Bristol City will travel to Deepdale this evening to take on Preston, as they look to pick up back-to-back wins in the Championship.
The Robins got their first three points on the board on Saturday, beating Portsmouth 2-1 in front of a packed Ashton Gate. Lorent Tolaj opened the scoring by netting his first Championship goal, before Jason Knight headed home a second on the hour mark. A late penalty for Pompey made for a nervy final few minutes in the South West, but Michael Skubala's side ultimately got over the line.
Preston, meanwhile, have lost their opening three matches to Bolton, Wolves and most recently Charlton Athletic, giving cause for concern amongst fans ahead of taking on a side that will be aiming for a play-off spot come May, whilst the Lilywhites are more worried about securing their spot in this division for next season.
Preston have underperformed their xG so far this season, creating enough chances to have scored three goals, but only netting two so far. They have also only registered an average of two shots on target per match, the lowest in the league. By contrast, the Robins have netted four goals in their last two outings, against Birmingham City and Portsmouth, with both Tolaj and Dom Ballard opening their accounts in the process.
Bristol City have picked up four points from their last two trips to Deepdale; it arguably should be six, but Anis Mehmeti failed to make his chances count last year, meaning the game finished 0-0. Max Bird, Yu Hirakawa and Nahki Wells were on the scoresheet the year before, as Liam Manning's side picked up a 3-1 win. Preston won the last meeting between these sides 2-0, back in January, when Lewis Dobbin and Alfie Devine found the net.

Former Great Britain international Marius Dobel-Ober has been named as the new head coach at Truro Fencing Club.
The club, which has produced four Olympians, has recently been taken over by a firm spearheaded by former Truro head coach and Team GB Olympic coach Jon Salfield.
Dobel-Ober will be based at Truro School's Cornwall Fencing Centre.
The last British Olympian to come from the club was James Honeybone in 2012 while Brazil's Marta Baeza trained at the club ahead of her home Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro four years later.
Dobel-Ober says he has a twin mission of getting more people into the sport and coaching those who could one day compete at the highest level:

Fresh off the news of the merger with Most Valuable Promotions, Professional Fighters League continued its "Summer Series" runof events with a surge of momentum.

Two of the company's top superstars made their return aslightweight champion UsmanNurmagomedov put his ***** le on the line against undefeatedchallenger ArchieColgan, and DakotaDitcheva denied DeniseKielholtz following a year on the shelf.
Following a brutal and decisive first-round finish over Colgan, there are immediate questions on the future of Nurmagomedov and hisplace in the company, as he just fought out the last fight of hiscontract. Nurmagomedov made it a point to see how the PFL/MVPmerger would lead to a contract offer in terms of pay, and if theykeep him, there's a clear top contender in Shabliy. DefeatingAlfieDavis by unanimous decision last month, Shabliy discussed hisdesire for a ***** le fight and he could get a chance at revenge froma 2024 loss to Nurmagomedov.
Taking on Kielholtz in her first action in over a year, Ditchevadid not have her most outstanding performance, and it was clear shewas shaking off some rust. Ditcheva would control the pace anddistance, grabbing momentum early and never letting it go. Aftergetting the rust off, it's time for the most anticipated women'smatchup in the PFL to take place against last year's tournamentchampion in Carmouche. Getting a recent win over VivianeAraujo, these two women are on a collision course and thereshould be no more time wasted.
Magomedov's performance proved there is another Russian star on thepromotion's roster. Part of the Nurmagomedov team, Magomedov waselectric in his manhandling of AngelAlvarez, chopping down his legs with brutal kicks andeventually getting the TKO finish in the second round. He shouldnow face off against the 2025 PFL Lightweight tournament champion.Davis just suffered a loss to Shabliy back in June, but could getright back into the top of the division if he can stop the momentumof Magomedov. Davis has said that he felt he fought his best in hisloss against Nurmagomedov, who knows Magomedov well, and he couldserve as a great test to see just how quickly he can get himselfback to ***** le contention.
Dayron arguably went through the toughest test of his career and itwas also his closest fight, as he pulled off a razor-thin decisionover RaufeonStots. His opponent was thoroughly shocked at the decision, butit saw Dayron keep his undefeated record intact. Even with the win,Dayron would benefit from another veteran test, and he'd get justthat in Pettis. Recently, Pettis was scheduled to square offagainst LewisMcGrillen-Evans but had to withdraw due to injury, if Pettiscan get healthy sooner than later, he would serve as another greattest for Dayron.

