Two days into training camp at St. John Fisher University, the most impactful thing that new Buffalo safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson has done in a Bills uniform didn't happen on the field.
It happened Thursday night, on his own livestream, when the veteran safety told a seasonal training camp staff member that his foundation was donating $20,000 toward her student loans.
"I'm helping someone who is helping me," Gardner-Johnson said on the stream. "She helps us on the field, right? Keep us fresh. Only here with us for camp, so why not pay it with respect because you don't know what people are going through."
She isn't an NFL or Bills staff member, but a temp for six weeks. Gardner-Johnson wanted her to know she was as valued as anyone else on the field or off it.
Gardner-Johnson has been broadcasting his camp days since he reported, which is exactly the kind of thing a first-year head coach has to decide how to handle in Week 1 of his tenure.

A rebuild was always on the cards on Tyneside this summer, not least in the goalkeeping department.
Leaky Newcastle kept just eight clean sheets in the Premier League last season and conceded 55 goals, 15th overall with only relegated Burnley, West Ham and Wolves plus Leeds and Tottenham below them.
Newcastle's outfield players clearly did not offer enough protection, but goalkeeper Nick Pope made a handful of significant errors leading to goals while Aaron Ramsdale never fully convinced during his loan spell and has since returned to Southampton.
A new number one was therefore a priority and Newcastle have once again looked to the continent.
The club have mainly targeted players aged 20 and under from abroad, having already recruited Jaouen, Sean Steur, Bazoumana Toure and Aladji Bamba, so Lukas Lukas Hornicek will feel like something of an elder statesman in comparison.

FC Internazionale Milano have reached a historic and significant milestone, which cements their size on a global scale. The Nerazzurri now have over 100 million fans on their social media platforms, distributed across their 26 different profiles.
It is an achievement that goes beyond mere numbers and tells the tale of a project that has been carried out over time, in which on-field success has been linked to an increasingly structured digital strategy, which has broadened the horizons of its fanbase to new audiences outside of Italy.
In the last twelve months, this growth has been constant and significant, having drawn in over 16 million new fans, an increase of over 20%, which is a leading figure among the world's top clubs. In the last six months (February to July), this growth has taken the Club over the 100-million mark, strengthening Inter's position as one of the most popular entities in world football. In particular, YouTube and TikTok, two key platforms in the Club's internationalisation, largely drove this increase in followers.
Inter have surpassed 10 million subscribers on YouTube, joining an elite group of global football clubs on the platform. Between February and July, the Club recorded 6.1 million new subscribers, representing growth of 135%. This milestone has also seen Inter climb to seventh in the global ranking of football clubs by subscriber count.
At the same time, TikTok continued to establish itself as one of the Club's most dynamic platforms, with steady growth in both its fanbase (+4 million followers between February and July) and engagement. It was on TikTok that the Club also experimented with new storytelling formats, launching an innovative "Out Of Phone" campaign to celebrate its 21st Scudetto. For the first time, content native to the platform stepped beyond the smartphone screen to become a shared, real-world experience, accompanying the Bus Parade and turning Milano into an extension of the Club's digital storytelling. The initiative generated hundreds of millions of views and drove a significant increase in followers, further demonstrating Inter's ability to bring the digital and physical worlds together through moments of powerful emotional impact.

Former West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin refused to offer support for any self-described socialist candidates ahead of the midterm elections on Sunday's broadcast of CBS' "Face the Nation."
"No way," Manchin said when asked if he would ever support a socialist. "My God, no."
"Even if they have some good ideas?" host Margaret Brennan pressed.
"I support the good ideas," he said. "But how could you support some of the crazy stuff they're for?"

The Prince and Princess of Wales will use very strict protocol to protect the future partners of their children, a royal expert has revealed.
William and Kate, both 44, are keen to ensure that the future love interests of their children are protected from press intrusions and are expected to replicate the same privacy agreements that protected their own romance as it blossomed during their time at St Andrews University.
According to the former broadcaster and royal author, Simon Vigar, the Waleses have already put considerable thought into their potential romances of Prince George, 13, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, eight.
Speaking to GB News, Simon shared how William and Kate will manage the public introduction of their children's future spouses.
William and Kate reaped the benefits of 'the Gentleman's Agreement', which meant the press agreed to leave the Prince in peace during his studies.

