Meta Platforms (META) stock is riding a near 20% rally this month with shares boosted by optimism about its Muse AI agent app and, more recently, custom chips. The next test for Meta's rally comes next week.
Meta is hosting its annual Connect developer conference starting Wednesday. Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg typically uses the event to preview the company's slate of application updates and new hardware. Last year's event focused on Meta's Ray-Ban Display smart glasses.

Hayden Gillim won his second King of the Baggers Championship after splitting wins with Bradley Smith at Circuit of the Americas. Gillim also won the **** le in 2023 riding for the Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson team, and after the team switched to Indian this season, he became the first rider to win the **** le for two different manufacturers.
Gillim arrived at COTA with a 23-point lead over teammate Troy Herfoss and a 54-point gap over Harley-Davidson x Dynojet rider Smith. Gillim took Race 1 ahead of Smith and teammate Rocco Landers, while Herfoss retired after a crash on his third lap.
That result set up Race 2 on Sunday, where all Gillim needed to do was manage the gap rather than win outright. Gillim passed Herfoss on the opening lap but ceded the lead to Smith on the fourth lap. Smith held on to win by 4.717 seconds while Gillim held off SDI Racing's Tyler O'Hara to finish second. Herfoss finished off the podium in fifth, behind Harley-Davidson's James Rispoli.
With only a maximum of 50 points remaining across the two-race New Jersey finale, Gillim's 54-point cushion over Smith was enough to secure his second King of the Baggers crown.
"We didn't get the bikes until late and got one test in before the season started, and we came out winning," said Gillim, who won 8 of 12 races heading into New Jersey. "To be able to finish it early is pretty special, especially against the guys that we're racing against."

The lightweight showdown between Renato Moicano and Brian Ortega has been scrapped from Saturday's UFC 331 card in Los Angeles.
Ortega suffered an undisclosed injury and as a result, his fight has been cancelled and Moicano is no longer competing on the card. Instead, Moicano now faces riding lightweight contender Tom Nolan in the main event for the upcoming UFC Fight Night card scheduled on Oct. 31 at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas.
UFC officials announced the news on Monday.
With Moicano vs. Ortega no longer happening, UFC 331, the card is down to 12 total fights with the heavyweight matchup between Gable Steveson and Sean Sharaf now opening the main card on Saturday night.

The Oklahoma Sooners dropped to 1-1 in the 2026 season after a 17-10 loss on the road against the Michigan Wolverines. OU failed their first test of the season and played poor, sloppy football in a bad loss.
Expectations were sky-high entering the season, but just two games into Year 5 under head coach Brent Venables, the Sooners saw their season crumble in Ann Arbor. All of the offseason talk and hype that surrounded Oklahoma fell flat in the Big House.
Firstly, though the defense was much better in the second half, the Sooners did not look like a Venables-led defense in the first half. After riding the defense to 10 wins and a spot in the College Football Playoff last season, this year's defense isn't nearly as good, at least not yet. In addition to a loss on their record, the OU defense will also be without their heart and soul for a large chunk of time, as linebacker Kip Lewis was injured in the loss.
Despite only giving up 17 total points, Oklahoma's defense tackled poorly, didn't force any turnovers, and was outflanked often in the first half. The second half was far better on that side of the ball, but the Sooners still lost because of their anemic offense.
All offseason, the Sooners talked about being better at running the ball and more committed to it. That lasted one game, as Oklahoma actually looked worse on offense on Saturday than they did last year. They abandoned the running backs in the running game, and the multiple-look structure-wise largely went out the window.

Saffie Osborne became the first female jockey to win a British Classic horse race while riding Highwayman in the St Leger on Saturday.
Highwayman, trained by Joseph O'Brien, was priced 11-1 and finished ahead of Enceladus and Amelia Earhart.
"I didn't have this on the bingo card for this week," Osborne told ITV Racing. "I didn't have a ride in the race on Monday morning, let alone one with a chance, and I can't thank so many people enough."
The St Leger, in its 250th year, is the world's oldest Classic. Osborne's historic moment follows Rachael Blackmore, who was the first female jockey to win the Grand National in 2021.
Osborne was handed the spare ride on Highwayman as reward for an impressive season. She moved into contention as the runners entered the long Doncaster straight.