To soccer (ahem, football) fans, Erling Haaland needs no introduction. The lumbering Norwegian striker tore through Bundesliga defenses time and time again before joining Manchester City in 2022. Though the "Cityzens" had already won the Premier League four of the previous five seasons, the addition of Haaland took them to new heights as the bleach-blonde striker poured in a record 35 goals in his first campaign. He followed that with another 31 in 2023-24, leading City to an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League ***** le.
This summer, Haaland has introduced himself to the rest of the world as he has led Norway—now the 2026 World Cup's de-facto Cinderella—to a quarterfinal clash with mighty England. Before Saturday's showdown, however, Haaland was spotted getting some much needed R&R … on the golf course.

Here at Golf Digest, we are obviosuly excited that Haaland shares our passion for the game of golf, but his father Alfe-Inge "Alfie" Haaland is probably even happier. Though Alfie Haaland was also professional footballer, playing In the Premier League for clubs like Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and, you guessed it, Manchester City, the younger Haaland revealed in a recent video on his YouTube channel that his dad actually wanted him to be a pro golfer instead of a soccer player.

Preston North End have signed Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Alfie Devine for a club-record fee on a five-year contract.
The fee is undisclosed but the Championship club have said it is "almost three times" the fee they paid for Portsmouth forward Callum Lang in February, which was reported to be around £2m.
Devine, 21, scored eight goals in 45 league appearances on loan with the Lilywhites last season.
He came through Wigan's academy before joining Spurs in August 2020 and is their youngest-ever goalscorer after getting on the scoresheet in the FA Cup win at non-league Marine aged 16 years and 163 days in January 2021.
"From the end of last season going into the summer, it was always a priority in terms of where I wanted to be. It took its time, but I'm delighted it's gone through," Devine, whose father Sean played rugby league for St Helens, told the club website.

Erling Haaland’s father Alfie Haaland talked to DAZN ahead of Norway’s match against Brazil in the FIFA World Cup’s Round of 16 and was asked about his son’s chances of ever playing for Real Madrid.
“I don’t wanna talk much about elections at other clubs. He’s happy at City, he’s got a long contract… but any player wants to play for Real Madrid,” he said when asked about Enrique Riquelme’s promise to sign him had he been elected as the club’s president.
DAZN’s Sergio Quirante insisted and Alfie Haaland didn’t mince words about whether or not his son will ever play in Spain.
“Maybe, maybe… There are always opportunities in football. In Spain there are fantastic teams, there are big clubs. You never know, but right now he’s in England and he’s happy,” he added.
Haaland ended up scoring two goals and leading Norway to a massive 2-1 upset over Brazil.

The possibility of an Erling Haaland Real Madrid move has once again become a major talking point after fresh comments from his father, Alfie Haaland, reignited long-standing transfer speculation surrounding the Manchester City striker.
For years, Real Madrid have been linked with the Norwegian superstar, and the latest comments from Haaland’s father are certain to attract attention.
While there is no indication that an immediate deal is on the cards, the conversation around Haaland to Real Madrid simply refuses to disappear.
Questions about Erling Haaland’s future at Manchester City continue to emerge despite the striker being under a long-term contract at the Premier League club until 2034.
Ahead of Norway’s FIFA World Cup Round of 16 clash against Brazil, Alfie Haaland was asked about his son’s situation and whether an eventual Erling Haaland Real Madrid transfer could happen in the future.

When three football fans went to a World Cup game to cheer on England at Boston Stadium, they took inspiration from their national team's iconic emblem.
Charlie, Alfie and Ernie, from Buxton in Derbyshire, dressed as three lions in homage to the Three Lions badge worn on England jerseys for more than 150 years.
Their furry attire brought the 17-year-olds plenty of attention, leading to appearances alongside American journalists and on BBC's The One Show.
Despite England's goalless draw with Ghana, the trio enjoyed their 15 minutes of fame.
The teenagers posed for about 70 photos in the stadium and were stopped by five different American news reporters, which meant it took a long time for them to get to their seats.