During the Minnesota-Indiana matchup on Sunday, Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve wore a shirt that expressed support for transgender athletes. On the ESPN broadcast, play-by-play commentator Ryan Ruocco acknowledged the message and context of Reeve's shirt.
"We see Cheryl Reeve wearing a shirt today in support of trans kids. 'Trans kids belong' [is] on the shirt. This is in the aftermath of Sophie Cunningham's recent comments."
For the past several days, the WNBA community has been buzzing about Cunningham's remarks about protecting the rights of female athletes in sports where they "shouldn't have to go against biological men."
After Ruocco called attention to Reeve's shirt, which expresses a view different from Cunningham's perspective, color **** yst Rebecca Lobo came in with a suggestion.
"I would encourage anyone to go and listen to Cheryl Reeve's comment. Incredibly thoughtful, easy to find online."

The uranium fund's history of deep dives offers a tough lesson for anyone tempted by the current discount.
Of the 15 times the Global X Uranium ETF (URA) has taken a steep dive since 2010, 14 are old enough to have a full twelve-month track record, and only 6 of those 14 episodes ended with a positive return. With the fund now sitting about 36% below its 52-week high, you are likely looking at that loss and asking a simple question: is this a bargain, or a warning sign?
For some funds, a dip is a gift. For others, it is a trap. The difference often comes down to what the fund holds. A broad, diversified basket is generally thought to recover more reliably from drawdowns. A concentrated, single-theme fund carries no such ****** umption, it can stay underwater for years if its theme falls out of favor. URA's own history suggests buying its dips is far from a sure thing.
A History of Hard Knocks
When URA has fallen this hard in the past, the typical outcome over the following year was not a rebound. The median return in the twelve months after a dip was negative 4%. While some episodes paid off handsomely, the range of outcomes was wide, from a one-year loss of 47% to a gain of 126%.

The geopolitical conflict in the Middle East has the world on edge. The daily news flow from the region can lead to wide swings in oil and natural gas prices. But the truth is that the energy sector has long been volatile, and today's events aren't all that unusual. Which is why long-term investors should probably focus on reliable dividend-paying energy stocks.
ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM) has one of the most impressive dividend histories in the energy industry. Close behind is Chevron (NYSE: CVX). For those looking to avoid direct commodity exposure, two of the most reliable high-yield stocks are Enbridge (NYSE: ENB) and Enterprise Products Partners (NYSE: EPD). With yields of up to 5.7%, this group of stocks could be your entry point into energy in August.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
It actually gets easier to find energy stocks if you start with the premise that the energy sector is volatile. Income-focused investors can immediately look for the strongest companies with the best dividend histories. That very quickly leads to Exxon and Chevron.
From a business model perspective, they are both globally dominant integrated energy companies. They have exposure to the entire energy value chain, including the upstream (production), midstream (pipelines), and the downstream (chemicals and refining). Geographically, they can invest where management believes it can find the highest returns. And, the broad portfolio diversification helps to soften the energy market's normal swings.

Hedge fund giant Citadel on Thursday purchased a distressed portion of AI protege hedge fund Situational Awareness. The move sent a bullish shock through the U.S. stock market and was broadly credited with triggering Friday's positive market action. Situational Awareness, run by former OpenAI employee Leopold Aschenbrenner, had swelled to more than $20 billion in **** ets in the two years since its founding.
That ramp up required heavy leverage, funded by banks. And as artificial intelligence-related stocks came under recent pressure, Situational Awareness could not keep up with margin calls forcing it to raise cash. Reuters reported that the California-based fund lost 67% of its value in July, after selling $16 billion of its public portfolio.
Citadel founder and fund manager Ken Griffin has made a long-term strategy of digging diamonds out of ash. Citadel made similarly aggressive moves during Enron's bankruptcy in 2001, during the meltdown of hedge fund Sowood Capital as the Great Recession took hold in 2007, and in propping up hedge fund Melvin Capital in 2021 as meme stock investors piled in against the firm's short bet on GameStop (GME).
"During market stress, the collective judgment of our business leaders, risk managers and portfolio managers enables us to capitalize on market opportunities when others, who depend on simplistic stop-loss approaches, cannot," Griffin wrote in a 2023 letter, as reported by Reuters.

