-based fund lost 67% of its value in July, after selling $16 billion of its public portfolio.
Citadel founder and fund manager Ken Griffin has made a long-term strategy of digging diamonds out of ash. Citadel made similarly aggressive moves during Enron's bankruptcy in 2001, during the meltdown of hedge fund Sowood Capital as the Great Recession took hold in 2007, and in propping up hedge fund Melvin Capital in 2021 as meme stock investors piled in against the firm's short bet on GameStop (GME).
"During market stress, the collective judgment of our business leaders, risk managers and portfolio managers enables us to capitalize on market opportunities when others, who depend on simplistic stop-loss approaches, cannot," Griffin wrote in a 2023 letter, as reported by Reuters.

Zohran Mamdani stormed into office brandishing the banner of "affordability," and almost singlehandedly pushed the issue to the center of today's political debate. Of all the charismatic, 34-year-old Mayor's initiatives aimed at lowering living costs, the one that's garnered the most coverage is his proposal to get Gotham into the grocery business.
The city-owned food store initiative looks so radical, even for this avowed democratic socialist, because it puts a city in direct competition versus an immense, entrenched private industry. On his other big "affordability" initiatives, providing free bus service and freezing rent on one million apartments, Mamdani's simply using his regulatory and budget powers in the Democratic mayors' traditional vein of tightening price controls on housing and delivering more freebees
This one's different: It's extraordinarily rare for a municipality to challenge local businesses by starting its own enterprises that aim to do the same thing. The only major example: city-backed companies that battle the Verizons and Comcasts to supply broadband. They're all either struggling, or already flopped. Mamdani's predecessor Eric Adams shuttered the $2 billion fiber-optic buildout started a few years earlier under Mayor Bill de Blasio. As for supermarkets, Chicago last year killed plans for a city-owned emporium as impractical. Kansas City, apparently the only major metro ever to open a taxpayer-funded supermarket, ended the failed foray in early 2025.
Hence, Mamdani's plan would probably reign as the biggest push any city's ever made to launch its own business amid a galaxy of private players. The Mayor's identified a big problem. New Yorkers indeed suffer from extremely high prices for everything from chicken to eggs to milk. The city's riddled with "food desert" neighborhoods where residents often can't find much other than processed items nearby, and must travel 20 minutes or more to reach outlets that offer wide choices of fresh foods at low cost.
But that drastic shortage in the metro that ranks among the world's wealthiest is almost totally self-inflicted. Contrary to Mamdani's claim that "the private market alone has not delivered affordable, full-service grocery options," here's the real rub: A web of antiquated regulations—and one in particular that effectively bans big stores where they're needed most—is blocking major chains from deploying billions of their own capital to open far more of the kinds of giant extravaganzas featuring baseball-field length stretches of checkout lanes that bring far lower stickers to the suburbs just beyond Gotham's borders.

That's the crux of the problem with Bristol Myers Squibb right now. Material patent expirations are occurring, including Revlimid and Pomalyst in 2026. And that will be followed by Eliquis, which is marketed with Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) in 2028. While patent expirations are common, the outcome is usually a material drop in revenue from the affected drugs. So Bristol Myers Squibb's top and bottom lines are going to be under pressure for a bit. If that's the case, the low P/E and high yield relative to the broader sector could simply be Wall Street pricing in the patent expirations.
Management isn't sitting around with its head in the sand. The company is actively looking for new drug candidates. And it actually has some attractive pipeline options in rare diseases, immunology, and cancer. If the company gets a couple of new blockbuster drugs approved, it could easily offset the hit from drugs that are losing patent protection. If that comes to pass, today's relatively low price will turn out to be a bargain.

The body of renowned British-Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja has been recovered on Broad Peak in Pakistan, rescuers have said.
The Alpine Club of Pakistan said on Sunday that he was found about 5,700m up the mountain, where three further bodies have been sighted although their identities have not been confirmed.

The 2026 summer tour of Canada is over for Marquette men's basketball, and I can happily report that the Golden Eagles went 3-0 on their three game set in Vancouver. They wrapped up the series with a 102-65 victory over Fraser Valley on Saturday afternoon.
Of interest to the proceedings: Marquette did this shorthanded, as they were without Adrien Stevens due to illness. If you were watching the live stats and missed the update on Twitter, and thus wondered what was up: No reason to worry long term.

The body of renowned British-Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja has been recovered on Broad Peak in Pakistan, rescuers have said.
The Alpine Club of Pakistan said on Sunday that he was found about 5,700m up the mountain, where three further bodies have been sighted although their identities have not been confirmed.
The 43-year-old's death was announced on Saturday by his company, Elite Expeditions, which said he was among 10 people were killed in the avalanche. The Prince of Wales was among those to pay tribute.
Purja, who was born in Nepal and later served in the British Army, was known for scaling the world's 14 highest peaks in just over six months in 2019.
The Alpine Club said a ground team would take the recovered bodies to a ***** anese camp.

Today in Boston Celtics history, in 2005, the team signed Brian Scalabrine during free agency. The native of Enumclaw, Washington, entered into a five-year contract with the Celtics valued at $15 million.
An alum of the University of Southern California, Scalabrine, often called the "White Mamba," was selected 34th overall in the NBA Draft by the then New Jersey Nets (now the Brooklyn Nets). He played four seasons with the Nets before joining the Celtics as an unrestricted free agent. Scalabrine spent an additional five seasons with the Celtics, contributing to the team's championship victory in 2008. He later transitioned to the Chicago Bulls, where he concluded his playing career.
He then tried his hand at **** istant coaching and broadcasting, where he still works today with NBC Boston Sports.
It was also on this date that former Celtics center Greg Stiemsma left the team in free agency to join the Minnesota Timberwolves. He played his college ball at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and spent time overseas and in developmental league play before joining Boston late in 2011. Stiemsma would play just one season with the Celtics, averaging 2.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. It was enough to get him on Minnesota's radar, where he would play one more season of his four years in the NBA.
Today is also the day that the team sent forward Antoine Walker to the Miami Heat for Curtis Borchardt, Qyntel Woods, Albert Miralles, and two future second-round picks in 2005. Miralles would subsequently be dealt for Keyon Dooling and additional draft **** ets as Walker's second stint with the Celtics would draw to an end. He logged 16.3 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.7 **** ists, and 1.2 steals per game that past season.
