Once Moniak returns to the active roster—which is expected to happen as early as this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates—the Rockies will have decisions to make when it comes to their outfield.

The switch-hitting Willi Castro is mostly an infielder for the Rockies this year, regularly playing a serviceable second base with a smattering of shortstop. However, he has decent experience playing in the outfield and has made nine appearances with 27 innings in the outfield. Most of his reps have come in left field, though he’s also had time in center. During that time he has five putouts with an **** ist and took part in a double play.
At the plate, Castro has turned into a consistent contributor. As of today he’s hitting .282/.359/.409 with 13 doubles, five home runs, and 32 RBIs, a 24.6% strikeout rate, and a 9.4% walk rate.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a solo homer and Ben Rice launched a three-run shot in the second against Rhett Lowder (3-4) as the Yankees won for the 10th time in 15 games since losing Aaron Judge to a fractured right rib. Anthony Volpe added a late RBI single.
Schlittler (8-3) notched five strikeouts on his four-seam fastball that averaged 97.9 mph. He had four strikeouts apiece on cutters and sinkers.
The right-hander threw first-pitch strikes to 15 of 23 hitters and eclipsed the 12 strikeouts he had over eight innings in the deciding Game 3 of last year's AL Wild Card Series against rival Boston. At 25 years, 134 days, Schlittler became the youngest Yankees pitcher with 13 strikeouts since Al Downing (22 years, 359 days) also fanned 13 against the Chicago White Sox on June 21, 1964.
Schlittler also became the youngest Yankees pitcher to strike out 13 without issuing a walk. He threw 66 of 96 pitches for strikes and got his 10th strikeout when Eugenio Suárez swung at a 99.1 mph sinker to end the fourth.

INDIANAPOLIS – Andrean coach Dave Pishkur has not experienced many days like Friday in his 45-year coaching career.
Pishkur, the coach for all nine of Andrean's record-tying nine state championships, watched his top-ranked team fall in an early hole and never recover in a 9-3 loss to No. 2 Guerin Catholic in the Class 3A state championship on Friday afternoon at Victory Field.
"That's a very good team," Pishkur said of Guerin Catholic. "I'm happy for them that they won their first state championship. I'm happy for our guys that we got here. We just weren't good enough."
It is a rarity that Andrean is not good enough when it arrives at Victory Field. The 59ers have won all nine of their state championships since 2005 – all in Class 3A – with runner-up finishes in 2004 and 2023. The loss in 2004 was a 3-2 nailbiter against New Palestine. The 2023 game was decided by a 4-2 count against Silver Creek.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Kate Douglass broke the world record in the women's 50-meter freestyle at the TYR Pro Swim Series meet Friday night.
Douglass won the final in 23.59 seconds, bettering the mark of 23.61 set by Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden in July 2023. Sjostrom previously owned the seven fastest times in history.
"Wow, that's crazy. I think I'm still in shock," Douglass told NBC Sports in an on-deck interview. "That's a lot faster than I ever thought I would go tonight or ever."

Henry Nicholls made an instant impact on his return to New Zealand colours, stepping in for the retired Kane Williamson and delivering a composed unbeaten century to push his side into a dominant position against England on day three of the Test at The Oval.

By stumps on Friday, New Zealand had reached 252 for 3 in their second innings, effectively stretching their overall lead to 352 after bowling England out for 291 just before lunch. Nicholls remained unbeaten on 119, anchoring the innings alongside Rachin Ravindra, who made a fluent 76 before his dismissal after tea.

The pair added 161 runs from 201 ******* , setting a new record for New Zealand's highest partnership at The Oval. Their stand first stabilised the innings, then steadily built control before shifting gears after tea, when they began scoring at nearly six an over with crisp timing and clean strokeplay.

New Zealand's position puts them firmly in charge of the match, with seven wickets still in hand and the opportunity to push towards a 500-run lead. That would leave England facing a steep fourth-innings challenge, especially given their history at the venue. Messick, 25, was a second-round pick in 2022 out of Florida State. He debuted last August but held rookie status through this season. His stats in 2025 and 2026 are nearly identical, so I’ll summarize them as a whole: over 21 career starts, he has a 2.69 ERA, 3.21 FIP, and 120 strikeouts across 120 1/3 innings, totaling 3.7 bWAR. He’s coming off a pair of losses, though, as he allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and four walks over 11 1/3 innings in losses to the Rangers and Yankees. He struck out four batters in both of those outings.
In some negative injury news, we’ve learned that Quinn Priester, who has missed the entire season while dealing with thoracic outlet syndrome, has opted for “season-ending first rib removal surgery,” that will keep him out eight to 10 months until he’s fully healthy. Priester has had multiple rehab stints in the last two months, but he’s struggled with command, with a 15.75 ERA on 24 walks and 22 hits over just 16 innings over eight appearances. The men’s and women’s swim teams from Southwestern Oregon Community College each placed second in the NJCAA championships earlier this year and the Lakers had one national champion.
Host Indian River State of Florida dominated the meet, just as the school has for several decades.
In the men’s team race, Indian River State had 1,255 points and SWOCC had 802. Iowa Western Community College, which was third, had 593. In all, 11 teams competed in the event.

According to Panthers On Tap, a Panthers podcast, the team has kept in touch with free-agent offensive lineman Brady Christensen. Beat reporter Sheena Quick backed the report, via a league source.
Christensen was selected by Carolina in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He's gone on to play all five of his pro campaigns with the Panthers, having made 34 starts over 59 games.
The 29-year-old has also played at all five positions along the offensive line, with his most recent work coming at right guard.
His 2025 season was cut short due to an Achilles tear he sustained in Carolina's Week 8 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