The management team at American Express (NYSE: AXP) is optimistic about the future. Executives expect the company's revenue to increase at 10% per year over the long term, with diluted earnings per share rising at a mid-teens rate. This is a meaningful tailwind that can help fuel investor returns.

Tottenham are being linked with Victor Osimhen and, on the face of it, the logic is obvious. If you want a proper centre-forward, you go after one of the most productive strikers on the market. According to Caught Offside, Spurs have made initial approaches worth between £50 million and £55 million, while Galatasaray want closer to £65 million.
That gap matters. So does the broader context. Tottenham have already spent heavily, and this is not a club that can keep throwing money around without consequences. If the deal climbs, it stops looking like ambition and starts looking like a gamble.
Osimhen's output is elite. He scored 41 goals and supplied 10 ***** ists in 52 appearances last season. Those figures are the reason he is being framed as a major target for Roberto De Zerbi, who is rebuilding Tottenham's attacking options and wants a reliable focal point.
The report states that Spurs "have received sporting approval to begin formal negotiations" and believe "personal terms would not create a major obstacle". That is encouraging, but only up to a point. It also says "There has been no official approach or direct contact between Tottenham and Galatasaray." That means this is still at the exploratory stage, not the closing stage.

Zohran Mamdani stormed into office brandishing the banner of "affordability," and almost singlehandedly pushed the issue to the center of today's political debate. Of all the charismatic, 34-year-old Mayor's initiatives aimed at lowering living costs, the one that's garnered the most coverage is his proposal to get Gotham into the grocery business.
The city-owned food store initiative looks so radical, even for this avowed democratic socialist, because it puts a city in direct competition versus an immense, entrenched private industry. On his other big "affordability" initiatives, providing free bus service and freezing rent on one million apartments, Mamdani's simply using his regulatory and budget powers in the Democratic mayors' traditional vein of tightening price controls on housing and delivering more freebees
This one's different: It's extraordinarily rare for a municipality to challenge local businesses by starting its own enterprises that aim to do the same thing. The only major example: city-backed companies that battle the Verizons and Comcasts to supply broadband. They're all either struggling, or already flopped. Mamdani's predecessor Eric Adams shuttered the $2 billion fiber-optic buildout started a few years earlier under Mayor Bill de Blasio. As for supermarkets, Chicago last year killed plans for a city-owned emporium as impractical. Kansas City, apparently the only major metro ever to open a taxpayer-funded supermarket, ended the failed foray in early 2025.
Hence, Mamdani's plan would probably reign as the biggest push any city's ever made to launch its own business amid a galaxy of private players. The Mayor's identified a big problem. New Yorkers indeed suffer from extremely high prices for everything from chicken to eggs to milk. The city's riddled with "food desert" neighborhoods where residents often can't find much other than processed items nearby, and must travel 20 minutes or more to reach outlets that offer wide choices of fresh foods at low cost.
But that drastic shortage in the metro that ranks among the world's wealthiest is almost totally self-inflicted. Contrary to Mamdani's claim that "the private market alone has not delivered affordable, full-service grocery options," here's the real rub: A web of antiquated regulations—and one in particular that effectively bans big stores where they're needed most—is blocking major chains from deploying billions of their own capital to open far more of the kinds of giant extravaganzas featuring baseball-field length stretches of checkout lanes that bring far lower stickers to the suburbs just beyond Gotham's borders.
#affordability

On July 27, Atlanta Braves pitcher Connor Thomas recorded one of the worst outings of the season.
In 2.2 innings, Thomas allowed 10 hits, five walks, three home runs and 11 earned runs in total.
Before entering the game in the sixth inning, the game was tied 3-3. However, it quickly got out of hand as the New York Mets scored 11 unanswered runs en route to a 14-3 win over the Braves.
After being removed from the game in the eighth inning, the Mets broadcast team was sympathetic towards Thomas after reading his final line.
Because of this performance, Thomas' ERA ballooned to 21.32 for the season. This isn't a new thing for him either; in 2025 with the Milwaukee Brewers, Thomas had an ERA of 20.25 in two appearances.

