The Dallas Cowboys enter their 2026 season opener against the New York Giants banged up in one key spot, but otherwise in solid shape as they prepare for Sunday Night Football at MetLife Stadium. Running back Malik Davis is the only Cowboys player carrying an official game status on the final Week 1 injury report, and he's out with a significant hip injury suffered Friday. Beyond that, head coach Brian Schottenheimer's roster is largely clean heading into the 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff.

The Dallas Cowboys' pass rush just received a significant boost with the signing of former Super Bowl MVP Von Miller. The addition of Miller gives the Cowboys more juice off the edge that offensive coordinators will need to gameplan for. Miller had nine sacks last season with the Washington Commanders, proving he still has something left in the tank for those questioning the move.
But it also sounds like the Cowboys aren't done; rumors of another signing have started, and they revolve around a former Christian Parker cornerback, Adoree Jackson. Jackson worked out in Dallas earlier this offseason but wasn't signed; now the Cowboys have more money to play with after the Quinnen Williams deal, giving them more options and opportunities to improve the roster. It will be interesting to see what Dallas pulls off in the next few days, but signing Miller is a good start.

The Denver Broncos had ample opportunities to bring Von Miller back. They now risk facing off against him this coming season.
Miller was the No. 2 overall pick of the 2011 draft. He began his career with the Broncos and helped them win a Super Bowl. He has had a few other stops since the Broncos traded him to the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, but Miller has wanted to return to Denver for years.
With that apparently not in play, Miller is sticking in the NFC.
Miller gave the first indication of his next move, with the former Broncos pass rusher taking to social media. Miller is signing with the Dallas Cowboys in free agency.
"'Hereee Weee Gooo'" [face wearing a cowboy hat emoji] dallascowboys LFG [crazy eyes, smirking demon, and trophy emojis]," Miller captioned an edited image of himself in a Cowboys uniform on August 16, drawing attention from DNVR's Zac Stevens.

The Dallas Cowboys aren't nearly a finished product. There's still one more week left to go in the Oxnard portion of training camp and that includes a joint practice against the New Orleans Saints and another road trip, this one to face the Arizona Cardinals.
But Saturday was the first preseason game, and though most starters remained camped out on the sideline, key backups who could be called upon during the season got a lot of run. One key area that seems to be a bit deficient of talent is the backup offensive line, who failed to open up running lanes for backs Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer discussed the issues they had against the strong Seattle Seahawks' front on Saturday night, highlighting the team's inability to create rushing lanes.
A lot of moving parts, like I said, they threw a lot of things at us," Schottenheimer said via DallasCowboys.com. "I want to look at the film. Definitely some leaky moments, but early on especially, we struggled to move their guys up front. I think you'll see that. That's why the run numbers in the first half weren't very good."
Dallas started with an offensive line of, from left to right, Nate Thomas, Trevor Keegan, TJ Bass, Ajani Cornelius and fourth-round rookie Drew Shelton. Each had some solid snaps, but as a group they struggled mightily. Blue and Mafah combined for just 28 yards on 12 carries.

The Dallas Cowboys didn't have practice on Friday, but that didn't stop COO Stephen Jones from making more news. During his interview on 105.3 The Fan, Jones kept recent trade rumors alive, but it's what he said after the interview that's caused a stir. According to reports, Jones hinted at bringing in a big-time player, a player local to Texas. Immediately reigniting the trade rumors around Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks. Only time will tell if a Brooks or Maxx Crosby trade happens, but now fans can truly say "like father, like son" after Stephen Jones added to the trade fever in Dallas.
But that wasn't the only Cowboys-related news: former quarterback-turned-CBS broadcaster Tony Romo was sidelined by CBS after his July arrest. The Dallas Cowboys' defense still has plenty of questions to answer, and defensive coordinator Christian Parker is hoping training camp will help provide them.
Two areas Parker needs to address quickly are the same ones that plagued the Cowboys last season: a lack of turnovers and sacks. If this defense wants to change its outlook, Parker must find ways to put his players in position to make plays on the ball while also generating more pressure up front. The two issues go hand in hand and could be Parker's biggest challenge when camp opens.
Fortunately, Parker has plenty of young talent on defense to work with. The same can't be said for the Cowboys' roster as a whole after a look at ESPN's under-25 talent rankings. Dallas ranked 17th a year ago but has fallen to 24th entering the 2026 season. Hopefully, the team's blend of youth and veteran talent is enough to compete this year, while the front office continues to add young pieces through roster cutdowns and future drafts.

The Dallas Cowboys are banking on Christian Parker to lead their defensive resurgence, but he can also be an ******* et for Dak Prescott as well. Parker's experience in defenses that have been a thorn in Prescott's career allows him to show Prescott insight on how to beat them. If Prescott can learn how to beat Parker's defense, it increases the odds of him beating heavily disguised defenses like the Eagles, Vic Fangio, and the Broncos Vance Joseph.