Franco Morbidelli will serve a long lap penalty in Sunday's Misano Grand Prix. The FIM MotoGP Stewards judged him guilty of "riding slowly online disturbing another rider," this time impeding Enea Bastianini at Turn 13 during Friday afternoon practice, according to the stewards' penalty notice.
The Stewards classified the incident as MGP-SR3, "Dangerous slow riding during any session," and made clear the punishment reflected a pattern rather than a single lapse. "Taking into account the rider's multiple offences during the season, the appropriate penalty in this case is a Long Lap Penalty," the notice read. Crucially, the sanction applies only to Sunday's Grand Prix and not the Sprint on Saturday. To serve the penalty, Morbidelli will need to ride through a designated path off the racing line, which can typically add 2 to 5 seconds of lap time.
"I know it's a pity and I know a lot of people will hate, but I can **** ure you that my intention is never to be dangerous or to impede," Morbidelli posted on Instagram. "Let's be honest it happens because I'm not clever enough on those slowing down moments."
The penalty puts a damper on what may be Morbidelli's final home Misano weekend in the premier class. Morbidelli is leaving the VR46 team at the end of this season, and is expected to race for Ducati's World Superbike team in 2027. Squandering a Q2 starting berth with a long lap in front of his home crowd is exactly the kind of complication he didn't need on a farewell weekend on the Riviera.

Borussia Dortmund will be without Konstantinos Karetsas for Saturday's Bundesliga home fixture against SC Paderborn as further examinations continue following the 18-year-old's worrying withdrawal from Tuesday's Champions League victory over Villarreal. Karetsas has since been released from hospital after suffering circulatory problems during Dortmund's 3-2 win at the Westfalenstadion.
The Greek international did not participate in team training on Thursday and will not be available for the weekend. Dortmund sporting director Ole Book has now confirmed that initial examinations have yet to establish a specific cause.
"He is doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances," Book told the local Ruhr Nachrichten newspaper. "Further examinations are ongoing. We want to get to the bottom of this properly. The prognosis will then depend on that."

Steven Spielberg may soon say goodbye to his equestrian ranch in Los Angeles.
Closer has learned that the famed Hollywood filmmaker, 79, has listed his seven-bedroom, 11-bathroom property for just under $30 million after purchasing the ranch back in 1999 for $5.35 million.
The 6,219-square-foot property was at the center of controversy shortly after he and wife Kate Capshaw made the purchase because the director wanted to build a five-story horse-riding ring despite pushback from their Brentwood neighbors.
"It's just astounding and obnoxious," land-use attorney John Murdock, who represented several residents at the time, told the ***** ociated Press in 2000. "They're cutting out half the hillside to put in this riding ring … the structure is completely alien to the area."
The riding ring was intended to be a 27,000-square-foot building that would've been about six times the size of a typical home in the area and cost more than $7 million to build, according to the AP.

UFC legend Diego Sanchez has been arrested once again.
Sanchez, 44, was arrested and booked Monday at 5:17 p.m. local time in Socorro, N.M. on two charges: aggravated driving under the influence and probation violation, according to online jail records. Local news outlet KOB4 first reported the news.
No further details about the arrest have become available at this time.
Sanchez was sentenced to five years of supervised probation in March after a July 2025 arrest for shooting a loaded gun out of the window of a car while riding in the passenger seat on the highway. Prosecutors had requested a two-year prison sentence for a fourth-degree felony charge of shooting at or from a motor vehicle. A second charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon was dropped as part of a plea agreement.
Following the judge's decision, Sanchez said he accepted responsibility for the incident and pointed to substance abuse issues and mental health problems, both of which he was seeking help for at the time of the incident, as contributing factors.

Seahawks cornerback Terrion Arnold starts the 2026 season on paid leave, due to eight felony charges arising from an alleged armed robbery and kidnapping. And while he can't practice or play, Arnold is with the team.
"He's in the building and being part of our program and learning the heck out of our defense," coach Mike Macdonald told reporters on Saturday regarding Arnold. "Keep training and stay ready for when there's an opportunity."
It's still unknown when an opportunity will arise. In general, players on the Commissioner Exempt list due to criminal charges remain there until the case is over and discipline, if any, is imposed by the league. But the NFL has deviated from that approach in the past; in 2024, then-Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers spent seven games on paid leave, returning before his case went to trial. (He was acquitted of domestic battery in January 2025.)
Arnold's next court date happens on October 5. A trial hasn't been scheduled. Barring a plea deal, it's unlikely Arnold's case will end before the conclusion of the 2026 season.
The overriding question is whether the league will stick to its general approach that players will remain on paid leave until the case ends, or whether the league will allow Arnold to return at some point later in the season.

Britain's Gemma Stevens won the Burghley Horse Trials for the first time on Sunday, the biggest victory of her career on her 31st attempt at five-star level.
The 41-year-old Olympian, riding Chilli Knight, cemented victory in executing a faultless showjumping round to finish on her dressage score of 29.6 - the only rider in the field to do so.
Compatriot Katie Magee finished second on Treworra, with USA's Caroline Pamukcu and HSH Blake in third.
"It's only taken me 25 years and finally I've managed to win a big B [Burghley or Badminton]. I couldn't be more proud," Stevens said.