Hull City are moving closer to a deal for Ivanovic, with discussions ongoing with Benfica over a transfer structure that would ultimately take the package to at least €25 million, according to Record.
The Croatian striker appears destined for English football, with the Championship club working through the final details of an agreement that would allow Benfica to recoup the investment made in the player last summer. While the transfer is not yet completed, the broad outline of the move is becoming clearer.
The proposed arrangement is understood to centre on a paid loan, followed by an obligation to buy. That format often gives buying clubs a little more flexibility around timing and accounting, while still providing the selling club with confidence that the transfer will become permanent.
What remains under negotiation are the exact conditions that will trigger the mandatory purchase. Those details can often shape how quickly a move is finalised, particularly when clubs want clarity over appearances, promotion outcomes, or other performance-related benchmarks.
From Hull City's perspective, this looks like an ambitious play. A package of at least €25 million, roughly £21.5 million, signals serious intent in the market and suggests the club see Ivanovic as a major attacking piece rather than a squad option. For a side looking to improve its cutting edge, landing a number nine with this level of backing would be a statement.

Bristol Myers Squibb (NYSE: BMY) looks attractive from a value perspective. For example, its dividend yield is a lofty 4% compared to the S&P 500 index's (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) 1% and the pharmaceutical sector's average of around 1.5%. From a more traditional perspective, Bristol Myers Squibb's 17.5x price-to-earnings ratio is well below the industry average of 25x. Here's why it may not be as cheap as it looks and what needs to happen to change that.
There is nothing particularly unusual happening with Bristol Myers Squibb's business. That is important to highlight because the pharmaceutical industry is highly competitive, research-driven, and has a unique patent situation that materially complicates things even for the largest drug makers. The issue is that the patent protections for new drugs are time-limited, but research and development outcomes are unpredictable.
Continue »
That's the crux of the problem with Bristol Myers Squibb right now. Material patent expirations are occurring, including Revlimid and Pomalyst in 2026. And that will be followed by Eliquis, which is marketed with Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) in 2028. While patent expirations are common, the outcome is usually a material drop in revenue from the affected drugs. So Bristol Myers Squibb's top and bottom lines are going to be under pressure for a bit. If that's the case, the low P/E and high yield relative to the broader sector could simply be Wall Street pricing in the patent expirations.
Management isn't sitting around with its head in the sand. The company is actively looking for new drug candidates. And it actually has some attractive pipeline options in rare diseases, immunology, and cancer. If the company gets a couple of new blockbuster drugs approved, it could easily offset the hit from drugs that are losing patent protection. If that comes to pass, today's relatively low price will turn out to be a bargain.

After Maghreeb Foot quoted Mohamed Amoura's agent as saying that his client was close to joining RB Leipzig from VfL Wolfsburg, Sky Germany have moved to dismiss the report.
According to the German broadcaster, the claims have been rejected by both clubs and are considered wide of the mark.
Sky further report that Leipzig's current focus is on signing Fisnik Asllani from TSG Hoffenheim instead.
Amoura, 26, is widely expected to leave Wolfsburg following the club's relegation from the Bundesliga last season.

Monster Beverage (NASDAQ: MNST) just announced a 2-for-1 stock split, set to take effect in mid-August, the latest in a long line of splits for one of the market's great long-term winners.
With about $200, you can easily own shares. But a split is never the real reason to buy a stock. The business behind it is, and Monster's is as strong as ever.

Monster is the energy drink powerhouse behind Monster Energy, and its secret weapon is a partnership most casual observers have forgotten. Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) owns roughly a fifth of the company and distributes Monster through its vast worldwide bottling network. That gives a mid-sized beverage company the global reach of a giant. Monster is using that muscle to expand aggressively into Southeast Asia, China, India, and other fast-growing markets, and international sales now make up nearly half of its business. For a brand once seen as an American phenomenon, that runway abroad is enormous.
What keeps Monster fresh is a nonstop stream of new products. The company rolls out new flavors and zero-sugar variants constantly, from limited-edition cans to region-specific launches, keeping fans engaged and shelves turning. Its marketing leans into motorsports, gaming, and action sports, cementing a rebellious, high-energy identity that money alone cannot buy.

The 2026 summer tour of Canada is over for Marquette men's basketball, and I can happily report that the Golden Eagles went 3-0 on their three game set in Vancouver. They wrapped up the series with a 102-65 victory over Fraser Valley on Saturday afternoon.
Of interest to the proceedings: Marquette did this shorthanded, as they were without Adrien Stevens due to illness. If you were watching the live stats and missed the update on Twitter, and thus wondered what was up: No reason to worry long term.
And now, 2:40 of highlights from the game:
As was the case with the first two games, there was no streaming broadcast of this contest. Everything you're about to read comes at you by way of the live stats and the box score.
For the third game in a row, this was contested with four 10 minutes quarters.

Today in Boston Celtics history, in 2005, the team signed Brian Scalabrine during free agency. The native of Enumclaw, Washington, entered into a five-year contract with the Celtics valued at $15 million.
An alum of the University of Southern California, Scalabrine, often called the "White Mamba," was selected 34th overall in the NBA Draft by the then New Jersey Nets (now the Brooklyn Nets). He played four seasons with the Nets before joining the Celtics as an unrestricted free agent. Scalabrine spent an additional five seasons with the Celtics, contributing to the team's championship victory in 2008. He later transitioned to the Chicago Bulls, where he concluded his playing career.
He then tried his hand at **** istant coaching and broadcasting, where he still works today with NBC Boston Sports.
It was also on this date that former Celtics center Greg Stiemsma left the team in free agency to join the Minnesota Timberwolves. He played his college ball at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and spent time overseas and in developmental league play before joining Boston late in 2011. Stiemsma would play just one season with the Celtics, averaging 2.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. It was enough to get him on Minnesota's radar, where he would play one more season of his four years in the NBA.
Today is also the day that the team sent forward Antoine Walker to the Miami Heat for Curtis Borchardt, Qyntel Woods, Albert Miralles, and two future second-round picks in 2005. Miralles would subsequently be dealt for Keyon Dooling and additional draft **** ets as Walker's second stint with the Celtics would draw to an end. Growing up in the heart of Los Angeles, Zoey Deutch was surrounded by the entertainment industry from an early age, but she has worked hard to establish an identity built on her own talent rather than her family's legacy. With a natural screen presence, sharp comedic timing, and an increasingly diverse filmography, Deutch has emerged as one of Hollywood's most versatile actresses. From independent dramas to romantic comedies and major studio productions, she has consistently demonstrated an ability to move effortlessly between genres while maintaining a distinctive charm that resonates with audiences.
Born into a family deeply connected to film and television, Deutch is the daughter of actress Lea Thompson and director Howard Deutch, while her sister, Madelyn Deutch, has also built a successful career as an actress and writer. Despite these influences, Zoey has always embraced her own creative path. Proud of her Southern California roots, she often speaks fondly of growing up in the San Fernando Valley and appreciates the unique experience of living and working in the same city. Her upbringing extended beyond film sets, however. Surrounded by a wide variety of family pets, she developed an appreciation for animals that she believes helped shape her empathy and understanding of different personalities. Years of training in ballet, jazz, tap, modern dance, and hip-hop also instilled discipline, physical awareness, and confidence that later translated naturally into her performances on screen.
Away from acting, Deutch is known for her enthusiasm for food and cooking. She enjoys experimenting with new flavors and recipes and has often spoken about the pleasure she finds in preparing meals for family and friends. Dinner, in particular, holds a special place in her routine, offering an opportunity to slow down, enjoy meaningful conversations, and connect with the people around her. Whether taking on the challenge of cooking a full holiday feast for the first time or discovering unexpected flavor combinations, she approaches food with the same curiosity and enthusiasm that she brings to her creative work.
Although Deutch is open about many of her interests, she also values maintaining a sense of privacy. She prefers allowing audiences to interpret her films for themselves rather than explaining exactly what they should take away from a performance. This thoughtful approach reflects her broader philosophy of letting the work speak for itself. As her career continues to evolve, Zoey Deutch has established herself as far more than Hollywood royalty by **** ociation. Through dedication, versatility, and an authentic passion for storytelling, she continues to earn recognition on her own merits while building a career that promises to remain one of the most exciting of her generation.