This week, she shared it with the world after hitting a big personal milestone.
Ayers posted a vlog across her social media channels documenting her first-ever professional photo shoot, which took place in New York City. The shoot was for Terez, a women's sportswear brand, and Ayers was chosen as the face of the brand's entire New York Giants line. The images are set to drop next week.
"Today was a lifelong dream of mine," Ayers said in a TikTok vlog. "I modeled for the first time in New York City. It was also my very first photo shoot ever, being on set in a studio."
Ayers is a former ring girl and has done brand collaborations as a model before. However, this was her first time modeling for a website, as she clarified in a comment to a fan who ******* umed she was already modeling professionally.

Palantir Technologies' stock jumped approximately 8% on Thursday, recovering from the previous session's nearly 6% decline and trading near $183.
The rebound came even as prominent short-seller Michael Burry, known for his role in "The Big Short," renewed his long-standing bearish critique of the company.
In a detailed post on X early Thursday, Burry reiterated that Palantir is back in the stratosphere and that the facts have not changed. He described the firm as a consultant riding a bubble of AI FOMO demand and warned that its market cap could eventually fall well below $100 billion.
Burry focused on accounts receivable trends, noting that receivables had grown faster than revenue in 9 of the last 12 quarters, with one customer accounting for about 25% of receivables while contributing less than 10% of revenue.
He also highlighted rising days sales outstanding, deferred revenue patterns resembling those of consulting firms like Accenture rather than pure SaaS peers, elevated stock-based compensation, and large net operating losses. Burry disclosed that he remains short the stock and holds put options.

Big Tech is betting trillions of dollars on artificial intelligence, with a lot of that to be spent on building the data centers that would power large language models. Stock markets are reflecting this in Big Tech stocks, but that's not the only industry riding the artificial intelligence wave. Because that wave runs on electricity and the equipment that brings it from generator to consumer.
There have been reports about a chip shortage caused by the AI rush, and higher compute prices overall resulting from AI-related demand growth in electronics. But a more serious shortage is unfolding in power equipment, as the companies pledging hundreds of billions in AI investments want everything ready yesterday if possible. Alas, it is not.
Transformers, a vital component of the grid, have been in increasingly short supply for at least two years. The shortage has been driven by the fast growth in electricity demand, mostly coming from the tech sector, and the inability to respond to that growth with equally fast grid expansion.

Transformers are used to convert the high-voltage electricity that runs from power plants to substations along transmission lines to a lower-voltage electric current that can be used by end consumers, including data centers. According to Wood Mackenzie, the shortfall in transformers this year is 15%. Yet there is also a shortage of substations, highlighting the essential nature of power equipment. Per Wood Mackenzie estimates, the substation deficit is 8%. This situation will be aggravated further by a recent executive order by President Trump that banned imports of bulk power equipment from China.

The crypto market—including Bitcoin and altcoins like XRP, Ethereum, and BNB—is riding a bullish wave of momentum in the U.S. stock market, seemingly triggered by fresh comments from the Federal Reserve, and sending short sellers to goblintown.
Bitcoin punched back above $80,000 on Thursday, trading near $80,270 and up close to 3% over the past 24 hours. Ethereum is closing in on $2,500, up 2.2% today, while XRP is up a whopping 6% in the last 24 hours. The spike has accounted for at least $327 million in liquidated short positions in the last hour alone, and more than $415 million in the past 24 hours.
The catalyst appears to be comments from Fed Governor Christopher Waller, who, in prepared remarks at a Reuters NEXT Newsmaker interview, said he'd be "inclined to support" holding the Fed's benchmark interest rate at its current level if upcoming inflation data keeps improving.
Traders took the hint. The odds of a rate hike at the Fed's September 15-16 meeting fell to 50.4%, down from 63.2% a day earlier, according to the CME FedWatch tool, a market gauge that estimates the odds of Fed moves from futures prices. The 10-year Treasury yield, a benchmark for borrowing costs economy-wide that had touched its highest level since November 2023 a day earlier, dropped to around 4.73%.
It's a sharp reversal from a week ago. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's hawkish Jackson Hole keynote had knocked Bitcoin down to $76,877 and pushed hike odds toward 56%. Thursday's bounce puts Bitcoin back at a level it's tested—and failed to hold—several times this year.

The Cincinnati Bengals could enter New Year's Eve with a lot riding on their final matchup of 2026.
CBS Sports' Bryan DeArdo named Cincinnati's Week 17 home game against the Baltimore Ravens among 10 matchups that could define the upcoming NFL season. The AFC North rivals meet Dec. 31 at 8:15 p.m. ET on Prime Video.
"The league couldn't have picked a better game to show on New Year's Eve," DeArdo wrote. "It's a showdown between division rivals whose games against each other always seem to go down to the wire."
DeArdo pointed to potential playoff ramifications along with the star power of Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry. He also noted the matchup could tilt the scales of an NFL MVP race if Burrow and Jackson are both in contention late in the year.
Slotting between a Week 16 trip to Indianapolis and a Week 18 home finale against Cleveland, it will be Cincinnati's second meeting with Baltimore after the Bengals travel to M&T Bank Stadium in Week 7.
